The first time I played the game I automatically thought that Lyn x Rath makes sense... It makes sense on a literary stand point. Everytime Rath dies Lyn calls for him. I played Binding Blade as well... And Sue is just Rath and Lyn combined
My reactions when getting each support level: C-Support: Alright, fine start. I look forward to seeing more of it. B-Support: Aw, Lyn just shared a personal thought with Rath. I like where this is going. A-Support: CALL ME FEDEX BECAUSE I'VE GOT SOMETHING TO SHIP!
Terry Syvertson I agree and disagree at the same time. on the one hand it's my favorite pairing for both of them. and on the other I'm a big advocate of "no pairing is canon"
+Golden Jolt: Means nothing in comparison to practically a whole game's worth of non-support interactions, special conversations, and dedicated songs in the sound room.
I'm sure when you get down to it, it's just a joke among FE fans, but I don't see too many people appreciating Serra for the insecure, frail, and compassionate character she really is.
If you look at the support mechanics in the game this pairing is more supported than Lyn x Hector. Lyn x Hector gain 3 support points each turn but Lyn x Rath gain 4+ points per turn. The only 5+ points in the game are with Eliwoodx Ninian. The ultimate proof.
I would like to argue that that is only because it is much more difficult to have Lyn and Rath together in the same area of the map to begin with. Rath's best utility is not really his bow. Rather, it's his rescue utility and his high movement. Lyn is a 5 movement unit and Rath is a 7 movement unit. This makes it far more difficult to have them interact with each other.
They did something similar in awakening, where certain pairings get faster supports, namely: Chrom and sumia (let's be real, everything points towards them) Lissa and vaike (considering how owain turned out, i have no problem believing he was raised by vaike) Sully and kellam (kjelle is basically kellam 2.0) Miriel and stahl (meh) Maribelle and frederick (brady adopts his speech pattern to rebel against the refined way of his parents, see his future past convo with frederick) Panne and ricken (meh) Cordelia and libra (both the last survivors of their respective groups) Tharja and gaius (both former plegian soldiers, both refused to kill emmeryn) Nowi and gregor (both the oldest in the army, gregor saved nowi from enslavement) Cherche and virion (they have known each other for a long time and trust each other like no one else) Olivia and henry (inigo smiles constantly, henry does too, henrys supports with olivia are just adorable) Same for the kids too. Lucina and laurent (both the oldest, both the hardest workers) Cynthia and inigo (best friends since childhood) Owain and kjelle (both take armor/weapons seriously) Brady and severa (the sarcastic members of the army) Nah and gerome (the dragon and the dragon rider) Yarne and noire (both easily scared)

You also need to realize our playstyles could be very different, someone like you who goes in guns blazing, looking for the most enemy phase kills/round may rely much more on numbers and efficiency, whereas me, a person who plays using calculated positioning and canto abuse, may find Lyn's versitility a bigger asset. Personal experience means NOTHING, UNLESS YOU GET CONSISTENT RESULTS. so if you bench Lyn every time, how do you know she's frail AF when you might have just gotten bad luck? Watch my FE7 Lyn's mode run and tell me how bad my Sain is.
yep, renault is defined by his supports. without them, he is a rather bland character who is not going to contribute much, but if you read into his supports (especially with lucius), he gets surprisingly deep
I'm for Lyn x Tactician. They head off to another continent with plans to return to Elibe one day. Side note : A remake of FE6 should be a remake of FE7&6 with the scope gradually widening or the course of 3 campaigns: Lyn's inheritance dispute, the fight to stop Nergal's scheme, finishing with the Great War of Elibe with elements woven in between all parts. And the should definitely be a new chapter where Lyn takes out the Taliver bandits.
Ah, that would explain why there is no side mission when traveling into & out of Bern in Eliwood & Hector's modes, addressing that. I haven't unlocked all supports yet.
I never knew that people thought this wasn't canon. I mean ... - He's introduced in a cutscene where he saves Lyn - Rath's only ending besides his single one is the one with Lyn - Lyn's child is nowhere to be seen in Binding Blade, but Rath's child is (I doubt that he just had a child with an unnamed woman if it also could have been Lyn) - It makes sense story and character wise (they made Blazing Sword after Binding Blade, so it wouldn't make sense that they created Lyn if she has no relevance in Binding Blade ... yay, Sue ... and then you already explained that her endings with Eliwood and Hector make no sense) - My fanfictions demand it What more proof do you need???
You could argue that Lyn and Rath don't have great out-of-support romantic interactions either. Rath saves Lyn in Araphen because she is Sacaean. Rath leaves the Marquess of Araphen because he disparages Sacae. Also, Hector and Lyn have very few "antagonistic" moments, their story interaction when they first meet just highlights how little he pays attention to other things in battle, which is just part of who Hector is. Lyn begins to see Hector as a hurdle to overcome as he defeats her easily and she has to learn entirely new techniques to defeat him. She wants to be powerful enough to defend herself. In the end, outside of their supports, Rath's motivation for being around Lyn is because she's Sacaean, and considering that "romantic" is just a bit of a stretch. They connect on their country- in Hector's story, the two connect on something much more personal, the death of Lyn's parents. In Four Fanged Offense, Lyn pulls Hector away from Eliwood and Ninian to give the two a chance to be alone, which leads to a cute moment between Ninian and Eliwood and also one between Hector and Lyn. In any event, at least their supports are better than Sain's with Serra. The A support was so disappointing between them, strange considering he's one of the few characters who doesn't see Serra as an annoyance but considers her beautiful.
It still makes no sense for why Lyn would end up with Hector, and also I neglected to mention it in the video, but I believe Lyn sees her father in Rath, and honestly I think that's waaaaaay more powerful than any comfort Hector gives.
I can understand that Lyn living in a castle doesn't make much sense for Lyn, but that doesn't outright mean that she'd go with the Sacaean man. Also the "seeing her father in Rath" uhhh... I have never seen any support behind that in their interactions. Seems a little like a fanfic, a decent one but still a fanfic. Besides, the only real option for Lyn is Florina-
My opinions on Lyn x Florina... No, Florina, I will concede, MAY be bisexual, BUT, Lyn certainly is NOT, she takes more of a sisterly role towards Florina, in other words, Florina could POSSIBLY like Lyn romantically, but Lyn doesn't. Still, I just don't see the appeal in Lyn x Hector. And honestly the duality between Madelyn and Lyn gets much stronger if she marries Rath, (as Lyn's mother Also married a sacaean) and Lyn and Rath use the same weapons when they promote, implying the taught eachother (even though nomadic troopers got swords in FE6) Hector just, see the video for my feelings, also I think it kinda makes Eliwood the third wheel if Lyn and Hector hook up, again, parallel to the poor choice that was Ron and Hermione.
It actually would've been nice if, if FE7 had those little side-chat things like in Awakening+ but sorta different, she told him that she thought her father would've approved of him/gotten along well with him or something. -Which also ties in with a slight headcanon of mine, considering they're both kids of chiefs, but it's purely a headcanon, borderline farfetched theory.-
Amazing video. I just have one complain: When you read the supports, because you're trying to sync your voice with the text, you read very slowly and unnaturally. I recommend you speed up the support footage so that the text appears at a normal pace. Also, I do agree with you opinion on Lyn x Hector. Hector x Florina for life!
I think a non paired ending suits lyn the best....her free going sacae plain loving spirit...she couldnt be bounded by marriage or romance in anyways....just how i feel folks
truth be told....after looking at her whole character arc....she doesn't seem like a princess or a noble and her leaving caelin in the care of ostia would suit her the best(remember at the end of lyn mode...yes i play that a lot...she looks longingly towards the sacean plains)....she might have stayed till her grandfather passed away probably...
+bellesme blossom: So? Hector doesn't seem like a noble himself. And I'm pretty sure that Ostia is known for its lack of adherence to traditional convention. Plus, there's the fact that Lyn only mentions wanting to return to Sacae IF she's not paired with Eliwood or Hector, and the matter of that it's always Ostia that gains jurisdiction over Caelin regardless of what happens with her.
LittleAl016 it's because Lyn hates nobility, she dislikes the lifestyle. she leaves Caelin to Ostia because she doesn't want to rule Caelin herself, she can't bear the responsibility. again, I wonder if you even watched the video.
I'm more of a Lyn x Eliwood man myself but I do have respect for Lyn x Rath. My only issue is that Rath is such a poor communicator but I take it that he is just having trouble finding his words when Lyn gets more personal. I get it. It's still better than Lyn x Hector imo.
Splatoo Blemier it makes sense as the only time lyn references someone in heroes is brave heroes lyn references mark, you only see this from characters who are close to each other, like Erika references ephraim, lucina references chrome all the time and Abel references est etc.
Bridal Lyn also mentions Mark, in her 5* Level 40 dialogue. "Oh, sorry. I was staring at you. You just remind me of someone I know, [Summoner]. My husband? You're kidding, right? No, another tactician. We helped each other out, and we traveled a long way together... That friendship means a lot to me." There is also the Brave Lyn reference: "You REALLY remind me of another tactician I know." But let's look beyond just Heroes. In Fire Emblem Warriors, Lyn's Support conversation with Robin basically centered around Mark. And she also mentions Mark, Sain, Kent, and Florina when speaking to Lianna. Finally, in her appearance in Fire Emblem Awakening as an Einherjar, Lyn again brings up Mark, even mistaking Robin for Mark. Every time Lyn has had dialogue in a video game, she has referenced Mark. He is easily one of the most important parts of her personal story, and the character with whom she has the greatest connection.
What makes me like a support more is when we get to see backstory between the two characters in their conversation and development between the two outside of their conversation. It's why my favorite support pairing in Blazing Sword is Nino and Jaffar. With Lyn and Rath, it's more on par friendship wise like with Lyn and Florina. I feel the pairing was simply to allow Rath to end up with someone since he's supposed to have a daughter. Rath doesn't have that big of an impact on the story besides saving Lyndis, even less, the characters. If Lyn wasn't from Sacae I doubt there would be any reason for them to communicate at all.
Calls Lyn a thigh goddess. I like where you're going with this already. Lyn's always been my favorite female Fire Emblem character, and I liked this. Good job. I never did the Rath support with Lyn so I found this quite interesting.
The video is good. My main problem with this video was that when you read out loud the support between Rath and Lyn, you kept on pausing and waited for the next word to come up. My suggestion is to speed up the text either by editing or through the game. If a literature class in college taught me anything is that sounding choppy is unappealing to listen to. Other than that, it was a fine video.
I agree completely. I've always paired Lyn with either Rath or Kent since it fits Lyn's desired life better. It's not that I really dislike her pairings with Eliwood and Hector, but I feel Kent and Lyn or Rath and Lyn just make much more sense as a couple.
actually i have no idea why that rath one was so blurry, it was fine in my viewer, and i didn't scale it up or anything. and I DMed ghast to ask if i could do this, he's at least aware of this video's existence.
Some other things about these two's supports that I picked up on and found interesting... Note, I haven't read ALL of Lyn's supports, but I've noticed that in most of her supports, she's outgoing, confident, and usually says what she has to say without hesitation, even if it sounds either embarrassing or even insulting. In her supports with Rath, she's shown to be more meek, more worried she might say the wrong thing, and for someone who usually doesn't let others' opinions of her concern her too much (only when it's the general opinion as a whole, leading to that infamous "HOW DO I ETIQUETTE, ELIWOOD?!" thing), she seems awful concerned with how this one guy in particular thinks of her...and on top of that, she seems more eager to listen to what he has to say and learn more about him than just go back and forth, and considering Lyn's not the quiet type, it's a bit odd that, all of the sudden, she's suddenly acting so mild in spite of her usual vivacious behavior. Then on the other hand with Rath, in his supports with Guy, it starts off with the former being pretty nice to the other, even leading the latter who got lost back to the main crowd, then Guy accidentally hits the nail on the head with Rath's backstory, and then he tries to avoid Guy all of the sudden for the rest of the supports. With this in mind, Rath doesn't seem like he's very comfortable with people knowing about his childhood at all, at least, enough so that he suddenly goes from trying to lend someone a hand to being all "NOPE" whenever Guy shows up. So...dang...he must really trust Lyn a lot if he's going to tell her about something that makes him so uncomfortable. -Also, might be reading too much into things, and maybe my shipping goggles are on too tight, but honest to goodness, when having Lyn talk to Rath in the main story to recruit him, the dialogue between them is so borderline flirtatious, IMO, it's adorable knowing they can hook up. And apparently, in some versions of the game (at least the German version (it was one of those days where I got bored and then watched LPs in languages I don't understand)), she even says his name after he goes off-screen... Dang -*-*shipping intensifies*-*
I found out that Lyndis and Rath are the 2nd fastest couple that can get an A support. The only other person Lyndis has a faster support growth with is Florina.

Sorry but nothing beats Fire Emblem 4's support and relationships imo. Maybe it was a bit harder at times and could use streamlining into a similar Awakening but the children thing is just so sick
I think Tear Ring Saga is the champion of fleshing out it's characters. Every character gets backstory that ends up being related somewhere in the story, or especially in the ending, which is I also think is the most emotional in the series.

I'm not sure if this is the best pairing in the WHOLE series, but I do agree it works quite well.
This was a great video. I liked the arguments you brought here and made them understandable. The problem i had was the section explaining HectorxLyn and why that was ok . It felt really drawn out and unnessary . The rest of the was top notch except of the low res pics here and there. Love you vids man keep it up!

LynXHector is off character for her because she never wanted to be a noble and with Hector she is going to be a Queen which is something she didn’t want to be, they have chemistry and all but it’s more like two best friends arguing with each other, also Lyn dies in this pairing because Lillina mother is dead in binding blade. LynXRath makes more sense than HectorXLyn first because he is from the plains just like her and in their ending they return to the plains together which is what she wanted since the start of the game.They also have chemistry and her support with Rath goes faster with him than with Hector. Her fate in binding blade is ambiguous so she could have lived and is not killed like in HectorXLyn.
+Stalker: Actually, that doesn't "canonize" Lyn/Rath at all. In fact, Rath is only listed as a possibility, and nothing more. Despite that possibility listing, that art book you mention brings a lot more attention to Hector/Lyn.
I always thought that Lyn and Rath were straight up canon because of Sue and Shin, and Hector and Farina I also assumed were kinda Canon cuz she only appears in Hector mode and she ALSO has blue hair... buuuuuuut in the games I'd always pair Hector and Lyn instead of Lyn and Rath because the support bonus is just SO much better, because Lyn will never make use of that Hit bonus because her skill is already through the roof, and Lyn could always use more avoid and defense, so it just makes perfect sense, and the wind affinity for Hector works out perfectly as well (even though he can also get a Wind from Matthew, Lyn's the only romantic support that gives him wind)

I agree 100%! Their pairing makes much more sense than any other lyn pairings. It would break her character if she was ever announced canon with Hector or Eliwood! Besides, Lyn and Rath have such in common. With the both of them not being introduced in FE Binding blade, the story of them and Sue makes great sense. Their pairing is more than just dramatic, it is true romance.
I agree with how well and effective the support works is it romance. However, Lyn has shown that she prioritizes her relationships with those she loves over her lifestyle. Just because she wouldn't be happyin ostia doesn't mean she wouldn't of made that choice if she truly loved Hector…
I don't think it's the best in the series (heck, it's not even my favorite from FE7) but I really do like this pair and it's certainly my favorite for Lyn.

I didn't really know Rath's past until this video, and you know, you make a really good argument. This is a good ship, and I get the problem with Lyn and Hector as well. I really really want to see them remake FE6 and just explain Lyn already. I really can't stand the idea of her being dead off-screen in that game. I honestly would love it if towards the end of the game she joins the party during either the Sacae or Ilia route, maybe with older Rath or older Florina depending on the path. Just as a late-game swordmaster with custom animations. I'd love that. Granted, there's the matter of her being maybe Lilina's mother, but that could be an interesting plot element for Lilina, Sue, and Lyn if they were half-siblings or something, and could help add character to them. Tbh I'd see the divorce as more a cause Lyn's disdain for the royal life and the eyes of Ostia than an issue with Hector himself. Sure it wouldn't be 100% happy, but could be an interesting alternate outcome if, say, they remade FE7 and 6 together and had a parent system. Good video dude :)
like my main hope if FE7 ever gets remade is if In Lyn and Hectors ending they do imply a divorce happened sometime after Lillina's birth. either that or just rewrite the support so it fits better with Lyn as a character.
Yeah, they definitely have some hurdles to deal with if they ever remake FE6. I above everything else want them to turn into an FE7 sequel of sorts, but with the focus still on Roy. Just to fix some of the plot-holes all over that 20 year gap.

bit of a tangent topic but speaking of Fire emblem 7 pairing was i the only one who though initially that florina could pair with will. they both are introduced around the same time chapters apart, they are close to the group and to their leader lyn, and i always thought that through time and possibly support conversations that will could help florina out with her insecurities towards both men and archers and through that a romance could have been forged.
and imagine (if their combined weight could allow it) will and florina flying together on her pegasus (whose name i cannot remember) and have will rain arrows from above if they would grow a deep enough bond to have florina's pegasus allow this (maybe when florina is a falconknight or whatever it is called).
All of the parings in that FE was good imo. *Spoiler warning?* Klein and Clarine's Parents (So perfect)... Lyn and Rath (so bad assed)... Hec and Lil (He caught her freaking HORSE out of the sky!!!)... Roy's parents (because I like Roy a LOT MORE knowing that he's 1/2 Dragon!!)... Jaffy and Nino (OTP)... Sometimes, I would forget how freaking hard that game was because I was so busy hooking people up!!!
L9999 My Fir died in the arena against a mercenary. I must have had really bad rng at that moment. And plus her strength sucked so she could dish out any real damage.
Now, I've never played this game but and I'm sure I'm right on this, but I feel it's all mostly all just opinionated between the way it affects the story with best stat child with a specific character you like being with another character just because that's how you feel depending on which FE game you play. For example, I'll use Fates as the example because it's a more modern FE game that covers a big portion of it from friends-marrying, take Takumi and Oboro, whichever side you pick at one point you hear Oboro talk about how she likes/has feelings for Takumi, but you don't have to pair them up together, you could say pair Oboro up with Subaki to make a pretty good Caeldori and Takumi with Azura because I like their support together. I'm sure some supports make more sense than others like Sumia and Chrom compared to Xander and Azura, there's no exact reason why Azura and Xander should marry but it's possible...
that's the thing, you don't quite get how story pairings work until you play FE7, not saying you're wrong (you're correct in regards to fates) FE7 and sacred stones are a different beast in regards to supports.
ZerkMonsterHunter 4 Yeah, that's why I used Fates as my example because it's slightly different from games like this one, plus I know more about Fates than I do any other FE game since that game seemed to really interest me back when it first came out, still kind of does today as I think I've said multiple times in the comments section of your videos...
Best pairing is Tiltyu/Levin because Forseti on the first chapter of part 2 weilded by a mounted unit (after promotion) is the most OP thing ever. I lost track of localized names so the names might be off.
It was a kind of a joke. I knew where the video was going, but I wanted to throw my opinion on pairings in there (looking at it from a gameplay standpoint).
Yeah Joshua did it to explore the world outside of his castle while Lyndis wanted to back to the life she knew and loved.. man i wish some of these swordsmen in the fire emblem series got a bit more of screen time. Joshua, Lyn, Ike and Say'ri are all badass as hell not to mention some of the myrmidons and swordmasters in the series that offer you the flexibility to imagine what went through their lives like the solitary blade Lon'qu and the sword demon Karel(probably my favorite out of all characters i mentioned before him).
Just found this video and I agree, although I wouldn't call it the best support ever. This is the best support for Lyn and she deserves to be with Rath. He is a BEAST and one of the most consistently good characters in Fe 7.
Pretty interesting video. While your points do have solid base behind it, I would make the argument that Lyn x Tactician is also very likely. It's already fishy enough for her to have her existence not even be acknowledged in FE 6 as it is, but also it would appear that the tactician is the one who she has in her heart the most. Especially from her later appearances in Awakening where she ends up getting emotional and crying when she realizes that she's finally reunited with you. Same for Heroes where the conversations you have with her involve reminiscing about the tactician. It would make sense from a narrative perspective too, as despite him not serving any form of role or contribution to the main story, he is still responsible for literally changing her life, from one that'd live alone in the plains, to someone who'd get reunited with her only family member left, all the while making numerous friends and even saving the world. In theory, I suspect there's no acknowledgement of her in 6 because she probably chose to leave in search of the tactician who also disappeared after the events of 7 after choosing to head back to the plains alone. Whether she found him or not is obviously something nobody can answer. And of course, the argument can be made that the tactician doesn't have a set gender, but let's be real. Whilst people may view Corrin in canon terms as a woman, courtesy of Warriors, Robin's more or less seen from a mainstream audience as a man. As Chrom's best friend. I would argue the same for the tactician and whilst there are no plot points to back it up, the fact that his overworld sprite stays the same as a man, regardless of what you choose, gives me the belief that he was always intended to be viewed as that by the general audience. So yeah. That's my reason of why I view her and the tactician as the most probable pairing. Because in terms of narrative and what came after, it to me makes the most sense. God I hope the remake fixes all these plotholes. Extra points for the tactician having an actual role and personality this time around other than someone who introduces Dora the Explorer like moments 😂 Anyways, good video friend! This may be a bad place to ask, but I'm playing fe7 for the first time and I have no idea how to unlock supports. Can you unlock them in Lyn`s campaign? I'm already chapter 12 and no supports have happened or appeared so I feel like I need to go back. or maybe I shouldn't worry cause the game introduces it to me? (oh yeah it's also my first GBA fe too so I wouldn't know if its similar to other GBA games)
Ivy Gu supports Don't get built up in Lyn's mode, you don't unlock them until Eliwood's mode. they work the same as Awakening's in terms of building them up, but there's no visual cue. additionally, they're done on the battlefield by use of the "talk" command.
Well, me not shipping either way, Hector's would appear canonical due to the fact that Lyndis has a special conversation with him in the final chapter if they get an A support, but eh.

They have been together all this time after Lyn's story and I found it cute that in their A support, Kent states that even if he wasn't a knight, or her not being from noble birth, he would still be there by her side. Plus in their ending, she lives her life in the plains with Kent, which i I find adorable. To be honest, in my first playthrough, I forgot Rath even existed when he rejoined since I didn't use him in Lyn's story due to his base level. I can see your points and respect your opinion. It's just not my personal favorite.
meh, no problem, i dropped Rath on my first FE7 run too, completely regret that in hindsight, my perception of Kent x Lyn is similar to hector x Lyn, but i can forgive Kent x Lyn because it makes logically WAY more sense.
While I think Awakening has the "wittier" writing and Paths may have some of the selectively strongest supports in the series, I personally think FE7 had the best/ my favorite supports in the series. Almost everyone is connected to someone else or even groups of people in meaningful ways, and using the supports to peel back layers of depth to the characters and their relationships was a huge factor in my replaying the game multiple times. While I can't say that every character was as "unique" as the later games (lots of straight-laced knights and villagers fighting for a cause here), I felt like most of the characters' normalcy made them more believable, grounded, and real. Everyone had reasons to fight, goals they wanted to achieve, and histories that carried into their actual personas and interactions.

I know I said I'd be quiet, but Zerk, I think you'd appreciate this. Recently, I got my friend into FE7, and she really likes it. This said friend is quite intelligent and also a fine connoisseur of writing, always seeing the logic behind the plot and couples in stories. If it don't make sense, she won't like it, and she thrives on interesting stories of many kinds. We ended up discussing ships and ship arguments and if they were valid, and on the subject of HectorXLyn, she said as such: "I honestly can't find any valid reason why the two would have a romantic relationship, and honestly if it wasn't for the fact that they have the possible support to acquire, I don't think the fans would have come up with it themselves." My smart, literary expert friend said this about your NOTP. Just thought you'd like that. :)
AsterOrca that's awesome to hear. I'm glad she's enjoying the game. and I'm certainly inclined to agree with her as an aspiring writer myself. I don't know if you keep up with my Twitter, but recently I posted some hot takes on Hector x Lyn. because I think if they tweaked the supports and ending, and drew attention to the fact that their relationship would be dysfunctional and unsteady. (perhaps even implying a divorce) it could work. especially in fire emblem where Disney style "happily ever after" is the norm. that being said, Lyn and Rath is still objectively better.
Well, this one seemed almost canon so it's rather normal that it is more developed thanks to Story Interaction that gives an additional layer to the pairing. This is what Awakening and Fates tried to avoid to let players be free to put any character with any other one. Don't know if it's a good thing though. Maybe doing some kind of balance between certain characters that could have balanced pairings and others that don't might be a solution for IS. Well, with SoV we won't have the choice though ^^; Nice analysis! Keep up the good work!
Go play FE6. Lyn x Mark is cannon. Lyn got a daughter in FE6 who looks like her and fights like her. Sue is Rath's daughter but not Lyn's. Lyn's daughter is the swordswoman. My main gripe with this video was the pacing and timing of the support dialogue when read aloud. It follows the text too closely and causes uniterest in the viewer. If you were to do a dialogue reading again, pull up the scripts on Fire Emblem wiki or even write them down so you don't have to follow the text exactly and the reading with flow much more fluidly. Other than that, great vid. Lyn X Rath is best pairing
yeah i certainly messed up in that regard. I do want to redo this video at some point in the future as a result of those mistakes but nonetheless I'm glad you enjoyed the actually good parts.

No problem. Lyn shines in her supports, but she is a little bland in the story, and her supports with Hector, funnily enough. She's very much a fates Character before fates was a thing, bland/underutilized in the story, but has amazing Supports.
I really connected with this video & this topic in every way. I will post here what I posted over at "Mangs"... Fire Emblem could be the perfect Novel. Better than Game Of Thrones or on par. I've always wanted to write something (not a FanFic). Something that would really open Fire Emblem's World & it's beautiful written character to the non-gaming audience. I'm sure when you get down to it, it's just a joke among FE fans, but I don't see too many people appreciating Serra for the insecure, frail, and compassionate character she really is.

If you look at the support mechanics in the game this pairing is more supported than Lyn x Hector. Lyn x Hector gain 3 support points each turn but Lyn x Rath gain 4+ points per turn. The only 5+ points in the game are with Eliwoodx Ninian. The ultimate proof.
I guess you could make that conclusion.
I would like to argue that that is only because it is much more difficult to have Lyn and Rath together in the same area of the map to begin with. Rath's best utility is not really his bow. Rather, it's his rescue utility and his high movement. Lyn is a 5 movement unit and Rath is a 7 movement unit. This makes it far more difficult to have them interact with each other.
They did something similar in awakening, where certain pairings get faster supports, namely:
Chrom and sumia (let's be real, everything points towards them)
Lissa and vaike (considering how owain turned out, i have no problem believing he was raised by vaike)
Sully and kellam (kjelle is basically kellam 2.0)
Miriel and stahl (meh)
Maribelle and frederick (brady adopts his speech pattern to rebel against the refined way of his parents, see his future past convo with frederick)
Panne and ricken (meh)
Cordelia and libra (both the last survivors of their respective groups)
Tharja and gaius (both former plegian soldiers, both refused to kill emmeryn)
Nowi and gregor (both the oldest in the army, gregor saved nowi from enslavement)
Cherche and virion (they have known each other for a long time and trust each other like no one else)
Olivia and henry (inigo smiles constantly, henry does too, henrys supports with olivia are just adorable)

You also need to realize our playstyles could be very different, someone like you who goes in guns blazing, looking for the most enemy phase kills/round may rely much more on numbers and efficiency, whereas me, a person who plays using calculated positioning and canto abuse, may find Lyn's versitility a bigger asset.
Personal experience means NOTHING, UNLESS YOU GET CONSISTENT RESULTS. so if you bench Lyn every time, how do you know she's frail AF when you might have just gotten bad luck?

You could argue that Lyn and Rath don't have great out-of-support romantic interactions either. Rath saves Lyn in Araphen because she is Sacaean. Rath leaves the Marquess of Araphen because he disparages Sacae. Also, Hector and Lyn have very few "antagonistic" moments, their story interaction when they first meet just highlights how little he pays attention to other things in battle, which is just part of who Hector is. Lyn begins to see Hector as a hurdle to overcome as he defeats her easily and she has to learn entirely new techniques to defeat him. She wants to be powerful enough to defend herself. In the end, outside of their supports, Rath's motivation for being around Lyn is because she's Sacaean, and considering that "romantic" is just a bit of a stretch. They connect on their country- in Hector's story, the two connect on something much more personal, the death of Lyn's parents. In Four Fanged Offense, Lyn pulls Hector away from Eliwood and Ninian to give the two a chance to be alone, which leads to a cute moment between Ninian and Eliwood and also one between Hector and Lyn.
In any event, at least their supports are better than Sain's with Serra. The A support was so disappointing between them, strange considering he's one of the few characters who doesn't see Serra as an annoyance but considers her beautiful.
It still makes no sense for why Lyn would end up with Hector, and also I neglected to mention it in the video, but I believe Lyn sees her father in Rath, and honestly I think that's waaaaaay more powerful than any comfort Hector gives.
I can understand that Lyn living in a castle doesn't make much sense for Lyn, but that doesn't outright mean that she'd go with the Sacaean man. Also the "seeing her father in Rath" uhhh... I have never seen any support behind that in their interactions. Seems a little like a fanfic, a decent one but still a fanfic.
Besides, the only real option for Lyn is Florina-
My opinions on Lyn x Florina... No, Florina, I will concede, MAY be bisexual, BUT, Lyn certainly is NOT, she takes more of a sisterly role towards Florina, in other words, Florina could POSSIBLY like Lyn romantically, but Lyn doesn't.
Still, I just don't see the appeal in Lyn x Hector. And honestly the duality between Madelyn and Lyn gets much stronger if she marries Rath, (as Lyn's mother Also married a sacaean) and Lyn and Rath use the same weapons when they promote, implying the taught eachother (even though nomadic troopers got swords in FE6) Hector just, see the video for my feelings, also I think it kinda makes Eliwood the third wheel if Lyn and Hector hook up, again, parallel to the poor choice that was Ron and Hermione.
It actually would've been nice if, if FE7 had those little side-chat things like in Awakening+ but sorta different, she told him that she thought her father would've approved of him/gotten along well with him or something.

I'm more of a Lyn x Eliwood man myself but I do have respect for Lyn x Rath. My only issue is that Rath is such a poor communicator but I take it that he is just having trouble finding his words when Lyn gets more personal. I get it. It's still better than Lyn x Hector imo.

But let's look beyond just Heroes.
In Fire Emblem Warriors, Lyn's Support conversation with Robin basically centered around Mark. And she also mentions Mark, Sain, Kent, and Florina when speaking to Lianna.
Finally, in her appearance in Fire Emblem Awakening as an Einherjar, Lyn again brings up Mark, even mistaking Robin for Mark.
Every time Lyn has had dialogue in a video game, she has referenced Mark. He is easily one of the most important parts of her personal story, and the character with whom she has the greatest connection.
What makes me like a support more is when we get to see backstory between the two characters in their conversation and development between the two outside of their conversation. It's why my favorite support pairing in Blazing Sword is Nino and Jaffar. With Lyn and Rath, it's more on par friendship wise like with Lyn and Florina. I feel the pairing was simply to allow Rath to end up with someone since he's supposed to have a daughter. Rath doesn't have that big of an impact on the story besides saving Lyndis, even less, the characters. If Lyn wasn't from Sacae I doubt there would be any reason for them to communicate at all.

The video is good. My main problem with this video was that when you read out loud the support between Rath and Lyn, you kept on pausing and waited for the next word to come up. My suggestion is to speed up the text either by editing or through the game. If a literature class in college taught me anything is that sounding choppy is unappealing to listen to. Other than that, it was a fine video.

I agree completely. I've always paired Lyn with either Rath or Kent since it fits Lyn's desired life better. It's not that I really dislike her pairings with Eliwood and Hector, but I feel Kent and Lyn or Rath and Lyn just make much more sense as a couple.

Some other things about these two's supports that I picked up on and found interesting...
Note, I haven't read ALL of Lyn's supports, but I've noticed that in most of her supports, she's outgoing, confident, and usually says what she has to say without hesitation, even if it sounds either embarrassing or even insulting. In her supports with Rath, she's shown to be more meek, more worried she might say the wrong thing, and for someone who usually doesn't let others' opinions of her concern her too much (only when it's the general opinion as a whole, leading to that infamous "HOW DO I ETIQUETTE, ELIWOOD?!" thing), she seems awful concerned with how this one guy in particular thinks of her...and on top of that, she seems more eager to listen to what he has to say and learn more about him than just go back and forth, and considering Lyn's not the quiet type, it's a bit odd that, all of the sudden, she's suddenly acting so mild in spite of her usual vivacious behavior. Then on the other hand with Rath, in his supports with Guy, it starts off with the former being pretty nice to the other, even leading the latter who got lost back to the main crowd, then Guy accidentally hits the nail on the head with Rath's backstory, and then he tries to avoid Guy all of the sudden for the rest of the supports. With this in mind, Rath doesn't seem like he's very comfortable with people knowing about his childhood at all, at least, enough so that he suddenly goes from trying to lend someone a hand to being all "NOPE" whenever Guy shows up. So...dang...he must really trust Lyn a lot if he's going to tell her about something that makes him so uncomfortable.
-Also, might be reading too much into things, and maybe my shipping goggles are on too tight, but honest to goodness, when having Lyn talk to Rath in the main story to recruit him, the dialogue between them is so borderline flirtatious, IMO, it's adorable knowing they can hook up. And apparently, in some versions of the game (at least the German version (it was one of those days where I got bored and then watched LPs in languages I don't understand)), she even says his name after he goes off-screen... Dang -*-*shipping intensifies*-*

I found out that Lyndis and Rath are the 2nd fastest couple that can get an A support. The only other person Lyndis has a faster support growth with is Florina.

I think Tear Ring Saga is the champion of fleshing out it's characters. Every character gets backstory that ends up being related somewhere in the story, or especially in the ending, which is I also think is the most emotional in the series.

This Fire Emblem game is the only one I've really played so far, so I can't say much about any of the other games or characters from other games... so... I'm not sure if this is the best pairing in the WHOLE series, but I do agree it works quite well.

LynXHector is off character for her because she never wanted to be a noble and with Hector she is going to be a Queen which is something she didn’t want to be, they have chemistry and all but it’s more like two best friends arguing with each other, also Lyn dies in this pairing because Lillina mother is dead in binding blade.
LynXRath makes more sense than HectorXLyn first because he is from the plains just like her and in their ending they return to the plains together which is what she wanted since the start of the game.They also have chemistry and her support with Rath goes faster with him than with Hector. Her fate in binding blade is ambiguous so she could have lived and is not killed like in HectorXLyn.

I always thought that Lyn and Rath were straight up canon because of Sue and Shin, and Hector and Farina I also assumed were kinda Canon cuz she only appears in Hector mode and she ALSO has blue hair... buuuuuuut in the games I'd always pair Hector and Lyn instead of Lyn and Rath because the support bonus is just SO much better, because Lyn will never make use of that Hit bonus because her skill is already through the roof, and Lyn could always use more avoid and defense, so it just makes perfect sense, and the wind affinity for Hector works out perfectly as well (even though he can also get a Wind from Matthew, Lyn's the only romantic support that gives him wind)
but, Rath gets a crit boost, farm up his sword rank, he basically makes guy useless...

I agree 100%! Their pairing makes much more sense than any other lyn pairings. It would break her character if she was ever announced canon with Hector or Eliwood! Besides, Lyn and Rath have such in common. With the both of them not being introduced in FE Binding blade, the story of them and Sue makes great sense. Their pairing is more than just dramatic, it is true romance.

I agree with how well and effective the support works is it romance. However, Lyn has shown that she prioritizes her relationships with those she loves over her lifestyle. Just because she wouldn't be happyin ostia doesn't mean she wouldn't of made that choice if she truly loved Hector…

I didn't really know Rath's past until this video, and you know, you make a really good argument. This is a good ship, and I get the problem with Lyn and Hector as well.
I really really want to see them remake FE6 and just explain Lyn already. I really can't stand the idea of her being dead off-screen in that game.
I honestly would love it if towards the end of the game she joins the party during either the Sacae or Ilia route, maybe with older Rath or older Florina depending on the path. Just as a late-game swordmaster with custom animations. I'd love that.
Granted, there's the matter of her being maybe Lilina's mother, but that could be an interesting plot element for Lilina, Sue, and Lyn if they were half-siblings or something, and could help add character to them. Tbh I'd see the divorce as more a cause Lyn's disdain for the royal life and the eyes of Ostia than an issue with Hector himself. Sure it wouldn't be 100% happy, but could be an interesting alternate outcome if, say, they remade FE7 and 6 together and had a parent system.

like my main hope if FE7 ever gets remade is if In Lyn and Hectors ending they do imply a divorce happened sometime after Lillina's birth. either that or just rewrite the support so it fits better with Lyn as a character.
Yeah, they definitely have some hurdles to deal with if they ever remake FE6. I above everything else want them to turn into an FE7 sequel of sorts, but with the focus still on Roy. Just to fix some of the plot-holes all over that 20 year gap.

bit of a tangent topic but speaking of Fire emblem 7 pairing was i the only one who though initially that florina could pair with will. they both are introduced around the same time chapters apart, they are close to the group and to their leader lyn, and i always thought that through time and possibly support conversations that will could help florina out with her insecurities towards both men and archers and through that a romance could have been forged.

L9999 My Fir died in the arena against a mercenary. I must have had really bad rng at that moment. And plus her strength sucked so she could dish out any real damage.
Now, I've never played this game but and I'm sure I'm right on this, but I feel it's all mostly all just opinionated between the way it affects the story with best stat child with a specific character you like being with another character just because that's how you feel depending on which FE game you play. For example, I'll use Fates as the example because it's a more modern FE game that covers a big portion of it from friends-marrying, take Takumi and Oboro, whichever side you pick at one point you hear Oboro talk about how she likes/has feelings for Takumi, but you don't have to pair them up together, you could say pair Oboro up with Subaki to make a pretty good Caeldori and Takumi with Azura because I like their support together. I'm sure some supports make more sense than others like Sumia and Chrom compared to Xander and Azura, there's no exact reason why Azura and Xander should marry but it's possible...
that's the thing, you don't quite get how story pairings work until you play FE7, not saying you're wrong (you're correct in regards to fates) FE7 and sacred stones are a different beast in regards to supports.

Well they ran away for different reasons.
Yeah Joshua did it to explore the world outside of his castle while Lyndis wanted to back to the life she knew and loved.. man i wish some of these swordsmen in the fire emblem series got a bit more of screen time. Joshua, Lyn, Ike and Say'ri are all badass as hell not to mention some of the myrmidons and swordmasters in the series that offer you the flexibility to imagine what went through their lives like the solitary blade Lon'qu and the sword demon Karel(probably my favorite out of all characters i mentioned before him).

Just found this video and I agree, although I wouldn't call it the best support ever. This is the best support for Lyn and she deserves to be with Rath. He is a BEAST and one of the most consistently good characters in Fe 7.

Pretty interesting video. While your points do have solid base behind it, I would make the argument that Lyn x Tactician is also very likely. It's already fishy enough for her to have her existence not even be acknowledged in FE 6 as it is, but also it would appear that the tactician is the one who she has in her heart the most. Especially from her later appearances in Awakening where she ends up getting emotional and crying when she realizes that she's finally reunited with you. Same for Heroes where the conversations you have with her involve reminiscing about the tactician. It would make sense from a narrative perspective too, as despite him not serving any form of role or contribution to the main story, he is still responsible for literally changing her life, from one that'd live alone in the plains, to someone who'd get reunited with her only family member left, all the while making numerous friends and even saving the world. In theory, I suspect there's no acknowledgement of her in 6 because she probably chose to leave in search of the tactician who also disappeared after the events of 7 after choosing to head back to the plains alone. Whether she found him or not is obviously something nobody can answer. And of course, the argument can be made that the tactician doesn't have a set gender, but let's be real. Whilst people may view Corrin in canon terms as a woman, courtesy of Warriors, Robin's more or less seen from a mainstream audience as a man. As Chrom's best friend. I would argue the same for the tactician and whilst there are no plot points to back it up, the fact that his overworld sprite stays the same as a man, regardless of what you choose, gives me the belief that he was always intended to be viewed as that by the general audience. So yeah. That's my reason of why I view her and the tactician as the most probable pairing. Because in terms of narrative and what came after, it to me makes the most sense. God I hope the remake fixes all these plotholes. Extra points for the tactician having an actual role and personality this time around other than someone who introduces Dora the Explorer like moments 😂

This may be a bad place to ask, but I'm playing fe7 for the first time and I have no idea how to unlock supports. Can you unlock them in Lyn`s campaign? I'm already chapter 12 and no supports have happened or appeared so I feel like I need to go back. or maybe I shouldn't worry cause the game introduces it to me? (oh yeah it's also my first GBA fe too so I wouldn't know if its similar to other GBA games)
Ivy Gu supports Don't get built up in Lyn's mode, you don't unlock them until Eliwood's mode. they work the same as Awakening's in terms of building them up, but there's no visual cue. additionally, they're done on the battlefield by use of the "talk" command.

personally I ship Lyn and Kent. They have been together all this time after Lyn's story and I found it cute that in their A support, Kent states that even if he wasn't a knight, or her not being from noble birth, he would still be there by her side. Plus in their ending, she lives her life in the plains with Kent, which i I find adorable. To be honest, in my first playthrough, I forgot Rath even existed when he rejoined since I didn't use him in Lyn's story due to his base level. I can see your points and respect your opinion. It's just not my personal favorite.

While I admit this ship is good, I personally like her pairing with Kent better.
While I think Awakening has the "wittier" writing and Paths may have some of the selectively strongest supports in the series, I personally think FE7 had the best/ my favorite supports in the series. Almost everyone is connected to someone else or even groups of people in meaningful ways, and using the supports to peel back layers of depth to the characters and their relationships was a huge factor in my replaying the game multiple times. While I can't say that every character was as "unique" as the later games (lots of straight-laced knights and villagers fighting for a cause here), I felt like most of the characters' normalcy made them more believable, grounded, and real. Everyone had reasons to fight, goals they wanted to achieve, and histories that carried into their actual personas and interactions.
0ctopusComp1etely I agree. FE7 does have a very grounded nature. I think that personally, Sacred Stones strikes the best balance between wit and depth. Ephraim and L'Arachel's support being a perfect example

Recently, I got my friend into FE7, and she really likes it. This said friend is quite intelligent and also a fine connoisseur of writing, always seeing the logic behind the plot and couples in stories. If it don't make sense, she won't like it, and she thrives on interesting stories of many kinds. We ended up discussing ships and ship arguments and if they were valid, and on the subject of HectorXLyn, she said as such:
"I honestly can't find any valid reason why the two would have a romantic relationship, and honestly if it wasn't for the fact that they have the possible support to acquire, I don't think the fans would have come up with it themselves."

I don't know if you keep up with my Twitter, but recently I posted some hot takes on Hector x Lyn. because I think if they tweaked the supports and ending, and drew attention to the fact that their relationship would be dysfunctional and unsteady. (perhaps even implying a divorce) it could work. especially in fire emblem where Disney style "happily ever after" is the norm.
that being said, Lyn and Rath is still objectively better.
Well, this one seemed almost canon so it's rather normal that it is more developed thanks to Story Interaction that gives an additional layer to the pairing. This is what Awakening and Fates tried to avoid to let players be free to put any character with any other one. Don't know if it's a good thing though. Maybe doing some kind of balance between certain characters that could have balanced pairings and others that don't might be a solution for IS. Well, with SoV we won't have the choice though ^^;

My main gripe with this video was the pacing and timing of the support dialogue when read aloud. It follows the text too closely and causes uniterest in the viewer. If you were to do a dialogue reading again, pull up the scripts on Fire Emblem wiki or even write them down so you don't have to follow the text exactly and the reading with flow much more fluidly. Other than that, great vid. Lyn X Rath is best pairing
yeah i certainly messed up in that regard. I do want to redo this video at some point in the future as a result of those mistakes but nonetheless I'm glad you enjoyed the actually good parts.

No problem. Lyn shines in her supports, but she is a little bland in the story, and her supports with Hector, funnily enough. She's very much a fates Character before fates was a thing, bland/underutilized in the story, but has amazing Supports.
