  • Had the chance to do the Classic TT Parade this year so here is the on bike footage I took. 31 years since I last rode the closed course and boy does it show. With no practice there was loads I couldn't remember and I was amazed at how dark and bumpy the roads were under the trees. On and off the throttle like a yo yo and I find it hard to watch. Kept it to 16000 rpm in top to try and complete the lap without popping the motor and it sort of worked. Ended up with a 30 minute lap at 75mph average and with the bike only pushing 115/120 mph I should be happy but there you go.

    Yes , definitely undergeared , a tooth higher would have been kinder to the engine too !

      Do you know what a RC 162 is? Do you know what the range of gearing should be? Do you know what the speeds in each gear should be?

    This was as entertaining now as it was the 1st time I watched it some time ago!
    Question sir.....Why was it geared so short? You could have dumped 6 teeth off the rear cog it seems.

      Sadly my late brother who is riding passed away in 2017 from brain tumours. I know he limited revs to 16,000 as wanted to ensure finishing. Could rev to 20,000. Also no practice laps so was quite pleased to exceed 70mph average.

    Absolutely brilliant, very nostalgic sounds of the TT. Takes me back! Many thanks for putting this out there.

      Sadly lost my brother to brain tumours in late 2017 but at least he got to make this and a few other videos at various tracks during his early retirement. That Honda was something special. Jim Redman did a few laps on it in Belgium and was very impressed.

    That gives off a very different sound with those 4-4 pipes instead of the standard 4-2-1 doesn't it? Wow.

    That motor sounds incredible. Is it all stock internally?

    Great video with brilliant sound. Can I have your permission to use some of this footage on my channel and credit you with the ownership? What's the name of the onboard rider? Cheers.

      Hi there Manxmann, the owner of this TH-cam account (aka my father) sadly passed away 5 years ago so it's hard to tell if he would or wouldn't give you permission. Apologies for this mate. 😞

    I love the sound of your bike, I followed you for a while just to listen to the exhausts, then I pass you at 6minutes 10 seconds on the RG500 with blue and white leathers on. Then you followed me for a couple of minutes.What great weather it was for a ride out.

      +stevebozzy964 Hi there. Yes we had the very best of weather for the time we were there. I remember you coming past just before Ballacraine and you were a good guide for me until you went away just after Laurel Bank. I hope you enjoyed your time over there as much as I did.

      +palinuro893 Hi Nico. Loved it. If I could have had a few laps to remember it better I think I could have had a cleaner lap but there were parts I simply could not remember. Enjoyed my run over the mountain and it makes you appreciate how good the riders are to do such quick laps. A brilliant six days.

    Very nice bike, but why did you decide to use a camera from the 70s? These things must be more expensive than modern ones by now. :D

    • @TMAX2001
      @TMAX2001  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I suppose because it still works. Had thought of getting something more modern but when you're in your sixties you never seem to get round to doing it :)

      TMAX2001 Well, I guess your priorities regarding motorbikes and cameras are very similarly set to mine. :)
      Just please ever ever swap your bike out for a new one instead!

    Awesome! It's been a dream of mine to ride the closed course some day. Seems unlikely for a foreigner not heavily involved in racing though.

    May I ask which engine is being used here?

    • @TMAX2001
      @TMAX2001  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Coldsmoke Hi there. Many thanks for your kind words. The engine is the Honda CBR250R ( MC19 model ) from 1988. 4 cylinder 4 stroke 250 cc 48.3 mm bore and 33.8 mm stroke.

    TMAX2001... :) Wow.. That's living the dream. Nice lap overall. Last time I did a few laps (open roads and with pillion) was way back in the 1970 astride a Norton Commando Roadster (with shaky engine mounts) and I somewhat matched your lap time give or take a bit... lol Ta for the nostalgia hit... loved it.

    • @TMAX2001
      @TMAX2001  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks for the comments. I hope you get the chance to do some more laps one day. My lap was nigh spot on 30 minutes which comes out at just over 75 mph average.

    • @Dewstepper
      @Dewstepper 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In 1970 I did my first few laps ever on a somewhat ropey 500 Triumph, a Daytona I think. On about my 3rd or 4th lap a guy wearing one of those rubberised trench-coats and a helmet with a peak and on an oldish looking bike (which made me think he was ancient compared to my mere 17 years) overtook me with comparative ease. Sooo I thought "I will show him, the cheeky old git" and tucked in behind him to wait my chance.... as we cruised up to and thru' Laurel Bank and then Glen Helen, with me trying to follow his lines, he just kept easing further and further away from me until he just disappeared out of sight. By Cronk-y-Voddy he was gone and I never caught up with him on that lap. Taught me a big lesson about not judging people by their age or bike.

      Not surprising since my late brother only got the one "parade" lap with no practice. Still averaged 75mph. Lost him 2 years later from brain tumours.
