I too was given a teddy bear the day I was born. I was a premie so I was only 4lbs and fit in my mom's palm. My teddy was a regular size one? Kinda looked the way the old Downey Softener bear looked (but only the eyes were made of plastic/resin). She's still with me after all these decades. So I'm happy you found Morgan again~

Hey Jess, still on replay watching 😁 but wanted to let you know, that I freaking loved „the high 5 habit“ by Mel Robbins ☺️
    2 other things:
concerning self help/development books- the podcast „how to be fine“ (not up to date now) used to be called „by the book“ and 2 lovely friends (one who really wasn’t into those kind of books ^^) decided to break them down to the „major rules“, live by them for 2 weeks and let ppl know how they (and their husbands 😁) felt through it. Very entertaining- at least for me ☺️ however, start with the oldest episodes (or whatever book they covered interests you) now they‘re having a different format. (They also did the magic of tidying up 😉)
For non US based authors and easy listening (as fiction/fantasy) I‘d recommend the elves series by Bernhard Hennen. Still a white dude though ^^
And hope the translation is good! I read the first few books when they came out - feels like another life 🤣 I now have struggle to read, listening is way easier for me, so I went back to listen to those at some point. Still love the books, the characters & how he developed & shapes them to be.
(Although, the first book took me some time to get into it - but for me, it was worth it ☺️ even if today, I might be way more critical about some stuff, I still enjoyed it a lot. Maybe due to nostalgia & my background in science of religions 😂
Nerd alert: didn’t write on his ones, but they got me the idea to compare legends/lore and way more to newer religious/spiritual developments and how they shape some of the belief systems in modern Western Europe - and maybe beyond? - and the media as well 😊 like the whole elves theme with Dobby eg and with giving them clothes in HP has undeniably roots in several Scandinavian „legends“ etc. ☺️ ok, stopping now with nerding out - sorry 🙈😂 can’t help myself sometimes ^^ kind of like buying washis 🤣)

I use storygraph instead of goodreads! I enjoy the filtering and suggestions, and that it is not an amazon company so you arent only seeing what amazon is trying to push. I find the reviews awesome because there is no ability for people to leave toxic replies underneath reviews if they dont agree with you. When you review something you can leave trigger warnings that help advise other people against it, if that is inportant to you. I do not avoid any content but i try to mark them to help other people. You can also block any books as suggestions that have specific triggers in different severity super easily in your settings.
There is the ability to join reading challenges (its a little annoying to add books to the prompts i will say) and a ton of charts/graphs that sort data based on the books ypu log as read!

It's not an interaction platform so much as it is something more personal but you can have little windows into other people's reading and do buddy reads and such.

I adopted this rating system upon watching your first book review vid (and going into a deep dive on Book Roasts' how-to guide), but haven't actually used it yet. Now that I'm finally wrapping up the final 100~ pages of ACOSF (total coicidence, OMG), its almost time for me to review also! Hearing your perspective in the reivew with using the same method was very insightful. Thoroghly enjoyed the whole video :) Thank you!

Hey Jess! The reason that G has a scale within a scale when it comes to the final ratings is because she wanted a smaller margin for what would be considered a 5 star read. She does mention in the video that if you use the digital version of CAWPILE that can be adjusted for your preference. So it could match up perfectly if you wanted (:

    • @JashiiCorrin
      @JashiiCorrin  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah, I figure that if a book rates high enough to get an average of five (or rounds to 5) that’s good enough for a 5-star read for me 😝 cool that her spreadsheet can be adjusted 🤙 I’m a bit particular when it comes to my spreadsheets, so at some point I’ll make my own (properly, lol) 💪

Maybe you need a DNFY (Did Not Finish Yet) list for those books you don’t want to finish right now, but might want to pick back up at another time. 🤔

I have an Alastair system in my reading journal. I have been using the categories for a while, but just put it in the A columns for December. The columns for my journal are: book clubs, new book, direction, fo, dnf, ongoing, bought #. FO is finished object as in done reading it, and didn’t dnf it. Direction is a at the end of the month discussion between the new books and fo books as I have an overarching goal of making more things finished than I started in the last time frame. Bought number of books is just the first month of tracking this, November was huge for holidays gifts, and another goal is to be mindful about what is purchased. Oh, I just looked at the book again and the bought column is actually the dollar amount rounded up to a whole dollar amount as A&O dot grid is tiny.
As for me to count a book as fo, I will have read it enough to understand the meaning.
If it’s a non fiction story I skim through the rest of the book to see if there’s anything else in there interesting. Pretty much the same thing for fiction too, and it’s easier to skim physical books than ebooks as I have more experience with that process.

Morning pages done with people all over the world simultaneously, in a body doubling situation, would need some people to be doing morning pages at decidedly non morning times.
I think it’s supposed to be the first thoughts of your day before you get to anything else. I don’t think it’s super important for timing. I also think time is a socially agreed upon construct, so take these with a pinch of salt as you will.

REALLY late comment on the "Burnout" book. I am a behavioral/mental health provider in the U.S. and I have read the book for myself and as continuing education personal development for work with clients. I found that it was insightful and provided great ideas of how to address burnout. However, I noticed this was apparent for me due to my specific training in cognitive behavioral therapy and associated interventions. I have wondered whether it would be as beneficial for folx who do not have specific mental health training since there are suggestions for lifestyle changes with evidence. But it lacks trouble shooting of how to concretely apply it in our lives across more than just the presented contexts/situations. My personal/non-professional (because context matters) thoughts which are not facts! 😊
