I may try to use large cans for the firebox with lots of airflow. I don't have birch bark but I have dead stalks from my Jerusalem artichokes that I plant all year. I am enjoying it quite a bit Mark, I'm trying to learn as many ways as possible to use this stove. At Bushcraft Canada they sell a leather sleeve but it's $55.00 so I decided to make my own. That's a great idea. I have the Bushbox XL titanium that we used last week on a wild hike and camp. Using a Swedish fire torch idea looks like a better idea than constantly feeding wood into the stove. I found that by constantly adding wood meant that we had to much smoke and flames. Will certainly be giving this a go at home before trying on a camp.

Thanks Martin, I would definitely recommend using a little bigger diameter of wood for it to be a tighter fit. By doing that the flame will really direct itself up the centre, but ya it works great !. All the best in the New Year buddy

Steve, the creator of the Firebox did this. Except he split a single piece of log into 4 pieces and inserted them with the inside out, then lit the wood with a similar technique as above.
@@Roarmeister2 Hes done both methods, wrist size peices and full logs. You gotta give applause to Steve at Firebox he really puts his product to the test, and doesn't sell his product with buzzwords or promises like many other manufacturers.

Good demonstration, another addition you can use in here is turning the bottom ash pan upside down and holding them in place with fire sticks, it then can be used as a draw control to cut off the draught and use it as a damper...

Part of your issue is you needed to put a flat side in each log then face those splits to each other. It gives a better place for th3 logs to catch, and offers access to the dryer inner log
I like to get some hot coals going in my stove while I collect firewood for a larger campfire, then use the remaining fire from the stove to start the campfire just by pouring out the coals into the camapfire with some kindling. It's alot easier to start a fire in these stoves due to the wind protection and height of the fuel stack then the other way around.
It's just a regular canvas military style shoulder bag I bought at a thrift store but it holds all the gear I had with me for that day. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment ! 👍

Before I watched the video , I’m asking why would you need more than one piece of wood for one meal? One split like a large log should be more than enough , only takes 7 minutes on average to boil water with wood
Great demo Wayne. I love my Firebox. Haven't done too many different things with it yet but what I have it has worked wonderfully. I also have the nano for backpacking and it is great as well. What type of wood did you use? Thanks for sharing!
It burns very well but I have only tried the regular stick burn. You can do a fire torch as well and I will get to trying that someday but usually when I am out I only need to boil water so haven't needed the prolonged burn yet. For me it is the most versatile stove for the weight. Love that I can use alcohol, wood or Esbit solid fuel.
Probably one of the best built and versatile stoves you can own !...I say this to everyone " You won't regret it"....If you're worried about the weight they do make a titanium version of this stove as well.
It's because rich people are prepared to pay to own named brands. Same as named brand sneakers, jeans, whatever. I buy Chinese knockoffs of all the big brand bushcraft and outdoor stuff. I've rarely had issues with any of them.

I've found if you feather the logs a little bit facing into the centre it helps them catch a little bit quicker!

Splitting the sticks and increasing the cross grains in the wood will increase the heat output of the fire!
I get about a 45 minute burn with a Swedish torch in a Nano, splitting a limb in quarters, flipping the pieces, bark inward.

You could fold up the bottom plate and fit longer logs in there.
