I truly believe that being one with every living thing brings us to a greater understanding and awareness of who we really are.
We play a specific role on this earth, some seemingly greater than others.
Although the connections we all share are not always evident, never the less we are somehow all bonded together.
In the bigger picture of life....we are one.
This channel is geared towards mostly outdoor activities such as Bushcraft, Canoeing, camping and some out door product reviews.
My approach to the outdoors is simply to enjoy the moment, find the extraordinary in the ordinary and to respect Mother earth

Winter day out...enjoying the snow, Steak on fire, Flint and steel fire start, wood processing
With one of the first snow falls in Nova Scotia that didn't turn to rain, I decided to go out in the woods for the afternoon. At - 9 celsius with the wind chill it was a great crisp day. I decided to use flint and steel to light the fire, have a coffee and cook a steak on the grill and spend the rest of the day just chilling. Hope you all enjoy !...I sure did (o :

LL Bean Continental rucksack "After 1 year" review
มุมมอง 18K5 ปีที่แล้ว
I received quite a few comments and questions about this rucksack I've been using for the past year so decided to make an "After 1 year Review". I also wanted to give Derrick from Triple X Knives a big thank you for gifting me a beautiful neck knife.

In this video I'm just out in the woods to do some carving with of course coffee, and I show how balsam fir resin can take marginal tinder and increase your chances to get a flame.

Trying out a modified US military canvas tent I had made, this trip wasn't really planned but time became available, had brought the camera anyways so i pieced this together... Hope you enjoy ! Lixada Gasifier/Stick Stove review
มุมมอง 5K8 ปีที่แล้ว
This is an import gasification stove that I found worked very efficiently. Boiled 0.8 litres of water in about 6 minutes.
Why can't people who are reviewing a product tell right at the beginning how much the thing costs? That way when you find out that it's more than you're willing to pay, you can immediately skip the video.
Great review. I just picked one up for $25.00 used. I'm looking forward to putting it to use. Side question: Who made your anorak?
My Anorak was made by Derrick Tapping of XXX knives. Unfortunately he is no longer in business ... Great used find on the ruck sack !!!
What about the wool shirt/cover with the knife pocket? That thing is awesome!
Yes the Anorak jacket was made in Canada by A Canadian knife maker who started getting into other bushcraft related items. Unfortunately he is no longer in business but his Anorak and his knives were awesome. Thanks for taking the time to comment !
👍🏻👍🏻🔥
👍🏻👍🏻🔥
Thank you for this video. I like the way the technique worked out. Definitely better than continuously feeding in dozens of small bits. Glowing red coals are the best. As the late, great Bro Greg always said, "When you have coals, you can do no wrong." Subscribed.
Just found your channel - love your content!!!! Great review of this pack - they just came out with a bigger version of this pack. Are you not making any more videos?
Thanks so much !...Yeah it's been awhile since I posted anything and thats simply due to time restraints with work. I am retiring soon so plan to do it on a more consecutive level. I want to focus more on outings which will include winter camping and of course canoe tripping. Thanks for taking the time to comment !!
Hey look everyone!! This man has a saw!! Doesn't have to beat his knives to death to cut a piece of wood!!! Love the video, thank you.
You are right, a knife is a knife, a hatchet is a hatchet and a saw is a saw.
You really cant go wrong with LL Bean, hahaha. there is always something cool to see in that store or flyer. We are on the hunt for a new pack ourselves, so thanks for sharing this detailed review mate. Keep the adventures coming!
Thank you !, Yes it is a great store. Good luck with your pack hunt, now days there is so much to choose from !!
@@highlandtrekker that has its pros and cons for sure. just glad there is a ton of creators out there like yourself helping make our decision easier.
Good idea that. 👍 I think ill give it a go myself. 🔥
THANK YOU!!! I knew we could use smaller logs, I don't have many large ones but I have a million ones like yours, I live in the woods. I will never run out. The other way is too work intensive. I may try to use large cans for the firebox with lots of airflow. I don't have birch bark but I have dead stalks from my Jerusalem artichokes that I plant all year. They are just like and burn just like birch. Fantastic video thank you.
You are so welcome ! 😃
I like the Swedish torch and the damper. This is for cooking and not just boiling water
Spoilt by too much talking. Its a common problem with north americans that they think they need to explain every little detail. That maybe necessary for folks from new york but not for the rest of the world. Just rerun the video and ask yourself does that action actually need an explanation?
Thanks for your honest comment : )
Nice! Just got one :D
A great idea! 🙂👍🏻👍🏻
Hey, I wish I could go on a long day with you, live in the woods, and go camping 😢
For anyone watching this review. I got mine Oct 2022 and my 32oz Nalgene and Hydroflask bottles DO fit absolutely fine on the side pockets with some room to spare. I guess they fixed it. They also have free return shipping. I recommend it and it won’t cost you anything if you don’t like it.
I'm glad to hear that...so many people texted me saying that they could not fit a Nalgene stainless steel bottle with a 750ml cup in the side pockets
looks like a vietnam alice pack
They been making these fine products for a hundred years if they work in Minnesota they will work anywhere
You got that right !, Love everything about it from it's quality build to it's traditional look !
I love this pack, I have had it since 2017. One trick I picked up was to find a plastic rectangle office type trash can and slit it into the main compartment. It adds rigidity and helps to waterproof your gear. The trashcan can also be used to get water or collect firewood etc.
That is a great idea...I've been looking for a trash can to fit my Frost River Royal Jr. pack but haven't had any luck as of yet. Thanks for taking the time to comment !
Thats a great idea. Dont tell backpack companies.

That's a great idea. I have the Bushbox XL titanium that we used last week on a wild hike and camp. Using a Swedish fire torch idea looks like a better idea than constantly feeding wood into the stove. I found that by constantly adding wood meant that we had to much smoke and flames. Will certainly be giving this a go at home before trying on a camp.
thorough review. thanks!
Good video especially in the cold snow environment ! I bought one-
You won't regret it !!
Great ideas. I will have to try burn method. I also dig your leather work using leather from a leather couch. brilliant recycling idea.
Thanks !...Yeah the sheath was quite easy to make
Excellent video. Well explained and straight to the point. Feeling inspired! Many thanks from the UK 🇬🇧. Ben
Thank you so much... that's the whole point "To inspire". I appreciate you taking the time to comment !
I'm gunna get one i think
Probably one of the best built and versatile stoves you can own !...I say this to everyone " You won't regret it"....If you're worried about the weight they do make a titanium version of this stove as well.
What is that overcoat your wearing
It is a woolen anorak that was made here in Nova Scotia....due to health reasons the owner closed shop and they are no longer produced. Thanks for taking the time to comment !
@@highlandtrekker ah man!

I believe what you are trying to say is that this is a fire type from Finland and not from Sweden...sorry for my error if that is the case. For some reason around here in North America it is referred to as the "Swedish Torch". Thanks so much for taking the time to comment !
I get about a 45 minute burn with a Swedish torch in a Nano, splitting a limb in quarters, flipping the pieces, bark inward.
That's good to know !, I don't own a Nano but am considering getting one for a light weight option when I go on day trips !!. Thanks for taking the time to comment !
Thank you for this great review! I just got my own Firebox yesterday and am excited to try it out, very cool to see it in actual, practical use as you've shown.
You're very welcome !...It's a great stove, I'm sure you won't have any regrets !! Thanks fort taking the time to comment
liked the video, thanks for sharing
I love mine!
Great review. Great boots . And casually pulling out birch barks out of pocket... He is one of us !! LMAO 🤣
I like how he utilizing garbage into nice case . He is one of us ! 👍😉
Nice video. What's that wool jacket you have on?
It's made by a company called Triple X here in Canada....Due to health reason the owner had to take a leave. It was a Great affordable choice !!
@@highlandtrekker Thanks for responding. Do you have any other suggestions for something similar?
@@shizzydeep6867 The only Co. I am aware of that make wool anoraks is 'Mountain Boreal" ....more expensive but the highest of quality !
@@shizzydeep6867 No sorry I don't
Would like to see more about all the equipment, clothes, etc. you use.
I dont recommend this bag at all. Way too heavy for size and the outside pockets suck.
I don't mind this bag but like I said mine seems to have different dimensions to the newer models. As for it being heavy, it's ultra light compared to my Isle Royal Jr. lol. thanks for taking the time to comment !
added later... l.l. bean now has a new and improved version of this bag called the weekender. seems to be enlarged to 45 liters from the 32 of the original. But they say it's over 5 lbs which is heavy. Reluctantly I ordered the new bag, but seems to be some significant shipping delays.
I got my weekender in last week, so far I'm digging it. But I've only taken it out once
We used our folding fire box about a year ago and this concept works extremely well.
It is, Seems to be best for a good consistent heat !. Thanks for taking the time to comment !
When you tell us that the water is at rolling boil, you wisely allowed us to see it for ourselves. That's the mark of a good videographer!
Thank you so much !! I have been inactive for over a year but will be getting back into it as of the new Year....RETIREMENT !!
Hello, do you know what the L.L Bean company calls the color of your continental model backpack? , Thank you so much.
I believe it's tan
Nice review, nice video, nice knife. Thanks for doing this.
Your very welcome !! Thanks for taking the time to comment
Before I watched the video , I’m asking why would you need more than one piece of wood for one meal? One split like a large log should be more than enough , only takes 7 minutes on average to boil water with wood
Haha...this was a tip I saw on the Firestove web page
Can you confirm what year this pack is from (roughly)? I bought mine in 2020 and it's significantly different and not in a good way. The pockets on the side and back are smaller, have extra stitching which restricts their opening and the color of the material is noticeably lighter (much more beige and less brown/red). Also it seems like the loops at the bottom of the bag are smaller too. I'd like to know because I'm going to contact LL Bean and raise this issue with them.
My bag was purchased in 2018, I Changed the bottom straps to accept longer ones...the original straps were much shorter. This bag has held up well, it's too bad they made changes !
Excellent demonstration I love my firebox as well extremely efficient and multifunctional!!😁✊🔥
Love my Firebox !!...I'll take it's heftier weight !
my nalgene def doesn't fit in the side compartments, may have the newer model
Yeah mine fits the Nalgene and the nesting cup just fine...I must of got mine just before they changed the specs !
@@highlandtrekker Yeah, the materials are cheaper looking too. The new one has really bad reviews, not the legendary backpack it used to be.
Great video and beautiful neck knife. My wife actually bought me a Continental Ruck but mine instead of the fastex buckles on the outside middle pocket it has a zipper but the 2 side pouches have fastex buckles I'm wondering if that is just a difference in design depending on the year it was made maybe?
Thanks...Not sure when they changed to Zippers, but I know the side pockets are smaller on the new models, hope this was some help
QUESTION: Titanium or SS? I NEED the light weight of the Titanium, but recently heard it's not too strong when hot? Is this a problem for anyone?
I can't really comment on the Titanium, I've never owned one but I can tell you the stainless is not a light weight stove but is built like a tank. I also can say that Steve at Firebox is very serious about the products he sells and does extensive testing before releasing it to the public...I would trust his products no matter which one you decide to go with.
