    They were thrown out of a dive bar in my home town (near Boston) for playing originals when they were only supposed to be playing covers. Six months later they were the biggest band in the country.

      Agreed The RRHOF are shitlords for a number of reasons. In example by reading comments on other Cars' vids, I assume Cheap Trick made it into the RRHOF already. I saw Cheap Trick as an opening act for one of the very relevant large arena rock bands back in the 80s (Cheap Trick already had one of their semi-hits out). My friends and I and a lot of other people booed them lol. They sucked, were like a band "pretending" to be rock stars. Really, they were just kinda sad and goofy. Cheap Trick were very lucky they were getting booked as an opening act during the 80s era of huge arena rock, they rode that era's coattails to success. I saw everyone from The Police to ACDC in the 80s, Cheap Trick *sucked* and were posers - but they're in the RRHOF before The Cars *lmao*

    Some bands just are a soundtrack of a genre of a persons life, for me The Cars were a life changing soundtrack as I went from kid to cool young teenager in 7th and 8th grade and I remember my girl so vividly the summer in between my 7th and 8th grade year, it was like 81/82 ish. To this day we are still friends and to this day if a Cars song pop's on the radio either I will text her or she will text me. What a time it was. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world..

    I never would have guessed a sound like this had come out in the early 80's. It sounds like what the indie pop bands nowadays are trying to emulate (except the Cars actually got it right). Wayyyy ahead of their time.

    Got really stoned and he played the cars album...
    Needless to say, I was blown away!!! Loved them since!
    Thank you boy's for making the 1980's so so much better!!

    wow....king crimson influences comin thru?.....infinite guitar and the odd syncopated keys sequence?.....what a great tune and great performance......just dont see bands takin these chances while creating some nice melodies and memorable songwriting at the core....instantly recognizable vocals......miss it.

      Considering the 80-81 season might be the most forgettable season (the first post Lorne Michaels season, with Gilbert Gottfried and Charles Rocket part of the cast), Fridays actually had a better show for a time. Then NBC realized what Eddie Murphy could do and the show was revived.

    Maybe not their most inspired performance, but this is a really brilliant song. It's what I'd call "deceptively simple", because there's more going on with it than you'd think. Any one part is pretty simple (especially that bass line), but the way they're put together gives it a special complexity. The studio version is amazing (plus a perfect way to start their _Shake It Up_ album), and I'm pretty sure they've done better live versions than this.

    • @philiponcale1820
      @philiponcale1820 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Not an overly complicated piece but the unusual lyrics and melodic instrumentals are combined really well. Some people might call it music for music nerds.
