Oh my gosh Benjamin I can't believe it's been 24 years since you've been gone. I'm 69 now, I was 24 when I saw you guys live. You would've been 77. I'm so sorry you're gone. I lost my son to Cancer 4 years ago. No one should die before their time. I'll never forget you. I know how much you must have suffered because I took care of my son until he died right in front of me. I think he would've loved the Cars. He always loved bands that were different just like me. I pray that there is a place in Heaven for you and of course my son. I want all the good ones to be there. 😔💔💙💙❤️❤️😇😇🙏🙏🙏💕💕
It's funny that you bring up Benjamin Orr. I was a big Cars fan back in the day and saw them in concert at the old Philadelphia Spectrum in '81 during the Shake it Up Tour. Just this year, I found out that Ben was born and raised in Lakewood, OH., which is about a 12 to 15 minute drive from where I live. It's a small world.
Great lyrics! Didn't realize it until a few years out of high school in the early eighties and how it's so true with some girls you can't get over but you move on! Great band!
Almost hard to listen to this because it takes me directly back to the best days of my life. I still have a great life all these years later but that was the absolute peak and The Cars were the soundtrack, especially Candy-O. It was a wild time, a free time, like no other.
The coolest things about them was their unique sound and lyrics. If you heard a new song from them on the radio you immediately knew it was The Cars. There was no confusing them with any other band.
Oh my gosh ! My most favorite Cars song ever ! I saw them live back in 1979. They were absolutely awesome ! I had the biggest crush on Benjamin Orr. I just recently found out he was gone. That damn Cancer took my son when he was 32. I was devastated. Poor Benjamin. My husband can't stand it when I talk about Benjamin but that's before we even met. I have so much love and compassion for people , especially when they die too young. But I will never stop listening to the Cars ! NEVER ! 😌💔❤️💙💙😇😇🎸🎶
That's what was so great about all the bands in the 70's and 80's, they all had their own unique sound. Nowadays everyone sounds the same, and there is really no new creativity.
I was the lead guitar player in a 90's band called "The Refreshments". Elliot Easton is the single most underrated guitarists of all time. Listen to his brilliance in making the absolute most of the neck's melodic playground in a limited ammount of measures!!! Friggin' GENIUS! He was and continues to be a HUGE influence on my playing,. Man, this dude absolutely slays in the most melodic and comcise leads. WOW! JUST WOW!!!!🤘❤🤘❤ I ❤❤❤❤❤ THE CARS!!!! B.
So much underrated song from the The Cars. Man I feel like still being the 80, and gradating in 87 from high school and "The Cars" albums came out in the my school years. I'm jamming the cars albums last night in my garage and my kids going; what is it like being in school in the 80's dad??? Well I going tell them it was the best years tonight when I get home from work today!
I know what you mean, I was there too and sometimes it feels like it was just a dream. But I have to say it's kind of sad how kids today are asking their parents about their time in H.S. with such a wishing attitude..... Why aren't they making their own Times, their own destiny and fate. This society has really sucked the life out of these kids. I'd say it started somewhere in the mid to late 90's and now it's just a completely vapid, lifeless, soulless existence. I don't know how they can just keep plodding along.....
It DOES hurt listening this. I was 18 in 1980, I'm 61 now and this song hits me even DEEPER than in my youth. Scary to think Benjamin and Rik are on the other side of time. I hope they're allowed to peel back the veil and take a peek on Earth to see just how much they meant to SO MANY Souls. THANK YOU guys, for sharing your art and talents with us, we appreciate you. Till we see you on the other side...but not yet, not yet! 😎😎🙏🇺🇲🇯🇲🙏🏿🥰 😎☺️💖🥰🐞☘️🏁🙏🏽🙏🙏🏻🙏🏿😇😇

Benjamin Orr. I think overlooked and underrated as a part of one of the greatest bands in my lifetime. No discredit to Ric Ocasek but I think Ben felt a bit of under appreciation towards the end. He got sick and died too early.
What's so cool about the Cars is that it's about really great songs performed well. Not about choreography and celebrity and antics and spandex and spectacle. Each member is like a back up to the others. They almost seem like one of those 50s or 60s bands on Ed Sullivan in demeanor and yet they are a timeless kick ass rock band. No grandstanding. The singer sings then backs up to let the other instrumentals have prominence and then cooly steps back up to continue singing. Just a cool band with cool songs. I use the word cool a lot in this comment, but that's because the Cars are so damn cool.
It's called 'work ethic'. (In many of their vids, you can tell Rick and Ben are giving body language cues to each other as to how well both them, and the rest of the band, are doing their jobs of keeping with what Ric and Ben expect.) Tight formation and harmony. :)
It is clear from the many comments, and I agree, the Cars evoke some of the strongest feelings of nostalgia for that era when compared to other bands of the period. I think in addition to the music being so good, it was due to the real shift in rock sound and cultural change that they ushered in.
I remember buying the 45 of "Let's Go" and this was the song on the flip side. I wore both sides out in relatively short order. Thanks for the great memories.
These guys were f$@king great, one of the best concerts I've ever seen, clean tight pure sounding, and I've seen many of the best. Their sound was so unique with pop, rock, new wave, techno influences combining to make their own original sound. They were so fresh sounding when their first album came out, everyone was playing it at the parties. I'd go as far as to say no one was like this since The Beatles in uniqueness and sound.
One of my favorite songs by the Band! I played it on cassette while driving my 1970 Buick Convertible (First Car). This song hits me where my memories lie in my youth! Wow!
There just aren't many groups in these modern times that have the longevity or greatness of 70's bands like The Cars. Man these guys just had hit after hit well into the 80"s. RIP Ric and Ben, you guys left an indelible mark in this world.
Over the years I thought about how unique The Cars were in their music. Now as I read all these comments from this post and others, the one overriding point that comes across is that when you heard The Cars you always knew it was them, because no one else sounded like them. They were so special and their music made an indelible mark in rock history. I miss them now ,so many years later. But I consider my self lucky to have seen them live back in the 80’s. RIP BEN and RIC.
Man these guys are magic I grew up to these guys and I am fighting back tears missing benjamin orr and ric ocasek but someday we might all see the best concert ever when we join them when we have our number called with the rest of the guys
The great days when we waited for the vinyl albums to come out......i use to buy mine at Sears,my late father would give money to spend while he would shop at the tool or auto department.
I saw him at Wurlitzer music in Boston when I purchased a couple of drums back in 1983. He was being a complete pompous condescending asshole to the clerk, I felt so bad that I went to the clerk after he left to see if he was ok, he said yes he is like that to everybody..
Joe Cap yeah, sorry but I don’t see him that way. He might’ve been an asshole then, but I’m sure he was just going through the struggles of fame. I’m sure he’s a much better guy.
Sweet 💙💙 Saw the first tour at Nassau Coliseum. Moving in Stereo and Drive are my faves. If it comes up in the car everyone goes oooo. Unforgettable Ben Orr.
late 70s in austin, texas....saw them live....listened to them endlessly....this is the ultimate of audio traveling....no bombs, no fireworks, no chicks dancing around....just the sound, the emotion, the feeling, the intensity of their perfect combination of chords,,,,,,the good old days??

Ahhh, the memories of listening to this song with friends during the 80's. Some are gone now but the rest are married with kids and grandkids. We had a great time back then.
Really loved this song from the day I first heard it over 30 years ago. Such a great mix of a driving percussion riff accentuated by great keys and guitar. Ben Orr's singing was always so under rated. He was a master of the clear blue-eyed soul with a great command of the pitch.
Such an eclectic group of musicians and liked them as soon as I heard their song on the radio for the first time back in the late 70’s - Let the Good Times Roll. Been a Cars fan ever since. RIP Ben and Ric.

Totally agree. I get a lump in my throat listening to The Cars.
The great days when we waited for the vinyl albums to come out......i use to buy mine at Sears,my late father would give money to spend while he would shop at the tool or auto department.
This is just a awesome song. Holding up to the test of time.
One of those great songs that take me back like a lightning bolt to a specific time in my life...
I like this band more and more with the passing of time.
The best album of the cars even in 2024
Another stunning solo by the criminally underrated Elliot Easton
I saw him at Wurlitzer music in Boston when I purchased a couple of drums back in 1983. He was being a complete pompous condescending asshole to the clerk, I felt so bad that I went to the clerk after he left to see if he was ok, he said yes he is like that to everybody..
@@joecap2919 thats sad
Joe Cap yeah, sorry but I don’t see him that way. He might’ve been an asshole then, but I’m sure he was just going through the struggles of fame. I’m sure he’s a much better guy.
That dude is a SICK PLAYER!
He's like the Eddie Van Halen of the Cars
Such an awesome band!!This song reminds me of you my beautiful sister Bonnie. Miss you and love you forever!!
Sweet 💙💙 Saw the first tour at Nassau Coliseum. Moving in Stereo and Drive are my faves. If it comes up in the car everyone goes oooo. Unforgettable Ben Orr.
I'm old. I grew up with Cars and Bens' passing was hard. Now Rick.
What waits for us, who knows, but I hope it is these guys giving us more.
Solid time machine. Thank you Ric & co
Excellent Song/Band!!!!!
late 70s in austin, texas....saw them live....listened to them endlessly....this is the ultimate of audio traveling....no bombs, no fireworks, no chicks dancing around....just the sound, the emotion, the feeling, the intensity of their perfect combination of chords,,,,,,the good old days??
Yes, indeed the” good old days” so many great memories (and some fuzzy memories) listening to the Cars…..
When I was a teenager it was one of my favorite groups. Now in my 50s still one of my favorites...RIP Ric and Ben
I was in high school in the early 80's and a Saturday night cruisin up and down the main street just wasn't complete without a Cars cassette blasting in our truck stereo!!!!!
Brings back many great memories of the 80's...We always jammed out to The Cars...Best music EVER !!!
Love the 80’s of my past. Still today I listen and Rock n Roll with them. ❤️
The Cars were absolutely the perfect group with two Great lead vocalist! I was at Walmart a few weeks ago and this song was on the radio, I was stunned
Was 16 and had this 8 track playing nonstop in my “Pinto” that summer of 79.
❤️
Me to Galaxy 500 1971 model first car 8-track tape also.
8-tracks, Pintos and AMC Gremlins......ahhhh, the ‘70’s.
Ive commented on this song so many times, but now i feel like its the Soundtrack of my life.😔💙😇💕
God I LOVED this band. I often think they were genuises OR the perfect combination of guys in one band, without one of them it would never be the same. They were such strong songwriters. Ben's death really touched me and of course Ric,I pray they're together jamming in the next world. Beautiful collage of images Cheers Becky!
You have excellent taste in music! I love the Cars also.
I have two words to describe the Cars…….grossly underrated!
👏👏👌👌👌🤞🤞🇷🇺🇷🇺
Such an eclectic group of musicians and liked them as soon as I heard their song on the radio for the first time back in the late 70’s - Let the Good Times Roll. Been a Cars fan ever since. RIP Ben and Ric.
And once in a moment. It all comes to you. As soon as you get it. You want something new. Wow!
Ben definitely underrated one of the best.
One of my favorites from these cats. Outstanding song and album. Take me back!!
The sound production is fabulous here, thank you ☺️
Thank you for being part of my youth I was 17 the summer of 79
Fantastic lyrics, over the top music. They rose up in popularity quickly, and didnt slow down.
Beer on tap, huge fire going, smoking a little cannabis, out in woods, with good friends and listening to this song"eight track", hurting no one, causing no mischief, just being Young.
