The Cars was on their game in this live performance. Never seen to many live performances that they was off their game. My all time favorite band, the Cars. I was a young man when they came out. Dear God what's happened to the time.❤
This is one of my favorite Cars songs, for one HUGE reason.... Elliot Easton. Not only does he do an amazing job on his lead guitar solos, but I also like his backing vocals. which admittedly come across clearer on the recorded version.
I fully agree! There's a kind of magic to this song, especially Elliot's solos. However, I prefer this version. th-cam.com/video/xTVzRfZEiAM/w-d-xo.html
One of the best most underrated Cars' songs. Heard this 1st time as a little kid on Fridays and thought it was spooky as hell. It sounded like nothing on the radio at the time. That uneven bass line, Greg Hawke's haunting keyboards, Elliot Easton's guitar echo, it's a brilliant song.
I agree, this song would come on radio at closing time and give mystery to the night. I was 17 and the echos and curious keys even came through the cheap radio.
Yeah, the fact the drums and bass are in different time signatures to the rest of the band make it feel so odd and quirky, hence that uneven feeling, it works so well it’s genius
Each member was awesome in their own right. I saw them back in 1980. They sounded amazing live. The concert blew me away. Fast forward to 2021. I’m 66 and still rockin to The Cars. RIP Ric and Ben. I know the heavens are rockin tonight😊
When the Cars were playing clubs in Boston, they knew the fan favorites. They took all of the fan favorites and put them on the first album. The result was an album that stood the test of time with classic hits.
The Cars. We grew up and old with all 5 of you. Thanks Ric, Ben, David, Greg,, Elliott. Immortal forever on film and recordings; for future generations to come. These 5 combined made the whole band and music exactly what it was and still remains. These guys were it.
We were talking about the Cars at a invitational blues jam in Dallas and when Eliot's was mentioned everyone couldn't say enough good things about his playing. There were some bona-fide world class Guitarist in that conversation. I always liked how well thought out all of Elliot's guitar work was in the studio, and how it fit so well, Eliot could go out and give you a note for note and still blow you away.
A few years ago I would have agreed they were underrated, but nowadays i see a lot more people giving props to the Cars and especially EE. At this point only a square doesn't like 'em!
If there is the “perfect” performance then this is it. Every instrument played to perfection and so distinct in this their best Live performance of any of their songs. It is heaven .. You guys were the best Ever ..
I couldn't stand them when they first came out, CSN & Y, Led Zeppelin, Stones, were more my taste. Was having lunch with co workers one day when one played You've Got Just What I Needed on the juke box. I said "who's that", she snapped "The Car's". I was hooked from then on. Got every album they had made and anxiously waited for each new one and played them for hours on end. All 5 of them fascinated me and each had their own talents. I was shocked & ecstatic when my boyfriend at the time bought us tickets to their concert at Boston Garden - he was lt's say frugal and they were $10.. The audience was mesmerized - no one moved or made a sound, ecep clapping. People used to get a kick out of my answer when asked what my favorite bands were "Led Zepplin, CSN & Y, Alman Brother's, Dylan, Steely Dan and The Cars" .
I kid you not. That's the first song I heard from them when down in Florida on vacation. It played in a little shop of souvenirs, and I hit my brakes to listen to it. I liked every album, but my favorite is Heartbeat City. Every song just rocks. Wish I went to Live Aid to watch them. But saw them on TV. Tom Petty, the Cars. Those 80s bands sounded so good. I would go back to the 80s in a heartbeat.
Steely Dan and the Cars particularly belong together for the nerdy detached aesthetic and performance work ethic (or lack thereof) … they were both preeminently studio bands, turning out endless meticulously crafted , obliquely worded hit songs with unimpeachable musicianship , and I love them for it🎉
Elliot's longest and best known guitar solo.. But even better for me were those three haunting chords he chose which defined that era, its music, and inspired our lives.
What can you say, greatest song of all time and this arguably the best Version of it. It’s so tight. EE simply amazing and Ric sounds so good. They were the band of my youth !!!
I remember hearing that. At that time bands were dressing up like idiots and using fireworks and stupid shit like that . The Cars were "just" a tight , super talented band that played incredible pop songs that live on over 40 years later.
@@joeymaterese8095 Not to take anything away from Elliott, but they were all extremely talented musicians individually. Put them together in The Cars = whole new level. Pure Gold in my books.

I always thought this was the gem off Panorama. That solo by Elliot was ripping. You literally cannot get the tune out of your head once it gets in there. One of the few Cars songs you can really hear the bass come through. Panorama Ben is the cutest Ben ❤
The Cars .Hall Of Fame 2018. I intend on attending to see two of my favorite bands go in the hall- The Moody Blues and The Cars. My other favorites are already in- Cat Stevens and Steely Dan. Of course The Beatles are THE BEST band ever!

Yep. Almost a quarter of a century after you left us Orr, were all still here....watching. sing along. Listening with great respect and joy.
Oh laurel ...i am crying ..perfect words ..about Ben
What's so cool about the Cars you can hear every instrument clearly.
In other words they understood their sonic space and crafted their songs accordingly. 😊
So awesome, God I miss this era.

Blend of New Wave and Rock perfectly, RIP Ben and Rick
Saw the Cars in 1980 and the chords Easton played on this song rung in my ears for hours after the concert. I wasn’t even close to the stage either.

Agreed ! When I watch him for some reason sometimes I also think of the late Steve Clark w/Def Leppard.
