About this concert: "vrienden van amstel live"(Friends of Amstel live) is a concert that celebrates music as a whole. A lot of Dutch artists collaborate to make an amazing celebration. It is held almost every year.
It also celebrates friendship in any form.
And they will do covers of each other and of great songs, and artist that normal don’t play together are now also together

This was in Ahoy, Rotterdam. The same hall were the Eurovision Song Contest of this year was organized.
This is a kind of Beste zangers, but much bigger. In 2020 about 80% of the performances were collabs. All types of music are performed.
These two bands are very good friends. Every arts wants to be there. As Kensington heard that Di-rect was not invited they came with the plan to do this. So they told the organisation to invite Di-rect too to do this. I think this shows the friendship of these two bands.
This performance had the dutch name Heldenblok. This means: 'this part of the show is a tribute to our musical hero's.
Dutch people loves live performances in concerts.

It's like the Beste Zangers, you share your music with your colleagues and makes it better. Both groups have so much great songs, like Kensington with Sorry or Direct with Soldier on. Live concerts by Kensington are legend.

These were 2 full bands playing together in perfect sync. I can't say too much about Di-Rect, but I have seen Kensington live 4 times and they are AWESOME.
Go see Di-rect, it's worth it.
An oldie from 2000....The band Krezip with the song i would stay, live on pinkpop a festival. They were very very young when they made that music.
The central podium in the middle of the crowd is not just a podium, it's surrounded by a circular bar. The main sponsor is a beer brewer, after all.
And people of all ages enjoying it side by side.. yeah that is a good vibe
Next: Kensington with St.Helena (Live Amsterdam Johan Cruijff Arena)....this will blow your mind......!!!...enjoy...!!
we in the Netherlands are blessed with so many concerts week in week out
its a beerbrand that organizes this concert each year: mixed artists from different genres. Sometimes tickets are soldout before the lineup is even fully anounced.
It's so cool that you do these Dutch shows
For me a Dutchy that is a normal way to have a concert and to react to music
This event is every year in januari.. with different dutch artists, all collaborate together, big party, I've been there twice now.. it really is like that.. everyone is just enjoying, singing and dancing these are the best evenings of the year 👌🏼

Theres a lot more good stuff from these anual concerts but some of it is in Dutch. I do feel however you will get the energy from the collaborations of artists on there.

De Vrienden van Amstel is a music event in the Netherlands in which all kinds of different music styles come together with surprising collaborations between artists and spectacular sets with special effects.

I couldn't make it to this show but I've been to many Vrienden van Amstel shows( it is an anual event) and to many, many concerts.The vibe is always like this. Some examples that I remember: Melissa Etheridge once stopped a show to go get a recorder to record the crowd "'cos nobody is going to believe me back home without proof"
At a open air Bon Jovi concert. It had been raining cats and dogs ALL day. 50.000 soaking wet fans. Not a soul left. Started singing along every song as soon as we recognised the first notes. Jon Bongiovi "Hé you guys, did you know you have paid ME to come sing for YOU?" Their latest sinlge was out for just one week. They thought we wouldn't know the lyrics 'cos in other countrys they didn't... HA! Wrong! I will néver forget Jon and Ritchies faces when we all started to sing the song immediatly! Their jaws really dropped. So many artist/bands have said it: the Dutch audience is not like any other audience. Prince never wanted to stop playing when he gave a concert here. (But at some point off course he had to) He would usually go to some club in city centre and continue playing...
2x times I went to Patrick Bruel....and he always ended up adding covers as he didnt want to stop playing. At Tivoli we just kept on chanting Encore Encore...and he indeed kept on going until he got tired 🤣 and started sitting on the piano and said aren't you guys tired don't you want to go home and we started chanting again and he ended with another song. I believe we got 45 minutes extra 🤘👍

I was there. We go every year with lots of friends and our parents. This was one of the best thing I have seen at all those years of Vrienden van Amstel. And the mix of "older" and younger visitors makes it great. Also no fights just one big party.

Di-rect is a pop-rock band from the 90's (watch/listen their song Free)
Kensington is newer and more of a modern day singer/songwriter band.

This was the highlight of 2020 before the lockdown. The concert was a party like you never find outside of vriende van amstel.

Kensington and Direct are the best two bands we have overhere. Every year there is a collab of the very best Dutch artist. The concert fills the largest stadium for ten night in a row. All artists want to be a part of that concert! They are like schoolkids on a fieldtrip, enjoying themselves.
For crowd energy on the VVA vrienden van amstel shows plse try "Malle babbe" by Rob de Nijs its 50% respect to the artist and 50% knowing the song. The man has a life long career in music with massive highs and lows but allways came trough. his show on here with a larger crowd then his own shows really is moving and shows his stature in Dutch music history
“Friends of Amstel Live” (subsided by Amstel/Heineken Beer) is regularly a yearly festival at Ahoy, Rotterdam the Netherlands. (same location where last month Eurovision Song Contest was held and you watched Davina Michelle live performances “The Power of Water” (Sweet Water).

The yearly concerts from the Vrienden van Amstel Live (friends of the Amstel- (river aka beer) live) are known for the collaberation of bands / artist ... Always amazing (or a-mee-zing in dutch ,witch means sing-a-long)

Amstel live is held at the same venue as the Eurovision was done in 2021. Musicians love to join in. Chance to be together make great music and drink beer for some nights😂

Came back to watch this again, again ... Once in a while you find that really, really good reaction video (and while the concert is great, your reaction made it better ... for me at least), it's just a joy watching as if I'm watching it for the first time myself, again, and when the person reacting is fully into the experience. Ohhh di-rect is amazing!! (Kensington aswell) But im a big Marcel (di-rect) Fan. There is alot of good suggestions in the comments, but they have some amazing (unkown) covers. Just typ in di-rect giel or di-rect cover(Giel is a radio-dj and they did the covers in his morning show and he is also the interviewer at the end!) and you will find them on youtube. I will name a few amazing ones: Kensington also did an amazing cover on the same radio station the coldplay song "god put a smile upon your face'. I love those songs!

As a Dutch I can say that this are the 2 best singers of Holland. Unfortunately the singer of Kensington stopped 😢 but they make great music. Di-rect is still on it ❤ and they make so many good songs. Check it out! Because they deserve it.

You said it correctly when you mentioned there is so much talent outside of the U.S. The Netherlands seems to have a huge number of super talents for such a small sized country. My all-time favorite singers are Nick & Simon from The Netherlands. They are known as Europe's Answer to Simon & Garfunkel and are masters of harmony. Besides writing their own mega-hits, they also do great covers of some of the greats in the pop genre. Last year they did a music documentary of Simon & Garfunkel. Awesome covers. This year they did a music documentary of ABBA. Awesome covers again. Members of ABBA actually sing with them in some of the videos. One of my favorites is their hit song "Vallende Sterren" (Falling Stars) sung during their Symphonic en Rosso concert in 2011. Sending the link here for you. Direct does do online concerts. Everybody (yes, even you) can buy tickets to see those shows. I hope they do one more so you can see they are amazeballs in their own line of music.
