- Recipe here: www.joyofbaking... Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Homemade Apple Sauce. Applesauce can easily be made at home. Although we sometimes forget that, we shouldn't as homemade applesauce has such great flavor that cannot be easily found in commercial brands. All you need are some tasty apples, a saucepan, and less than an hour of your time.
We welcome questions on our Facebook page: / joyofbaking
This just took me back to my childhood. We had a family friend named May. She was elderly and made the best homemade applesauce, AND she knew how much I loved it! She would make some, just to be nice.
It wasn’t until I was an adult, and she passed long ago that I realized she was having more fun watching me eat it, than I had eating it.
It’s strange how food can bring memories rushing back. She used a little cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg, and a lot of love.
I call those "Ratatouille" moments
@@tonydiablo6976 thats what i call them lol
I feel so sorry for you
I will use Mays recipe and use nutmeg thanks cloudy days
It can be stored about a week in the fridge.
saw your applesauce recipe yesterday. the wife has been feeling bad and as it is hard to find chunky with cinnamon so this morning i made your recipe chunky with cinnamon and it filled a quart mason jar the best part was the wife loved it . thanks for all your easy to follow recipes.
You are such a gentle, soft- spoken American. LOVE IT. Sending love from South Africa
You could. Lemon juice helps to keep the apples from turning brown and salt adds flavor.
One of the things I love about this video is that it's more like "general guidelines". Yes! Food can be customized to your personal taste!
She double dipped her spoon!!!! Joy is spreading the Joy!!!!!!! YUMMY!!!!!
I have a recipe that called for applesauce but had none in the house. Just happened to see your video on Making Applesauce. Good thing I have four different apple treez in the garden. I have never made applesauce before so thank you so much for the recipe. I made oatmeal apple raisin muffins with applesauce in the recipe and it was even more flavorful and delicious than canned Applesauce. I also use applesauce as a substitute for oil in a cake recipe so one more reason to make your own applesauce. Thanks for all the little tips you give in your videos.
Omg I looked up how to make applesauce to make the same exact thing you are making
Twenty years ago, I planted two Jonathan apple trees I got from Gurney's nursery as saplings. I have one of those old-fashioned apple peelers that you clamp on the kitchen table. It's fun to use! Thanks for the recipe!
Vanilla added to it is amazing! Stewing them with a vanillabean! AMAZING!
She explains so well good job
Oh my gosh... That color on you, I love it!
Bailey Gregg Aww that’s nice
Y
I like it softer
With the recent events in the world it’s nice to be versatile and the shelves of stores being cleared I never knew how to do this now I do ....thank you!!!!
Not only babies love apple sauce, after trying your recipe , my husband and I also like it very much ! Thanks for sharing such a great recipe
The local government is giving us bags and bags of apples for quarantine food distribution.... thats why Im here. i always loved applesauce anyway so thank you!!
SAME lol I only have a blender and a pot hopefully it will taste the same
What state do you live in I live in New York State a state extremely high in Apple harvest and they haven't even given me a apple peel
Wow
So lucky
First world problem
Same here. A friend brings me bags and bags of apples and other produce and this is what I'm doing with the apples !
I steam the apples (Granny Smith) in a vegetable steamer (with skin) for about 40 minutes and throw them in the Vitamix with 2 tbs of Splenda, 1tsp cinnamon, 2tbs lemon juice. I tried brown sugar on my first batch and didn't care for it. Best applesauce ever, and VERY smooth! A normal blender would probably be almost as good, but not as smooth probably.
I love garden apples. My girlfriend has 3 different apple trees in her garden, and neither tastes like any store bought apple I ever had.
One has kind of a honey aftertaste, one is really sour, tastes almost like sour apple candy and one is deep red, partly also on the inside and it tastes very sweet, a bit like apple tea. I'm making apple sauce with them today :)
Sounds nice.

Just followed the recipe now and thank you so much. Easy peasy and fantastic taste. I used 3 Fuji and 3 Granny Smith apples.
I always come back to this video when I want to make apple sauce. Well explained and realistic. Thank you!
That apple sauce looks so good
I like how you explained why you do each step, it helped me scales down the recipe for just the two apples in my fridge
I use the microwave when I just have a couple of apples. Quickly made and less washing up!
That's it, Miss. I'm subscribing. You can't make apple sauce that looks so good and not expect me to subscribe.
Your recipes are true and never failed me
Many tks Stephanie.....thorough cook😄🤗🙋
Nice video. Here in the Netherlands we eat a lot of applesauce (appelmoes). It is used a lot to mask vegetables for the kids. Almost always, cinamon is added. Most used apple here is Belle de Boskoop, especially when the sauce must be chunky. Some people use honey for sweetening.
Well done ...we often use this sauce with Meats....your channel is great....thanks
Hi i just made your apple sauce recipe and it was good. I am going to use this sauce for the apple sauce bread that you have. Thank you
Thank you lady Stephanie, this is perfect as we don't find applesauce in my country so I make large patch and freeze it
How do you freeze it if i may ask
Irma freezer
@@IrmaU94 Flat in a freezer ziplock bag.
@@2write2sing2dance thats a good idea. I found that tupperware left too much room for ice crystals to form. It came out watery. Ill try the ziplock bag
Irma Yes! Ziplock bags are great for freezing soups and sauces 🤓
We FINALLY got to see you actually eat your food. About time. ;-)
I used unripe apples and it turned out great. Thank you.
I literally just make this but with water for my dad who recently had cancer surgery. Liquid only diet. He is going to love this. Thank you!!
Ahhhhhhhh (relaxed one not the screaming off your head one) your voice is so relaxing
I love making applesauce! I add a stick of cinnamon to mine and the flavour is lovely! I made this to then make an applesauce cake. Home baking is wonderful, thank you for your video!

+That sounds like a good idea using a slow cooker.Jeannie Houghton
+Joy of Baking what kind of knife are u using I like it? I'm gonna give this a try also with my 8 months. Thanks!
nice and informative video on how to make applesauce, going to try it now, thank you
You could add it, if you like.
Hi, I've been using your recipes for so long omg ❤️ but with this recipe I change a bit, not the apple sauce but I use the skin and pits to make jelly or jam, apple has a lot of pectin and I really didn't want to waste nothing. I put everything in a pan with water and let it cook, then I discard the pots and skins and keep the clear water (use a filter to separate them, you want that to be clear, no bits, i measure the liquid and add sugar, I use a cup and so for 1 cup of liquid you add 2 measures of sugar (brown sugar looks best imo), so if I need I use a bit of that apple water in the sauce before adding the sugar. I don't add anything to the jelly, just sugar and apple water.
But I wanted to thank you for all this years of good recipes and precise measures that consider grams 😍😘
It is a Caso induction burner.
It sounds like you may have been cooking the apples at too high of a heat. It really doesn't matter whether you are using gas or electric, just have the apples cooking at a simmer. As I say in the headnote "to prevent the apples from sticking to the saucepan as they cook, add enough unsweetened apple juice, cider, or water to cover the bottom of the saucepan. (Add more liquid during cooking if necessary.)"
great video, the apple sauce looks really good
Thank you I’m gonna try the recipe out today
i have quite enjoyed you little quick easy tutorial. i will start visiting your channel every now and then for more recipes! that applesauce looks good.

Stephanie, your recipes are very nice and useful. Thank you for your videos! I love your channel!
Nice video, I personally enjoyed the alternative choices to it.
Makes me really want to make some sauce!
really awesome i love it
thanks and you know that im your biggest fan your the best chef in the world
Your really awesome
much love and respect, a simple but effective recipe. ps I make your oat cookies regularly
Thanks for the cooking method this is what I need to know how to make applesauce. I have plenty of apples in my garden. I love doing a value added by making jam, pickles or sauce instead of throwing it away. I don't like wasting the food.
I made this last night. I will never buy store bought applesauce again! I like how you instructed to add the sugar and spices afterwards, according to taste. Other recipes have you pour in the sugar before, which can lead to an overly sweet dish.
My grandmother used to make apple sauce. She'd make 2 batches at once. The first would be chopped finely and cooked down completely smooth. The second would have really large chunks and barely cooked down at all. Then she'd mix the two together and add a bunch of sugar and cinnamon so that it was super sweet. It was never meant to be healthy lol, just a great dessert. Going to be making the same today!
i made this and it was so good i also added apple pie spice yummy
I love your channel so much! 😍😆😆
Thank you for this maam!
Now i can made this at home and eat it so i can heal my self from diarrhea😊😊😃
Thankyou very much for sharing this recipe. Can it be used as an alternative of eggs in baking ?
I’ve heard it may work in some recipes but for most recipes the answer is no it’s not a good substitute.
your my favorite cook. I love trying all the things you made with my family :-)
This recipe is so beneficial. Thank you!
Looks so good can't wait to try it
I think I'm going to make this tom... thx. for the great recipes, they r delicious!!! Keep Posting!!! :)
Thank you, Stephanie and Joy of Cooking/Baking. My favorite go to 🥰
Luckily, we have a surplus of apples and besides feeding the birds, applesauce is perfect for the quantity!
Cool came out good
This was QUITE helpful, Stephanie! Thank you very much for sharing with us!! Keep doing great things, and keep smiling!
Thank you for showing how to make homemade apple sauce. I have always wanted to know how to make it.
Thanks steph!
very good teacher:)
Thanks
I tried making this apple sauce it is really good it’s so easy to make and it taste really good
Hi. Love your videos. Suggestion: Why not use a potato peeler to make it a bit easier? Regards.
You could do that.
Hello I like looking at you cooking show because I like cook an thank you❤ how long the apple sas can keep I mean for 2 month ❤
The ceramic knives are made by Kyocera.
I'm only 3 minuets into this video and I love it (:
I lost weight and curbed my appetite by just adding something to apple sauce. I eat anything I want. I just get full sooner naturally.
I really love apple sauce. I have at least 2 cups daily.
Thank you..very helpful. i'll try it later
Thank you so much for all that you do
Thank you, I made it and it worked :)
What did you do with the brown sugar?
Duh, I didn't wait long enough. Sorry
7:41 🙂 She didn’t end up using the sugar at all. (Playback 1.25 speed is better)
I like the type of apple sauce that you buy in the shop and that apple sauce product with the red something idk what the company is called but I like that type
I have always made my own applesauce. I never add sugar and always add cinnamon while it's cooking.
It's so easy and economical.
My freezer gave up the ghost a few days ago so, now I have tons of thawed applesauce! Do you know if cold canning applesauce works? My thought was to pack the cold applesauce in cold jars, placing them in a cold water bath. Bring to a boil, and boil for 20 minutes or so. What do you think? Will that work? Or maybe it'd be better to recook the applesauce and put in hot jars, and hot water bath. I could really use some good advice asap. Thank you. I love your vids!
Showed this to my apple....
Now it’s applesauce
Omg this needs more attention
Why would you show this to your apple? Poor thing must have cried all day!
😂😂😂😂Lol
I am making this sauce! My husband loves apple sauce
What a beautiful pot
I needed to do something with the apples in my fruit basket for a few weeks. I hate waste and since the skin was a little wrinkled, but the apple was fine I made applesauce for the first time. Lol
Mine taste better than it looks. 😂
I cooked the apples with brown sugar and cinnamon, following a Google recipe and it looks brown. Still taste good though.
Next time I will try your recipe.
It so hot here, I'm wanting to turn the apple sauce into a slushy for the kids and myself to cool off.
Thank you 😊
For the applesauce, do I need to squeeze in lemon juice to prevent browning?
I don’t find that I need any lemon juice, but you could add some.
@@joyofbaking I am having problems with my applesauce turning brown while cooking in the crockpot. As I am processing the apples I place them in a bowl with water and citric acid or lemon juice. The apples look great. Once in the crockpot they start out fine. After a while they start turning brown. Any ideas on how to prevent browning while cooking???
Stephanie, would you have a recipe for a simple Carrot jam?
Thank you for your information and time to make this video
Id like to ask , does the apple cider vinegar help in preserving the apple sauce more or its simply just for adding moisture to the apples?
+Dina Abu Qura I like to add apple juice which is just for added flavor.
Dina Abu Qura
FYI! Soak your apples, pears etc. in a big bowl of heavy salt water, & rinse before you are ready to use them. It works better than lemon juice, fruit fresh or anything else
:) Your fruit will stay so white!!!
for those concerned with nutrition, would it be advisable to core the apples, blend or food process them, and then just lightly warm them for a short time? Or even skip the warming altogether, as heat kills nutrients.
not at all. this would be a problem if the water used to make the sauce was gone to waste. the water-soluble ingredients/recipes don't have that issue. I mean, people make homemade vegetable stock by (usually) freezing the liquid it formed after letting the veggies cooking in the water for hours and the veggies are the one that "go to waste" in that sense, since all its nutrients went to the stock.
I am going to use my Miele steam oven for this. I am making a healthy carrot cake and it contains apple sauce . Should you blend it to be smooth for the cake ?
It would depend on the recipe. If you’re not sure, then I would contact the writer of the recipe.
I am so using this today
Thank You
No Problem
What type of knives do you use? Like, what brand is your knives?
Thank you 😍 I also recommend to add a little bit of rosewater, it'll taste like heaven 😍
Hi. I'm Hispanic and we don't use to eat apple sauce that much. Maybe this is a dumb question but, May I store apple sauce in Mason jars? I would like to make a big batch but I'm not sure how long they last in room temperature . Thank you.
May I ask, what kind of knife were you using in this video?
Can I use frozen apples
Too make this lovely Apple sauce.
You're interesting to watch. Informative! And just comfortable. Thanks :)
