Very good analysis and commentary here was an interesting watch. Like you said in the video they did have some good shape and width available but maybe poor decision making was the downfall of this particular period of possession rather than poor patterns and shape?

Very insightful & educatedly logical analysis reasoning why the Wallabies really needs to adapt AB ball tactics.
No wonder they are not any competition to Enzed these days

I think you missed the fact that the Irish back then were relying on a drift defence. The pattern of attackers having a better line was the same for any team playing against them and in your clip it was working for them (in that phase of play) They were really found out in the Argentina game at the last WC using it though, and I believe earlier in that match V NZ
I think the noticable thing about the AB was that they found shape quickly, almost like a 7s team.

So the Wallabies were tight and unstructured, yet they went from their 10-meter line to inside the Wales 22 before going out to touch about 10 meters from the try line. And New Zealand went from the Ireland 10-meter line to the 22 for a gain of about 20 meters before the Irish knock (nearly for a breakaway) at 2 1/2 minutes. But this is a 6 1/2 minute video. Right? So Australia had possession for 4 minutes playing tight ball, gaining about 50 meters (2 1/2 times as much field gained as New Zealand in this clip) and ... you're saying there's something wrong with that? If this was so easy for the Welsh to defend, how did they lose 50 meters in field position and not force a turnover in over 4 minutes??? -- DISCLAIMER, I AM A FAN OF RUGBY, I ACTUALLY LIKE NEW ZEALAND MORE, BUT MY TEAM PLAYS A LOT OF TIGHT/FORWARD BALL TO RETAIN POSSESSION AND WORK IT OUT TO THE BACKS ONCE IN A WHILE.

+Delton Lowery if results dictated play all anyone would need is video of a crushing victory and try to replicate each movement. There are so many variables that talking about small outcomes isn't very useful. It makes more sense to explain why you think the tight/unstructured play is better, either in the short or long term.

+JP Rough I thought I did say why I thought tight forward ball worked: It's effective and gains meters while maintaining possession for more phases.

I totally agree with you on the tactic to keep it in the forwards as long as you keep going over the gain line. That’s what creates the space for the backs. This is an unfair comparison of the sides. Two clips from any game can make one side look tremendous and the other look inept if you pick the clips that suit your view. However the All Blacks are consistently the best attacking and winning team overall against any side. Just my opinion mate from a Welsh point of view, regards.

When did the wallabies become soooo bad??....They used (Past tense) to be my fave team once back when Stephen Larkam was the flyhalf. Nowadays the Australian Franchise teams in the Super Rugby Comp are just there to make up the numbers not posing any kinda threat.
P.s And they are bloody boring to watch.
    Well thats my own opinion.

not really fair to compare the two teams structures, based on both teams one passage of play in one game.
u would need a variety of examples, from a number of games to make a fair and accurate assessment.
I do think the result would be the same, just saying that the evidence on hand in the video is not enough to make a determination as to who has the better structure.

Well sure it was on one game but it was through a number of phases. Sure it's not the same team as it is now but I reckon it was a fair analysis at the time.
