Is anyone else sick of the rolling maul/lineout drive. To me it's a relic from the past that is stifling creativity in the game. The rules about how you are allowed to defend a maul mean that most defending teams won't contest the lineout so the attacking team is guaranteed possession and doesn't even have to throw straight. If you can't get forward momentum you can just pass to the backs. If you do get a roll on you're likely to get a penalty advantage from a defender joining the maul the wrong way, if the maul goes to ground you're likely to get a penalty or a penalty try and a yellow card and otherwise you score the try... through legalised obstruction.
Really classy and accurate performance by the AB XV. They cut Munster to pieces with nearly every opportunity they were given. Not bad for a team that has been slapped together with duct tape only a week ago with hardly any time together. Meanwhile Munster were courageous but clearly outmatched in all areas as shown by the variation and quantity of the AB XV's tries. McCarthy was really dangerous on the wing. They did well to slow down the ruck, sometimes from offside positions or lying over the ball by their pack, which was disappointing to see happen for the entire game. They got a fair few ref decisions go their way too as he was influenced by the home crowd far too often.
What game were the commentators watching? The munster player literally crawled over the line and the commentators are going on about the ball being realised and picked back up none of which happened. Neither was that ball knocked on leading up to the Kirifi try.
