As a Singaporean, i still remember the BO3 controversy. Our country was on highest alert due to increasing terrorism worldwide and Singapore was one of those targets. I remember the terrorist was targeting Marina Bay or MBS from Batam, Indonesia around that time. So yeah bad timing Activision.

THQ's balloon stunt actually cost a life, when a sailor shipwrecked on a nearby waterbody and they couldn't sent out an SAR-helicopter because of the balloons. The sailor died.
You’d think someone would know about the same thing happening in New York in the 90’s but on a much bigger scale and woulda said “maybe this isn’t such a good idea?”
I never thought about negative ads but I’m pretty sure if a random dude went out on stage and said “Hey guys, the ps6 is going to be like the ps5 but you know, a little better. It’s a little faster, holds more data’s, games are a little more detailed, and it has a faster processor”, would probably be a great ad for many gamers these days.
What got me about the Xbox One reveal was the Xbox powers-that-be's reaction to all the negativity with all their rules and restrictions was pretty much, "What, people aren't OK with this?" 🙄
My favorite was Don saying if you can't always be online we have a product for you called the 360. Then the submarine comparison. All with a straight face. Talk about being out of touch with your consumers. Glad his ass got the boot.
I actually did a media analysis presentation in my final year of college about the PS Vita advertisement. I got full marks and took little effort because there was just SO MUCH to talk about! 😂😂😂

Not a true Marketing fail (not at the level of the one in the list) but the reveal of Diablo: Immortal at the Blizzcon should had deserved a mention. "Is this some kind of out of season april fool joke?"
Not really. Blizzard made a game for mobile and some fat neckbeard basement dweller got made they didn’t made one for PC when its clear that those have separate teams.

So, it is clear that Blizzard missed the mark This is not what people wanted, or at least what that audience wanted, and I didn't saw that many fat neckbeard there Blizzard can develop the fuck they want, but it's the public that decides what he wants to play. Diablo Immortal was clearly a desperate way to market themselves in China/East Asia, where Mobile gaming is a true thing, but they presented it to the wrong audience, therefore it is a marketing fail. Period.

It's not rocket science that those are 2 different teams yet they acted like little bitches because they did not get what they want. The presentation was great, the game looked great. However I agree that Blizzard should have known that their fanbase is a shithole of angry nerds that stomps around when the world does not revolve around them. Also, if I remember right it's Blizzcon. They can announce whatever they wanted.
Think the issue is that they used an actual shop and dressed it up with the grotesque imagery, rather than doing something like a pop-up in an empty storefront.

PSP and PS Vita are a good idea, but Sony dropped the ball on things like this, wish we got a 3rd gen handheld device from Sony of the Ps4 and the Ps5 generations, especially for the VR stuff as well, so yeah
I would say the Sega Saturn marketing should’ve been on this list, it’s way worse than the Xbone reveal! Because lot of stores like Walmart and KB Toys refused to stock the Saturn, because Sega betrayed the retailers and it backfired on Sega in the long run!

I actually think the butcher shop "human" body parts thing is funny. At least they said up front that it was meat designed to look like human parts, instead of trying to convince people it was real. Hell, you can buy fake body parts for Halloween, so why is this so bad? I would've tried the different meats.
I actually remember that White PSP commercial. I was in Winnipeg, Manitoba and I was so hype for it once I heard about it. Then I seen that commercial while visiting a friend. I instantly seen the racial insensitivity in the commercial, and it killed my hype. But my friend I was visiting that day, didnt see any problem whatsoever. Neither did his parents when I tried explaining why we were arguing. I was no longer friends with him after that day lol.
So instead of trying to help them understand, you just gave up on being friends anymore? That seems productive. And pretty much on point with how people are today.

After arguing with one of my friends and his entire family for the entire day, on how the commercial was racially insensitive and possessed implied racial dominance and how that was potentially a dangerous mindset to be associated with such a popular company. Then also continuing to try to convince him from then on during our school years, because I ONLY TURNED 13 MIND YOU, from grade 7 to grade 8, that being racially insensitive is bad for people in general, especially in the city we were in. Given that I am native american, he was vietnamese and we were at a multicultural school where the minority was actually white people and the majority consisted of Asian, black and native american children. Ubisoft actually did those in real life? I wanted a Wii U back in the days, but I ended up getting a Dreamcast, PS4 with PSVITA... and then Nintendo Switch.

The marketing fail in that instance was that the game took 3 years to get done, and by the time it was released, it was so bad that John Romero had to eat his words.
Efootball 2022 had the worst Marketing Fail in my opinion (the fact that they didn't even try Makes it even worse) 🤷🏻. They killed of the PES Franchise and the game is the worst rated game in the History of Steam & other stores. The fansbase is Truly Shocked .

Okay, but who can remember the success of Battlefield 3 and then came the trailer for Hardline. You may have missed the gameplay footage back then but it was certainly laughable soldiers sinking into the ground and being able to walk through vehicles. XD Part 3 itself looked very nice so the contrast was huge.
@@ChaseMC215 Actually yes. Personally, I think many of those games are too similar. It's a bit like action movies, it has to get more and more extreme and the story and gameplay suffer. many people then stop touching the story and only play the online modes.

@@ChaseMC215 Actually yes. Personally, I think many of those games are too similar. It's a bit like action movies, it has to get more and more extreme and the story and gameplay suffer. many people then stop touching the story and only play the online modes.
