Ego is a double edged sword in a team sport. It can drive you to be better or can destroy the balance of the team

    • @complexityvn8969

Of course, big ego must have big skills to support its back.

@@complexityvn8969 I've always had this idea of "You are allowed to be somewhat arrogant, as long as your skills can back up your claims". Like you can't be cocky over something you're bad at, thats just delusional.
Even though i hate arrogant and egoistical players in sports, i also can't help but admire them when they can back it up. Throughout my school years, there was this pretty fucking annoying dude who was really arrogant and an asshole, but he could back up his annoying claims of arrogance and was a pretty skilled player in both basketball and soccer. I hated him but i would also always hate playing against him as he was much better than me

In a way, yes but when ego is paired with anger, and a certain drive, or when viewed in the right way, it can be used to MAKE something, a team made to use each other to win. A game without Ego is roleplay, a game about sticking to one role, no matter the cost, and a game with ego, is Chess, A game about using both you and your opponents "pieces" to win, and Ego clashes, not because they want to win, but because they want to be better

Keep your ego in check with humility and empathy. You can be the king and be arrogant selfish as long as you are genuine. Nobody likes fake. And it's worthless comparing to others, see how Isagi uses it. He only sees what he needs to improve. Constant growth is the throne ego sits on, and like a calm powerful king, sees his shortcomings and strengths. All great people must have *self reflection*

I don't think that's the point of blue lock. The atmospheric reason the facility literally have no audience in it is because ego doesn't care what bystanders say about you, at its purest, ego is about _what you say about you_ including the despair that comes from losing and all.
I think that's what "using ego correctly" means, if you're delusional, like insisting you're the best when it should be clear to you that you're not, that's not using it correctly. When you allow yourself feeling the setback and despair from failures, and allowing yourself to do something about it even when it involves the painful process of redefining yourself, that's how to use ego as demonstrated by blue lock.

Except Barou never stop calling himself the King and he was never penalized for it because it wasn't about changing yourself it was about winning. Barou's ideal is to feel like he's Royalty when he's on the field. If he can't have that he might as well be the loser even if passing the ball would win him the game.
Redefining yourself is what Isagi does best but you don't have to compare yourself to him. Chigiri's challenge is not to let fear of re-injury stop him from living his life and flying around the field. Rin's challenge is to invest himself and what he wants, and not in the relationship with his brother that ended a long time ago.

I feel like the whole thing can be summed up with this quote from Michael Jordan - "There is no I in team, but there is in win."
In other words, he does whatever it takes to win, whether it be playing as part of the team or blazing ahead scoring points one after another.
If your star player can't step up to the plate when it comes down to the wire, there's no way you're going to secure that win.
And honestly, I feel that this is exactly what Blue Lock is doing - forging a striker willing to do that, to do whatever it takes to win.
This is why the Blue Lock Eleven won against the Japan U-20 team - the entirery of the Eleven was composed of these types of players, who were willing to do whatever it took to win.

    • @fabioviti7384
      @fabioviti7384 ปีที่แล้ว

There is just a lil problem, for that everyone in blue lock has to play like a fucking muppet; every time there is a cool scene if someone knows even a little about football you'll see how characters that defend are simply stupid; he gets the bell trough your feets and is not in your area?; fucking shoulderbutt him and turn around, the goalkeepers who're not protagonists look like fucking chumps: IN A 1V1 THE GOALIE GETS OUT OF THE DOOR YOU CHUMPS!
simply, you can make football a sport about ego and playing alone, but you have to turn half the team into statue and half into literal gods.
(if everyone wants to talk about maradona and argentina 78; we do all remember that that worldcup was won because they paid the guys to ignore an OBVIOUS hand touch right?; we've seen it in this world final too, mpabbe couldn't carry his team)

I am *really* happy I found this video since you discuss the topic from multiple angles. Some videos I watched rubbed me the wrong way because they pushed the term "ego" or made it very specific or "targeted", which isn't bad necessarily, but it left me with so many counterarguments and questions that I felt the need to make a video of my own. I actually found this video when I was doing research for that very video but after watching this, I can drop the project and focus on my other ideas. I didn't really want to talk about Blue Lock in the first place but I felt obligated to because of the lost nuance. I'm very grateful. Subbed! :)

Blue Lock is not the first anime that expresses it. Food Wars - Shokugeki no Soma
Soma was arrogant, he was focused on his goal and didn't see that much whats around him. He never for a second thought about crashing dreams of others.
However, his arrogance gave him huge confidence, concentration and creativity all skills necessary to succeed.
Megumi was always nice to others. Trying very hard to not offend others. However all of that made her timid as a result she had too many doubts and extra thoughts. Because of that she had very low concentration, and stress made her fail many times. Over time she managed to develop her ego, so that she could survive in academy
Mayumi was basically same as Megumi. Except due to never developing her ego she completely went into shadow. She never managed to tell Soma her feelings for him, and he forgot about her.

Yeah i agree but these are character examples, not the narrative itself, you can say the same things about a loooot of other anime and manga too, but in blue lock it's the core theme and message of a show, plus it's not about who or what said it first, how does that even matter?

      @TaigaXsenpai ปีที่แล้ว

@@Thesenshin7 well its not said openly like in Blue Lock, but I think its presented
Neither Erina nor Soma are ever criticised for their ego, rather its respected and stated as necessary. Same with Aldini.
Same with Shinomiya who is arrogant to disgusting degree, as he abuses students and expells them for trivial reasons yet never gets criticised for it. Its presented that its ok for him to do this, as long as it lets him maintain his confidence.
When Megumi gets character development, presenting how she manages to develop her ego.

We might as well be talking about two different egos here. It's not like both of them have to exist at the same time. You don't need one part for the other. Your ego is you, so it's what you want it to be, no? Then create an ego that will help you, but not lead you. It's not about how large the ego is, it's about what that ego is. There's no true definition for ego because it's not a generalized thing. Everyone's ego is different, and there's no point in trying to give ego a generalized definition. It's simply what the person makes of it.

My goal was to be the best PERIOD.
I didn't realize, but my mom pointed out to me that if I wasn't gonna be the best be it soccer, skateboarding, baseball . That I would quit. It seemed silly at the moment. until I realized I DID THAT. And simular to isagi I was the best within my friends. There were a couple that were better then me. That didn't make me stop . It gave me octane to strive for better. So if there wasn't any ego within me saying " are you gonna let him beat you...nah son beat him'

Ego and Egoism are different things
The prior isnt a trait, while the ladder would be

Idk if Kanye and other real life modern day examples are good definitions of "great people" lmao
The negative promoted through the culture far outweighs the positive.
Going for the goal isnt bad in itself, but what you do with the goal.

i didn't say they were good people necessarily, i just think that their egoism sort of helped in making them who they are, whether that's bad or good, i agree with you

@@Thesenshin7 I know. Im not disagreeing with you, you created a very well made video with really interesting things to think and talk about.
I just like to share my perspective when the opportunity comes. I dont talk much otherwise.
I think you addressed everything about the subject in a way that in the end, would be beneficial. People need to talk about stuff to understand it all.
I appreciate your perspective very much. Always wanted to do things like this.

@@Thesenshin7 if anything, Im making a joke about how much of a crackhead Kanye is, and cause its kinda relevant rn
I dislike modern culture, and the affects things like rap music have on us all subconsciously.
      Monkey see, monkey do
