    When I was a student, me and a couple of mates once spent an evening with a toastie maker, trying out different fillings.
    Successes included :-
    Sherbet Dip (VERY tasty caramelised lemony deliciousness);
    Lasagne (really good, very filling);
    Banana and Peanut Butter (Not bad, bit cloying on the tongue);
    Banoffee Pie (from Asda. The Tesco one wasn't as nice).
    Smarties (crunchy chocolate. What's not to love?)
    Not so successful :-
    Snickers (sickly sweet, okay if you're into type 2 diabetes);
    Tomato soup (no. Just, no);
    Skittles (molten lava, avoid);
    Starburst (see above).
    There were others, the usual stuff like beans and cheese, nutella etc.

      From the viewers' perspective, at least, it always seems to be well worth it!
      Stuart's calm reactions to whatever hijinks you two get up two never fails to illicit a chuckle from me.
      I'd love to see what would happen if you tried putting unconventional ingredients into an oddball automated kitchen gadget like the ones you always seem to test (donut maker, pasta macine, etc).
      I'm sure Stuart would "love" the results.
      And by love, I mean he would likely cut all ties with you and move to some far off country with no internet.
      But it would be well worth it to see what would transpire :)
      Anyway, as always, love the videos.
      Cheers from the USA!

    If you use thick cut bread and make a jam sandwich, you could then dip it in batter and then toast it and you could have a type of doughnut. Brown bread jam sandwiches in a sandwich toaster are amazing, if you sprinkle caster sugar on straight after it comes out.

    ive got one of those microwave toastie makers , its the best thing ever invented , the old toasties come out soggy but this makes them crispy ,, the main reason its not coming out crispy on the one side is that you have to turn it over halfway through cooking , so rather than 5 minutes and leave it ,, after 2 and a half minutes flip it over and cook for another 2 and a half minutes

  • @Chriswsm
    @Chriswsm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have one of these micro sandwich toasters and I find if you turn them over halfway through the cooking time you get even colour on both sides.
    I will definitely try the curry approach but I must insist that you try corned beef, horseradish, diced shallots and emmental cheese. I make about a dozen at a time and freeze them uncooked. They are much easier to butter when frozen. Two-and-a-half minutes each side (900w) will defrost and cook them adequately and evenly. Amazing.

    Dipping the sandwich quickly in batter is an alternative to buttering the bread and does make for a nice toastie. Works a charm for making ones with runny fillings and you're just using a frying pan for the toastie phase.

      It's a myth (or rather, an understandable simplification) that you can't put metal in a microwave.
      The real rule is, don't put metal in a microwave unless it's metal that's _designed_ to go in a microwave.
      My microwave even has a metal stand that you're supposed to put the food on. Been using it for 20 years without incident.
