You have to turn the toastie maker over half way through to get an even colour on both sides. Mine is 3 mins on each side I think

Watching two grown men put a sandwich inside a sandwich and then microwave it inside some sort of Frankenstein toaster gadget is all I wanted from my Thursday evening, really.
And the crazy part is that it worked. AND it was really nice.

It's true. We only find dangerous things exciting.
When I was a student, me and a couple of mates once spent an evening with a toastie maker, trying out different fillings.
Successes included :-
Sherbet Dip (VERY tasty caramelised lemony deliciousness);
Lasagne (really good, very filling);
Banana and Peanut Butter (Not bad, bit cloying on the tongue);
Banoffee Pie (from Asda. The Tesco one wasn't as nice).
Smarties (crunchy chocolate. What's not to love?)
Not so successful :-
Snickers (sickly sweet, okay if you're into type 2 diabetes);
Tomato soup (no. Just, no);
Skittles (molten lava, avoid);
Starburst (see above).
There were others, the usual stuff like beans and cheese, nutella etc.
If I may ask, what are Smarties where you’re from? In the U.S. they’re little sweet and sour tablets.
Arie Heath they are little round colourful chocolate pieces, they are covered in like a thin sugary shell, should try get them they are nice
Maxwell Brown Sounds similar to M&Ms. I’ll look them up and maybe order some online.

2020: The Poundland sandwich in a toastie. Truly the pinnacle of technology.
Poor people in the Victorian era allegedly ate "toast sandwiches", a toasted piece of bread between two uncooked pieces of bread. That's what the Poundland sandwich sandiwch reminded me of!

Its actually pretty damn good. If you follow orinigal recipes, you salt and pepper the toast, slap bread round it, and dig in. Pure carbs, but tastes actually really good for what it is
It actually tastes quite nicely with enough salt and pepper and fresh toast, it's almost like fried chicken, but without the actual chicken flavour. Very recommended for those middle of the night empty fridge munchies.
This is a popular poverty food in America. Piece of buttered salted toast between bread. Like syrup sandwhiches

Fraser Pickle Pie , put a pie in the toastie, then call it a Wigan toastie, after the famous passion for a pie in a sandwich that the residents of Wigan like to eat as bar food.

@@La_sagne I mean, I'm yet to see a pie that could be my name stake? Also, not really, we mostly have fruit pies and meat pies, occasionally vegetable pies, but not everything. Am thinking more like chip shop chip pies or mac n cheese pies. Something off the hook and unusual

From the viewers' perspective, at least, it always seems to be well worth it!
Stuart's calm reactions to whatever hijinks you two get up two never fails to illicit a chuckle from me.
I'd love to see what would happen if you tried putting unconventional ingredients into an oddball automated kitchen gadget like the ones you always seem to test (donut maker, pasta macine, etc).
I'm sure Stuart would "love" the results.
And by love, I mean he would likely cut all ties with you and move to some far off country with no internet.
But it would be well worth it to see what would transpire :)
Anyway, as always, love the videos.

Considering Stuart pulled a full-size JAMMA arcade board from his old oven (he genuinely forgot about it), finding a hand in his microwave is standard stuff. Video is amazing
At the mention of 'Curry In A Toastie', I was struck by the thought that this was the sort of thing that would be featured on the late 80's after-club cooking show, 'Get Stuffed'. Brilliant.
I wanted to see them use naan bread for it...

Bought one of these after watching your gadget testing video. You're supposed to turn it over half way through cooking though so that could be why your toasting seems a bit uneven. Love it! 😀x
Such a let down, doesn't ship to the US and US amazon doesn't have the microwave one available, just the 2 sandwich countertop style.

Oh no! That's such a shame. I hope they start shipping to the US for you. It's a fantastic gadget. They actually do a couple of different products. Still to try them though. x
But there is there not even a similar product available in the US even though the same company has the microwave egg cookers available here
I like the duality of these two, Barry would invite Ashen for a nice food episode while Ashen would invite Barry for a buffet of intercontinental expired treats.
While I do enjoy Ashens' angry sense of humor when he eats something disgusting, I also really like it when he finds a food he likes. It might be because I want the guy who has genuinely entertained me a lot over the years to have nice things happen to him. The world I live in makes it feel like that's a strange concept.

Used to make macaroni cheese toasties for breakfast back in the 90s when I was in college, they were always bomb.

@@archerymidnight3422 Thing is, I've checked the new model, and it has a more ridged design instead of the triangular two-portion design. Which is a little disappointing, but I'll probably just bite the bullet.
Oh yeah, definitely! I used to make them on my George Foreman and they turn out really well :D Better than buying a single purpose device to be honest
So with that last one, you essentially tapped into the same idea as a Toast Sandwich. Crunchy Bread+Soft Bread= *Insanely good texture.*
I bought one of those microwave toastie thingies, based on your old Pre production video Barry. It’s great but often I want 2, that’s the only advantage a normal Breville has over it. Couple of slices of Gouda, spoonful of beans, you can’t beat it.
Andy Sutcliffe it quite simple, make one and whilst consuming that one, have the other one in. I do that with Cheese on Toast, it’s always hot then too

A “ready meal” lasagne would be ok, the mince in there is cooked, it just needs reheating. So just use a chilled lasagne.

Stuart finally gets to eat something that's not out of date and/or bought for a quid.
Curry toasties are one of my favourite foods. If I ever have leftover curry, I slap it in a toastie. SO GOOD!
On a side note, Ashens has a really nice Conservatory.

My local Indian takeaway does this it's called a king samosa. They fill a giant naan bread with curry. It is immense.

Could have been 2 blokes hanging out at one of their flats or whatever, but it was a larger production filmed at a shared studio space. They then tried to move it to be more of a podcast but that didn't seem to take hold as well =/

LOVE that toastie!!! I got mine through the indiegogo you promoted years ago. Sadly they don’t really have it in the states. So any time I show it off to friends & family & coworkers they can’t buy it.
we bought a couple of these after your reviews and our toastie consumption has gone through the roof. they work a treat. personal favourite, emmenthal, mozzarella, ham/salami, and red pesto.

Thanks I will have to try these. I still have my moms sandwich maker from the early 90's. I still make pizza Toasties to go back in time. I go camping with some pie irons too, to make toasties. Ton's of memories.

@@Clay3613 give it up, ok we live in different place, we all have different names for things, such as bread buns, some call them bap, some say buns and i'm sure other places have other names. to me it's a toastie as you toast it, to you it's a melt, even though you can't melt curry
My office kitchen has an old-style breville toastie maker in it and I will often grab a couple of pre-made sandwiches on my way to work and throw them in for a cheap, tasty lunch.

I bought the sandwich and potato cookers after Barry reviewed them, great products, best grilled cheese at 3am ever!
I was a backer for the Mico products. I have the whole set and I love the toastie the most but the mico potato is pretty dang great too.
Barry you have to turn it halfway so you get it brown on both sides. Read the manual my man ;) @Berry Lewis

It's a myth (or rather, an understandable simplification) that you can't put metal in a microwave.
The real rule is, don't put metal in a microwave unless it's metal that's _designed_ to go in a microwave.
My microwave even has a metal stand that you're supposed to put the food on. Been using it for 20 years without incident.
@@epiendless1128 Just read up on this and it appears that thin smooth metal is fine. But to much metal or metal with odd shapes causes sparking which can lead to fires.
The later I have seen with my own eyes when I left a spoon in porrage as a kid.
@@freedomofmotion also helps that the rubber surrounding the metal acts as a ground not allowing electrons to store up

Ahh I used to have Tesco Kormas, could never finish them as a kid so spooned out the curry sauce and rise onto buttery toast in the morning for brunch 😂 would have loved to try the toastie action
A nacho toastie used to be my go-to! Nachoes, cheddar and salsa. Yum!
