Hi Michele. That was an ‘impressive’ episode. Not only can you visualise the finished product in a pile of ‘scrap metal’ you proceed to fabricate beautiful parts as if by magic. Oh so inspirational. Looking forward to the next instalment. 👏👏👍😀

    Hi Michel!
Pure mechanics of other times there!!
I love to see the Shaper (almost unobtainable here in Italy, especially for the size like yours) and the setup of your Deckel to cut the gears!
    Really super heavy and rigid!
Months ago I had thought of making a rack for a friend and then a video, but it is quite difficult with a vertical milling machine like mine to cut them, I had thought of shaping an end mill with the shape of a tooth profile but then I gave up !
I envy you so much now because you did it!!
    Well done!!
    A super project!!
    See you soon!
    Ciao, Alberto

Nice job on the pinion and rack teeth. Like you, I've found that parting or form tool cuts on my little shaper are a recipe for chatter. The only solution I've found is to clamp the parts directly to the table for maximum rigidity, no overhang past the jaws as there is with a vice. Also keeping my tool bit as short as possible.

Hey Rusti. The last time I watched you, I remembered you had your car in your shop. Two items friend, first I did buy a hand bandsaw, like you have. Got a rid of that blade handle. I used a 6mm hex nut instead. A company called DAKE, got hired. But they were known for making Arbor Press units. We only had so far, had one bad winter snow storm. Good luck making an Arbor Press 🙂

Like others, this build is right up your alley. The soft back ground music was also a nice touch, well orchestrated 👍. I am in the process of modifying a concrete coring tower (has a 40in x 1.5in rack) into an arbor press / wood splitter / can crusher. Will share when completed. I have a #3 press, but since roughcut2023 and I built that hydraulic air assist press, the #3 became a floor ornament,, (@@)! See you on part 2, Bear.

Nice build ! I very much like that you do not weld it togheter so it can be altered easely if needed. I know these big arbor presses are expensive ,so building them would be saving a lot of money. However i think i would not bother making the rack and pinion myself. Its time consuming and you need proper tools/machines to make them ....tools and machines i do not have. They can be found very cheap in C45 steel ( hardable steel). A heavy module 4 rack( its 40mm square and 500 mm long) and a fitting module 4 pinion ( smallest is 12 teeth) would cost me 70 euro including shipping to my adress. Greetings from Belgium ;)

Nice work! I just recently bought an Fp1 and I’ve watched you videos on the table support. I see you are not using it in this video despite the same setup with the single lip cutter and dividing head that you discussed in that series. Did the support not work out as intended? Or was it not needed after all?
