    Annual Depreciation speaks the truth and does not lie whether u are buy a PARF or non-PARF car. Resale value is just the price the owner or dealer wants to sell at despite logical or not.
    I didn’t try to drive my car for 10 years but I drove my car for 12 years now. First and only owner of a FD2R. 😄👍🏻💪🏻

      Corolla altis, honda jazz, hyundai elantra. Why?
      Super easy to maintain, every mechanic knows how to work on them. Very healthy demand for these bread and butter cars.

    The way I see the current system of capping a maximum loan tenure of 7 years and a minimum % of downpayment required is that it sort of tries to make owners change new cars sooner while cars are ideally getting smaller capacity engines with supposedly reduced pollution. At least that is how I see the government trying to kill two birds with one stone. But of course this applies more for brand new cars, and my conclusion from this policy is to cap the loan tenure and ownership of a brand new car to 5 years and change car after that. This will allow your car's value to be generally sufficient for downpayment of the next car (assuming the price tag is not too hefty) and that way, one can avoid having to fork out as much cash as compared to changing a new car after finishing 10 years of the COE.
    Just sharing my two cents, hope I made some sense here. (:

    If you're getting a loan from a finance company, your depreciation will be much higher as it includes the interest from the bank. Unless you're buying cash, what you see in SGCARMART cars are depreciation before the interest kicks in.So as Julian states, driving the car till scrap is the best option.

    Really depends whether buying parf car or non-parf car. If parf car, I'll try to avoid those high COE value, and prefer those high parf value car.
    But for non-parf or nearly COE expire car, I'd prefer those low parf value, try bargain more with cash buying and later renew COE by my own.
    Actually COE bidding results can be one of the key critical point to change car, try monitoring & analysis it, then you will know roughly when is the best time, usually during recession time, COE price may also follow the trend and can be quite attractive low price. Economic cycle is about 10yrs windows period, if you manage to catch that economic cycle to change car, then you may get a good deal.

    Driving the same car for 10 years is a challenge, coz different needs may arise during that years, financial situation, family situation, etc. I think it is more practicle to see if u can afford to “lose the money” deposited on the car after you drive for “x” number of years, where “x” is the comfortable number of years you are willing to drive the car. So if 3 years is your comfort, see what is the depre and actual resale value and you can see sometimes, your car depreciate “higher” than the stated value coz your resale value is only so much after 3 years. Thats my opinion

    I think the depreciation is different at different time of the lifespan of a car. The resale value of a car will determine the depreciation of your car at the moment you sell it. I think this is important for people who don’t drive their cars the whole 10 years but tend to change them when warranty is up like after 3 or 5 years.

    Totally agree the longer you drive your car the more worth it - but do you think is worth ti renew the coe for another 10 years taking into account of replacing all wear and tear?

    Need some opinions!! Should I sell my golf mk6 that has a OMV of 29k+ or renew my golf. If I were to renew for 10 years, per month it will be $300-400 but given it is a more then 10 year old car the parts availability wear and tear can be a issue too. Or should I get another 2nd hand car that is registered on 2015 onwards which I can use for 6 years plus and monthly around 500-600. Parts wise will be more updated and available. Your thoughts

    Since a new car drops in value once it leaves the showroom, is there a best and worst time to sell a 1st hand car (i.e. considering warranty period, free servicing period, loan tenure etc)?

    • @Fmiso8581
      @Fmiso8581 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One good point could be 5 years as PARF rebate stays at 75% ARF. Otherwise could be once loan paid up. But the overriding factor could be COE of the current car and prevailing COE

      In fact, the value drops once you have registered your car.

    Depreciation all depends on popularity and perception. Bread and butter cars have lower depreciation as compared to cars that are "wants" rather than "needs".
