What this video and learn how to do backwards crossovers in detail, for hockey and skating.
Just gotta give you props for all these videos! I just got back into hockey and all your videos ranging from skate feedback to standard drills and techniques have been excellent. The backwards crossover for some reason was giving me such grief but your explanation helped me process the movements and lo and behold. Just went out and gave it a try and was finally able to nail it!
great job man, i started skating 2 days ago and your tutorials helped me a lot
Glad it help :) hope you keep watching and subscribe.
Finally! My backwards crossovers were the hardest thing for me to pick up but you made me understand the concept. Many thanks!
Most welcome.
good vid bro, not like some other I watched before where they go like...to do backward crossovers just go and do backward crossovers...
Cool thanks brotha. I'm trying to improve my skating. I started to play recreational ice hockey last year. You could say my skating sucks. Luckily there are lots of free rinks in Russia. There's one down the street from my apartment. Also Russian professional KHL matches are about $5-$10 for a decent ticket. The NHL is obviously better but it's still a good value. Apparently a lot of recruiters watch KHL games searching for new talent. Go Habs go! Montreal Canadiens forever baby!
Yaaaay! I am from Britain and I ADORE Havs

@thejoker596 Hi thanks for your support, you can grab one of our hoodies on our online store, I've sent you an inbox message with the link. You can also find the link to the store on our website main page the link to that is in the video description (top right hand site of our site). Thanks again.
A couple of things, yes the technique is headed the right direction, but from what I have noticed is that when you do backwards staking in general the hardest part for beginners is to build momentum, that's what I believe the majority of people who are starting out have, C-cuts and fishtails are great ways to build the momentum and confidence before doing the crossover strides which require more balance. Just my 2 cents.
Thank you for watching.
Very great point, perhaps a video on a more basic form of backwards skating is in order. Something covering the basic points of how to build momentum and of course confidence.
Check me out commenting after 9 years. Just came across this as I used to love ice skating when I was a yout and wanna get back into it. Really really good and informative tutorial.
You teach very methodically, step by step. Thank you.

Thanks mate, great videos! Can go pretty quick backwards, and switch from forwards to backwards. But this will definitely help. looking forward to watching some of your other videos.
I love playing ice hockey. I got my four year old niece into hockey. She can't wait to start.
Thanks for the videos guys - really helps when starting to skate :)
I have a question that has actually nothing to do with ice skating: What's the music around 2:50 min?
Thats right, I've recorded a few videos there in the past :)

Just saying i do them different, its weird with backwards crossovers, they're personal referance.
Good luck with more videos. (p.s: This is probebly the best way)
it helps your balance if you (with shoes on) do this up and down the stairs.

What shoes are you wearing?
Sorry i have to ask, just going to point out there that this video helped me tremendously, but i've been looking for that song for quite some time. The one during the text and slow-mo footage. Can't find it anywhere. I swore i heard it somewhere.
Welcome to Atl by DJ Ricky
Is there a video of that?
Nope, but you can find it on Spotify.
oh noo not that one. not the intro. the later one.
Cannot find that one either... sorry.
Does anyone know the song that’s playing? Also can we do these maneuvers on figure skates?
I'm Canadian and feel no shame to be taught ice skating by an Englishmen!
Great tutorial, thanks.
Inner blade ? Outer ?
Don’t forget to look behind you ie in the direction you are going rather than where you have been as in the video. You don’t want to flatten someone. 🙂
Oh whatever if you crash into a kid going backwards they're not going to die
@@michaelsuzio4364 Not true. You can cause serious injury, even death from a head injury. I know someone whose leg was broken above and below the knee, it took a year to heal. If you think you shouldn’t look where younare going, you should be banned.
@@StillAliveAndKicking_ I can barely skate backwards faster than 2mph lol nothing would happen at 1mph...I do look behind me but I'm blind in 1 eye...I can quad skate backwards at about 8-10mph
What boots do you have I have Easton Q1's
I'm working on my backwards crossovers, the front isn't so easy for a 5'.6 frame
You don’t need to lift your trailing foot off the ice, keep it down, it’s easier. And more knee bend.
Thanks man :-)
tankhs
+Vapors Bauer13 nice avatar. Canadiens rule!
OK i skate att MK but the ice is never free like this how did you get rid of everyone lol
I play ice hockey
How long will it take me to learn how to play hockey? lol we are making a team and i suck at skating but its for fun. They say just play hockey and ill learn how to skate better at the same time
My recommendation would be to take a simple beginner ice skating class. in my area it's pretty cheap for as many classes as you get. but I also took a hockey camp to learn how to play and skate as well.... 4 weeks later I was Invited to play on a League and playing the Pepsi center in a couple of weeks.... now a member of USA Hockey and going to be doing a camp at DU shortly..... if you focus and really pay attention and listen to the instructors, you will be playing like a pro in no time. I\It IS true that you get better skating while playing, but I recommend that you learn the fundamentals first so you don't get discouraged.
Roller blades help
I can only go one way! My feet refuse to go clockwise.
Same here I can barely tell if I skate backwards clockwise or counter i do know that I can only do a crossover 1 way and not the other(I've only ice skated 8 times so far mixed in backwards 3 skate sessions ago)
u dnt cross ur legs over
I wish I had that accent
*""ARE YOU YOUNGER IN THE VIDEO""?????????*
Eksons3
Wait. Can you explain the weight transfer again? I didn't quite understand how all my weight can be on one leg if I'm only standing on that leg. Pffft. If this is an example of what we can expect, your channel is a joke.
