I have two different skating coaches and I don't know why neither of them is able to break it down as easily as you do. Thank you for your videos :) I'd hire you as my personal skating coach in a heartbeat!
Thank you very much. Many other videos made it look super easy, but your video shows that it's a progress! That gives me confidence and made me not frustrated for making little improvement.
Hey dude, being Czech, knowing my country have won so many world championships, England being hockey rubbish, I must admit that you are a great skater, a great teacher, a great performer I have learned a lot from! Just keep on doing what youre doing! Great job!!!
@kingjoker510 Weight would be around the back portion of the skates blade when in the turn (the rocking method can help pick up speed when coming out of the turn).
Thank you for the kind words. I would recommend watching the latest video I uploaded, it covers this subject. Try to let your right foot slide out ahead of your left skate before dropping your weight down into the turn. The latest video will go into more detail on it (tight turns & crossovers on your weak side)
I like the way you break it down into the basics and emphasise repetition. Leaning inwards in an unstable manner is scary at first. I am though surprised that your head and shoulders face outwards. Everyone who taught me this - basically two hockey coaches - emphasised turning the head and shoulders in the direction of the turn. It makes it much easier, with less speed lost, and on exiting you are already in position to do a crossover to accelerate away. And of course looking where you’re going is not such a bad idea.
Awesome video! My only question is this: in learning how to make tight hockey turns from others, I haven't seen the inward leaning of the knees taught like you do here. Other tutorials and coaches I've met haven't stressed the lean, but it seems like you make effective turns while tilting the knees and legs inward during the turn. Do you think it's easier to make sharp turns with this lean and do you think it's at all dangerous? (say you got hit while turning)
Thank you for doing a step by step video with slo mo and repetitive views. Also the explanation of exactly what should lean where and how to build that up is wjat i needed. THANK YOU!
great video, helped me alot on improving my balance with my hockey turns. one question, whould i put most of my weight on my heals when turning? or should i kind of rock from center of blade to my heal.
Hi, I LOVE all your videos I improved a lot with all those instructions. My question is a llittle bit weird but when I do tight turns on my weak side (turning right) I have a very hard time to put my right leg in front. It seems that my legs are staying too close from each other. My feet are staying almost parallel to each other. Is there something I can do to correct that ? Thx
I’ve watched countless of how to ice skate videos just to get everyone’s view and opinion on how to begin, I just wish I could be on an ice rink every day, it looks so calming
@Thaddeus curry, if u feel like u r going to fall, u r probably leaning into ur turns. Like if ur turning left, then u lean left. Most coaches teach this. What U actually want to do is counterlean. So if ur turning left, lean right so that ur shoulders are square. This will help u maintain balance
hi. nice tutorial! it's pretty easy for me to do this with hockey skates but can i do this with inline skates too? just asking because it's almost summer time and i my ice rink will close this week but i want to skate :( thanks in advance
i ,bet youre alot more advanced in skating than me. im getting better with turns but i CANNOT lear to hockey stop, i either lose my balance or end up just turning.. :(
at 9:00 to 9:20, it looks like you're afraid to crossover step out of your own tight turn going to the right. i'm not hating, but i'm assuming your left side is strong side?
@BlobIslandGame You're either in the wrong frame of mind for that (embarrassment), or in the wrong rink. On ice, when people fall, most people are concerned for the fallen, not amused by it. Falling IS hazardous and is usually not seen as a something to be made fun of. Try the moves in the center (play zone) of the rink, not in traffic. Lastly, if you're not falling (or almost), then you're not trying. Take it slow and keep at it.
It always feels like my right skate cant stay on that outside edge when turning right i lose it. How do i keep my weight evenly distributed? My weight always ends up on my rear skate when i turn right.
@ZackyPong777 +1 My bet is that he's never been skating himself. Only a fool that's never been on a rink (and has his head up his ykw) would ever say something like that.
@exsashank2 come on man?.. did you really need to bring race into the matter? ps. back in the day my dad used roller blade/skate and so did many black people... so please dont act like in that manner

@bcrich26 I normally have a 5/16, keep in mind ice conditions will affect your ability to hold the ice in general (so even tight turns)
Greetings from Estonia and thanks for the great tips bro! Good luck!
Dude.... how is the rink so empty? Where is thissss
watch the video to 9:35 and you'll know..
Ice rink in Milton Keynes, UK - a couple hours drive north of London.

Thanks you for watching
My dad has been trying to teach me this, this video helps. I try to envision wrapping around the post behind the net.
This is so cool! Makes me want to go and skate!
I’ve watched countless of how to ice skate videos just to get everyone’s view and opinion on how to begin, I just wish I could be on an ice rink every day, it looks so calming
If you have been skating these 3 years, I think you'll realise how packed the public sessions are HAHA

I love the name: majestic wombat 😂🎀💓💓💓🎀
Yes, I normally go 3/8 or 5/16
Are your blades a 3/8?
Right footed but I'm comfortable on both
Thx, great help right here!
Sent you afraid of falling cause I can ice skate fairly well and like when I try to turn there's always this feeling that I'm gonna fall
Dylan McBride first time ice skating i fell and literally slammed the side of my face on the ice but i was fine. i think ur good
+Clever Happy Derp laughed out loud at your comment lol
Austin Mendelsohn lol
How deep of a hollow do you sharpen your blades to be able to hold on to a turn like that?
hi. nice tutorial! it's pretty easy for me to do this with hockey skates but can i do this with inline skates too? just asking because it's almost summer time and i my ice rink will close this week but i want to skate :( thanks in advance
Hay man this really helps keep making more videos I am only 12 and I am trying to try out for a hockey team so just throw some more tips out there.
this was very helpful
This guy is awesome
Are you supposed to keep the weight more on the ball of your foot or toward the heel?
Weight is slightly towards the heel, but not too much. Just practice as he demonstrates, but point your head and shoulders in the direction of motion.
Nice thanks,
how sharp are your blades ?
@jcunanan2012 Thank you *N.V - Hero*

Thank you lot
You should become a skating coach!
I've been trying to do this turn for a week or two now... My problem is mainly that I tend to keep the majority of my weight on my outside foot...
how is your skating now?
+Moe Gains Good now, turns are the least of my concern, lol. Now I'm learning to get better control over my edges.
i ,bet youre alot more advanced in skating than me. im getting better with turns but i CANNOT lear to hockey stop, i either lose my balance or end up just turning.. :(

dude I get this aswell, I'm right footed but because I'm so used to skating anti clockwise my left foot has better balance =/
Not right. Body must be turned inside turn! His shoulders outside - that's wrong! You must work with the balance of weight .
indeed
0:20
ok kewl, good tutorial, lets be friends!
Damn im doing it wrong i put my outside skate forward because it feels easyer to switch to a crosover
Dont't be scared man, everyone starts somewhere!
I love his accent
When you make a 3 minutes video in a 10 minute
@ZackyPong777 +1 My bet is that he's never been skating himself. Only a fool that's never been on a rink (and has his head up his ykw) would ever say something like that.
Anyone 2018
Whisper more about it
stereotypical great hockey player white canadian
reality black british

He can't really skate tbh, everytime he turns, he is basically stopping.
You are an idiot
+Solaxer turn like that in a game and watch how quickly youre gonna get nailed
*****
we are not talking about "what if" he did this or "what if" he did that
***** yes because notice him in the video, everytime he finishes the turn he stops.
*****
turning and then stopping, who cant do that? thats like grabbing the boards when stopping, i mean what is the purpose of that?
