Definitely need work on my backwards crossovers! I don't get why they are so difficult when they're basically the same motion as a forwards crossover and those are pretty easy for me!

    • @-Nobody-1
      @-Nobody-1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not the same motion though. Your not stepping over. You’re grabbing ice and bringing it under you… so to speak. Its a cross under.

@@-Nobody-1that’s how I do I my forwards ones too tbh. Dog my edge in and push under as my outside leg steps over

So good to see a tutorial on backwards cross overs that isn't just going round in a circle. I.e actually useful!

This is the best breakdown of backwards crossovers on hockey skates I’ve seen. Excited to give this a go!

Hi, I particularly appreciate the part between 0:30 and 1:00, the glide on one leg with alternating C-cuts and underpushes. This really helps understand what each leg is doing during that move. Thanks a lot! :)

This is an excellent video. The advice is spot on. It's a little counter-intuitive, but the more you "step out", the easier it is to get that "push under" and then cross over with the other foot.

I have seen this explained in other videos but never quite got it. This is the first video where it was explained slowly and in great detail, so I finally understood that second push and where it is supposed to come from. Thanks! 😃👍

Wow probably the best video I've seen so far on how to crossover backwards. Others are explained and demonstrated too quickly. lol

Good stuff Matt! I'd love to see the backwards cut to the middle on the blue line (o zone). Keep up the good work.

Am I crazy or were you crossing behind your front foot in the beginning of the video, but then later you were crossing in front of the front foot?

Yeah the two sections were different. In the first part he is doing it with one leg and in the second part the C-cut is with one leg and the push is with the other leg.

@@Ghost9909 luckily since i commented on this years ago i figured out how to do this lol. it's very hard to teach someone this, it all comes down to just knowing your body, the edges, and how to move on the ice!

Could you do a video showing the same moves but slower? Specifically when you say push and pull? Maybe overhead camera view would be good?

If you need to get up to speed in short distance, try a backwards waltz-step instead.

I got so confused watching this. In the first demo, he shows the C-cut and the push with the same leg, but in the 2nd part, he C-cuts with one leg and pushes with the other. It took me a few watches to see the difference.

i downloaded this video on my ph and watched at the ice rink today, tried to copy the foot work. I could not pick up my foot to go over it even, i can skate backwards well and i can do forward crossovers easily but i can't do the the backward, why? :) i almost feel like need to hold someone hands to stay in balance!

    • @HockeyProTraining

Keep practicing, go slow, work on doing it stationary and when you feel more comfortable pick up your speed.

If I can a full ice rink for myself then id try it, if I did this in my local rink they would think i'm mental

    • @Dansnox
      @Dansnox 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Then your ego is bigger than your drive to improve. When learning you have to forget about people "thinking your mental" the reality of it is they will have forgotten about you 5 minutes after walking off the rink.
