I have waited YEARS for this moment. I'm SOOOO happy you guys finally decided to do an episode on using distortion healthily in singing.

I think I would have cried if Halestorm's Lizzy Hale wasn't used as an example here! :)

great that the series is back with even more interesting stuff! (watched nearly all EPs)
is it really as loud as talking? it seems like screaming/shouting... cuz for me i got a blockade and cant scream since my anxiety kicked in 15 years ago, even when alone theres a blockade i still couldnt get through
and others in tutorials were always shouting (i can sing a bit louder but that rasp while singing loud... idk my voice stops there, cant put in that tension)

Hi Psinfoni! It really isn't loud or a shout. You should be able to do it next to someone without them feeling like they have to block their ears. You may hear it differently from talking because of various frequencies that are amplified depending on the production of the distortion and the notes being sung. But it's definitely not a scream and isn't very loud! -NYVC

Thanks! I’m going to try these techniques. I have some lingering questions about overall loudness of various approaches. I’ve searched and searched and can’t seem to find definitive answers. I may email you Justin to see if you can point me in the right direction.

I try, I get the sound. I even do it with a low volume but my throat doesn’t feel comfortable after doing it only for a few minutes. Should I stop? What could be my problem? My throat is feeling dry or a little rough

It sounds like you might be doing it too aggressively and not subtly enough. We definitely recommend stopping if it's fatiguing you or hurting you. That is never the goal! If you really want to become skilled with Distortion even one lesson with a trusted teacher could benefit you! -NYVC

I start to belive TH-cam, Google and others REALLY is reading our thoughts. Yesterday on my way home I was talking with my daughter about how I would love to have a great voice to be able to sing WITHOUT ALL the distortion. I never searched for anything things about, and I was not talking over the phone about it. And guess what's the first video that appears as I turned TH-cam on????? I'm not joking, TH-cam is reading our minds, and I'm not the first person who's saying this. I know when we watch a video about certain things, TH-cam refers more videos related to the same subject, but this is not a search, is reading MY MIND! This is not the law of attraction neither, because I only just talk about it for a brief moment. Other people have said the same thing have happened to them. Like this lady: she was telling her son of a movie they should watch later,,,,,,guess what?? The movie just poop out first thing without she searched for it.
