Hey man. As a fellow Sarawakian myself, man I'm so glad you manage to capture all of these and upload it online. I grew up in Kuching and what you showed in this video is exactly how things are in Kuching. Everything about Kuching is well documented in this episode. From the history, culture, the price range of things, the community, the smile on everyone's faces, the way each and every one of them can understand and talk to you, is just beautiful.
    Beautifully captured!

    Fun fact,
Sarawak and Sabah - despite being within and under the sovereignty of Malaysia - reserve some autonomy that other states don’t. The official language of Sarawak is not Malay, but English. East Malaysia and West Malaysia have separate high courts namely the High Court of Malaya and the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak. They also have their own immigration departments. These are due to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 that grants them with these upon the formation of Malaysia. They (Sabah and Sarawak) alongside Malaya formed Malaysia together and are equal member of the federation. Their status is higher than other states.
Furthermore, contrary to popular belief, His Majesty Rajah James Brooke was loved by the Sarawakians and they DID NOT want to be under British control and preferred the House of White Rajahs. The Sarawak separatist movement would fly the old Brooke’s Sarawak flag during protest instead of the current flag.
The sixth generation of the Brooke family plays some roles in Sarawak, mostly in charity. He’s the director of the Brooke Trust and Brooke Museums, and the president of The Sarawak Association.
In Malaysia, kek lapis Sarawak (Sarawak layer cake) has been a protected geographical indication since 2010. This means that any product may only be called "kek lapis Sarawak/Sarawak layer cake" if it is manufactured in Sarawak according to the specifications of the Sarawak Layer Cake Manufacturers Association. It is illegal to label a similarly-manufactured cake "kek lapis Sarawak/Sarawak layer cake" if it is not actually made in Sarawak, and strictly speaking, producers outside the state may only legally name their products "Sarawak-style" layer cake.
    Source:
    onlineip.myipo.gov.my/index.cfm?event=search.gi.details&id=X29 via Wikipedia
And Kek Lapis Sarawak can be very expensive in Peninsular Malaysia. RM10 is actually a bargain! My favorite Sarawak traditional cake is Hati Pari

I see if I can get Cadbury layer cake from him soon enough.

If you guys want to experience living in a longhouse of Bidayuh tribe( sub tribe Bidayuh Sadong), I highly recommend you a stay in Kpg Mongkos, Serian which is about 90++km from Kuching. This kampung situated just a few meters from Sarawak-Kalimantan border. Other places also got traditional bidayuh longhouse, like the one in Bung Jagoi/Bung bratak Bau. They are also bidayuh, but from different sub-tribe( bidayuh bau/jagoi). Other than that, we also have longhouse in Annah Rais, Padawan( bidayuh sub-tribe Biatah), situated at the borneo highland which is also the marking of Sarawak-Kalimantan border.

Oh...btw, Steve..you're Canadian right? Did you know that there's a town called 'Sarawak' somewhere in Grey County, Ontario, and also a village called 'Brooke' nearby...the town & village was named after Kingdom of Sarawak in Borneo back then in 1857 by Lord Bury aka William Coutts-Keppel; the Governor-General of Canada at that time. His uncle, Sir Henry Keppel was a good friend of James Brooke. James Brooke bought a ship from Henry Keppel, which is known as HMS Dido.

I just brought my friends from Kelantan and Johor there and they loved it. Really friendly owner. Other recommendations, you can stop by to Sepinang Sari at Satok for legendary beef noodles and Pak Awang Mee Jawa with some good satays as well. You can google these locations.

Welcome to Sarawak. Do plan a visit to the Sarawak Tourism Office at the old court house. There's lot's going on this year but due to the pandemic recovery, most events are not updated on their websites.
There's Pesta Benak, Pesta Kaul of the Melanau, the Pesta Nukenen of the Kelabit, the Pesta Benak - Tidal bore festival, The borneo kite festival in Bintulu, Borneo cultural festival in Sibu, Borneo tattoo convention, The Sarawak regatta, Kapit festival - crazy powerboat races and unique foods and the list goes on. So do drop by the tourism board office to get an overview of the events.
Do also check out the Express BOAT schedules as they are some of the most comfortable and scenic ways to travel Sarawak.
For this weekend, do pop by Siniawan during the evenings. The night market is popping. There's a pub there called the Bikalan. The owners are an amazing couple and they will give you great tips on the going ons in the area. Got a real nice homestay there too to serve as your launching pad for the Bau area.
Enjoy your stay and looking forward to more videos of your adventures here.

aaa..history of sarawak, sultan brunei kingdom was huge one time...from brunei to kalimantan, to sarawak, sabah then to phillipine..that was his kingdom...he was threatened by james brooke(if i am not mistaken) that if he was not given the land that is sarawak now, he wont have guarantee to be protected against his enemies...thats one of the reasons the sultan gave him sarawak....well, i dont know whether this is mentioned in the museum as i myself havent even gone to that museum..i hope the museum is as good as its value of about rm100million worth of project....lots of stories behind the white rajah, and one of the white rajah, charles brooke, he married a malay through civil marriage and they had a son, when charles went back to england because he needed to find finance as sarawak was in debt or needed money, he came back to sarawak with an english wife..his wife was surprised that he had a wife too in kuching, when the malay wife died, she arranged with a priest to adopt the boy and brought him back to england becus she feared he would be next king, the priest was paid allowance for looking after the boy, the priest then moved to canada, the boy grew up and spent his life there in canada...his grand daughter came here few years back...btw how am i to contact you guys since i live in kuching...if you dont mind....

Hi guys 👋 Ken , Mr and Mrs Dodo thanks for taking us around Kuching , beautiful place and the people are so nice and friendly 👍🏻 the layer cake i.e kek lapis is very popular in Sarawak , this cake can be found almost every where in Sarawak. Usually this cake would be served on special occasion such as on religious or cultural celebrations or weddings. Now they’re doing good business by selling these cakes , have a great time 😘🥰👍🏻
