- Wow! How lucky were we to have visited not one, not two, but five longhouses during our trip in Sarawak.
This time, we were invited to an Iban modern longhouse.
This one was very different than other longhouses we have visited previously.
It might be the most luxurious longhouse that ever existed!
Although the house was unique, the people still had the same welcoming spirit and hospitality.
We met Mr. Sukarno whom welcomed us with open arms as if we were his own children.
A huge thank you to Mr. Sukarno and Madame Seri, and the chief and residence of this modern longhouse for having us.

The longhouse chief name is Mr. Sekino Selong..back then, we work together at the same place in an Oil & Gas company. He is my super senior technician, my team leader, my mentor during his service with the company. a very..very nice guy.
I am a sarawakian from the dayak Kenyah Community..I grew up in the long house and its our culture to welcome visitors with open arm into our village and we must never let visitors leave our village hungry or without serving them foods or drinks
The "Chief of the Day" is Mr Sekino. We used to work together in the oil&gas company in Bintulu. Super nice guy. Glad to see him in your video. Thanks Steve & Ivana!

This is Malaysia..Generousity never ending.. You can have a new brother, sister also a new family in Malaysia... The door of the house always open for the guest...
The hall way is call the ruai, it's the most important part of the house where all the families gather to celebrate any occasion.. enjoy guys, great to see you all...
If you guys planned to come back, make it during Gawai celebration(Harvest Festival) that fall at the end of May to early June(peak at 31May and 1June). You guys won't be coming to empty longhouses and the party mostly last from dusk till dawn depending on the vibe on each particular longhouse. Might as well make a trip to Mulu in rural Miri, Sarawak only UNESCO WHS exploring caves and hiking in nature.

4:45 yes. cockfighting chicken. the fight itself is very cruel. fyi, most cockfighting is illegal. if you ever get invited to one, be prepared to run and find a place to hide if the law enforcement authority decides to have a raid. 😁

Hi Steve. Actually, the local there are not working with oil palm company but working at their own oil palm plantation. In Sarawak, many local have their own oil palm plntation especially the one who living in long house.

Tq for the visit and exploring our Iban longhouse.There are hundreds of modern longhouses in Sarawak.In future do stay overnight/several days especially during the festive day, Gawai Day in May/June..There will be no regret..Trust me..

You guys have seen the traditional, wooden and the modern concrete long house. It's innovation through time. I can see in the next 10 years or more, long house are as such. It's just another for of a terrace houses.

I suggest that you come during Gawai, from 31st May - 3rd June. Try to visit every 'pintu' in the longhouse & assure you that you will have totally different experience. Btw nice video. Thumbs up!

Hi there guys. You ever going to go to the Philippines Steve. Your super fun appearance and personality would go off big time with the locals, moreso because the majority speak English and they worship TH-camrs showcasing their country. It's like a hobby to them. Not that you need a kick start with subbie numbers and the views that come with it but, just the same I reckon they would go through the roof. I know so many vloggers are on the Philippines band wagon at the minute but maybe it's worth considering further down the track. Whenever we visit longhouse, we bring biscuits, bread, beer and cans of soft drinks.
19:12 all rumah panjang has a name. usually the name of the Tuai Rumah aka Tuan Rumah aka Head aka Chief. quite recently, i believe, all new Tuai Rumah are required to have some kind of formal qualifications. the Ketua Kampung in the Peninsular need at least a Diploma and some computer knowledge 😁
didnt expect that a white people will had a suspicious towards others. As far as i know the sarawakian is the most sincere and humble human i ever met. especially if you visit their long house and get to know their culture. Such as the Orang ulu ( many sub ethnic) , the ibans and etc. They always welcoming people to stay and experience their culture. If they invited you to their house and serve you drinks(be it alcohol or no) , bbq session , sharing session that mean they are welcoming outsider into their family with sincere heart. Huge respect. Hi, after watching your videos, I really wanted to go to the longhouse, I booked the flight and I'm trying to find a way to book a tour that you had, but it costed about $300-400 per night. Is that the price that you had paid or can I get some infos of booking a tour there?

@@JetLagWarriors once i went to my friends longhouse during gawai... We ngabang every door of that 100 plus longhouse... We started at 8 am and around 11am i was so wasted and fall asleep on the ruai.. few hours later i wake up and continue and get wasted the second time around 5 pm... Wake up few hours later and continue untill the last door lol.... It's crazy but so much fun lol
