Like many German Autos, this is designed for the Chinese market - they love all the edges and lines and protrusions and fake vents and LEDs and bling. I have to agree that the design of the exterior does nothing at all for me. Other than keep on walking. The interior is a bit better but for a £40k starting price it just seems to be over priced.
We really are in the modern malaise era now... Pretty much every new car just makes me go "nope"... How can the price of this absolute turd of a thing possibly be justified?! Especially with so much blatant cost cutting... ! The idea of running a 10+ year old car seems more and more appealing to me...
I am lucky and got an a3 from 2015 from my family, and while this car is missing some technology features, it has everything I need, is simple, works and does not have any unnecessary thrills. Just nice and very comfortable seats and a good looking interior. I really do not see a reason to buy a new car right now and I am probably going to run that a3 until the end , in hopes that something decent will be available then.

All new cars, especially EVs are built for company leases in mind, i think its like 75% of all new EV sales here in Sweden are company leases, manufacturers know companies got alot of cash so they can literally charge you as much as they possibly want and it wont affect sales.

Euro NCAP has done just that. Any new car that doesn't have physical buttons for common vehicle controls will not be given a 5* safety rating. Not sure when it comes into force though. You can bet that manufacturers will bring buttons back instantly as they need those 5* ratings.
Well the reason for this design is most likely to market it in China since they love this god awful styling for some reason. It’s the reason all new BMWs look so strange, same with other manufacturers like Buick, they’re intending for these cars to be hits in China. It’s unfortunate.

I really don’t think you wet using the B mode correctly: on my i4 in B mode you modulate the amount of regen using the pedal: so instead of just stepping off it you can gently cruise to a half by just taking SOME of the pressure off it. In this way B mode is actually way more predictable than D. The benefit of D mode is when in cruise it delivers much softer transitions and if you speed up beyond selected speed by manually pressing the pedal, it will coast back to the designated speed, where as B mode will just apply max regen to get the speed back.
I like BMW’s new exterior designs, I currently own a Benz took a 2023 3 series for a test drive and was disappointed by the low quality of the reverse camera. I don’t depend on cameras as I drive trucks for a living but for $75k I would hope the camera is better than ones found in Hyundai Elantras Had the camera improved with this X2?
Always been a Bimmer man, great cars, amazing to drive, build quality that is excellent but the pricing these days is just egregious. In 5 years the price of the tourings has gone up by 50%, one with 5k on the clock will set you back 40K from a main dealer where 5 years ago it was 25-27k. Yes i know prices will vary depending on where you buy it but there is no denying the huge inflation. And thats before you get into optional extras.
Since you've started testing the parking systems I would definitely like to see you testing the adaptive high beams on these cars. It is a really useful feature in modern cars that rarely gets any mentions in reviews for some reason.
I think the regulators needs to make a law that says volume and climate control functions should have dedicated buttons as standard on every vehicle. Controlling volume and climate in your car should not be hidden behind menus in the infotainment system.
