Probably the most jaw dropping moment in any film that come out around the same time. We all knew it was coming but tell me you didnt you didnt have to watch that part over and over again
Same when I watch it. They nerfed the Apes by making them used spears instead of the of assault rifles from the weapon depot from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes They also nerfed Donkey because he could easily destroy the man behind him after shooting the rocket to save Caesar. I think when the colonel showed mercy by not killing Caesar, that's his downfall. Caesar sparing Preacher got him killed at the end. They all need to be like Koba. This video has 2 hidden message dedicating to Koba. Released Covid-19 in the center of certain Asian country to stop it raise and completely eliminating the Native Americans Indians to stop it threat. Koba style. Update I want to ask the following questions as my memory is still fresh. When the man meet Caesar as he's collecting firewoods. Why didn't he got infected? The colonel got infected and turned within a day after touching Nova doll. Is the wood cutter one of colonel man who defy his order to kill all infected or be killed? Who infected Nova? Did Nova turned the moment Caesar killed the wood cutter? Who's blood is on Nova doll?

The reason the US didn't bomb the Redwoods is not only due to conservation laws, but also due to the virus spreading via the pilot being infected by the fat scientist. They had bigger things to deal with then killing what they still thought were just animals, unfortunately for them the virus was so potent that it caused complete societal collapse. I also feel you gave Bad Ape too much hate, yes he is a comic relief character, but his story of being a survivor of purges of Apes in zoos during the Simian Flu crisis gives him more depth as a character. It's the reason he helps Caesar despite his fear of the 'human zoo', he lost his family to humans just like Caesar lost most of his. But I will admit War is my least favorite of the trilogy, Rise will always be my favorite since you can go from it to the original Planet of the Ape movie and everything will still make sense.

Ceaser being so pissed all the time but still holding back is so painful to watch. It's like he has a deeper conscious than even the others. Also, I like that Ceasar saw the old film before the climax. It renewed his resolve to protect his humanity, the wisdom to avoid needless war.
I don't know if it would be too dark for audiences, but I would really love to see an actual war movie with war-paint, spear wielding and arrow shooting apes in the woods versus human soldiers. The one scene we get was very short. I would have loved a whole movie with it!

This is the best way to make a reboot or remake. You keep the spirit of the original, you make parallels to the events of the original, you develop the original's themes by showing them from new perspectives or subverting/deconstructing them, but at the same time you make a new story, a new set of characters, a new narrative telling its own arc. This reboot trilogy worked because it wasn't literally just a rehash of something we've already seen, but at the same time stays true to the text about the original's theme of "us versus the other".
The transition from Cesar fighting the solider in the dark to batman fighting the goon in the dark is absolutely CLEAN. Awesome work man, you sent me through a nostalgia trip with this video. Keep it up!
I love these movies! RISE was such a groundbreaking start. Totally blew me away when I first saw it years ago. DAWN is probably my favorite. Although the human storyline was somewhat weak-the ape colony and the world building was fantastic. Koba was definitely the best antagonist and took DAWN to another level. WAR was heartbreaking as we saw Caesar’s last moments. We followed him from birth until death, we witness all his hardships and felt all of his emotions. It was a bittersweet closure of a great trilogy!
I take Bad Ape's comedy and quirkyness the effect of being alone with grief and not really knowing what the feeling is (from the scene he first appears in, he says he's been alone since losing his wife and child) so that added with loneliness, would make one quite eccentric to say the least He also goes all out to protect the children when the apes make their escape at the end
The build up from these movies is so masterfully well done. Caesar went from being a household pet produced from a lab experiment to becoming the savior and liberator among apes. He went from being seen as an animal to then being seen as an equal among humans and eventually apes dominated over them. The character development is mind blowing going from basic apes to these complex characters that progressively develop throughout the movie.
You should know after Rise there was a novel that came out that showed the apes survival and Koba's backstory called Firestorm and in it the government did try to burn down the woods they did manage to kill some apes it was so bad that the apes remembered it as "The day and night of flame"
You're killing it man, I just discovered your breaking bad video and have been binging your channel for 2 days. It's great how consistently well made your videos are, keep up the good work 👏
Koba is one of my absolute favorite characters of all time. What a dark, twisted, badass character. He was made into what he was. Love Maurice, too. I’m glad they didn’t show Koba get squished. He was bad but he’d been though enough torture in his life
I was 12 years old when I saw War for the Planet of the apes on theaters back in 2017, and I absolutely loved it to this date. Even after watching the trilogy all together years later, it's still my favorite and find it incredibly underrated. Rupert Wyatt and Matt reeves thanks. And why hasn't Andy Serkis gotten an Oscar yet, I mean his gollum duh 🐏💯😅.

Not pointless at all! I appreciate the kind words. I try to keep my recaps more focused on the fun of watching movies and occasionally ripping on them when I think it's funny or necessary to.
Actually, now that you mentioned it, the army trying to bomb the Muir Woods was actually touched upon in the prequel book “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes : firestorm”. I highly recommend purchasing it when you get the chance.

Just did a rewatch of the series and remembered how hyped I was for them coming out years back. By far one of my favorite personal trilogies and glad matt reeves took over for the 2nd and 3rd movies. In my opinion my favorite is the 2nd then the 1st and 3rd are neck and neck. Will definitely keep this series close to my heart and continue to rewatch in the future!

Jacobs fought for money, Dreyfus fought for his people, Koba fought for himself, and McCullough fought for humanity. Each antagonist had a morality built on what they have went through (apart from Jacob, he wanted just greed and the animal controller's son is an ass).
You know what Schindler's List needed, Bad Ape. That movie was such a bummer, we needed Bad Ape to fall out of the watch towers after slipping on a banana peel.

It's nice to see someone bring up Micheal Giacchino and MOH: frontline, that game is a masterpiece if for nothing else it's amazing soundtrack, every single piece made for that game has stuck with me through the years. It for me is one of the best original scores developed for any game in the WW2 genre. And I have to agree wholeheartedly about Gary Oldmans character being slept on, his performance is extremely captivating when compared to the other human leads. I also like how the third film ends all happy and sunshine with the apes finding a new home, as if the entire human race isn't f*cked beyond repair. Great video as ever, i personally enjoy the longer ones.
I think you're the first person I've interacted with who has a love for MOH: Frontline too. The whole game hits hard and makes you feel like you belong in the fight and yeah I definitely think a big part of that is Michael's work. Thanks for the kind words, I do definitely enjoy working on the longer videos, I just feel compelled to bits in between to keep my audience aware that I am alive lol
@@Howesenberg I don't believe the game is as remembered by the public as much as the other titles in the series or games in its genre, but whenever I find a fan of the game they more often than not, love it vehemently. It helps i think, that it plays sort of like a WW2 James bond film, with all the sneaking about you do, and the theatrical elements and set pieces, help it stand apart from most games we think of when it comes to WW2. The amount of care that went into the game by the developers was nothing short of gold standard. And like you say, it engrosses the player so heavily, from the narration to the world building, to the score it all adds so much to feeling like what we do ingame is making a difference. Also quite rare for a WW2 game, it actually had the Germans portrayed in a neutral light, with the pub scene in particular showing us their human side. But thank you for the videos, kind words is the least we can offer to people who go out of their way, to entertain others, without them society would fall apart from boredom alone. Keep up the being alive!

This reboot trilogy worked because it wasn't literally just a rehash of something we've already seen, but at the same time stays true to the text about the original's theme of "us versus the other".
The second one was definitely my favorite.
Same here
@@mcwarrior_84 My favourite too
Finally someone who just as hurt as me when Winter was a traitor ☹️😖❕ …
Watching this after the most recent teaser trailer, epic work. CLASSIC trilogy
💪
@@Howesenberg goated work !!!
The transition from Cesar fighting the solider in the dark to batman fighting the goon in the dark is absolutely CLEAN. Awesome work man, you sent me through a nostalgia trip with this video. Keep it up!
Timestamp?
The first movie is SO good. The other two are good on their own right, but the first one is so incredible.

Defn the best one outta the trilogy
i love how throughout the trilogy, ceasar's voice sounds more and more like andy serkis, like more and more human
Its cool how ceasar is the only one that looks so different than the others, he’s facial structures are like so good
Been waiting for this one. I enjoy the long recaps, probably the best vids you have so far are the Squid Game and Breaking Bad recaps.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you're enjoying what I do.
@@Howesenberg they're also a great way to understand the shows, after watching your Breaking Bad video I decided to watch the series in full!
I take Bad Ape's comedy and quirkyness the effect of being alone with grief and not really knowing what the feeling is (from the scene he first appears in, he says he's been alone since losing his wife and child) so that added with loneliness, would make one quite eccentric to say the least
He also goes all out to protect the children when the apes make their escape at the end
"Leave him!" Was more badass than all of his prior quotes.
No!
You should know after Rise there was a novel that came out that showed the apes survival and Koba's backstory called Firestorm and in it the government did try to burn down the woods they did manage to kill some apes it was so bad that the apes remembered it as "The day and night of flame"
I still get teary eyed when he says ceaser is home to franko 😢
That "expelliarmus" voice over at 13:36 had me cracking! That was fucking gold
I'm glad someone noticed
@@Howesenberg it caught me totally off guard. Thank you for that bit!
@@Howesenberg I heard it as well and even rewound the video to show her lol. She thought it was funny as welll

I had to scroll to agree I laughed out loud literally.
You're killing it man, I just discovered your breaking bad video and have been binging your channel for 2 days. It's great how consistently well made your videos are, keep up the good work 👏
The first time he says no and when he dies in the end still gives me chills to this day
It always saddens me that a good person who just wanted to make things better for humanity accidentally triggered their downfall
I wonder how Will felt when he was dying from the virus.
Its just like Skynet but it's Monke instead of Robot.
Koba is one of my absolute favorite characters of all time. What a dark, twisted, badass character. He was made into what he was. Love Maurice, too.
I’m glad they didn’t show Koba get squished. He was bad but he’d been though enough torture in his life
“I’d sooner pick a fight with Tyson fury then having to go through this crazy bastard” that is also funny
War of the Planet of the Apes is truly a powerful movie. I think its very underrated only because of the genre.
I was 12 years old when I saw War for the Planet of the apes on theaters back in 2017, and I absolutely loved it to this date. Even after watching the trilogy all together years later, it's still my favorite and find it incredibly underrated. Rupert Wyatt and Matt reeves thanks. And why hasn't Andy Serkis gotten an Oscar yet, I mean his gollum duh 🐏💯😅.
might be pointless commenting this on such an old video but i just wanna say i love how positive you are in these videos, its so easy to just shit on these movies in these kind of videos as i often see people doing but you always seem to highlight the positives while still making funny comments on where they fall flat. just wanted to get that out there excited to see you hit 100k!
Not pointless at all! I appreciate the kind words. I try to keep my recaps more focused on the fun of watching movies and occasionally ripping on them when I think it's funny or necessary to.
Just rewatched the trilogy with my sister and I forgot how well executed these movies were. Well ahead of their time such masterpieces
pretty obvious but we can’t forget the man himself andy serkis not only played kong in 2005 but gollum as well… bro pioneered the mocap movement
When Cesar screams no, it literally gave me chills!!
Not going lie these Trilogy summary’s are funny and spot on 😂😂 u should keep on making more !!!
Actually, now that you mentioned it, the army trying to bomb the Muir Woods was actually touched upon in the prequel book “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes : firestorm”. I highly recommend purchasing it when you get the chance.
Sat through this at around 4am this morning, can’t say I didn’t enjoy every second
13:37 Expelliarmus! Your videos always hit the mark with their perfect blend of humor and wit. Keep up the fantastic work, and I'll keep eagerly awaiting your next masterpiece!
That scene in 30:53 is the exact same sequence Matt Reeves used on The Batman, damnn. Lovin the smooth transition between the two film🖤
I like how in basically every review/recap of the first movie, everyone just calls Tom Felton's character Malfoy because they can't remember his actual name
I've watched like two of this dude videos and the part where he edits a spell from HP in real quick before Malfoy gets electrocuted damn near took me out the chair
I appreciate the feedback 💪
*Fun fact:* The part where Caesar says “NO!” is the most viewed part of the video
That is fun
I rewatched this series a couple weeks ago and absolutely love all 3 movies. It's such good movies that keep you hooked from start to finish. I can't wait till the new one coming out in 2024 (hopefully)
Yeah I'm looking forward to seeing what the next film is like
Just did a rewatch of the series and remembered how hyped I was for them coming out years back. By far one of my favorite personal trilogies and glad matt reeves took over for the 2nd and 3rd movies. In my opinion my favorite is the 2nd then the 1st and 3rd are neck and neck. Will definitely keep this series close to my heart and continue to rewatch in the future!
I think the mute girl could’ve been a parallel to the older films where the humans were mute slaves at first. Maybe her and her offspring as a consequence lose a lot of ability to communicate
Harry & The Hendersons was my favorite childhood movie. Nostalgic trip seeing it here
Thank you for introducing me to the "Operation Market Garden"! Really beautiful piece of music
That makes me really happy, it's an amazing piece of music and the game is iconic for me too.
You should do the original trilogy too! I would’ve watched it immediately after this one.
Medal of honor... that tune unlocked a core memory la
Best movie recap channel on TH-cam! I usually do not enjoy this style of content but your clever writing and personality give a new perspective on films I've already seen😁
Thanks so much for the kind feedback, keeps me inspired to work hard
I'd pay good money for a full spoiler version of these vids, I've never actually gone and watched a movie covered in a video essay like this XD
34:39 OK that’s actually really good point. I laughed so hard when you pointed that out. Just a little goof by the editors and writers not noticing.
Ape together strong will always be a line that lives with me lmao.
it actually surprised me when I looked at the views and didn't see at least over a million. This video has a lot of potential, I'm glad I got to see this video before it breaks big numbers
Thanks! It's not doing too bad for a channel my size and not even been a day yet. We shall see what happens from here....
Jacobs fought for money, Dreyfus fought for his people, Koba fought for himself, and McCullough fought for humanity. Each antagonist had a morality built on what they have went through (apart from Jacob, he wanted just greed and the animal controller's son is an ass).
I love the whole trilogy.
I found Bad Ape to be hilarious and absolutely necessary for a otherwise depressing movie.
You know what Schindler's List needed, Bad Ape.
That movie was such a bummer, we needed Bad Ape to fall out of the watch towers after slipping on a banana peel.
I remember watching this as a kid with my parents and it was terrifying
I know it's not a big accomplishment because loads of other people have done so but Im glad I saw all three ape films in theatres along with the Sam Rami Spiderman trilogy and Dark Knight Trilogy.
Also great review. Your editing is top notch 👌
Good choices!
Thanks 🙂
These are my absolute favourite movies! Matt reeves has been officially established as my all time favourite director, Story Street on yourube does an amazing job analysing the three movies as a whole 💕
R.I.P Caesar.......a true leader
Whoa, the medal of honor frontline music gave me a crazy flood of memories and nostalgia
An iconic game
with this much quality recaps, you deserve more than how many views and subs your getting
"Said no guns." and then pointing the gun at him was bone chilling!
Dude I still get so depressed thinking about the trilogy because I always remember how they ended it but still one of the best trilogies I’ve ever watched in fact I was only a kid when I saw Rise and when Dawn came out my Stepdad now ex stepdad if you will let me watch Dawn when the movie came onto blu ray and for the longest time I didn’t watch War but in like 2019 or 2020 my mom bought me the DVD and i honestly didn’t know that I was missing out on a perfect end to a great trilogy
This trilogy was a masterpiece 10/10
I love this movie series so much and was glad to hear you touch upon it and it's great writings! 💯
Thanks 😀
@@Howesenberg You're welcome mate. That ending of War always gets to me and makes me feel so emotional, it's so powerful. I hope to see more of your reviews in the future my friend! 🙌
37:20 nova doesn’t even know she’s a human, as proven by her asking maurice if she’s an ape. that tells me her father/the guy who ceasar shotgunned didn’t do much more than feed her. her reaction to him getting shotgunned & not rly knowing anything abt anything both show me her life hasn’t been great at all, her crying for luca was just because nobody in her entire life has shown her kindness & care besides these apes
Howsenberg: this is a beautiful message of poetry into a mo-
Me: hehe *monkes*
Had to refresh my memory with this after seen the kingdom trailer. We've come a long way and i really admire how they keep things quite about this franchise's new entries so it doesn't stunt the screenwriting process. Loved every minute watching this 🙌
That’s surely got to be one of the trilogies of all times
13:34 Expelliarmus! 😂😂😂😂 i died at that
the batman, the incredibles, planet of the apes, man michael giacchino is a masterclass
“Another ape colony needs our help,I’ll mark it on your map”
Why do I recognize this reference 🤔
Feels like I'm watching TV while I work. Your doing gods work son keep it up
💪
Planet of the Apes is my favorite movie of all time it's so good. Love this trilogy, and the evolution of Ceasar is brilliant he goes from no talking in Rise to sign language + talking in Dawn and finally he's speaking full sentences in War
Hell yea! another long howesenberg vid :D
Keep it up. I got a massive nostalgia hit from this 😄
It's nice to see someone bring up Micheal Giacchino and MOH: frontline, that game is a masterpiece if for nothing else it's amazing soundtrack, every single piece made for that game has stuck with me through the years.
@@Howesenberg
I don't believe the game is as remembered by the public as much as the other titles in the series or games in its genre, but whenever I find a fan of the game they more often than not, love it vehemently.
I was boutta comment the same thing. Giacchino is a MASTER. I first started paying attention to him when I was watching LOST and noticed the MOH1 Uboat theme playing when the Submarine shows up
Frontline was the shit back in the day for me. European Assault was also great with imo one of the greatest soundtracks in the series.
Oh wow, I hadn't noticed that detail, I'll be listening out for it next time for sure
Dawn is honestly my favourite of the trio and I was surprised to see you didn’t think so highly of it I think rise is the least interesting of all 3
you left out ceasers inner conflict and him dealing with hate the entire movie and trying not to be like koba. it was such a great character arc
I try not to include everything, gotta leave some things for people to discover.
35:35 their shadows getting bigger on a tent means that they are moving away from it and closer to the light source behind them. Or is there something else?
Oh hell yeah this guy did a series I didn't want to fully watch. Subbed
I'm so suprised and grateful how far this channel has grown!!!!
Certainly the best review of this series l've seen. Great work!
Thank you my friend!
