      I think she was already a diver but she did take a few lessons in cave diving so she could go with them- which is pretty cool still.

    Man, when Agnes’ Dad laughed after the reporter asked about her pushing boundaries, you just know he was remembering her as a little girl running ahead of him or doing something dangerous. A pleasant memory. As a Dad, my heart skipped a beat.
    This was a really well done story. 60 Minutes Australia is really good.

    Allison Langdon has done a lot of diving & shark related docs for 60 Minutes including diving outside the cage with Great White sharks. Obviously always with very experienced divers and has always been very calm & relaxed (one of the most important part of safe diving ) Love your channel , Cheers from NZ

      Yes, but some strategies for this are far better than others. If doing what you love and achieving happiness is your goal, it is extremely important to avoid death. Death reduces your total happiness potential more than just about anything. If you are still alive, you can always do something that you love and what makes you happy. If you die, you won’t be doing any of that.

    "she's always wondering what is there, what more could be there.." -her dad
    I kayak a lot. Used to be once a week, now it's every other week. And I've never been to the same place twice.. because I have to continuously see something new. When I kayak a river, I start by paddling upstream (so I can float back to the put-in) and as I go upriver, at some point I have to make the decision to turn around so I can make it back by dark. But that's the hardest part. Because I'm always wondering what is there... what more could be there...

    Just wondering if you guys have you guys seen 13 Lives yet? (Rescue of the kids soccer team in Thailand)
    Do you know how accurate it is?
    I know nothing about cave diving except what I've seen from your videos but I noticed some things which I thought were wrong. They seemed to be kicking like open water divers(The cave divers not the SEALs).
    But was mainly wondering about your thoughts on the method of how they got them out (which I didn't know the full story until I saw the film, thought they'd just guided them out) and how it must have been for the divers. I can't imagine the stress of having to get them out that way. No matter how much experience you might have.

    • @dneill8493
      @dneill8493 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amagab2346 Yeah same. I've watched so many videos with Gus and Woody criticising open water divers going into caves I couldn't stop seeing their kicking style through the film and thinking that that's not how experienced cave divers would swim..Their tanks seem to dangle kind of loose and they seem to rush through new areas with checking their environment. But like I said I have no experience outside of these videos (and some open water diving a fair few years ago). I saw many parts that felt like it was added for dramatic effect but you never know. Ron Howard changed the story A Beautiful Mind but he stuck very close to real events for Apollo 13 (The commentary featuring the real Jim Lovell says that there were only 2 obvious inaccuracies in the spaceflight part of the film. And instead of adding problems for dramatic effect they had to leave a few out or it would have been too unbelievable). I know there will be inaccuracies in 13 Lives but I really want to know how accurate the part where they were bringing the kids out was. I still can't get over the difficulty and responsibility each diver had getting those kids out.

    If she really left behind one of her 2 side mount tanks she took a lot of risk and basically killed herself. In an enviroment like this, exploring with a single tank is extremly risky. Doing this regulary is the base for bad things to happen.
    I don`t understand why the two of you are so harsh with others sometimes and this humble in this case here.
    Because leaving your backup while solo is a violation of many rules, no matter if it`s cave diving, solo diving in general, etc.
    Dives like that often don`t allow room for mistakes. Being on a single tank down and back there is a big one. If that was the case, it was on her and she paid the price.
    May she rest in peace.

    • @Nmzc

    • @finksburg7380
      @finksburg7380 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I also found that interesting. Why not the same evaluation of the event here that they use in other videos. Their rationale behind harsh criticism of some events is they are trying to make the community safer. Some of us are genuinely curious as to what went wrong and could have been preventable. It makes some of their older videos seem petty when you look at certain cases under a different scope. I'm incredibly sorry this woman lost her life, but there are many who lost their life and they had no issue giving their feedback there.

    I've never done cave diving, because I haven't been trained for it. However, I have done my wreck Diver course and dived a few wrecks so I know the potential dangers of diving in an overhead environment, where if anything goes wrong, being able to do an emergency assent is not one of your options!! But, knowing the dangers, knowing the rules and applying those rules is how we mitigate the potential dangers.

I underestimated and with in seconds I silted out the ledge ( I am not cave certified and only done 12 dives). I was like "well this was dumb" and could feel my anxiety rise. I could not turn around so could only reverse myself. I could see nothing but white and debriee. Was like being in fog. Im usually a calm diver but damn this tested me. A learning experience and reminder not always to listen to the call of curiousity. I still think cave diving is a big nope from me 🤣

    Would you have considered this to be an accident that was preventable? It sounds like she was diving alone off a guided line? It seems the information is limited since there were no witnesses. Some say she got disoriented and silted out and then ran out of air. Others suggest she could have been hit by a falling rock and knocked out? I hope it's not a disrespectful question. I've watched all your videos and not leaving the line and diving with a buddy is echo'd throughout each one. It's not something you mentioned here, so I was curious. She seems like a very experienced and accomplished diver.

    As a non-diver who regularly visits the Mt Gambier regionof the world I've looked into a number of these systems wondering how people could br brave enough to enter. I finally understand now, looks amazing to explore there.

    So right off the bat, you have two divers, one of which is on back mounts, and one is sidemounting. Either the cave is tight enough to require sidemount, in which case they'll have to call the dive at the restriction because the backmount diver can't fit, or it doesn't require sidemount, in which case they are unnecessarily complicating their plan by diving as a team with differing equipment configurations. Gas sharing procedures and gas logistics will not be identical per diver. The same situation exists when you have open circuit divers diving in a team with CCR divers. Procedures can't be consistent in mixed teams, which is to assume an unnecessary risk.

    Hi Gus and Woody. I have become a fan of Dive Talk and Diving in general. I'm getting to know Mike, Ed and the guys and gals that are associated with Dive Talk and some of the other Tube Casts like Blue World TV. Yall had a show about the Cave rescue of the Thai football team and their coach, after watching that show I watched the National Geographic documentary, " The Rescue, " the movie on Prime, " 13 Lives," and some other Tube Casts like the one that I just watched the other day called, " 13 Lost," which centered mainly around Ben Reymanents and Maksym Polyjeka. " The Rescue, " left me with the impression that Ben Reymanents and Maksym Polyjeka pretty much gave up way early in the rescue and were pretty much no help. Now they are trying to turn that around and say that the British, Australian and Americans were not much use. Everything that I have watched has not changed my mind even a little, I'm behind Rick Stanton, Richard Harris and their team. I see several shows, casts and movies coming out where everyone, it seems, is trying to make a buck. Yall need to jump on this with both feet to make sure the truth gets out to your subscribers. Thanks for Dive Talk and doing a great job.

    Hey guys this might be a dumb question but do you think that bringing an underwater whistle with you would be a good idea? Theoretically it could help people locate you if you or they are lost for some reason but I don't really know anything about diving besides from your videos so just wanted to get your guys' take on if it would even work or be useful in the slightest! Love your guys channel so much and really appreciate what you guys do!

    Thanks Woody and Gus for your respect to Agnes. I tend to agree with her father, that she came across something unexpected. I'd check with the aboriginal people about the legends, spirits and forces in specific places now. Particularly caves, above or below water. And I once had so much faith in science. Regards

    they just said that she got disorientated & ran out of air... but i thought i saw another video of yours where she tried to put her air tanks thru a tiny crawl thru and accidentally lost hold of it and it floated off and she couldnt get thru the crawl space in time and drowned.. or was that a completely different woman???
