    Have you been to Albania? Are you in Albania? What do you think of Gjirokaster if you have been there? If you haven't been, would you now like to go? Leave a comment down below!
    Sorry the costs never showed up at the end of the video, but the buses, taxi's, coffee, water, castle entrance fee, lunch and drinks and return transportation cost us a grand total of $65 USD. ($90 CAD). That's in total for both of us.

      We have been in Albania since the beginning of February. We’ve spent a week in Tirana, a month in Durres, a month in Vlorë, a week in Ksamil. We arrived in Sarandë at the beginning of last week and will be here until the end of June. We are planning on going to Gjirokaster. Would you recommend going for just a day or do you think it’s feasible to spend a week or so there?

      We've driven around the country twice in a rental car. We've decided to give up on driving and walk or take ground transport as our new way of life. The bus was fun. It's less BS, less cost, and an adventure as you can see! We love it. Taking the bus in a few days to do a Berat adventure, should be epic! Trying to drive a car up there, we did what you did... I feel the pain.

      Absolutely! It's a great place. Actually we met some Canadians here that ironically lived like 3 blocks from us at home, yet we'd never crossed paths.

    I'd love to go to Gjirokaster but I'll be in Sarande in July, which would be challenging, I think. I love to walk but in the baking heat of summer, it may not be a good idea. Also, on a practical level, I'd have to take travel sickness tablets with plenty of water some time before the trip. On arrival I would definitely need the loo. I understand there are public toilets in the old town. The reviews of said toilets are not good.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That could be quite hot then, but I think it's always worth the trip. Public toilets here are not good at all. Having said that, ones in establishments can be hit and miss. Bring wet wipes, there is often no toilet seat and there is no toilet paper.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad you liked it! Yeah the buses are not the best system but it is what it is. If you need to go from one city to another, there are not always frequent options and the bus themselves can be not that great. I'm not very tall and I could barely get my knees in it was worse than the most budget airlines around. But do not be deterred, all of this is just a small issue to deal with to be in such an amazing... amazing country.

      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@trevorvardy9224 that is spot on. We say this all the time. It's rough around the edges and that is what makes it attractive to us. Lots of snooty tourists would probably complain about half the stuff. No bother to us, that is what gives the place charm.

    We only drink Turkish coffee. Much thicker and darker. No milk just sugar if needed.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I see. This is interesting because in the cafe's, it is not Turkish coffee... it is espresso which is not the same thing. Do you make Turkish coffee at home?

    • @annavsmith1
      @annavsmith1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The modern coffee shops serving Espresso were trained in Greece, Immigrants to Greece that made some money as waiters, andd returned back to Albania.
      Also it's ARGYROKASTRO, inhabited by Greek indigenous Ethnic tribes, meaning SilverCastle, in GR. Saranta means 40 in GR, possibly 40 hills??
