I am so glad you finally got to see the castle I was telling you about, you got to see the plane I told you about out there on the grass and you also got to see the one man tank inside the castle has some amazing stuff there that building is awesome glad you got to see it
Thanks John yes was a trip. Will have another video full of the rest of that place.. Still need to piece it together. A few other castles nearby also going to try venture towards soon. Cheers!
lalalala on the stage, that cracked me up Vern. Great video as usual. Argjiro was the name of the woman that sacrificed herself and her child by not falling into the enemy invadors hands. The baby survived. The Castle has never been a happy place as it was used mainly as defence mechanism from locals and invaders used it as well. Many sacrifices in that castle Human wise and animals. Many Ottoman have died in that place from local militias over the centuries. Local main hero of Gjirokaster is Cerciz Topulli. He fought Ottomans late 1800’s and early 1900’s with his small personal army. He assasinated the Sultan’s main man sent to control Gjirokaster and that infiruated the Ottomans. They killed many locals for that to teach not to support the Albanian freedom cause which has never worked lol. Albanian language was banned to be taught in schools since ottomans invaded Albania so people couldn’t write and read. They could speak it amongst themselves but not officially. The dictator who built those bunkers was born there as well.
Thanks for sharing Vincent. It is sad that people were so brutal , it reminds me of how life must have been years ago being ruled from a castle by a king and as a poor peasant you had probably zero rights or voice. That Castle has some demonic energy there, I could feel allot of despair and lack of happiness. When I loaded that video up to TH-cam it said it had used 6.66 Gig that kinda freaked me out! As we know those are numbers for the demonic. That only ever happened one other time in life. Once I felt guided in spirit to take a photo of a church..it was kinda out of view..I felt the need to climb atop a nearby playground slide and take the photo...later I discovered that photo was photo six six 6 that spooked me out! Remember that thing I mentioned in the video the "alter" where some stones were kinda placed on top...well maybe they are also often removed...just sayin... Creepy place.
@@HeyVernTravels that is really something and yes definetly a sign. I wonder if anyone will ever go at night. The Ghosts hunting shows should go there.
The story of the princes throwing herself from the castle walls was very common in those times. Many young Albanian men and women would throw themselves from hills or big heights, so they would not fall at the hands of Ottoman Turks and turn into slaves or sent to Harem.
Wow, I have read about the Japanese doing that, but my first time hearing of Europeans throwing themselves down. The Ottomans were very brutal in those times it seems.
The guy out there was most likely foraging for wild dandelions and chicory. They are very popular in the area. Albanians wash them well, then boil them in salted water for a few minutes and then toss them with lemon juice, garlic and lots of olive oil. Yum!
I think you are totally right Jordan! Todays video concludes the tour there. I think it is the most important video also. It describes the story of the Castle and how the Albanians were ruled and governed with an iron fist. Welcome.
Hey Vern another great video. btw were u the only one visiting the castle that day? what happen to the other people on the bus with u? so u decided u will spend the night at a hostel there? how many days will u be there? its such a nice county with views. castle so awesome also. Also when u do ur videos in the county is there confort rooms there? just curious because in phil its hard to find clean crs. when traveling aroound
Hey A F.... there may have been another visiting the castle while I was there towards the laster part. I had seen a few workers/security guards..and a guy who opened the museums for me as it was an additional $200 LEK $2 USD. Not sure about the others on the bus..maybe the bus went ahead a little further on that route.. Yes spent the one night at a hostel $10 USD then up at 5:30 am to be sure not to miss the next and possibly only morning bus that day. Was just there one day but will probably return for a couple of days to explore the city and shops and surrounding area. The area is just gorgeous in the video ,agreed. I am not sure about the placement of comfort rooms but the placement of coffee shops with comfort rooms seems to be everywhere. This have been mostly clean. Yea the Philippines cr's are usually a rolling disaster...broken toilets...no running water..pail only..
Both grandfathers were of German origin but a DNA test 10 years ago revealed a Spanish origin also. Would be interested to take a new updated test to see where that would go also ;>)
@@HeyVernTravels there is no DNA that belongs to a specific nation... private companies that sell DNA tests and that mix ethnicity or nationality with human DNA they do it for marketing reasons..when the different haplogroups that make up the human dna are generated there were no nationalities, ethnicities, nations ect and concepts of the gender and not only that but even the Indo-European tribes had not yet arrived in Europe at that time ...so to talk about German Spanish Italian or european ect Dna doesn't make any sense...without forgetting that the place and time where these haplogrups are generated are still theories...a true scholar when talks about human dna categorizes it as farmers hunters ect
@@HeyVernTravels If you stay in Gjirokaster for a few days, then a daytrip to Tepelene fortress is recommended. It is smaller and less interesting than Gjirokaster one, but the views might be better. The illyrian ancient town of Bylis is spectacular, but you need your own car to get there.
