Completely made no sense how these guys were supposed to be more powerful than the entire Gotei 13, but couldn't even take one sternritter down. The story really fell apart quickly at this point, especially with all the deus ex machina needed to beat these guys in the end. I mean it doesn't even make sense that Ichigo was running to stop Ywach, when I doubt he could have beaten any of the other Sternritter up there on his own. He had to be saved from Askin. None of the sternritter were beaten singlehandedly, and most of them required a deus ex machina to take down, except for Askin.
It was drastically fixed. And plot hole fixed. The bank ai they added was pretty much a plot hole fix that made me extremely happy. If you didn’t notice, all the ways she described their deaths is how they actually will die and lose against the soul reapers
I hope that they make a statement by Ichibe or just show us that the 0 Division didn't actually lose, or maybe they can just cut straight to ywhach vs Ichibe, and let the remainder of the fight against the roylae guards to cour 3

I think it's wild how Squad 0 made the Sternritter Elite Royal Guards look so weak that Yhwach had to take their powers from his army below just to give them a second chance.
Oetsu Nimaya had the potential to be one of the most visibly impressive and powerful characters in bleach. He created the zanpakto and has at least 5 of them at his disposal.

To be fair to Squad 0, they were fighting the Heart of God, the Left arm of God, the strongest Arch-Angel serving the Son of God and a guy that can turn anything lethal. Though, given how full of themselves they were, there is something poetic about them being so thoroughly crushed, leaving the Gotei 13 that they mocked to fix the mess they left behind.
@@animanco6833 Indeed. The fact that the anime shows that Ichibe knowingly let Yhwach enter the Royal Palace, does seem to imply that he was too overconfident/obsessed with the idea of replacing the old Soul King with a new one.
I hope we not only get to see their fights, but hopefully their bankais too- I get that Kubo may want to save certain reveals for the Hell arc, but by in-world logic there isnt a reason for them not to defend the soul king with their bankais.
I've heard the next couple episodes have massive changes so maybe, if Kubo fixes everything that went wrong, we could have one of the best anime adaptation of all time
The problem with then unleashing bankai is that their defeat will be that much more disappointing when they lose with their bankais active and obviously they must lose plot reasons

Rushing aside it was so likely to symbolize how Soul Society from top to bottom was not ready to face an opponent with utterly ruthless determination who learned lessons from past defeats. When was the last time Zero Squad fought intruders in that gilded cage? It showed how even the 'elite' are vulnerable and apart from rumor and propaganda, are fallible. But I do hope we get an expansion for the anime.
Indeed. The fact that Ichibe has made the whole war seem like a one-sided conflict where the Soul Reapers had no share of the blame for things escalating to such a point, as well as the Soul King having been protected with no issues, is some really scummy stuff. Even Yoruichi, who believes the current order is a necessary evil, was left disgusted and frustrated by how once again, history is left to be written by the so called winners, who didn't even succeed at their supposed job.
@@jrgenvellesen7800 True. The official narrative of the war has been changed to make it look like the Spirit King was protected without any problems. The irony is the even some Squad Zero members clearly did not know what they were guarding, with Shutara expressing shock and then anger when Ichibei revealed the truth, particularly the detail of the King complying with everything the ancestors demanded only for them to gouge and seal him anyways. At least there are those who doubt and question, sometimes that's all you need.
Yeah, I assumed these fights were so brutally short and one sided to drive home exactly how strong Ywatch and the elite guard are. It's not that Squad 0 is weak, it's that the powered up Elite Quincy and Ywatch's The Almighty are just that OP.
I think all was Soul king plan and is obvious that ichibe knew more than what we thought. The zero squad was defeated easily so yhwach could go on with his plan to kill the Soul king. I think the Soul king needed to be replaced and saw in the future this possibility , yhwach as replacement and told ichibe. That is why ichibe doesn't fight back and let yhwach invade the soul palace and kill the SK. Even after ichibe died, he talk with ichigo and he look chill. The zero squad doesn't get involved that much in the war because that was not their role. Ichibe was cautious and prepare Ichigo if the plan doesn't goes as expected.
No, it was just rushed as was the entire rest of the manga was forced to end early. It is not symbolic at all, it's just. Unfortunately, rushed and therefore terrible writing. Nothing about this fight represents symbolism. And it's honestly pure cope to argue that. Squad 0 literally planned it out, so you can't make it seem like they were just ignorant and vulnerable/cocky of the only thing they were ignorant of is yhwach literally having an anti all hax ability that ignores all powers and reality(which is bad writing to even have that power) which I mean isn't really their fault.
Well, even if he did, The Zeros don't seem to give a shit about much of anything until it's literally on their own doorstep. They say as much when they first come down after the first invasion to collect Ichigo and company. Zero Squad guards the Royal Palace. The 13 Squads guard Soul Society.

This key battle needs to be done justice in the anime. Instead of Uryu getting involved, I actually think Haschwalth would be preferable. We’ve already seen a glimpse of his schrift and if his Balance can be extended to assist his comrades it would be a perfect way to help them get the upper hand and eventually the victory over the royal division. This would also save Uryu’s new power for his fight with Haschwalth later or even hopefully Ichigo.
That's actually a cool af idea. Having the zero Squad still going toe to toe after the Schutzstaffel gets powered up (except for Nimaiya rip) and then you have Haschwalt changing the scales of the fight. But definitely not going that route lmao.
This is a cool idea but uryu still needs to do something in these next 3 episodes, he’s one of the main characters of bleach he should absolutely be fighting more than once in this arc

Tommo is hitting on the issue I've personally been having with some of the last episodes of season 2. Mayuri and Ywach both suffer from "I'm too cool" disease. Nothing actually phases them, so nothing they do has any tension. You need moments where a character is actually on the back foot, or hesitating, or even just actually analyzing a situation for their solution or powers to feel earned. Otherwise, it's just another thing they pulled out of a hat because the story has to get somewhere. I really do hope the anime expands on both sides and makes them feel like real characters.
To be fair Giselle was nothing regardless. She/he's been shown to stand back and do nothing while letting the zombies do all the work. So mayuri was gonna dogwalk them with no effort. Kinda funny that Byakuya mentioned taking down the puppeteer with Pepe and it fits with Gizelle just as well
@darknesswave100 that's a storytelling choice. Giselle has tons of weird abilities and attacks we see her use. We never see Mayuri actually figure out how her power works, either in the moment or in flashback. In the scene, he had already figured out a way to defeat her emain ability, Bambietta infected with it, Infected Hitsugaya, and infected Rose+Kensei+Matsumoto before tye fight even started. We're just told that he figured it out and had the perfect contingencies for all of these things that were never foreshadowed to us as viewers, let alone Mayuri himself. It's a convenient storytelling choice that is rampant in this part of the story, and I'm not a fan of that choice.
To be fair Yhwach is visibly shocked, taken aback, and even scared in his fight with Ichibei during several moments. Like when his face ruptured, and when Ichibei turned him into "Black Ant". Iirc he even asked "Is this the end?" and literally got his ass saved by The Almighty.
@hadouradiance3566 let's see how that one goes (I'm anime only, but I've been spoiled on things). I think Tommo makes a great point that the Yamamoto fight was only cheapened with the Lloyd reveal. That was a really cool fight, and if Ywach had just beaten Yamamoto in a brutal fight, I would actually care about Squad Zero avenging him. From a storytelling perspective Ywach has sat around, barely said anything in all of his appearances, and fought Ichigo briefly.
People always bring up how stylish the art is in Bleach, but something I love about Kubo is his impeccable naming sense. The Spanish hollow terminology is awesome but the Quincy have the coldest name for literally everything. Sternritter? Shrift? Volstandish? Shutstoffel? Absurdly fun to say
Not to mention its pretty unique how it used spanish music in the arrancar arcs, which is not common to do. Even today you rarely see animes with such music, maybe for a 1 time gag and its gone but making a whole album/theme around it has not been done.
All i want is for ichibei vs yhwach to be expanded upon as much as possible. In the manga when yhwach reawakened the Almighty ichibei acted like it was just another power up. But with new content in anime ichibei should know yhwach has the Almighty. Hopefully the anime changes it to where the Almighty will scare ichibei since he should know the soul king made the world with those eyes.
İchibei surprised how his powers doesnt work. Reason of this, probably, He sealed Reio in past with same power but he couldnt seal Yhwach. Reio was allowing the seal and didnt use Allmighty's altering future power
For some of the questions regarding the schutzstaffel I guess you could say yhwach let them die and be revived on purpose to "toy" with the royal guard and break their morale. Kind of like Madara toying with the hokage in naruto
I think its safe to say the zero squad have cemented themselves in the upper echelon of shinigami, especially after the season ended on them taking a huge win over the quincy, with the situation seeming hopeless for ywach's forces.

Honestly, I REALLY hope we get to see more from Senjumaru! I love her and her whole vibe and I honestly have to wonder if maybe Reio's soldiers are related to her power, I don't think it's a coincidence that she's the one who seems to command them. My theory is that they're actually basically stuffed animals, beings she wove and sewed and then brought to life with her power over fabrics or is at least puppetting them. My theory is that her Zanpakuto is basically along those lines, that anything she pierces with her needle becomes under her control and for her to puppet as if she's pulling on their strings.
When the sternritter die, their power returns to Yhwach. If they had all died before auschwalen was needed, the power would already have been back in his possession
I wonder if originally Kubo wanted to have a drawn out, brutal battle where The 0 Division just BARELY wins. They even say something like “Oh gosh dang jeez, friendos…if any one of them bois had held on for maybe a minute longer, we most definitely would have done got killed so dang dead.” Thats when U-Haul Bork and his always lookin around nosey-ass smirks menacingly saying, “loljk saw it coming with my special brand special eyes”, does a little dance’n toot, and THEN revives the entire SSquad back at full hp/mp, all spells slots restored, no whammies big hacks to make even bigger ouchies on them already mostly dead Zeroses. Would be a much bigger kick to the morale to Aushwal at that point rather than right after every strupwaffle gets bitch slapped into the floor by just one guy in record speed. Cos then it’s like “…Hey, Killer B? Do that same thing again you literally just did in between me blinking just now” Oh, long story longer: Kubo wanted all the that but had to cut it out due to time/health constraints and…the fact that he kinda already made the same ass-pull in the Yamamoto fight so he was completely fresh out of Loids AND Royds
So to answer your question about Yhawh using auswahlen. It didn’t matter, remember when the sternritter dies the power he grants comes back to him, his ability is to grant people power. So whether everyone died or not doesn’t make a difference cause he’s taking it all back and redistributing it amongst the 4. I’m pretty sure it shows him reacting to when a sternritter dying then getting that power back.(Kang Du and BG9 I think)
This is one of the few times where a retcon would be welcome. As a matter of fact, from this point in the anime forward, there are quiete a few places where a masive deviation from the manga would be best for the series and the fanbase.

Yhwach could simply say a line to his royal guards like "time to take this serious" as he revives them, and it would explain why they were killed so easily and reinforce how heartless Yhwach is (as he'd let his soldiers die and the sternritter below be used as a sacrifice just to mess with his opponents). I feel a way they could redeem zero squad is by having them actually defeat the royal guards or come completely close. Only for uryu to use his antithesis ability to switch the damage/defeat back to zero squad. Giving them a more redeemable lose.
I always got the impression that the first defeat of the Shutzstaffel was a part of the plan, and the Auswahlen could only empower them after they had been struck down, which would explain why Lille, Gerard, and Pernida didn’t use the abilities they have that would’ve made Oetsu’s attacks meaningless. The Auswahlen made them stronger, but it didn’t change their abilities. If not because he knew the Auswahlen was coming, and being stuck down was part of his majesty’s plan, would Lille continue to use Heilig Pfiel after Oetsu split the first one instead of piercing him with the X Axis? Why else would Gerard’s the Miracle not revive him? The only one who really gives the fight full effort is Askin, the new guy who probably doesn’t know the full plan yet.
Only Problem With Your Theory Is That Askin & Robert Already Know That’s Going To Happen. They’re The Only Sternritter That (In The Last Few Episodes) Were Worried About Juha Seeing Them As Worthy.

The only thing that messes up your theory is how the Schutzstaffel completely destroyed the fake Senjumaru unless they knew and are all amazing actors.
Its german dude,Schutz the sch in schutz( protect) is important and not auswahlen its called Auserwählen also a german word not for the chosen ones its a word describing the process of chosing someone or a group of people in german
IMO the way for the anime to make the 3 remaining Squad 0 members lose while going all out against the Royal Guard without revealing too much their abilities (since they have fights later on) is to have Uryu and Jugram join the battle and maybe also have their abilities be really bad matchups (maybe Pernida can take control over Hikifune's cage, for example)
They should just make the first battle between the royal guard and sternritter elite an even or equal fight where both sides have a stalemate so that ywach decides to step in and use auswahlen to empower the elite. In that way, both sides at least get to look good. Another fix that I want to see is Jugram and Gerard's deaths. It was kinda random because Ywach just suddenly decided to auwahlen them just because he felt like it. It should be changed to something like Ichigo manages to get his bankai off and damages Ywach so badly that he needed to use auswahlen to heal himself then proceeds to break Ichigo's bankai. In that way, Ichigo would at least be able to show how strong his new bankai is and would give jugram and gerard's deaths meaning.
I’m excited to know how some characters sound in JP and English, there’s bleach brave soul but I much rather have my first time experience be the anime. Also on the expectations some of us had back in the days were a bit high, sure it was an offscreen one sided slaughter, and Kubo did disappointed in certain aspects but the Zero division loss was a surprise and revelation on the actual threats the royal guards were, and that didn’t disappoint the angels at Yhwach’s beckon call were other worldly and inhuman at a scale and scope we weren’t ready for. Also wonder how the Gotei beat them in the past unless the weren’t members yet. Also I can’t wait for Kubo’s portrait memorials pieces. I don’t have my hopes high for an extended Zero Division fight scene, not to be rude but bleach is still a brand that has to sell, so they’ll prioritize the Bambies over Bazz B and Nanana fight scenes, and probably the only reason Robert got a fight was because it was a Byakuya fight scene. They’ll probably cut some corners and having so many characters fighting at once could make them not animate it. I mean look at the remaining Espada’s Orihime could’ve brought back anyone of them and Kubo clearly had a priority of who to keep alive.
It felt like Ywach left his accompanying Sternritter weaker, just to spring any traps. He never shows any compassion for his comrades, and it feels like they're just tools for him to utilise until they're no longer needed
I don’t think they are going to deviate too far from the manga. Sad because the most disappointing fight was the final one with Ichigo. All his breakthrough, huge power up, unification of all his powers all to be cast aside by a broken, ridiculous ability and then to win with a stupid arrow and a nonsensical old sword that should not exist and contradicts everything that Ichigo just went through. It’s like finally building the ultimate overpowered gun to vanquish the enemy after great perseverance and struggle then to shoot, miss, hit the hanging sign above which breaks free falling down to crush the skull of the enemy. Anticlimactic at its best and disappointingly unfulfilling.
Didn't u hear what simo Urahara said about Kubo? Apparently they will have constant flashbacks of the 1000 year war with the OG captains as the present fights take place. It's apparently going to happen in all the remaining episodes of the zero division

I agree with virtually everything,you say here, this was an exercise in frustration, the off panelling was by far the biggest problem, I almost dropped the manga because of that. I might be armchair psychologist here but Kubo really seems to suffer but analysis paralysis because it feels like he doesn't want to commit to something because he can't use it in a different way later, because it's kinda weird to me we didn't see anyone's Shikai or Bankai with the exception of Ichibei. The auswahlen thing didn't bother me too much. I had the sense he would at least pull the equivalent reishi from the thousand of Soldat down there, if the sternritter were killed As for the fight itself , there is a lot to like as you said but it really wish the structure was different , like I felt they should've fought in their respective domains against a thematic counterpart so Hikifune vs Askin(nutrition vs poison) or Lille vs Oetsu(long range vs melee) with those foundry girls getting involved etc I had a bunch of ideas of how it can be played out Anyway I really want them to flesh this out properly in the anime and yeah the precedent so far is there for Cour 2, and it's a whole three episodes left which is more than enough time to give us something workable.
Regarding the Bankai of the Royal Guard, I would like an approach similar to ichigos true bankai. The Royal guard begin to lose very hard and they want to activate their bankai. When that happens yhwach steps in and kills them because he knows that his Schutzstaffel would lose if he does nothing against the bankais. Only then Ichibei steps in because Ichibei already knows what will happen and how he should act from the soul king. Something like that. But maybe that would be repetetive looking at Ichigo vs Yhwach.
From what I've read from the leaks it looks like kubo is slightly altering things especially bc yhwach isn't going to be doing auswahalen like he does in the manga and leaves uryu and hashwalt alone and oetsu's fight is getting slightly extended too. I'm really excited to see what kubo is going to do from here on out especially if he's changing/altering things and how they happened compared to the manga.
ye, and we are gettings too a flash back on ichibei and yhwach a thousand years ago, the fight of the 0 division vs schutzstaffel will get extend too because the next episode is going to adapt only 4 chapters
@@Risingshinigami00 The additions to the anime so far, Shinji's bankai, Bambi's sailormooning their vollstandigs, and Byakuya instantly killing 3 sternritter with his shikai. I have low expectations for what they have planned for the Zero squad.
Its actually pretty good idea the taking their power to feed the strongest because you can see that Yhwach was influenced by the battle they had previously with the Soul Reapers and sacrificing weaker soldiers for the stronger potential ones makes sense in a battle as a way to obtain bankai capabilities. Also, you forget that the Soul Reapers and Quincies are learning about each other's capabilities so the Royal Guard would likely demolish the majority of Gotei 13 at default but then using other powers is a way to compensate for the lack of Bankai capabilities that double/triple Soul Reapers.
They seriously need to spend the next what 2 episodes or 3 technically with the hour long one really fixing the entire figjt with Ywhach and the Schutztaffel. That fight was an absolute joke in the manga besides the fight with ichibei and Ywhach himself. Each division member needs their own fight. We all know they lose but they went out without so much of a whimper. This is the time to rectify that

None of us know why he didn't get revived. Most likely Kubo never saw him as the same as the other guards so didn't bother to revive him or explain it .
Very coincidentally (and unintentionally), I watched this video just a couple of hours before watching Episode 24 of the TYBW anime - having watched this analysis beforehand was incredibly helpful!
29:06 because Oetsu needs to look impressive. The Sternritter have the massive problem of not being ordered by strength and thus we can't really gauge their strength before a battle. If the Schutzstaffel were each on Sqaud 0's level from the start it would make Squad 0 look weak. Even if Yhwach says "these are my Royal Guard", it just wouldn't look that impressive if Oetsu for example was only capable of fighting one Sternritter when Byakuya destroyed 3 of them a few chapters back. One line from Yhwach is not enough to cement the idea in people's heads that the Schutzstaffel are godly. But you also can't show that they are godly by having them insta-kill the Royal Guard. That would make the Royal Guard look really weak. So Kubo has to take this route of Squad 0 showing what they could do against "normal" Sternritter, only to then be overpowered by the Post-Auswählen Schutzstaffel.
I don't know about that. There are only 3 episodes left, and I predict that episode 13 will be the episode that Ichibei gets defeated. So, they have Chapters 598 - 610 (611?) to cover. 14 (or 15) chapters in 3 episodes. That's a lot to cover. The average is 4.8 chapters/episode. I really doubt the fight would've been majorly improved, unfortunately, but I am VERY open to be proven wrong.
The only problem with having Ywach vs. Yamamoto or the Royal Guard vs. the Zero Division be full, all-out fights is that Kubo would have to reveal the villains' full powers for those fights. And while I don't think that's a big issue, you can't deny that shonen manga logic tells you to keep that a secret longer.
I think you need to understand that being promoted to the Zero division doesn't mean you are stronger than your peers. It's based on contribution. Captain Hikafune is not stronger than Captain Commander Yamamoto. But she created artifical souls, and was recognized for her talents thus promoted. Also you need keep in mind that the line about the "Zero Squad being stronger than the Soul Society" is said by character with limited knowledge and ambiguous as to what he exactly means. Are we talking about the combat power of the 5 Captains of Zero squad? Or are we including all armies under their command?

I hope they add something to the Royal Guard, but ultimately I'm not putting much stock in them. The Schutzstaffel might get a better showing, especially if they change it so Yhwach uses Auswhalen before they go down at all. That said, I saw someone else mention Haschwalth might use The Balance to bring them back while wrecking the Royal Guards, which would be interesting. Of course, this would also be a great time to have Uryu show off The Antithesis, using his powers to single-handedly wipe out the Royal Guard. If there's any chance of him facing off with Ichigo this cour it might make sense to keep his abilities hidden for a bit longer, but there's not much space for it between this point & the death of the Soul King. Having him overwhelm four of the strongest Shinigami would pay off all his hype, not to mention give the audience an idea of what he's really capable of. As for all the scheming, it's important to remember that Yhwach can see the future. He's got time to make plans, so why not? Plus, he wholly benefits from the way things played out (absorbing a Quincy while exhausting Yamamoto & revealing all his tricks), so why would he bother with a real fight? It's a character-defining moment for him
For me I feel like I need more screentime or battle sequence to characters like Kirio, Tenjiro, and Senjumaru. We had Oetsu and honestly he's amazing, but with the three they just seemed like support characters and yes let's give it to Senjumaru for one-shotting a Sternritter but after that she became irrelevant which is sad because she's my favorite of them all. I have a vision in my mind, I hope it happens, that maybe in the anime the moment the elite Sternritters gets revived we also see at least the shikai or even bankai of the zero division because in sense they might have a more interesting "fight" scene rather than just looking like a preventive measure in order for Icihigo to step in
All more time would be dedicated to Gerard getting bigger and bigger because that's how Kubo likes to waste his chapters when the editorial tells him he has to end it right now.
I love bleach but i always have problem with how kubo write climax, tipping the scale almost exclusively through pure shilft of power ( deus ex machina ) rather than situational story telling. felt like every powerup is contrived. but still i love bleach world.
All issues you mentioned basically boil down to Kubo not caring enough lol. He needed to introduce two new teams that in theory are extremely powerful, pitting them against each other, but also while having not much time to fully fledge the fight. This is a recipe for disaster. The schutstaffel should've been introduced earlier in a different way. Then they could've been defeated by squad 0, and sent back to the sereitei by Yuha as punishment, then Yuha himself deals with everyone. It would be a better outcome than "squad zero kills everyone, they're revived, squad zero gets nuked by everyone".
I hope this fight gets a complete makeover. I agree with everything you said but to save this from failing just like in the manga, it has to be entirely diffrent from the moment Nianzol gets killed. If they just add more scenes to the exact same flawed "fight" that completly ignores the Sternritters Schrifts, Im very worried for the rest of the arc
To me Kubo was stuck, if he showed off all the trick of the sternritter elite we wouldnt have the same surprise and intrigue when the gotei 13 fought them, but it also sucks that Kubo was just like fuck it Gerald dies all of a sudden

The easiest answer I can think of to explain this is that it was the final test for Askin's promotion that if everyone got through or there was no one left Ywbach would have skipped the Awchwalen so the others were ordered not yo use their powers until Askin proved himself
THANKYOU for pointing out the clear optic issues involved with half the plot in bleach. Like half the cast knows about or is going to fall for a page turn or plot twist. The fact half of the plans from people wouldn't work unless the plot demanded it does is rather telling.

Completely made no sense how these guys were supposed to be more powerful than the entire Gotei 13, but couldn't even take one sternritter down. The story really fell apart quickly at this point, especially with all the deus ex machina needed to beat these guys in the end. I mean it doesn't even make sense that Ichigo was running to stop Ywach, when I doubt he could have beaten any of the other Sternritter up there on his own. He had to be saved from Askin. None of the sternritter were beaten singlehandedly, and most of them required a deus ex machina to take down, except for Askin.

Oetsu Nimaya had the potential to be one of the most visibly impressive and powerful characters in bleach. He created the zanpakto and has at least 5 of them at his disposal.

I hope we not only get to see their fights, but hopefully their bankais too- I get that Kubo may want to save certain reveals for the Hell arc, but by in-world logic there isnt a reason for them not to defend the soul king with their bankais.
I've heard the next couple episodes have massive changes so maybe, if Kubo fixes everything that went wrong, we could have one of the best anime adaptation of all time

The anime looks like its gearing up to do its first MAJOR change, in how the structure of this battle will happen, a certain quincy will get his own fight. And I am ALL down for some of the leaks that have emerged, ESPECIALLY that flashback.....
Rushing aside it was so likely to symbolize how Soul Society from top to bottom was not ready to face an opponent with utterly ruthless determination who learned lessons from past defeats. When was the last time Zero Squad fought intruders in that gilded cage? It showed how even the 'elite' are vulnerable and apart from rumor and propaganda, are fallible. But I do hope we get an expansion for the anime.

Yeah, I assumed these fights were so brutally short and one sided to drive home exactly how strong Ywatch and the elite guard are. It's not that Squad 0 is weak, it's that the powered up Elite Quincy and Ywatch's The Almighty are just that OP.
I think all was Soul king plan and is obvious that ichibe knew more than what we thought. The zero squad was defeated easily so yhwach could go on with his plan to kill the Soul king. I think the Soul king needed to be replaced and saw in the future this possibility , yhwach as replacement and told ichibe. That is why ichibe doesn't fight back and let yhwach invade the soul palace and kill the SK. Even after ichibe died, he talk with ichigo and he look chill. The zero squad doesn't get involved that much in the war because that was not their role. Ichibe was cautious and prepare Ichigo if the plan doesn't goes as expected.
No, it was just rushed as was the entire rest of the manga was forced to end early. It is not symbolic at all, it's just. Unfortunately, rushed and therefore terrible writing. Nothing about this fight represents symbolism. And it's honestly pure cope to argue that.
Squad 0 literally planned it out, so you can't make it seem like they were just ignorant and vulnerable/cocky of the only thing they were ignorant of is yhwach literally having an anti all hax ability that ignores all powers and reality(which is bad writing to even have that power) which I mean isn't really their fault.

This key battle needs to be done justice in the anime. Instead of Uryu getting involved, I actually think Haschwalth would be preferable. We’ve already seen a glimpse of his schrift and if his Balance can be extended to assist his comrades it would be a perfect way to help them get the upper hand and eventually the victory over the royal division. This would also save Uryu’s new power for his fight with Haschwalth later or even hopefully Ichigo.
That's actually a cool af idea. Having the zero Squad still going toe to toe after the Schutzstaffel gets powered up (except for Nimaiya rip) and then you have Haschwalt changing the scales of the fight. But definitely not going that route lmao.

Tommo is hitting on the issue I've personally been having with some of the last episodes of season 2. Mayuri and Ywach both suffer from "I'm too cool" disease. Nothing actually phases them, so nothing they do has any tension. You need moments where a character is actually on the back foot, or hesitating, or even just actually analyzing a situation for their solution or powers to feel earned. Otherwise, it's just another thing they pulled out of a hat because the story has to get somewhere. I really do hope the anime expands on both sides and makes them feel like real characters.
The pernida fight is basically what you want. Giselle was always supposed to be lightwork for Mayuri
To be fair Giselle was nothing regardless. She/he's been shown to stand back and do nothing while letting the zombies do all the work. So mayuri was gonna dogwalk them with no effort. Kinda funny that Byakuya mentioned taking down the puppeteer with Pepe and it fits with Gizelle just as well
@darknesswave100 that's a storytelling choice. Giselle has tons of weird abilities and attacks we see her use. We never see Mayuri actually figure out how her power works, either in the moment or in flashback. In the scene, he had already figured out a way to defeat her emain ability, Bambietta infected with it, Infected Hitsugaya, and infected Rose+Kensei+Matsumoto before tye fight even started. We're just told that he figured it out and had the perfect contingencies for all of these things that were never foreshadowed to us as viewers, let alone Mayuri himself. It's a convenient storytelling choice that is rampant in this part of the story, and I'm not a fan of that choice.
To be fair Yhwach is visibly shocked, taken aback, and even scared in his fight with Ichibei during several moments. Like when his face ruptured, and when Ichibei turned him into "Black Ant". Iirc he even asked "Is this the end?" and literally got his ass saved by The Almighty.
@hadouradiance3566 let's see how that one goes (I'm anime only, but I've been spoiled on things). I think Tommo makes a great point that the Yamamoto fight was only cheapened with the Lloyd reveal. That was a really cool fight, and if Ywach had just beaten Yamamoto in a brutal fight, I would actually care about Squad Zero avenging him. From a storytelling perspective Ywach has sat around, barely said anything in all of his appearances, and fought Ichigo briefly.
People always bring up how stylish the art is in Bleach, but something I love about Kubo is his impeccable naming sense. The Spanish hollow terminology is awesome but the Quincy have the coldest name for literally everything. Sternritter? Shrift? Volstandish? Shutstoffel? Absurdly fun to say
Not to mention its pretty unique how it used spanish music in the arrancar arcs, which is not common to do. Even today you rarely see animes with such music, maybe for a 1 time gag and its gone but making a whole album/theme around it has not been done.

All i want is for ichibei vs yhwach to be expanded upon as much as possible. In the manga when yhwach reawakened the Almighty ichibei acted like it was just another power up. But with new content in anime ichibei should know yhwach has the Almighty. Hopefully the anime changes it to where the Almighty will scare ichibei since he should know the soul king made the world with those eyes.

İchibei surprised how his powers doesnt work. Reason of this, probably, He sealed Reio in past with same power but he couldnt seal Yhwach. Reio was allowing the seal and didnt use Allmighty's altering future power

For some of the questions regarding the schutzstaffel I guess you could say yhwach let them die and be revived on purpose to "toy" with the royal guard and break their morale. Kind of like Madara toying with the hokage in naruto
I think its safe to say the zero squad have cemented themselves in the upper echelon of shinigami, especially after the season ended on them taking a huge win over the quincy, with the situation seeming hopeless for ywach's forces.

Honestly, I REALLY hope we get to see more from Senjumaru! I love her and her whole vibe and I honestly have to wonder if maybe Reio's soldiers are related to her power, I don't think it's a coincidence that she's the one who seems to command them. My theory is that they're actually basically stuffed animals, beings she wove and sewed and then brought to life with her power over fabrics or is at least puppetting them. My theory is that her Zanpakuto is basically along those lines, that anything she pierces with her needle becomes under her control and for her to puppet as if she's pulling on their strings.

So to answer your question about Yhawh using auswahlen. It didn’t matter, remember when the sternritter dies the power he grants comes back to him, his ability is to grant people power. So whether everyone died or not doesn’t make a difference cause he’s taking it all back and redistributing it amongst the 4. I’m pretty sure it shows him reacting to when a sternritter dying then getting that power back.(Kang Du and BG9 I think)
Honestly, I'd love to see Uryu and Haschwalth use their shrift in tandem to support the schutzstaffel.
This is one of the few times where a retcon would be welcome. As a matter of fact, from this point in the anime forward, there are quiete a few places where a masive deviation from the manga would be best for the series and the fanbase.

Yhwach could simply say a line to his royal guards like "time to take this serious" as he revives them, and it would explain why they were killed so easily and reinforce how heartless Yhwach is (as he'd let his soldiers die and the sternritter below be used as a sacrifice just to mess with his opponents). I feel a way they could redeem zero squad is by having them actually defeat the royal guards or come completely close. Only for uryu to use his antithesis ability to switch the damage/defeat back to zero squad. Giving them a more redeemable lose.

I always got the impression that the first defeat of the Shutzstaffel was a part of the plan, and the Auswahlen could only empower them after they had been struck down, which would explain why Lille, Gerard, and Pernida didn’t use the abilities they have that would’ve made Oetsu’s attacks meaningless. The Auswahlen made them stronger, but it didn’t change their abilities. If not because he knew the Auswahlen was coming, and being stuck down was part of his majesty’s plan, would Lille continue to use Heilig Pfiel after Oetsu split the first one instead of piercing him with the X Axis? Why else would Gerard’s the Miracle not revive him? The only one who really gives the fight full effort is Askin, the new guy who probably doesn’t know the full plan yet.

IMO the way for the anime to make the 3 remaining Squad 0 members lose while going all out against the Royal Guard without revealing too much their abilities (since they have fights later on) is to have Uryu and Jugram join the battle and maybe also have their abilities be really bad matchups (maybe Pernida can take control over Hikifune's cage, for example)

They should just make the first battle between the royal guard and sternritter elite an even or equal fight where both sides have a stalemate so that ywach decides to step in and use auswahlen to empower the elite. In that way, both sides at least get to look good. Another fix that I want to see is Jugram and Gerard's deaths. It was kinda random because Ywach just suddenly decided to auwahlen them just because he felt like it. It should be changed to something like Ichigo manages to get his bankai off and damages Ywach so badly that he needed to use auswahlen to heal himself then proceeds to break Ichigo's bankai. In that way, Ichigo would at least be able to show how strong his new bankai is and would give jugram and gerard's deaths meaning.
i hope the anime gives the zero division a proper fight. i’m not sure how that’d happen, since there ate only 3 episodes left, but one can dream.
I’m excited to know how some characters sound in JP and English, there’s bleach brave soul but I much rather have my first time experience be the anime. Also on the expectations some of us had back in the days were a bit high, sure it was an offscreen one sided slaughter, and Kubo did disappointed in certain aspects but the Zero division loss was a surprise and revelation on the actual threats the royal guards were, and that didn’t disappoint the angels at Yhwach’s beckon call were other worldly and inhuman at a scale and scope we weren’t ready for. Also wonder how the Gotei beat them in the past unless the weren’t members yet.
Also I can’t wait for Kubo’s portrait memorials pieces.
I don’t have my hopes high for an extended Zero Division fight scene, not to be rude but bleach is still a brand that has to sell, so they’ll prioritize the Bambies over Bazz B and Nanana fight scenes, and probably the only reason Robert got a fight was because it was a Byakuya fight scene. They’ll probably cut some corners and having so many characters fighting at once could make them not animate it. I mean look at the remaining Espada’s Orihime could’ve brought back anyone of them and Kubo clearly had a priority of who to keep alive.
It felt like Ywach left his accompanying Sternritter weaker, just to spring any traps. He never shows any compassion for his comrades, and it feels like they're just tools for him to utilise until they're no longer needed

I don’t think they are going to deviate too far from the manga. Sad because the most disappointing fight was the final one with Ichigo. All his breakthrough, huge power up, unification of all his powers all to be cast aside by a broken, ridiculous ability and then to win with a stupid arrow and a nonsensical old sword that should not exist and contradicts everything that Ichigo just went through. It’s like finally building the ultimate overpowered gun to vanquish the enemy after great perseverance and struggle then to shoot, miss, hit the hanging sign above which breaks free falling down to crush the skull of the enemy. Anticlimactic at its best and disappointingly unfulfilling.

Didn't u hear what simo Urahara said about Kubo? Apparently they will have constant flashbacks of the 1000 year war with the OG captains as the present fights take place. It's apparently going to happen in all the remaining episodes of the zero division

I agree with virtually everything,you say here, this was an exercise in frustration, the off panelling was by far the biggest problem, I almost dropped the manga because of that.
I might be armchair psychologist here but Kubo really seems to suffer but analysis paralysis because it feels like he doesn't want to commit to something because he can't use it in a different way later, because it's kinda weird to me we didn't see anyone's Shikai or Bankai with the exception of Ichibei.
The auswahlen thing didn't bother me too much. I had the sense he would at least pull the equivalent reishi from the thousand of Soldat down there, if the sternritter were killed
As for the fight itself , there is a lot to like as you said but it really wish the structure was different , like I felt they should've fought in their respective domains against a thematic counterpart
so Hikifune vs Askin(nutrition vs poison) or Lille vs Oetsu(long range vs melee) with those foundry girls getting involved etc
I had a bunch of ideas of how it can be played out
Anyway I really want them to flesh this out properly in the anime and yeah the precedent so far is there for Cour 2, and it's a whole three episodes left which is more than enough time to give us something workable.
One thing I'm hoping is that Uyru and Haschwalth are involved alot in this battle.
Regarding the Bankai of the Royal Guard, I would like an approach similar to ichigos true bankai. The Royal guard begin to lose very hard and they want to activate their bankai. When that happens yhwach steps in and kills them because he knows that his Schutzstaffel would lose if he does nothing against the bankais. Only then Ichibei steps in because Ichibei already knows what will happen and how he should act from the soul king. Something like that. But maybe that would be repetetive looking at Ichigo vs Yhwach.
From what I've read from the leaks it looks like kubo is slightly altering things especially bc yhwach isn't going to be doing auswahalen like he does in the manga and leaves uryu and hashwalt alone and oetsu's fight is getting slightly extended too. I'm really excited to see what kubo is going to do from here on out especially if he's changing/altering things and how they happened compared to the manga.

@@Risingshinigami00 The additions to the anime so far, Shinji's bankai, Bambi's sailormooning their vollstandigs, and Byakuya instantly killing 3 sternritter with his shikai. I have low expectations for what they have planned for the Zero squad.
Its actually pretty good idea the taking their power to feed the strongest because you can see that Yhwach was influenced by the battle they had previously with the Soul Reapers and sacrificing weaker soldiers for the stronger potential ones makes sense in a battle as a way to obtain bankai capabilities. Also, you forget that the Soul Reapers and Quincies are learning about each other's capabilities so the Royal Guard would likely demolish the majority of Gotei 13 at default but then using other powers is a way to compensate for the lack of Bankai capabilities that double/triple Soul Reapers.
They seriously need to spend the next what 2 episodes or 3 technically with the hour long one really fixing the entire figjt with Ywhach and the Schutztaffel. That fight was an absolute joke in the manga besides the fight with ichibei and Ywhach himself. Each division member needs their own fight. We all know they lose but they went out without so much of a whimper. This is the time to rectify that

None of us know why he didn't get revived. Most likely Kubo never saw him as the same as the other guards so didn't bother to revive him or explain it .
Very coincidentally (and unintentionally), I watched this video just a couple of hours before watching Episode 24 of the TYBW anime - having watched this analysis beforehand was incredibly helpful!
The saddest thing is it looks to me like Pernida's "head" was working as a sheat for Oetsu
29:06 because Oetsu needs to look impressive. The Sternritter have the massive problem of not being ordered by strength and thus we can't really gauge their strength before a battle.
If the Schutzstaffel were each on Sqaud 0's level from the start it would make Squad 0 look weak. Even if Yhwach says "these are my Royal Guard", it just wouldn't look that impressive if Oetsu for example was only capable of fighting one Sternritter when Byakuya destroyed 3 of them a few chapters back.
One line from Yhwach is not enough to cement the idea in people's heads that the Schutzstaffel are godly. But you also can't show that they are godly by having them insta-kill the Royal Guard. That would make the Royal Guard look really weak. So Kubo has to take this route of Squad 0 showing what they could do against "normal" Sternritter, only to then be overpowered by the Post-Auswählen Schutzstaffel.
All I'm asking for is Senjumaru and Ichibe's splash screens :P

I don't know about that. There are only 3 episodes left, and I predict that episode 13 will be the episode that Ichibei gets defeated. So, they have Chapters 598 - 610 (611?) to cover.
14 (or 15) chapters in 3 episodes. That's a lot to cover. The average is 4.8 chapters/episode. I really doubt the fight would've been majorly improved, unfortunately, but I am VERY open to be proven wrong.

The only problem with having Ywach vs. Yamamoto or the Royal Guard vs. the Zero Division be full, all-out fights is that Kubo would have to reveal the villains' full powers for those fights. And while I don't think that's a big issue, you can't deny that shonen manga logic tells you to keep that a secret longer.
I think you need to understand that being promoted to the Zero division doesn't mean you are stronger than your peers. It's based on contribution. Captain Hikafune is not stronger than Captain Commander Yamamoto. But she created artifical souls, and was recognized for her talents thus promoted.
Also you need keep in mind that the line about the "Zero Squad being stronger than the Soul Society" is said by character with limited knowledge and ambiguous as to what he exactly means. Are we talking about the combat power of the 5 Captains of Zero squad? Or are we including all armies under their command?
I think all was Soul king plan and is obvious that ichibe knew more than what we thought. The zero squad was defeated easily so yhwach could go on with his plan to kill the Soul king. I think the Soul king needed to be replaced and saw in the future this possibility , yhwach as replacement and told ichibe. That is why ichibe doesn't fight back and let yhwach invade the soul palace and kill the SK. Even after ichibe died, he talk with ichigo and he look chill. The zero squad doesn't get involved that much in the war because that was not their role. Ichibe was cautious and prepare Ichigo if the plan doesn't goes as expected.
I hope they add something to the Royal Guard, but ultimately I'm not putting much stock in them.
The Schutzstaffel might get a better showing, especially if they change it so Yhwach uses Auswhalen before they go down at all. That said, I saw someone else mention Haschwalth might use The Balance to bring them back while wrecking the Royal Guards, which would be interesting.
Of course, this would also be a great time to have Uryu show off The Antithesis, using his powers to single-handedly wipe out the Royal Guard. If there's any chance of him facing off with Ichigo this cour it might make sense to keep his abilities hidden for a bit longer, but there's not much space for it between this point & the death of the Soul King. Having him overwhelm four of the strongest Shinigami would pay off all his hype, not to mention give the audience an idea of what he's really capable of.
As for all the scheming, it's important to remember that Yhwach can see the future. He's got time to make plans, so why not? Plus, he wholly benefits from the way things played out (absorbing a Quincy while exhausting Yamamoto & revealing all his tricks), so why would he bother with a real fight? It's a character-defining moment for him
For me I feel like I need more screentime or battle sequence to characters like Kirio, Tenjiro, and Senjumaru.
We had Oetsu and honestly he's amazing, but with the three they just seemed like support characters and yes let's give it to Senjumaru for one-shotting a Sternritter but after that she became irrelevant which is sad because she's my favorite of them all. I have a vision in my mind, I hope it happens, that maybe in the anime the moment the elite Sternritters gets revived we also see at least the shikai or even bankai of the zero division because in sense they might have a more interesting "fight" scene rather than just looking like a preventive measure in order for Icihigo to step in
I imagine if Kubo had more time, he would’ve revived the Royal Guard once someone spoke Ichibei’s name. Instead we got what we got.
All more time would be dedicated to Gerard getting bigger and bigger because that's how Kubo likes to waste his chapters when the editorial tells him he has to end it right now.

I love bleach but i always have problem with how kubo write climax, tipping the scale almost exclusively through pure shilft of power ( deus ex machina ) rather than situational story telling. felt like every powerup is contrived. but still i love bleach world.

All issues you mentioned basically boil down to Kubo not caring enough lol. He needed to introduce two new teams that in theory are extremely powerful, pitting them against each other, but also while having not much time to fully fledge the fight. This is a recipe for disaster. The schutstaffel should've been introduced earlier in a different way. Then they could've been defeated by squad 0, and sent back to the sereitei by Yuha as punishment, then Yuha himself deals with everyone. It would be a better outcome than "squad zero kills everyone, they're revived, squad zero gets nuked by everyone".

I hope this fight gets a complete makeover. I agree with everything you said but to save this from failing just like in the manga, it has to be entirely diffrent from the moment Nianzol gets killed. If they just add more scenes to the exact same flawed "fight" that completly ignores the Sternritters Schrifts, Im very worried for the rest of the arc
To me Kubo was stuck, if he showed off all the trick of the sternritter elite we wouldnt have the same surprise and intrigue when the gotei 13 fought them, but it also sucks that Kubo was just like fuck it Gerald dies all of a sudden

I liked the Royd Lloyd twist, personally, it really gave me a sense of Yhwach being a conniving bastard without true honor. But i agree conceptually with what youre saying about the zero division!

This unstable Zanpakuto kills in one hit, doesn't kill Askin in one hit. Wasn't it just unnecassarily sharp and could cut through anything?
The easiest answer I can think of to explain this is that it was the final test for Askin's promotion that if everyone got through or there was no one left Ywbach would have skipped the Awchwalen so the others were ordered not yo use their powers until Askin proved himself
THANKYOU for pointing out the clear optic issues involved with half the plot in bleach. Like half the cast knows about or is going to fall for a page turn or plot twist. The fact half of the plans from people wouldn't work unless the plot demanded it does is rather telling.
