The real problem is overwatch 2s match maker. Blizzard even admitted in the patch notes that if a bad player was on a lose streak the match maker would put them in a team and that is suppose to carry them. I have witnessed this for about 7yrs now told everyone the match maker was forcing wins and loses no one believed me now flats and a lot of pros are finally seeing it. I could literally watch defran or any pro play and i knew every game they would win and every game they would lose before they played their matches it was just so blatently rigged not to mention the terrible game balance,Sojorn is blatently OP same with Soldier. Just seems like blizzard favours certain heroes and then keep other heroes in the dumpster. hopefully Rivals match maker will be better. But out of all the games i have played i have never seen a match maker blatently favour shit players.
I feel absolutely awful when i play 5v5. The steamrolling, counterswapping because once a tank counterswaps you shit becomes borderline unplayable, lack of depth and tank synergy, etc. Ive recently been playing in a 6v6 OW2 workshop with a bunch of people and it is SO much better than anything 5v5. Junkerqueen, Ramattra, and Mauga feel great and synergize so well with the OW1 tanks. Mauga actually has more of an identity when he's an off tank. 6v6 is great.
Thats why I quit IMMEDIATELY playing Overwatch 2 when it released...despite me waiting in a 7hour queue to get in...also despite that I had 5000 hours on ow1. Fu devs.
6v6 was dogsh1t. As a tanker you were always forced to play Rein because the other tanker would always pick Roadhog or something and the barriers were a necessity. As support your only job was to be a healbot, as DPS you couldnt make any plays because they usually had two ways to counter a ultimate (like barrier + matrix). So you just be sitting there, pew pew until the shield breaks for half the match. The queues were always 10min for dps, 1min for tanker and 2min for sup, guess why. They had to make a ticket system where if you played tanker or support you could get a ticket to use and have priority on the queue when playing dps!
Looking at OW1: Imagine having no updates for 2 years and your content creators pumped out content and grinded the game despite the bad balance the game was left on and people still enjoyed the game since the balance only fucked high ranks. Looking at OW2: Within a 1.5 years of constant balance trying to fix the problem they introduced by going to 5v5 they still haven't fixed the game, because it's impossible. Blizzard is so disconnected with their player base, it's unreal. People are leaving left and right, content now is all about how frustrating it has become to play and they still refuse to accept that the main problem is 5v5. Other games like Overwatch are coming out and they all are 6v6. If Blizzard is not going back soon, they will lose a lot of players.
Most 5v5s I can think of are games that already came out. Paladins, for instance, were designed with that in mind. A lot of characters there are similar to ones in OW, but they're better suited, and little systems like cards help balance it further. OW just slapped double life on tanks and called it a day.
The overwatch 2 devs just feel like AI at this point. They have zero communication this the player base outside of content creators. Every time a movement like 6v6 or hero bans gains momentum they just make a roundabout dev blog about 99 reasons they can’t mainly because they are lazy and on top of that they made all of the following worse (ranked, hero balance, game/map pool, the ranked matchmaker) People are not holding blizzard devs or should I say nepobabys accountable
Even as an OverWatch 2 player, I can see the massive gap left in the team that the second tank was supposed to fill. It's so obvious, I don't know why they're so adamant against just fixing the game format. It would make everything else so much easier.
They gotta justify their “OW2” with 5v5. This game is such a downgrade in every aspect compared to OW. Also, Blizzard better swallow their pride because Marvel Rivals is on its way.
5v5 causes people to get burnt out faster than 6v6, because there are just less possible plays in 5v5 and much less variation in game play from match to match.
In 6v6, the “possible plays” were awful to play with and against 90% of the time, there was less individual agency to change the situation, there was even more tantrum throwing than today blaming on teammates, queue times were worse and balancing efforts was never competent. So, same problems as today with 5v5, only some were marginally worse then and some are marginally better. Personally I would go back to 6v6 no role lock, but I’m not going to pretend it wouldn’t need some fundamental fixing to be any better than we have today. The real issues lie elsewhere, the player count stuff is just personal preference.

It’s not harder to learn. 6v6 is “clear the off tank from their angle so you can play the map simulator” supports also just stick their heads up the tanks rear end instead of looking for more proactive plays. He says soj has been meta/a strong pick since she came out. So was ashe. Make it make sense
It wasn't. If you pick Hog & the other Sigma and the opposite side pick Sigma & Orisia....you automatically end up struggling to win. Because your side had less protection, in the open area. If both pick Ball & Hog....you end up getting steamroll because both characters do not give any protection against Widow or any character with range. If we have 6v6 now...someone going to be force to pick Sigma because for sure the other Tank going to pick Hog/Ball/Doom fist/Rein and run off by themselves and not help out.

It's so weird how they refuse to balance suzu any further... they just let easy to use abilites dominate so that the casuals who don't give a fuck anyway have a good time. Also the fact that they buffed sigma's ult to not need line of sight was beyond stupidity. Who thought that was a good idea. Fire that person from the balancing team immediatly because they clearly demonstrated that they don't understand the game. They also constantly tell us how they are learning from their mistakes but they literally make the same exact mistakes every single It's clear the game is being made for casuals. Anybody else is an afterthought.

I've been playing since I was 12, and I have never been this uninterested in playing Overwatch - you are not alone with this, sadly. I was literally grinding tf out of ow1 THROUGH 2022 and still having the TIME OF MY LIFE, there was endless depth back then, therefore infinite replayability, and it was just more enjoyable overall as a whole product, partially because it was a paid game, and polished, and ow2 is free to play, AND RUSHED as a product :/
Beyond all the debate around 5v5 or 6v6, the poor hero kits are wearing me down. No format is gonna fix that feeling when you drop an ult and see enemies be lifted out of it by a petal, or pulled by life grip, or suzu’d to shrug it off, or droned to be kept alive, or rezzed to be brought back to life. Got to stop rewarding the passive players and punishing the proactive ones
I got recommended this video and I just want to say, thank you Paz for making this video and thank you TH-cam for giving this to me! I can relate to this in terms of Apex, only playing a game for so long that it becomes a chore and no longer a “job” or game that you want to put time into. I recently just “quit” apex (it’s more like taking a long break but we can consider it as quitting), been off the game for about a week and never felt better! just know that there’s always other games out there on the horizon and if you ever get burnt out, just take a break, albeit a few weeks, months or a year and see how your favourite game develops. if it becomes bad, don’t bother playing. if it’s good or you miss it, hop back in. it sucks that OW2 isn’t the OW we fell in love with years ago and Sojourn + Kiriko barely changed in the last year and a half is crazy 😂 Wish you nothing but the best of luck Paz!
I still love Overwatch but I can't imagine being a content creator for *any* game not just OW. having to play a game day in day out and make content consistently for it would burn me tf out too.

It’s boring to play against hog/mauga every single game, And if your tank doesn’t play a good tank you simply just lose. I miss tank synergy. I miss ult synergy and big wombo in combos. I miss proper rotation and positions. The game feels too much like cod with some extra steps these days.
And I hate how much skins cost, its bullsht. They make you pay 20$ for a skin you can only see the hands and guns of, especially because when they released pink mercy in overwatch 1 which cost money, it was only 5$ because it was for charity, and they raised so much money. When they bring back the recolorded pink mercy, i bet theyre going to make it cost so much that people wont even get it. And Us who paid for overwatch 1 got nothing in return for that either. I hate it, and i miss 6v6 and i hate hearing people try to manipulate us into thinking we dont miss 6v6, we miss the nostalgia. NO, the game was just better.
I have quited the game before Venture released, i wasn't even interessed anymore in that Hero. The game is unfortunately dead to me... You know what even more? I went back to the PS3 fan servers brought back online old game servers and we have tons of fun, like in the old PS3 days... I highly recommend playing on these servers! It wasnt just 5v5 Boring Low skill characters, horrible hitboxes, imbalanced counter play, poor matchmaking and scrapping most major changes during ow2 development to settle for bandaid balance changes every month killed ow.
forced 50% winrate, predatory monetization, developer lies and deceit killed overwatch 2. Nobody wants to play a game that actively lies to them and tries to take advantage of them. The 5v5 sucks too.

Besides the whole change fore 5v5, the breaking point for me was going back on the PVE. I loved the archive events and originally bought OW thinking it had a campaign like COD

to me, The New Engine is what killing the game. The lag problems aren't even presence back in Overwatch, it only presence itself after Overwatch 2 launch
Real bummer I just started playing this game and you were definitely one of the best sources. One of the only people to do bronze to gm instead of unranked. One of the only people that could help put the game into terms that made sense from someone who has never played a shooter or even a first person perspective game.

The next FPS game to come out that has tanks which are not like RPG/MMO/MOBA games (boring, apparently) and actually duelable will be some smash sensation. People will say “Wow tank gameplay in an FPS is really fun and adds an entire dimension” and sing its praises. Meanwhile Overwatch will be the only game that used to have that but because squandered it completely due to foolish decisions.

It's not 5v5 or 6v6 problem. The problem is the vast majority of O2 players have no damn clue what they're doing. They think the game is all about holding down the W key and button mashing left mouse. They have no games sense, no game knowledge, and practice heroes they're not good at in comp instead of qp. Devs need to have mandatory tutorials for anyone wanting to play comp mode that teaches... - How to group up and why it's important. - How to get that health pack you're probably standing next to and are oblivious of before you die. - How to chose heroes to counter. - How to use cover so you aren't standing out in the lane taking all the bullets from the other team and why both your support aren't going to save you from that onslaught. - How to disengage, fallback, regroup, so you stop feeding the other teams ults and making them stronger. For starters. Until all comp players are on the same page, I don't care if they make it 10v10, it will always be team- dumpsterfire vs team-cybersmurf. I've also heard the algorithm intentionally screws your rank if you don't purchase a battlepass, or when you get into a higher rank. Blizzard/ activision devs are trolls.
I still play Overwatch 2 but I've lost the desire to get better at the game. My biggest issue with the game is that the devs overcorrected the matchmaking to prioritize fast queues which has led to me, platinum trash, being matched against top 500 players in Quick Play multiple times a day. Competitive is the same, which makes it feel even more bs because I have to fight against diamond and masters players just to try and stay in platinum lol.
Sadly overwatch is never going to be that competitive environment that I want anymore. Too many people just don't care in comp or are only there to troll teammates. Everyone is upset with the state of the game, and it shows. As someone who has thousands of hours, its very sad to know I'm only opening the game once a week and soon it won't even be that. But I will always be thankful for the amazing friends I've gained from overwatch ❤
I know what you feel bro. I loved OW so much and the I joy I would get is just indescribable but with this new OW2 I just couldn’t I always felt like something was missing and I wouldn’t get the same joy or the energy rush. I stopped playing this game in January.
I’m not good enough for talk about gameplay or how to fix that aspect, but the esports side was definitely ruined by the big push towards franchising way too soon. It was cool at first since it was a new concept to have Blizzard fund a city-based league in esports, but the extremely strict restrictions and high prices towards making it to Tier 1 bottlenecked its growth during a time when it needed it most. I hope the new open format brings back the hype with more familiar orgs like it was back in the Apex and Eleague days.

I only started playing overwatch when overwatch 2 came out and after i decided to play support i loved it watching your ana vods and tips and tricks to help me get better on her but you definitely helped me get better as whole thank you for everything you’ve done playing this game can’t wait to see where you go from here on out.
I'd argue that Kiriko is a direct result of 5v5. The character was idealized in OW1 (confirmed as early as 2019) but was the first hero created with 5v5 in mind.
i was top 100 from season 1 in overwatch 1 to top 500 season 2 to season 15 and then just chilled my way in masters till ow2 released and after trying ow2 it just killed everything i knew in one update the maps are awful the push the robot is awful the current meta makes goats look like heavenly heaven and as much as all of us complained about ow1 id on god rather have the last hour of ow1 than anything ow2. i played till the very last hour before the update and after that it died. just bring back 6v6

Kiriko definitely killed support for me as well, she does everything and has no weakness but they won't ever nerf her because she's just the poster child for the game and the casuals love her. The game overall is definitely so casual now and lost too much of its depth but we will never get 6v6 back because 5v5 is (probably) better for the casual player, easier to get into, shorter queues etc. Good video and good luck to you moving forward
you can't go back to 6v6 within ow2, code has been modified. they shrunk the maps and model assets. Even if they went 6v6, it may not feel the same as ow1. Sadly ow1's code is gone, there maybe backups, but the public will never see another game like ow1, ever. Word of advice, you make a game like ow1 and it gets 10/10 globally, you don't touch it. rip.
i haven't been playing OW2 for 9 years, but i have played it ever sinnce OW2 launched. I dont know what it is, i have 300 hrs on the game only. it might be because zen and doom are my mains, and even though i won most of my games, i think i might have had burnout from how much i played the game and tried to improve at it. I am now one of the only zen mains who can deal with sombras on my team, and as far as everyone else goes, that's saying something. I've done a lot of stuff in the game, and even though I've done a lot, I'm still only silver 4. It just feels like it wasn't meant to be. In the old rank system i went 5-0 twice, and stayed at silver both times. It was fun while it lasted. but I'm leaving OW2 for now. maybe i'll come back.
I've played since beta. The excitement peaked for me at Season 3 dive and I got into watching Korean overwatch for the first time with teams like Lunatic Hai. Rogue was also great to watch with dive. When brig launched, honestly the game moved into a "reward low skill floor" heroes direction. The game lost its identity as a fast paced, coordinated shooter. It seems to pander more towards the casual queer audience now with each weird character being less skill reliant than the prior one. Kiriko is almost like launch brig. Dive resistant, high dps, almost impossible to punish effectively.
Definitely interested to see what you move on to. Snooker others you've helped me grow in OW a lot. I'm curious what people think support should offer if we took out these abilities that counter the (frankly) dull aoe nigh-instant death ults. Even if you moved these abilities to ults the result is the same, ults countering ults is more balanced but doesn't change the fact your big moment was nullified. And these existed in ow1 wnd 6v6 so it kinda feels like it's probably not the big issue. Kiriko tp needs looking at for sure but then where do you draw the line? Moira fade. Reaper wraith, Mei Ice block, Sombra translocator etc. all get out of jail cards that everyone is seemingly fine with. There's certainly plenty of scope for adjusting swift step though maybe they have bigger fish to fry right now! Super curious what you fill your overwatch hole with though, there are moments when I'm frustrated with the game but the straight run and gun other fps games don't interest me and everything else is like hero-fps-lite, just not quite enough. I hope they can make marvel rivals work, it's not quite there yet has some bigger problems, but OW definitely needs some solid competition to play off of that it just doesn't have at the moment.
I have had so much fun with The Finals recently if you wanted to try another FPS game. Really fun mobility and gadgets, arena destruction gives you a huge skill ceiling to work around, and it’s just absolutely beautiful to look at it.
Same, except i quit season 9 when they took away the kiri 2 tap. I was mostly an ow1 off tank player, and she was basically the replacement off tank. Saving teammates, and setting up plays.
You’re the example of how everyone has different opinions on characters and people shouldn’t throw a fit when a specific character isn’t made exactly how they want it. Idk how people can live a life where they pretend they’re the only person that matters.
The downfall was making it free to play bc as others have mentioned, you cannot create a goood game that caters to everyone…but you can also NOT take a competitive forward game, and transform it into a game for Everyone to play in harmony, together…randomly…without protecting chats. Now, the only thing I would add about Free to play, is that you can have free to play, but the barrier into the competitive play needs to be higher/designed for those who want to “level up”. But also, the Devs needed to acknowledge the differences in the player base (competitive vs casual). Anyone on a whim can play this game, not everyone wants to play nicely others or they choose to reject the team aspect of them game and plays for themselves to “win”.

I stilll play mostly because I set goals for myself. I understand many have dine just about eveything they could do in Overwatch and sadly there is really not much left to do for some. I used to play with you here and there in GM in OW1 and I agree with other comments that it wasn't just 5v5. I could have probably tolerated 5v5 if had a really solid ranked system or if they rapidly addressed issues like counterswapping by at least attempting to mitigate it by removing ult charge retention.. The biggest thing that turned me away from this game is they neglected many aspects of the game and a lot of those things don't have anything to do with 5v5. They just failed on too many fronts and released this slop of a game, it's a laughing stock in the general gaming community for a lot of valid reasons.
When you make a team based game less team oriented, it becomes Overwatch 2 Devs also wanna attract more new players into the community and I guess they also want to rebuild the community from the ground up, replace the OW1 slowly leaving with new one The fact that Paz manages to play OW2 for this long and not think about moving on and rebrand his channel to different contents like other games or become xQc, is very admirable from my perspective

People say goats and double shield comps killed overwatch 1, but they refuse to look at one simple reason what made these comps strong: AoE healing. This is what made the synergy so broken that the devs didn't give a damn about fixing it, so instead they give every overwatch 1 6v6 enjoyer a jester skin for sombra which explains why 5v5 enjoyers will never understand what Blizzard took from us.
If i wanted to sweat it out in a 5v5 hyper competitive game i would rather play siege, cs:go or valorant. Tank is fucking miserable to play and it wont be fixed until 6v6 comes back
Remember as a content creator your job isn’t to play overwatch, your job is to entertain an audience. you can always grow a new audience if they choose overwatch over you😊
i been quit playing. but the best thing about overwatch is when you quit for a couple of weeks or a month and come back. the game feels fresh and a bit fun and you actual perform and play a lot better. ow2 is not the ow1 experience where you should grind the game playing everyday. playing this game everyday dont work out. your going to get burnt out and the game gets worse. but overall 5v5 is delusional for ow. its not fun its not good at all. double tank is one of the most fun experience having a tank buddy. but now all the pressure is on one tank and if your tank flops you lose. also its nothing but a counter fest which is really annoying. but i think ow is up for wakeup call when marvel rivals fully comes out.

It seems like everyone is unhappy or quitting the game including myself. I'm not going to sit here and scream it's because of 5v5. But fact is I played overwatch 1 for 6 years nearly half of those with the game being unsupported and still found the motivation to grind and had fun. I have zero interest or desire to boot the game up now, on the rare occasion I do i end up playing 2 games then decide to do something else with my time. The game feels like it has lost whatever made it special from the beginning, almost soulless.

Imagine having no updates for 2 years and your content creators pumped out content and grinded the game despite the bad balance the game was left on and people still enjoyed the game since the balance only fucked high ranks.
Looking at OW2:
Within a 1.5 years of constant balance trying to fix the problem they introduced by going to 5v5 they still haven't fixed the game, because it's impossible. Blizzard is so disconnected with their player base, it's unreal. People are leaving left and right, content now is all about how frustrating it has become to play and they still refuse to accept that the main problem is 5v5.
Other games like Overwatch are coming out and they all are 6v6. If Blizzard is not going back soon, they will lose a lot of players.
Most 5v5s I can think of are games that already came out.
Paladins, for instance, were designed with that in mind. A lot of characters there are similar to ones in OW, but they're better suited, and little systems like cards help balance it further.
OW just slapped double life on tanks and called it a day.
The overwatch 2 devs just feel like AI at this point. They have zero communication this the player base outside of content creators. Every time a movement like 6v6 or hero bans gains momentum they just make a roundabout dev blog about 99 reasons they can’t mainly because they are lazy and on top of that they made all of the following worse (ranked, hero balance, game/map pool, the ranked matchmaker)

Even as an OverWatch 2 player, I can see the massive gap left in the team that the second tank was supposed to fill.
It's so obvious, I don't know why they're so adamant against just fixing the game format. It would make everything else so much easier.

5v5 causes people to get burnt out faster than 6v6, because there are just less possible plays in 5v5 and much less variation in game play from match to match.

In 6v6, the “possible plays” were awful to play with and against 90% of the time, there was less individual agency to change the situation, there was even more tantrum throwing than today blaming on teammates, queue times were worse and balancing efforts was never competent. So, same problems as today with 5v5, only some were marginally worse then and some are marginally better. Personally I would go back to 6v6 no role lock, but I’m not going to pretend it wouldn’t need some fundamental fixing to be any better than we have today. The real issues lie elsewhere, the player count stuff is just personal preference.

5v5 is killing OW. 6v6 is so much more replayable. Its harder to learn, but more rewarding for learning it.
It’s not harder to learn. 6v6 is “clear the off tank from their angle so you can play the map simulator” supports also just stick their heads up the tanks rear end instead of looking for more proactive plays. He says soj has been meta/a strong pick since she came out. So was ashe. Make it make sense

If you pick Hog & the other Sigma and the opposite side pick Sigma & Orisia....you automatically end up struggling to win.
Because your side had less protection, in the open area.
If both pick Ball & Hog....you end up getting steamroll because both characters do not give any protection against Widow or any character with range.
If we have 6v6 now...someone going to be force to pick Sigma because for sure the other Tank going to pick Hog/Ball/Doom fist/Rein and run off by themselves and not help out.

It's so weird how they refuse to balance suzu any further... they just let easy to use abilites dominate so that the casuals who don't give a fuck anyway have a good time.
Also the fact that they buffed sigma's ult to not need line of sight was beyond stupidity. Who thought that was a good idea. Fire that person from the balancing team immediatly because they clearly demonstrated that they don't understand the game.

I was literally grinding tf out of ow1 THROUGH 2022 and still having the TIME OF MY LIFE, there was endless depth back then, therefore infinite replayability, and it was just more enjoyable overall as a whole product, partially because it was a paid game, and polished, and ow2 is free to play, AND RUSHED as a product :/
Beyond all the debate around 5v5 or 6v6, the poor hero kits are wearing me down. No format is gonna fix that feeling when you drop an ult and see enemies be lifted out of it by a petal, or pulled by life grip, or suzu’d to shrug it off, or droned to be kept alive, or rezzed to be brought back to life.

I got recommended this video and I just want to say, thank you Paz for making this video and thank you TH-cam for giving this to me! I can relate to this in terms of Apex, only playing a game for so long that it becomes a chore and no longer a “job” or game that you want to put time into. I recently just “quit” apex (it’s more like taking a long break but we can consider it as quitting), been off the game for about a week and never felt better! just know that there’s always other games out there on the horizon and if you ever get burnt out, just take a break, albeit a few weeks, months or a year and see how your favourite game develops. if it becomes bad, don’t bother playing. if it’s good or you miss it, hop back in. it sucks that OW2 isn’t the OW we fell in love with years ago and Sojourn + Kiriko barely changed in the last year and a half is crazy 😂 Wish you nothing but the best of luck Paz!
I still love Overwatch but I can't imagine being a content creator for *any* game not just OW. having to play a game day in day out and make content consistently for it would burn me tf out too.

It’s boring to play against hog/mauga every single game, And if your tank doesn’t play a good tank you simply just lose. I miss tank synergy. I miss ult synergy and big wombo in combos. I miss proper rotation and positions. The game feels too much like cod with some extra steps these days.

And I hate how much skins cost, its bullsht. They make you pay 20$ for a skin you can only see the hands and guns of, especially because when they released pink mercy in overwatch 1 which cost money, it was only 5$ because it was for charity, and they raised so much money. When they bring back the recolorded pink mercy, i bet theyre going to make it cost so much that people wont even get it. And Us who paid for overwatch 1 got nothing in return for that either. I have quited the game before Venture released, i wasn't even interessed anymore in that Hero. The game is unfortunately dead to me...

Boring Low skill characters, horrible hitboxes, imbalanced counter play, poor matchmaking and scrapping most major changes during ow2 development to settle for bandaid balance changes every month killed ow.
forced 50% winrate, predatory monetization, developer lies and deceit killed overwatch 2. Nobody wants to play a game that actively lies to them and tries to take advantage of them. The 5v5 sucks too.

Besides the whole change fore 5v5, the breaking point for me was going back on the PVE. I loved the archive events and originally bought OW thinking it had a campaign like COD

The next FPS game to come out that has tanks which are not like RPG/MMO/MOBA games (boring, apparently) and actually duelable will be some smash sensation. People will say “Wow tank gameplay in an FPS is really fun and adds an entire dimension” and sing its praises. Meanwhile Overwatch will be the only game that used to have that but because squandered it completely due to foolish decisions.

It's not 5v5 or 6v6 problem.
The problem is the vast majority of O2 players have no damn clue what they're doing. They think the game is all about holding down the W key and button mashing left mouse. They have no games sense, no game knowledge, and practice heroes they're not good at in comp instead of qp.
Devs need to have mandatory tutorials for anyone wanting to play comp mode that teaches...
- How to group up and why it's important.
- How to get that health pack you're probably standing next to and are oblivious of before you die.
- How to chose heroes to counter.
- How to use cover so you aren't standing out in the lane taking all the bullets from the other team and why both your support aren't going to save you from that onslaught.
- How to disengage, fallback, regroup, so you stop feeding the other teams ults and making them stronger.
For starters. Until all comp players are on the same page, I don't care if they make it 10v10, it will always be team- dumpsterfire vs team-cybersmurf.
I've also heard the algorithm intentionally screws your rank if you don't purchase a battlepass, or when you get into a higher rank. Blizzard/ activision devs are trolls.

I still play Overwatch 2 but I've lost the desire to get better at the game. My biggest issue with the game is that the devs overcorrected the matchmaking to prioritize fast queues which has led to me, platinum trash, being matched against top 500 players in Quick Play multiple times a day.
Competitive is the same, which makes it feel even more bs because I have to fight against diamond and masters players just to try and stay in platinum lol.

Sadly overwatch is never going to be that competitive environment that I want anymore. Too many people just don't care in comp or are only there to troll teammates. Everyone is upset with the state of the game, and it shows. As someone who has thousands of hours, its very sad to know I'm only opening the game once a week and soon it won't even be that. But I will always be thankful for the amazing friends I've gained from overwatch ❤
I know what you feel bro. I loved OW so much and the I joy I would get is just indescribable but with this new OW2 I just couldn’t I always felt like something was missing and I wouldn’t get the same joy or the energy rush. I stopped playing this game in January.

I’m not good enough for talk about gameplay or how to fix that aspect, but the esports side was definitely ruined by the big push towards franchising way too soon. It was cool at first since it was a new concept to have Blizzard fund a city-based league in esports, but the extremely strict restrictions and high prices towards making it to Tier 1 bottlenecked its growth during a time when it needed it most. I hope the new open format brings back the hype with more familiar orgs like it was back in the Apex and Eleague days.

Kiriko feels absolutely awful to play against. What the hell were they thinking? About to quit too.
I'd argue that Kiriko is a direct result of 5v5.
The character was idealized in OW1 (confirmed as early as 2019) but was the first hero created with 5v5 in mind.
i was top 100 from season 1 in overwatch 1 to top 500 season 2 to season 15 and then just chilled my way in masters till ow2 released and after trying ow2 it just killed everything i knew in one update the maps are awful the push the robot is awful the current meta makes goats look like heavenly heaven and as much as all of us complained about ow1 id on god rather have the last hour of ow1 than anything ow2. i played till the very last hour before the update and after that it died. just bring back 6v6

Kiriko definitely killed support for me as well, she does everything and has no weakness but they won't ever nerf her because she's just the poster child for the game and the casuals love her. The game overall is definitely so casual now and lost too much of its depth but we will never get 6v6 back because 5v5 is (probably) better for the casual player, easier to get into, shorter queues etc. Good video and good luck to you moving forward

Your 100% right about the character balance favoritism, everytime kiriko or sojourn is nerfed they also receive compensation buffs.
you can't go back to 6v6 within ow2, code has been modified. they shrunk the maps and model assets. Even if they went 6v6, it may not feel the same as ow1. Sadly ow1's code is gone, there maybe backups, but the public will never see another game like ow1, ever. Word of advice, you make a game like ow1 and it gets 10/10 globally, you don't touch it. rip.
i haven't been playing OW2 for 9 years, but i have played it ever sinnce OW2 launched. I dont know what it is, i have 300 hrs on the game only. it might be because zen and doom are my mains, and even though i won most of my games, i think i might have had burnout from how much i played the game and tried to improve at it. I am now one of the only zen mains who can deal with sombras on my team, and as far as everyone else goes, that's saying something. I've done a lot of stuff in the game, and even though I've done a lot, I'm still only silver 4. It just feels like it wasn't meant to be. In the old rank system i went 5-0 twice, and stayed at silver both times. It was fun while it lasted. but I'm leaving OW2 for now. maybe i'll come back.
They promote braindead heroes like Kiriko and Illari, but shit on skill ones like Genji and Cassidy.
I've played since beta. The excitement peaked for me at Season 3 dive and I got into watching Korean overwatch for the first time with teams like Lunatic Hai. Rogue was also great to watch with dive.
When brig launched, honestly the game moved into a "reward low skill floor" heroes direction. The game lost its identity as a fast paced, coordinated shooter. It seems to pander more towards the casual queer audience now with each weird character being less skill reliant than the prior one.
Kiriko is almost like launch brig. Dive resistant, high dps, almost impossible to punish effectively.
Definitely interested to see what you move on to. Snooker others you've helped me grow in OW a lot.
I'm curious what people think support should offer if we took out these abilities that counter the (frankly) dull aoe nigh-instant death ults. Even if you moved these abilities to ults the result is the same, ults countering ults is more balanced but doesn't change the fact your big moment was nullified. And these existed in ow1 wnd 6v6 so it kinda feels like it's probably not the big issue.
Kiriko tp needs looking at for sure but then where do you draw the line? Moira fade. Reaper wraith, Mei Ice block, Sombra translocator etc. all get out of jail cards that everyone is seemingly fine with. There's certainly plenty of scope for adjusting swift step though maybe they have bigger fish to fry right now!
Super curious what you fill your overwatch hole with though, there are moments when I'm frustrated with the game but the straight run and gun other fps games don't interest me and everything else is like hero-fps-lite, just not quite enough. I hope they can make marvel rivals work, it's not quite there yet has some bigger problems, but OW definitely needs some solid competition to play off of that it just doesn't have at the moment.

I have had so much fun with The Finals recently if you wanted to try another FPS game. Really fun mobility and gadgets, arena destruction gives you a huge skill ceiling to work around, and it’s just absolutely beautiful to look at it.

I was mostly an ow1 off tank player, and she was basically the replacement off tank. Saving teammates, and setting up plays.
You’re the example of how everyone has different opinions on characters and people shouldn’t throw a fit when a specific character isn’t made exactly how they want it. Idk how people can live a life where they pretend they’re the only person that matters.

The downfall was making it free to play bc as others have mentioned, you cannot create a goood game that caters to everyone…but you can also NOT take a competitive forward game, and transform it into a game for Everyone to play in harmony, together…randomly…without protecting chats.
Now, the only thing I would add about Free to play, is that you can have free to play, but the barrier into the competitive play needs to be higher/designed for those who want to “level up”. But also, the Devs needed to acknowledge the differences in the player base (competitive vs casual).
Anyone on a whim can play this game, not everyone wants to play nicely others or they choose to reject the team aspect of them game and plays for themselves to “win”.

I used to play with you here and there in GM in OW1 and I agree with other comments that it wasn't just 5v5. I could have probably tolerated 5v5 if had a really solid ranked system or if they rapidly addressed issues like counterswapping by at least attempting to mitigate it by removing ult charge retention.. The biggest thing that turned me away from this game is they neglected many aspects of the game and a lot of those things don't have anything to do with 5v5. They just failed on too many fronts and released this slop of a game, it's a laughing stock in the general gaming community for a lot of valid reasons.
When you make a team based game less team oriented, it becomes Overwatch 2
Devs also wanna attract more new players into the community and I guess they also want to rebuild the community from the ground up, replace the OW1 slowly leaving with new one

I hate that companies can make obvious mistakes that the community hates and they won’t walk back their errors.
People say goats and double shield comps killed overwatch 1, but they refuse to look at one simple reason what made these comps strong: AoE healing. This is what made the synergy so broken that the devs didn't give a damn about fixing it, so instead they give every overwatch 1 6v6 enjoyer a jester skin for sombra which explains why 5v5 enjoyers will never understand what Blizzard took from us.

i been quit playing. but the best thing about overwatch is when you quit for a couple of weeks or a month and come back. the game feels fresh and a bit fun and you actual perform and play a lot better. ow2 is not the ow1 experience where you should grind the game playing everyday. playing this game everyday dont work out. your going to get burnt out and the game gets worse. but overall 5v5 is delusional for ow. its not fun its not good at all. double tank is one of the most fun experience having a tank buddy. but now all the pressure is on one tank and if your tank flops you lose. also its nothing but a counter fest which is really annoying. but i think ow is up for wakeup call when marvel rivals fully comes out.

It seems like everyone is unhappy or quitting the game including myself. I'm not going to sit here and scream it's because of 5v5. But fact is I played overwatch 1 for 6 years nearly half of those with the game being unsupported and still found the motivation to grind and had fun. I have zero interest or desire to boot the game up now, on the rare occasion I do i end up playing 2 games then decide to do something else with my time. The game feels like it has lost whatever made it special from the beginning, almost soulless.
I wish I never quit, because now I'm back I can't let go.
I love this game. I’m never quitting. Everyone else can go i do not care.
