@xythiera7255 there is a war, between pro 5v5 and pro 6v6 people. The amount of popular videos of sides going after eachother is pretty high. I agree with you, 5v5 isn't working. OW1 was such a unique experience, you could play one character in OW1 for years and never get bored cause there were so many variables and situations to get into . Even with characters that have a simple kit, it allowed people who didn’t even have an fps background to express their skill in more ways than just raw aiming . OW2 killed this concept in attempt to make the game easy for everyone .

I feel ya on the love and loss of OW1. OW2 felt...off for some reason. It wasn't until recently I put the pieces together. Without that 2nd tank, every roll has to be a "shooter" more. I was a support main and it was nice being able to contribute to the match without having to aim well like you said. You can still get that feeling a little with Mercy in OW2, but everything else feels more FPS driven which I'm terrible at. OW1 was nice because you could still contribute to your team without being a McShooty master.

The very same homies I played with for 5 years in OW1 quit 1 by 1 in OW2. I hate the fact they removed borders, end cards, rank icon, 1 tank and the FOMO shop on rotation to get a skin with real life currency. We still don't even have weapon inspects when they showed it off all the way back in OW2 trailers. They killed the promised PVE which was the biggest selling point for OW2. I genuinely don't know how the developers think that this game is even remotely okay. I have nearly 1,000 hours in Overwatch 2 and a good chunk of that is me just gritting my teeth and hoping that it gets better.
The game I loved died a few seasons into It's lifetime, and even then it is clearly worse than the original. Even I can see that.
Anyways, my life has dramatically improved since I stopped playing. I still think about the game nearly every day, and I'm genuinely sad that I can't play anymore.

I hate OW but my timeline of getting there happened so much faster. I started playing OW2 around April 2023 after Lifeweaver was released. I had always been interested in the game back during its release but I heard how toxic it was and was scared to try but with OW2 being free to play and PVE being in the works I was excited to try.
And then not only did I find out that PVE wasn't happening but Lifeweaver was considered a throw pick for awhile and even today isn't considered that great competitively and people still constantly make videos about how bad he is. He's the hero I joined the game to play because I liked his kit so much. I have hundreds of hours on him, more than any other character and yet just bc of how he's valued and his kit I can't even feel comfortable playing competitive without being told Im throwing.
As such I ended up playing characters I was unfamiliar with in the beginning of my competitive journey and as a result I fell in rank really hard. I slowly climbed back up but I was so discouraged I just gave up comp immediately. What's the point of playing something if I cant even play the characters I like?
I have long since muted all chats aside from group & whispers and I exclusively play QP now. But when a game feels like this what's the point of playing it? I've resolved to play through the Battle Pass on each new season but other than that I don't play. I've gone back to my WoW roots and tbh it's so liberating. Dying in WoW for the first few times actually gave me anxiety and I realized it was bc of OW. Mount farming and daily quests are so much more relaxing lol

Remembering Overwatch 1 feels like I’m remembering a close friend that I’ll never see again. I made so many incredible memories and it was genuinely the most fun game I have ever played. Of course, it had a it’s fair share of issues, but the community and fluid nature of the game encouraged teamwork and communication in a way I had never experienced before and have failed to find since. Elements of this still exist in Overwatch 2, but it just feels like a neutered version of the game I fell in love with.
In retrospect, I don’t think the people making decisions about the game really ever understood what made it so great. It really bums me out that the game I fell in love with only exists alongside the memories I made in it - in the past and in my memory.

I dunno, I just really miss how scrappy old Overwatch was compared to this. Where it felt like you actually entered a back and forth instead of a definite win or loss.
Old Overwatch characters were designed around having a high risk and high reward. Genji, Reaper, Winston, Tracer, you just commit to what you're doing by entering the fray and doing the best you can to sync up what enemies you fight.
But OW2 is catering to this very boring playstyle where characters get a very inordinate amount of leverage for the amount of engagement they need. Widow can one shot you from whole maps away. All ana has to do is sit in her backline and no one can touch her. They get rewarded for minimal interaction.
It's unfun to play WITH too.
Weaver waits around and opens himself up to flank. Ashe will tunnel vision opening themselves up to flank. I just want to engage. And if I decide to play the game, I'm at a net disadvantage cause the enemy has less to target.

And 5v5ers will say that 6v6 wasn't good and all of us have nostalgia and rose tinted glasses for ow1, the problem isn't nostalgia, the problem is the format that forces you to counterswap constantly, as Flats said, team 4 originally mentioned that they wanted to keep the option to main a character (because they knew there were a lot of otp's), then, when they weren't able to maintain that condition, they changed the argument that it was intended for players to switch characters.
Team 4 can't accept their errors, they will do whatever they could to simply not accept that they messed up, an example of this is when they ignored the community asking for 6v6 (subject that luckily seems that they are going to talk about sooner or later).
In conclussion, what made overwatch feel so unique was the strong and weak points of every character that in a symmetric format (6v6) each one could cover the weakness of the other, by removing a tank, now the game forces you to focus the weakness of the remaining one since they buffed them so hard that there's no other option, then with the new format a lot of other issues have occurred also, and the solution for blizz was to buff other roles in an infinite cycle of stubbornness against accepting that they did something wrong in the first place.
New players might like the game at it's current state (since the only thing you need to do is to know each character's counter and the skill level has dropped a lot (bigger hitboxes and hitscans having more angles caused by the missing tank)), but for ow1 veterans the game feels boring.
At this point if there was an option to play 6v6 even with double shields and longer queues, I'd gladly take that 100 times than playing a single match of counterwatch.

12:10 this is so so agreable, i really miss overwatch 1, sure lots of cc, shield etc but there was so many thing to learn, and overwatch was my comfort game and same goes to mercy, her movement overall was so smooth, i wished i had more time and chance to learn it better back then, and big part also the fact that every celebration there is skins you can get for free essentially if you have enough coin, now you have to play, it sucks.
everything pretty locked behind walls, "new game" but they started bringing back cass flashbang and trying to make rein shield more tankier, like you might as well open back overwatch 1, all they do is lie and lie to make you come back. stressing over stats especially with characters like ana and kiriko is so relatable, i was initially gonna reach gold.. was close in overwatch 1 but didnt happen, i dont know im kinda yapping sorry, just feel unnecessary to hype ow2 anymore, with everything they didnt do.. plus in ow1 you can play qp and actually have fun, where if you see now, its just too many sweat, toxicity at its max, you cant even have place to practice hero you want without getting dump with bucket of crap..

OMG BRING BACK LOOTBOXES LIKE PLEASE. The game was "pay to win" at some point when you had to buy the bp to unlock the new broken hero that recently released too it was ugh. I can relate to this video so much. It actually touched my heartstrings, because I like you find it so hard to let go. I've "quit" Overwatch several times through the years even with OW1 but something always brought me back. It's this thought that one day I might feel that excitement like I used to back in 2016 and fomo with the skins. A part of me is still holding out that 6v6 will return and that I'll be happy I invested my time and money if or when Overwatch returns to those glory days. I wanna play Mercy and Kiriko too, but feel like I'm at a disadvantage so often when I meet a Bap, Lucio or Ana. You know the game is in a bad place when you are "forced" to play heroes you don't want/like just to keep up with the rest of the players. As a support main what I always loved was feeling like I could lift my teammates, enable them to pop off. It just feels great when you get that perfect rez or ultimate and turn the tides of the team fight. I've always gravitated towards supports in games, and I think it's for this reason. The fact that you know they really appreciate having you in their team, that you got their back. When they fall, you are there to lift them back up.
Also thank you for the Chrono Cross music

you thought you were addicted to Overwatch?? hahaha, just wait until ER clicks for you! now *thats* a game worth playing!!
gotta say tho, i felt that sentiment of yours where you said you lost all passion to play, let alone to improve. the stress of rank, the stats, dealing with toxicity and just general bullshit when life already has enough of that? yeah... it wasn’t fun, wasn’t worth it. it’s hard to find motivation when the game is unfun, unbalanced, counter-dependant, boring and unrewarding. none of my OG friends play anymore, and just the way it plays feels like an uncanny ghost of itself designed to waste my time and money (WHICH IT DID! we all paid for OW1 and they just straight up deleted our game like WTAF???)
…when i realised it would never be the same again, i tried to focus on having fun - until THAT feeling went away aswell, and i just could not find a genuine reason to play it at all after that. none. nothing. that shit is straight up mentally damaging now i swear lol
if you want to find passion for a game again, i promise you Elden Ring and other soulslikes are the experience you’re looking for. they are literal works of art. beautiful craftsmanship, a developer with a passion and an original team with a vision?!? never has a game made me feel like that. i really could go on forever but i shouldnt spoil. you’ll know what i mean when it hits you ;D

When I came back, I had no motivation to play or climb. It feels like a chore I'm forced to do. I don't know if it's the inferior ranked system, terrible reward incentives for play time or the gameplay loop changing, it's probably a combination of everything. I just stopped caring. I started playing OW in late 2016 and all throughout 2017, 2018 and half of 2019 I played it religiously. I was utterly in love with this game and the characters. I mained tracer, widow, zen and dva. I quit in 2019 because I just wasn't allowed to play the game by the devs OR the people I matched with.
I stopped playing tracer (even before dmg stats were visible to everyone LOL) people still cried about me not doing anything for the team even though I was a nightmare for healers in the backline.
I also stopped playing widow because over time the double shield meta became more and more widespread and it got to a point where it seemed like even the most casual team in quickplay full of average joes was playing double shield and for a player like me who spent hundreds of hours practicing my aim, for some casual to just hold right click and immediately make all those hours irrelevant was infuriating. Sure, I could still get some highlights here and there and win a few rounds for my team, but it wasn't nearly as consistent as before at all.
Playing dva I was always the off tank and unless I was eating ults, I was once again told to switch. I'm 100000% sure these were all idiots that were echoing whatever their favorite youtuber or pro player said about dva. I was constantly putting so much pressure as dva and saving my teammates with def matrix but in the end I always felt unappreciated. It's funny that most of my encouragement from the game was actually negative and toxic in nature because it wasn't my teammates who told me I was playing good, it was the enemy team raging and seething over me. When I was doing good, my team almost never acknowledged it and just focused on the one genji that popped off twice during the match, or the pocket heals.
My will to play continued to dwindle over time even though my love for the game was still there. (muting players worked wonders at first for my mental heatlh, but then the man children on my team would start throwing because of it)
Over time me and the friend I used to play with were constantly uttering the words "let's play quickplay to get to play whoever we want" and when I noticed this is when I knew things had been wrong for a long while. Shortly after that, after a couple of "relapses" I quit and started playing monster hunter (which became my new passion) and I suddenly felt alive again. Because of this I knew I was never going back to overwatch.
When OW2 released I decided to give it a try. I thought "hey, maybe I can get to play widow now that there's only 1 tank" but oh man the game felt so off. I stuck with it for a week but I really wasn't enjoying my time with it despite getting to play widow for the first time in years. Since it's release... well... YOU know the rest of the story. Having the game I loved constantly push me away little by little by the devs themselves and the community was sad, and to come back for a week after OW2 only to see it be a shell of it's former self was even more sad. I'll always miss 2016 - 2018 overwatch :(

    • @feenixsarchive
      @feenixsarchive  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Ugh I've seen those experiences (from former teammates or my friends) of being told to switch off even though they're leaving an impact on the enemy team and making them upset, but the team just puts the blame on them anyways. It's definitely been tough with the game sucking out people's enjoyment of playing and on top of the toxic community, but taking a step away from it does wonders fs :) I'm glad you found a new passion for monster hunter!

I think the best way I can put it is that overwatch 2 just feels directionless and hollow with random change for the sake of change.
Directionless in the sense of pointless character redesigns, time of day changes that ruin art direction, how uncohesive hero select animations seem now, the new ranked system, 5v5 and game direction as a whole.
Hollow in how the monitization changes removed basically all forms of progression, the loss of PVE and any progression of lore, skins for the sake of a battle pass theme instead of things that fit the character.
I know most of these things are "trivial" but the game has slowly ship of Theseus's itself into a compelelty different experience I want no part in. I guess that's what happens when most of the old dev team leaves blizzard.
Comparing it to a similar shooter I love and still do Splatoon and how that series progressed foreward while maintaining the soul of the series makes me sad to see the state of OW.

I can really relate to the idea of the characters you play holding you back in certain situations but not wanting to play the stronger characters because you simply don't find them fun.
The way you described it as a drag is exactly how I feel about that dynamic with OW2. A game is meant to be fun and when part of the games premise is pick whoever character you want to play out of this large roster, and then you do that only for the game scenario to basically say "well actually you can't choose that character this match if you want to be able to play the game," it just feels awful.

      @feenixsarchive  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you for sharing your thoughts :) The whole thing where you are inclined to play a certain pool of characters in order to be "able to play" and also win (counter swapping for instance) just takes away how vast the hero roster actually is. And I'm still friends with those people today. But i found the game, not fun anymore. I thought it would get better when they released the PVE stuff because I was really looking forward to that. But then they said they weren't gonna do it anymore, so it made me really mad. So I just stopped playing it, and I still haven't played it since. And then they brought 6 V6 back. Yeah, that's cool. I haven’t quit the game because I still enjoy learning heroes I haven’t played before but I think one of the big issues that’s really unsolvable about this game is that it’s sweaty no matter what game mode you’re in. Whether you’re playing unranked or competitive it all feels the same and whenever you’re doing something difficult/competitive nearly 100% of the time it’s bound to feel like a chore. I'm the kind of player that gets the most out of a game when I play with my friends so when I reinstalled ow for my friends I thought it would make the game feel better. It definitely beats playing alone but I still feel so unmoved whether we win or lose and I too realized that even my friends couldn't magically fix the game for me. I've experienced this same thing with league of legends and I've just concluded that I must have "fallen out of love" with these games. There's something magical about getting into a game and wanting to learn everything about it but these online multiplayers inevitably change for better or worse. Now I kinda just play occasionally when someone asks me to hop on so we can have something that everyone can play and I think that's as good as it gets. Just a game to have in the background.

I can genuinely agree with this honestly.
I am currently in my quitting era and I've been on this game since day 1 of its release and it doesn't feel the same anymore. For me, 5v5 and 6v6, stats or none of the main game stuff mattered.
What really took my toll was the amount of times I had to hear the constant FOMO riding of "This game is back again" and "We're so back" stuff.
We lost PvE (sure. we cant have nice things)
The Patch Notes weren't lining up (Some characters kept getting a weird tun up or toned down when not needed)
Characters needed a constant fix or change in kit to be well suited for the 5v5 (which could have been done whilst the game was in development)
Casual vs Competitive players would never meet eye to eye and it was always such a toxic battlefield that neither can agree on
Its somewhat upsetting when people can't just play to have fun anymore and I feel like this comes in the form of free to play accessibility and the lack of open play between all platforms (switch being a barren wasteland, Xbox actually being somewhat decent to play and Playstation community is toxic as all hell and im from PS). Its amazing that its accessible by default but now EVERYONE just magically gains a "I know everything because I won a single game" just urks me. If I paid some good cash for the game, I wouldn't have to worry about a Reinhardts hammer being $53 CAD. Its FP2 so the additional Microtransactions can happen and its just so rough.
At the end of the day, everyone experience is their own. Mine is slowly diluting to where I am better off playing a different game than Overwatch 2

I was basically a Sym 2.0 one trick for this game, nothing was ever as good as she was. Popping a personal shield in front of a High Noon and throwing some turrents down at his feet while the animation finishes, surviving because the shield takes the hit, and then winning out over a duel someone used their literal ultimate on with just your basic kit? You can't make drugs that hit better than that. I miss the character gameplay I fell in love with, but the newer iterations of Sym are so different it's night and day. Nothing is the same. 2016 OW1 beta here. I'm a point where I just hop on Overwatch every now and then. I've been playing my other three games that I also play often: HSR, Genshin, and Destiny. At the time of this comment, community creator patch is still going on. And I went back to playing OW and having so much fun, after not playing it for a month. It felt refreshing and gameplay loop felt so much fun for me. Too bad it's limited time.
At this point, there's just nothing for me to look forward to.
    - 5v5 gameplay loop is more stale compared to 6v6. 6v6 should just come back. It's clear 5v5 cannot survive long term
    - On top with 5v5 issues, tanks feels even more worst to play. This also leads to supports and dps not feeling satisfied to play.
    - 90% of OW2 cosmetics are expensive and locked behind paywalls where before we could earn them by playing
    - More skin recolors but still locked behind paywall
    - no level borders
    - no new lores onto Overwatch universe and heroes
    - PvE, the biggest reason of OW2 exists has been officially scrapped
    - No lfg feature
    - Workshop being neglected more
Overwatch 2 is your typical free-to-play live-service game that is design to milk as much money as possible. The only update I see comes from the monetization which that kills the rewards by just playing the game. And it sucks because Overwatch 1 was not like that. There were more care being put onto the Ip and players were the main focus. I would rather have lootboxes to keep earning rather than what we have in Overwatch 2.
But apologies for the long comment, just want to get these thoughts/experiences towards Overwatch. I have tried other games like Apex and Valorant but it still feels like there are no games like Overwatch. There's no Tracer, no Kiriko, Doomfist, no Winston, all of my favorite heroes I play. The universe in Overwatch is beautiful as well.

I've noticed ow2 definitely felt more catered to bringing in as much money as possible, while also disregarding the f2p experience in a way :/ I miss my lootboxes 😔

It was a really good time to be part of an Overwatch community that time. Overwatch has that special magic that brings all the communities together.

i have the same feelings as u when i quit
something that i could rationalize as why i dont like ow anymore was
    1. 5v5 feels like team deathmatch, i didnt like that mode in ow1 and only played qp and ranked. I liked the teamwork and coordination part of the game and 5v5 has taken that away little by little
    2. role passives, basically taking player agency away and giving it to the game. This makes it quite frustrating when it comes to decision making, feels like there are 10 wrong decisions and 1 right one.
It's ultimately about who you play not how you play. This format and passives is slowly killing hero identities..
That's mostly why it's boring to me now.. hopefully one day we will get 6v6 back with no passives as a game mode in the future

When lockdown hit, I joined a grassroots league and played even more, getting up at 8AM to practice with my team every day for hours, running scrims throughout the weeks. I know the feeling. Overwatch was the first FPS that have a strong identity, so many heroes to choose, all very different between them, and some have a strong sinergy between them like rein/zarya, dva/winston, tracer/genji or lucio/ana. I remember rhe first time I play Ana, it feel so good, the way she plays with her pros and cons, how fun she was too play, but the particular thing was the interactions with other characters and that make her unique for me. Of course the gameplay was awesome, for the sinergy. But when 5v5 came, ana wasnt the same. The game lost his identity, and every new character that was release was more broken than before. I also play zen, bap, Moira, lucio and some brig. But I love the game cause of Ana, and there comes Kiriko and Illari. Was the point of a good sleep or nade, when with a simple CD all is cancelled, or having a turret that heals your team for you while you can be just shooting. I miss 6v6, and I miss the old Overwatch. But its like you said "maybe its time to move on"

This sounds a lot like my experience.
I was originally an Xbox player who started playing to hide from IRL problems. I met a bunch of friends online and really enjoyed grinding and playing with them as we all learned and a handful of us reaching top 500 (me on tank). I remember those eager days to get home and log on where we would all chat in discord all day waiting for the next bunch of games we would play, we even participated in console tournaments.
Eventually during the content lull a few people left the game and it was just me and my tank duo with an occasional support friend mixed in. I eventually made the switch to PC in the last few seasons of OW1 and peaked around diamond.
Fast forward to OW2 as a former top 500 tank main, I do not enjoy the tank experience. I used to have a 2nd tank to share the 6 CC’s I had coming my way while now I'm alone to take all 5, every loss no matter what I do I get spammed “tank diff” and I occasionally get suspended for throwing despite typically holding a 55% or better win rate.
I just don't enjoy the game anymore, I am expected to do the job of 2 without any help, I get all the blame and most importantly I am no longer able to duo up with my friend where we could control the game place and in comms by having everyone coalesce behind the tanks plans. Now it feels like with how the meta forces team composition and with counterpicking as bad as it is the game has devolved into a 4v4 team Deathmatch with the tanks sitting off to the side in a CC chain for the DPS to charge ultimates on.
I am finding myself playing less and less and I just don't see it ever getting better since they basically took a very unique game and highjacked the franchise to make a shop tailored to the lowest players who will mindlessly spend money on skins and will ditch the game at the drop of a hat for a new fad so an ow1 OG tank main like me can screw off since I'm clearly not wanted or appreciated anymore. It's kind of sad with the history of the game and what this game meant to me helping me navigate my trauma years ago.
    Sorry for the long post

No, don't apologize for the long post. I love reading everyone's stories so I appreciate you being open about your experience :) Ow for me definitely was an escape from whatever school stress I was feeling, so I definitely understand escaping IRL for a bit to have some fun.
I absolutely felt you on how ow2 feels like team deathmatch. It's the most accurate description I feel and tanks feel like such an important role, but they carry so much responsibility and burden in a team fight. They're expected to make space and get kills, but also peel for the backline at the same time and also not get absolutely MELTED within a second. It's a hard role for just one person which is why I highly believe the tank role NEEDS the other tank back in a 6v6 setting. We'll see how they handle on bringing 6v6 back :)

@@feenixsarchive thank you for the words of support, curious if I ever ran into you back in the Xbox days, the GM/Top 500 circle wasn't too huge :)
Anyway I hope you stay away and don't get tempted, idk why I keep logging in when I know what awaits me, I guess I just can't fully let go so I run back to the abuse.

True! I wonder if we ever did meet in a game long long ago haha. I hope you break out of the cycle of logging back in tho, the pain and suffering must come to a stop at some point LMAOOO but gl in your games 🫡

I'm also an OG player and I've felt the same way. I recently came to the sad realization that Overwatch 2 just wasn't made for me, or OW1 players. It feels like it has been optimised to gather more "classic FPS" players from other games, with a more kill-based fast paced gameplay. What made me fall in love with OW1 is that you could pick nearly any hero and feel like you were contributing something to the team. For example when playing tank, if you weren't an aggressive player you could still focus on protecting your team and be helpful in doing so. The game used to valorize different playstyles but now in OW2, the main goal is just to wipe the enemy team as fast as possible. Tank is miserable and supports are put in a weird position where they have to put their entire healing on the tank or else the tank falls but also they need to help secure kills as well by doing damage. If you don't counterplay you're also pretty much cooked. Mercy is still to this day my second most played hero but I literally haven't played her since OW2 came out because the burst damage is just too strong. I still play for the dailies and weeklies because of FOMO but most of the time logging in feels like a chore, as soon as events and/or battlepasses are done I usually stop playing until the next update.
That's gonna sound insane but after years of hating League of Legends I finally gave this game a good shot and I'm actually enjoying it so much. The servers are so much more stable, I don't get sent to foreign servers with 300ms, the updates are frequent and grinding games even outside of an event still feels rewarding. If you don't pay for the battlepass, grinding OW2 gives you nearly jack diggidy squat (I know they've been improving that over time but still). I've also made the decision to put more time into more solo story-driven FPS games instead.
With all of that said I hope you find your next favorite game and I hope it helps you move on from OW.

You're so right, ow2 definitely tried to follow other mainstream fps games, and I think that's also what ruined it. It didn't feel unique anymore :/ YES feeling like you could actually contribute something in ow1 is SO REAL, but in ow2 it's just... Not the case. I totally felt you with logging on feeling like a chore. It definitely didn't help bc ow2 didn't feel like you had much to grind for other than the bp 😔
I heard some of my other ow friends trying league and enjoying it as well, and I'm glad you ended up liking it too! Enjoy what game makes you happy (altho I'll poke fun at you jokingly in the distance LMAOOO)! And thank you 🫶

The reasons are simple. The game has changed and we grew older. Blizzard has done an incredibly poor job at managing this game and the love the devs used to have died quite a bit, similarly to the love players have for the game in turn
