MG4 the ID2 will not be here for two years, and it will cost a lot more than everyone predicting. It will be starting at £32,000 if you want wheels, paint , etc It will be nearer £40k.
Totally agree this could be a game changer if: 1) the infotainment gubbins that haunt the other ID models has be successfully addressed 2) the price is below £20k without having to buy extras which would normally be reasonably expected 3) it goes into production without delay
Same here in the Volkswagen homeland.... The pricing of Volkswagens is pretty much shameless. But I think German manufacturers have to learn it the hard way. The Chinese manufacturers are able to produce almost equal quality for a much more affordable price. And that makes the MG4 the better ID.2.
@@jochenloscher2308 doubt Chinese cars are as good as the German product. The Chinese also have lower environmental standards and poor worker pay and conditions. Chinese have lower costs for a reason.

This car has restored my faith in VW. I was going to update my Golf 7 to the 8 but was appalled by the lack of physical controls for climate and volume. Less than £22,000? I’ll believe it when I see it! VW have got to go a long way before I’ll part with my cash as by the time they release the ID2All there will be better and cheaper vehicles on the market come 2026. VW claim 280 miles an a full charge which will most likely be 200 miles.
For most buying such a small car 200 miles will be more than enough. And by 2026 the charging infrastructure has hopefully improved substantially. If you take a longer trip of 300-500 km 2-3 times a year and need to top up once or twice along the way, is it really a problem worth fuzzing about?

A good looking VW EV at last. As Ford seems to be planning on exiting the mass market, VW are stepping up to be people's cars in the EV era. I did like the glimpse of an original Polo style dials dashboard graphics, a clever VW retro touch. Fingers crossed the production car closely matches this concept model, which certainly looks ready to go...
Ford is launching 7 new ev cars in the next 18 months , first launched today 23 March, so they are not departing and have always been been more reasonable than illegal Vw cars whilst being best drivers cars in each class.
Whoah, hang on, I have a good looking VW EV, the e-Golf. Granted it could defo do with a bigger battery, but it does me for my 90 mile commute once per week...
Electric cars …a load of bollocks…..petrol and diesel…..who gives a sh1t about the environment and emissions….need range, practicality and reliability……everything will go wrong with these cars…..guarantee it.
I have a polestar 2 long range, I have come to realise range is generally not that important if you don’t have long commutes. I’m actually getting more interested in these shorter ranged but cheaper cars. I would today much rather have quicker charge and smaller battery.
I love my id.3 and have absolutely no complaints about it - BUT I love this car. Range, price, boot space and interior design are spot on. I much prefer the look of the id.3. This looks a little old fashioned in comparison - externally. VW need to move very quickly to get this to market or pretty soon or it’ll be outclassed before it even launches. Things move very fast in electric car world!
What’s interesting is, when manufacturers talk about price they usually mean the lowest spec models, when they talk about specs, they usually mean the top models.
This is what i wanted from the id line from the beginning. I really like the existing models of VW and i wish they would have stuck with those and made electric version like this. It’s basically an electric polo, and as a polo owner i couldn’t be more pleased.
This is a very good looking car. My worry though is that what is shown would end up being the top-spec model which would probably add another £4k - £8k
The smaller E-Up is £23k new. We have one and an MG4 so genuinely interested by this. If this larger, longer range, more powerful Polo sized ID2 is launched at £22k, I’ll eat my hat. Does no one remember the pre launch pricing suggestions for the ID3, Model 3 and others?!
Looks a whole world of improvement from previous efforts. Certainly inetrior and the slick user interface. The centre infotainment control wheel I think lifted from BMW - but no issues there. Pricing? There is big gap in difference in 'anticipating' and actual pricing in VW-land. I recall the ID Buzz being 'targeted' in the high £30'sk - or less than 40k. What is it now? Don't think you get any change - if any - from £60K . I 'anticpate ' this not less than £28k to 30k in reality. Which would make it no more than marginally of interest. Let's see .
0:42 the ID3 was the start? How about the Up and the slightly unknown car, the GOLF? Both, eUp and eGolf are great cars, and there are many of them still beloved and wizzing around Europe. Even the batteries (today on the smaller side) were quite adequate when new, other brands had much smaller ones…
Looking at at first glance the ID 2 wins hands down but in the video it looks like it’s the top of the range version from VW . Wondering what the specs are on the base model and no doubt have the smaller battery pack which I think will put a lot of people off . All being said it’s a very big step in the right direction for VW
Definitely. I'm doubtful that any car is going to be soft touch fabric and velour at that base price. Expect much of it to be replaced by scratchy plastic. Probably have to drop a lot more money for some stupidly priced executive long range model to see any of that..
This looks like an exciting step up for VW. You report that it was designed in six weeks, and is based on a shortened version of an existing car. I don't know anything of the process of getting a car into production, but three years seems an awfully long time to an outsider. I wonder how long the Chinese would take?
I love the ID. 2. Much more VW. A pair of round headlamps and it’d be even better! I especially like the Beetle-style or 80s-style instrument display options. I mean why have a screen if you can’t play around with it and have a bit of fun? A very odd thing is the choice of a 60/40 split rear bench with the 60 side behind the folding front passenger seat. Would it be more versatile to have the very long load lefty that this offers and still keep seating for 3 rather than 2? Seems odd to me…
looks absolutely amazing.... but im affraid how a toned down serial production version will look like... smaller wheels, more basic and bare interior with "naked" plastic trims, there is almost no naked plastic trim in the concept = really cozy looking cabin, absolutely love it, also no gloss black trim, at least some physical HVAC for temperature....
Sounds great, but there is no way this will be price anywhere near £22k. I’m guessing £30k for the smaller batter and £35k for the bigger battery ( the ID3 is basically £40k now, so they won’t make the ID2 too cheap otherwise they would never sell ID3 or ID4 )
I also think that this will cost above 30k if you choose all options...but the ID3 is easily close to 60k with full options. Means it would be still much cheaper than ID3, which starts at 42k € at the moment...12k difference is a lot in this price range
Nice changes, I like both, ID2 and ID3, alas neither are available in USA, thus iD.4. SW 3.1 is pretty solid thus far. Kudos on design cues on boot space. The iD.2 makes sense, and will fill the 20K to 30K market share. Finally.
All the U.S. auto makers are discontinuing cars like this. We don’t even get the ID.3. I would buy the ID.2 so fast, but it’s probably not coming here. It’s times like this that really makes me wish I lived in Europe😭
I like that we finally get a decent sized boot and that it seems big enough for a family and that at a decent price. Maybe Volkswagen will be true to its name once again.
Bet you VW will find a way for this car to cost more than an equivalent spec MG. It's probably at least a year or two out from launch in any event. What I'd be most interested to know if they use a sodium ion battery in it.
Heads rolled when the ID line was launched. It was such a departure from typical VW styling and quality and thankfully, backfired. The last CEO was obsessed with chasing Tesla and woke advertising and changing the VW brand identity, when no one asked for it at all. I’m glad they saw sense. So much MK1 and MK4 golf in this design. Interior looks a work or art, and they’ve covered otherwise hard scratchy plastic in micro fibre to add to the element of quality.
The id2 beats id3 for me, but it’s a concept, so not apples to apples comparison… if they released this car today, I’d seriously consider getting one if everything is as you say it is, and it does not fall apart in the reviews
Interesting that VW plans to place the battery pack under the bonnet... A small petrol engine weighs approx 100-120kg. Roughly speaking, 10kWh of lithium ion batteries weighs 100kg, so even the smallest 38kWh battery VW plans to put in this iD.2All would likely weigh around 350-400kg. Oh my goodness, the understeer during cornering will be MAHOOSIVE...!! 😵
This is wrong...the batteries are in the floor, like for any MEB car...it has a front motor, which is unusual for MEB, which has normally a rear motor in ID3/4/5 and now ID7.
i'd say 29990 for a base model. The one on the video will be about 35. This is VW we're talking about, they haven't made an actually affordable car since the original HItlerwagen, and even that wasn't cheep for the time
Let's hope the quality is improved. Some VW cars seem to have lost that 'quality' feel. My VW Golf MK6 was the last car I had with a good build all round.
I really hope VW brings something like this to the States. I know wishing for a Polo sized hatchback is wishful thinking but I’d be first in line to get an ID2X GTI or something like that to replace my Mk7.5 GTI.
Can’t wait for the ID 1 (based on the Up!?). At least I’d be able to fit one on my front garden to charge it up without dragging cables across the pavement.
As a huge VW fan, I’m a little worried 2025 is too late. The ID4 and 5 are out of ‘the people’s’ financial reach, to a certain extend that also goes for the ID3. Most sales are lease. The factory worker however doesn’t get a lease; he/she needs to cough up dough. Meanwhile European governments are pushing people out of combustion engines with higher taxes on fuel and ownership. So within now and 24 months the big switching will start. And VW won’t have anything to offer. That’s something that should keep them from sleep in Wolfsburg.
This is the car we want. Small, affordable and of course electric. The majority of people dont want the huge bus like ID3/ID4. Shame about the rotary dial though, those things are awful.
If it's anywhere near £22,000 I'll eat my hat.......it will be closer to £27-30,000.......I did see an interview with the VW top man, and he spoke of this as a 'people's car' - but I'll believe it when I see it. Saying that, I actually do like this....
The cheapest will be for sure anyone without much options and small Batterie...as usall. You can easily add 25 to 30% with all options. An ID3 starts with 43k € at the moment...with all options you end close to 60k. But even at 30k the difference of 13k to an ID3, is much within this range of car.
For sure not...most likely cheaper LFP, since you will never achieve this price with latest technology. Perhaps you will see the Solid State in 2028, when they exchange the MEB+ with the SSP...and more likely in expensive cars from Audi and Porsche.
Being an ID.3 owner I would steer clear of any VW electric car for a a good few more years. The countless issues and seemingly clear lack of thought with some of the design decisions, and that's before dealing with the totally garbage software side of things. I honestly wish I just bought a Tesla, at least then I wouldn't get directed to faulty/not working EV chargers 99% of the time.
VW should put in their stubborn heads that the most important thing in a car IS NOT THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN!! IS THE CAR ITSELF!!! the seats, the motor, the chasis, HOW IT LOOKS, how the ac works, safety... but no, they do think putting a huge screen is the crucial thing to do, forget about the rest.
What is the point of this comparison when you can buy one today at a known price and specs, whereas the other is a concept car that MAY be available in a couple of years but in what spec and at what price ?
SO, if it is slightly larger than modern Polo but smaller than Golf, it is then larger than Mk4, maybe even Mk5 Golf. New Polo is almost exactly same size that Mk4 Golf was. This size makes it perfect for me. Also, it looks like a ... Polo or Golf. And me personally, i have had all of the models until Mk8 (that i sold quickly, i specially liked Mk7.5 GTE).
I think......they lied. IT Will not be that cheap. They stop produce cheap car likes electric Citigo because of money loss on every car. I think that full spec with good battery Will cost almost 1,5-2x that Price.
The version which is cheap will for sure have almost no options and the smallest battery. 2 times more expensive I doubt, since this would be about 50k and the ID3 starts with 43k at the moment. But I assume a fully loaded ID2, will easily reach 35k
Also, it will very likely use LFP batteries so at the size it is, I can almost guarantee that it won't have an official figure any higher than 180-200 miles. My MG4 standard range is a bigger car and has a 51KW LFP battery. It's official range is 218 miles.
This definitely looks better than VW’s other EV’s. We’ll see how much makes it to the production model, but I wouldn’t complain if it looked like this.
I would want the bigger battery option, what’s the tech on board as the MG4 Trophy has nearly everything chucked at it. I think it will not be £22k and nearer £25k for the small battery and nearer £30k for the larger battery. We will see
id2 looks like polo class car, while I would say that mg4 is class above. So it has to be cheaper, but will it be enough? If its small diff, pp might still go for mg4.

I also think that this will cost above 30k if you choose all options...but the ID3 is easily close to 60k with full options. Means it would be still much cheaper than ID3, which starts at 42k € at the moment...12k difference is a lot in this price range
So much more craveable than the ID3, but would be happy to have either in the US.
If built and priced with the larger battery at £27'000 with the " first edition " all bells and whistles at £30'000 it will be a massive hit in the uk
Nice changes, I like both, ID2 and ID3, alas neither are available in USA, thus iD.4. SW 3.1 is pretty solid thus far. Kudos on design cues on boot space. The iD.2 makes sense, and will fill the 20K to 30K market share. Finally.
"The ID.3 was a very promising start for the brand". e-Golf and e-Up: "What are we to you, mashed potatoes?" Our 2016 e-Golf is right as rain.
Love ID.2All…but, where’s the air vents? The dash is beautiful, but something is missing…Hope to be the return of VW!
THEY GAVE US BUTTONS. NOW PUT IT IN THE MK8
Buttons for the heating system and a rotary dial to control the screen function is best design decision.
ID3 leaser here, i dont quite understand the hate on it tbh
This is as usual...people complain without even having sit in the car or driven it...
ID.1 sounds more appealing to me! That's just my personal circumstances though, this seems like a decent car.
Bet you VW will find a way for this car to cost more than an equivalent spec MG. It's probably at least a year or two out from launch in any event. What I'd be most interested to know if they use a sodium ion battery in it.
No chance that car in the video comes out cheaper than an MG4...maybe some sort of budget version of it.
Looks good. A fine replacement for the discontinued Polo. Still no idea where I would charge it though!
Love how the seats fold down
Love the selectable retro instruments❤.
This is actually a SUPER step forward for VW
This looks great, should have been the 'new golf' that the I.D 3 was touted as.
What is the name of the song that is used on the background? Can someone help?
I'd buy this every day of the week. Can't say the same for their current lineup.
The id2 beats id3 for me, but it’s a concept, so not apples to apples comparison… if they released this car today, I’d seriously consider getting one if everything is as you say it is, and it does not fall apart in the reviews
can't wait for it to hit the roads. What a beautiful car
Understeer, and frontal impact.
i cant find anywhere VW says the battery is under the bonnet, this is the only video I've seen to say that.
This is wrong...the batteries are in the floor, like for any MEB car...it has a front motor, which is unusual for MEB, which has normally a rear motor in ID3/4/5 and now ID7.
Volkswagen, PLEASE bring the production ID.2 to the USA!
I really like this car. The ID.2 is definitely a good idea which I am interested in.
i'd say 29990 for a base model.
This looks amazing at 22k too fingers crossed I like it 😀👍🏻
Looks like fair enough offering, at least as far as those "cheap" electric cars goes, on the other hand, success on it is pretty much a must for VW.
I like the look and if they can deliver on that price then I’ll buy one. Bring on cheaper EVs!!
I really hope VW brings something like this to the States. I know wishing for a Polo sized hatchback is wishful thinking but I’d be first in line to get an ID2X GTI or something like that to replace my Mk7.5 GTI.
I said before the ID3 wouldn’t replicate the Golf sales. I take that back now this came out. Golf 2.0
I doubt the basic car will have the same specs as the car shown in the video. The infotainment screen is massive!
When you add all the features on this concept, front and rear LEDs, the big wheels, on board features etc it will be more like 32k
Never be £22k. The reason why the ID 3 & 4 are so crap is that VW had to cut everything to even get to their expensive price.
Sorry, but I don't believe the price will stay the same at £22k when it is actually on sale
Could this car be using the Quantumscape solid state battery? VW is a big investor in QS.
For sure not...most likely cheaper LFP, since you will never achieve this price with latest technology. Perhaps you will see the Solid State in 2028, when they exchange the MEB+ with the SSP...and more likely in expensive cars from Audi and Porsche.
Where did the info come from that the battery is under the bonnet, VW shows the battery under the floor in the press pack?
This is interesting !
ID-2 Looks great.
Looks good but with motors and batteries at the front, I wonder how it will ride / handle. Sounds crazy nose heavy.
Only motor is at the front...batteries are in the bottom as usual for MEB.
But the ID2 isn’t fully kitted out at that price. The MG4 is. Many things you need for the VW you need to pay for optionals.
İt looks really good, especially back, reminds me of ionique 5, as well as interior. Hope they deliver
This definitely looks better than VW’s other EV’s. We’ll see how much makes it to the production model, but I wouldn’t complain if it looked like this.
Id2 looks better inside and out.
It will cost nearer £30k if/when it is actually for sale in the UK...
Thanks for showing me another car that doesn't exist.
Love the interior especially the wheel and retro future touches 10/10 well done now keep up on the price 🎉😊🎉
Looks like a winner to me
