Just after the scene of her birthday cake is a "pin the tale on the donkey" style poster but it's Beetle Juice! Did anyone else see it? And did anyone notice Morticia's School Year Book was 1991. From the year the Addams Family movie came out with Christina Ricci
Grandmama is Gomez's mother. There is a grandma frump as well who is morticia's mother, but the one that lives with them is Gomez's mother. It's very explicitly stated in the 60 show. Not to mention, morticia's older sister is named Ophelia. So the naming of the dorm is both a nod to Hamlet as well as to Morticia's family
Depends on which version we're talking about - in the Addams Family musical grandma has her own mysterious origin (won't spoil since it's part of the plot)
In The Addams Family and Addams Family Values she was Morticias mum because Gomez parents were killed by an angry mob leading them to be buried in the Addams cemetery
She showed up one day (night?) and said "I'm Grandma!" and Morticia and Gomez both assumed she was the other's mother. They never checked with each other on that. So ....
also in the newer cartoon movie I think there is a scene Morticia contacts both her parents through the crystal ball while the other grandma is at the house, so I feel like she is meant to be Gomez's mother
Yes, I agree. The narrator missed a few, I don’t blame him, he is young after all. One blared one is the eating Girl Scout reference, the Addams’s are Ghouls and they are flesh eaters. This goes back to the original comic where a nurse is giving uncle fester a plump newborn baby in a darkened alley next to the maternity hospital.
The rowing team dressed as jesters is a referrence to Fortunado, one of the characters from The Cask of Amontillado, an E.A. Poe story. The Black Cats are a referrence to the story of the same name. The other two boats reference The Pit and the Pendulum and The Gold Bug. It is not named the Poe Cup for nothing.
At the ending of season 1, you can see Lurch looks completely different than he was at the beginning of the season. His eyes are black and not white. It may be possible that Principal Weems is alive and probably shape shifted into Lurch to take Wednesday away at somewhere safer as Tyler is still alive!
I read somewhere that Principle Weems is set to come back, there was a sentence saying "we didn't see her buried yet, did we?" or something like that lol
The hypocrisy on Thornhill's part was she hated outcasts for family reasons due to some of them having the ability to do magic. But she interestingly used magic to resurrect her ancestor who hated outcasts and their magic so much, that he carried a magical staph to fight magicians.
A small detail I noticed was during the cello scene. During the scene you hear the cello play but you can also hear the two fingers snap in the beat (not sure how to explain). You can hear two finger snaps at the exact moment when Rowan walks into the Nightshade secret room, a small hint that you need to snap your fingers twice in order to unlock the door leading the room. I am not sure if that detail was on accident, but it's really cool.
A couple of notes about her dance: You can, very briefly, see her doing "The Droop" which young Wednesday did in the original TV show while teaching Lurch how to dance. When she is flopping her head side to side that resembles the distinctive dance of the oddly-named twin sisters "3" and "4" in "A Charlie Brown Christmas Special."
I thought the dance was something out of Wade Robsons Ramalama Bang Bang (group zombie dance) on So You Think You Can Dance. Thought perhaps someone - writer or director or someone - had remembered the brilliance of that dance and thought the “cracked limbs” dance was perfect for young Wednesday 😅😂🤷♀️

Grandma Addams is Gomez's mother in all versions of the family. This is very clear in the OG series. Morticia's mother is Grandma Frump and is played by the same actress who played the wicked witch in the OG Wizard of OZ.

Ooh ooh, the comment about not being so much different from each other it's not the only reference to both playing the same part the teacher also says it's so disappointing when you meet your idols or something like that, which of course is a nod to Christina's iconic performance of Wednesday and how everyone associated her with that role and now Ortega is killing it as Wednesday.
@@spacefishaviation276 The mansplaining line was a joke. The Pilgrims thing was in relation to the 1990's films where Wednesday is at a camp and playing the role of a Native American. Well done. Some of these references and homages came so rapid-fire that they were easy to miss. We paused often during the show to comment on the literary and music references that we caught. I really enjoyed this synopsis.
I think there is 2 hydes, because Of course, Tyler is a Hyde, But Xavier Was painting the hyde, and like he said, he couldn't control his abilities, and created another Hyde, so I think he created another.
Of all the things pointed out. The most obvious one was not mentioned! The Addams House was a part of the Nevermore Academy, more specifically Wednesdays room was the tower of the house/school!
Actually Wednesday said that basically the scouts didn’t actually make the cookies. And the grandmother was always Gomez’s mother and it was always cousin IT.

Well of course......This is a major production and Jenna Ortega is the star. I would expect her to be the center of attention.....However this is not real life......Thinking back to my high school days, I don't think Wednesday would have been the kind of girl we would have been salivating over.......Granted she has a face that is absolutely super super cute but she is so tiny. We were more interested in teenage girls who looked 20.....not the other way around
In school, I was taught the exact same Addams Family beat, rhythm, and the snaps. But, we used it as “Days of the Week” It would go like this: Days of the week, **snap snap** days of the week, **snap snap** Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week **snap snap** There’s Monday and there’s Tuesday, and Wednesday Thursday Friday, then Saturday and Sunday, and those are the days of the week!
"cookies weren't made from real cookies." you mean real girl scouts. Also when talking about Dracula you should have mentioned that the school has a Coach Vlad.

You're missing out. It was a comic strip, then a 60s sitcom, then the 90s gave us 2 live action movies and a cartoon series. I didn't bother to watch the awful new animations. The actual lore of the Addams family is ever evolving, and the point has always been the darkly witty comedic jokes.
This was a fantastically wonderful show! I totally binged it in like 2 seatings. Why did it take so long? Well I do have a full time job, hungry mouths to feed, and …….. a CAT! 😂
You did all that research but missed Poe's works. The canoe names, team names and costumes of the canoe race were all based on Edgar Allan Poe's stories.
wait i noticed something, maybe a plot hole, or something they might bring up in season 2. there are two hydes in the woods. one of them was tyler, the other is still out there. you see when Eugene was attacked by the hyde, tylor was the the Ravan, and when wednesday realized it by her vision, i think tylor was there too, so who attacked him. did tylor leave early and i either didnt notice it or missed it?
wednesday can see into both the past and the future (ex. her vision about the farmer in a car accident), so her vision about eugene was foreshadowing the attack. eugene was running from sheer fear in the forest after seeing someone at the cave; it wasn’t until wednesday and tyler separated that the latter went after eugene
Jenna is brilliant as Wednesday. The writing was amazing and kept me well entertained. And I think if I came across Wednesday in real life i would probably get on my hands and knees start crying and begging her for mercy not to kill me lol. She would be that terrifying in my opinion and she is in fact that terrifying but brilliant at the same time.
The first Addam’s Family show said that Grandmama was Gomez’s mother. It is the episode where he meets Morticia, the sister of Ophelia, who the moms were trying have Gomez marry.
just a question for anyone who knows. so at the same time that (I forgot his name) like Bee Buddy was getting attacked Tyler was at the dance. how was this possible if tyler was the monster.
Wednesday is able to see into the future. When we see Eugene running, he is running away from whoever is setting fire to the Hyde’s lair (I personally think it is the sherif, but that is never established.) when Wednesday gets her premonition, she knows what is going to happen, so takes off. Tyler then messages Thornhill, but pretends to Xavier that he has called his Dad, then he takes off, to hunt for Wednesday. But he becomes his Hyde self and is able to cover more ground, overtakes Wednesday and comes across Eugene.
Also, during the dance scene at the Rave'N, if you watch closely in the part where the camera is looking at Wednesday through a crowd of people, you can see her doing the dance that we also see Wednesday dong in the 1960s black and white Addams Family
I’m gonna voluntarily show my age here but; since it seems deduction didn’t work, Mother Adams is from Morticia’s side of the family & I think they just threw the title of “Mother Adams” at everyone to keep it kooky but the women in Morticia’s family are hereditary witches meaning they passed their spell casting, potion making + a few other kooky things down through their bloodline and as it is in the real world of witches… you might not get the exact same strong abilities as an ancestor but you do get the (generally basic) mystical abilities as your mother or grandmother but your particular area of expertise would be more catered to whatever it is your destiny to be that would positively benefit mankind blablabla… but in the world of The Adams Family… it’s Morticia’s family that are witches! Robert Christgau has some great reviews. My favorite is his review of Prince's Sign O' the Times
@@joseybryant7577 I will look that up
"No one accidentally snapped twice near the the Poe statue?" when you said that I was like, are there people who accidentally snap at all?
It was poorly phrased. Better would be, 'No one snapped twice near the Poe statue and accidentally opened the door ?'
I’m so excited for season two!
The stain glass reminded me of Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas
Netflix is finally bringing back some quality.
Additionally, can't wait for knives out 2 this Dec.
I mean, partially, the show was wayyy too woke for me to watch a second season when it comes out
@@spacefishaviation276 It what way was it woke?
@@spacefishaviation276 The mansplaining line was a joke.
The Pilgrims thing was in relation to the 1990's films where Wednesday is at a camp and playing the role of a Native American.
And she wasn't perfect in every way. She lost her fencing duel with Bianca. Didn't she?
Some people will look for woke everywhere, just as some constantly look for sexism or racism. It's not everywhere, so stop tiring yourself out looking for it, or listening to nonsense online. That's a huge part of the problem, regardless of what side of the fence you sit.
For the record, i'm extreme right wing.
@@spacefishaviation276 That's off topic wee man. Try to keep it on the topic in hand.
Also on the raven theory, for Wednesday to be the only one in black further hinted at her symbolism as the black raven that will uncover the dark truth in Tyler i.e. her date
I remember the black dahlia case those pictures are still haunting
Well done. Some of these references and homages came so rapid-fire that they were easy to miss. We paused often during the show to comment on the literary and music references that we caught. I really enjoyed this synopsis.
“we don’t want to spoil the riddles” *5 seconds earlier showing tyler transforming*
I think there is 2 hydes, because Of course, Tyler is a Hyde, But Xavier Was painting the hyde, and like he said, he couldn't control his abilities, and created another Hyde, so I think he created another.
9:00 As a Romanian, I can confirm that I do not make garlic potions every Wednesday to protect myself from Dracula.
Of all the things pointed out. The most obvious one was not mentioned!
The Addams House was a part of the Nevermore Academy, more specifically Wednesdays room was the tower of the house/school!
Thought I was the only one to notice.
Actually Wednesday said that basically the scouts didn’t actually make the cookies. And the grandmother was always Gomez’s mother and it was always cousin IT.
Jenna really slayed this role, l hope that it gets a second season!
💗💗💗💗✌🏻️✌🏻️✌🏻️
so good I'm watching it at 2:00 a.m thank you so much for this fantastic video!
Thank you for posting this video. You have a new subscriber. Keep up the great work.
I love this show I hope the second season is gonna be a thing
there thinking of making a season 2, because why in the hell wouldnt they? its the only thing i would watch on netflix
This article was so informative and so fun--thank you!
Girl scouts. The cookies weren't "made from real girl scouts". Loved Wednesday. Thanks for the vid; I missed some of these.
I think you meant to say at 10:49 "that their cookies weren't made form real Girl Scouts"
I hate it, when quotes get shortend in a way that messes up their meaning. The Machiavelli quote is "It is better to be feared then to be loved, if one can not be both" That paints a bit of a different picture especialy if put in context with the rrest of his writings that very clearly spell out, no matter what you do, do not get yourself hated or you are fucked.
There is so much misinformation about this man for people lack the ability to get context and regcognise irony . . .
It annoys me when people don't know the difference between 'then' and 'than'.
@@scottw.3258 Then maybe create a language without homonyms and that is entirely phonetic and find a cure for dyslexia, also, fix autocorrect
@@SingingSealRiana Or maybe just own the obvious error that so many Americans make and learn the massive difference between the two words. It's really not difficult.
2:15 oh, I recognize Daisy Ridley.
Did anyone else get the impression that all the youngmen in this show have an infatuation with Wednesday? It gives off Elvira vibes except with a teenage girl. Every guy she talks to likes her more than just an aquaintence or friend. 🤷♀️ The only boy not in love with her is the bee kid. lol
What are you talking about? Eugene wouldn't have said no
In school, I was taught the exact same Addams Family beat, rhythm, and the snaps. But, we used it as “Days of the Week”
It would go like this:
Days of the week, **snap snap** days of the week, **snap snap**
Days of the week, days of the week, days of the week **snap snap**
There’s Monday and there’s Tuesday, and Wednesday Thursday Friday, then Saturday and Sunday, and those are the days of the week!
"cookies weren't made from real cookies." you mean real girl scouts. Also when talking about Dracula you should have mentioned that the school has a Coach Vlad.
You mentioned Gargoyles. They aren't gargoyles, they are grotesques. Gargoyles funnel rainwater, and grotesques are purely ornamental. Remember gargoyles = gargle, and you will be okay!
Machiavelli's The Prince was inspired Cesare Borgia, who is well-known as one of the most contemptible men in history. It wasn't a manifesto, it was satire.
Charles Dickens Raven has died but it is actually taxidermied and available to see at the center City branch of the Philadelphia Library in the rare book Department I've seen it multiple times as I'm in Edgar Allan Poe fan.
That's right I've literally seen the Raven from the raven. I out gothed all of you
Have you visited Rochester, Kent, England for the Dicken's festival. They have every year?
Idk why, but I was always sus of thornhill. Like I missed all the hints, but she just triggered my among us senses
The piranha in the pool is a callback to Gomez having a tank of piranha in the original series.
Did anyone else notice that the Thornhill character looks like the leprechaun from the leprechaun movies after he is resurrected?
Thornhill was the teacher. Do you mean Crackstone, because I also thought he looked a little like a leprechaun.
@@juliemcgugan1244 yes I did mean crackstone.
Knew the monster was gonna be Tyler I mean it's ALWAYS the love interest in movies and TV shows
Dont forget how she does the hangmans neck break during her dance.
Wow!
You got an awful lot more from this show than I did!! Lol
I have never actually watched The Adams Family....only the more recent animations.
As for the other Easter eggs....I had no idea!
I still thoroughly enjoyed it though!
Can't wait for a second season!
She did so well. This is now my favorite show. It's like a mix of harry potter and stranger things
I just realized that I like the new Pugsley because he reminds me of Raul Julia.
Paint it black is one of my favs!
This was a fantastically wonderful show! I totally binged it in like 2 seatings. Why did it take so long? Well I do have a full time job, hungry mouths to feed, and …….. a CAT! 😂
Did anyone else catch Thing rings the bell in the coffee shop and coffee kid comes out and says, "You rang?" like Lurch?
I laughed out loud at that bit!
This was great 👏🏾👏🏾
You can also say they referenced the movie when fester got shot by lightning.
You did all that research but missed Poe's works. The canoe names, team names and costumes of the canoe race were all based on Edgar Allan Poe's stories.
"You rang?" Is what Lesrch said in every episode of the 60's tv series
The research in this video is phenomenal
Wednesday’s hair is just like mine I have black hair, bangs, having 2 braids all the time 🖤🖤
Yes it was explained how he did the light bulb...... he was struck by lightning...
How about the fact the identity of the big bad and their weapon are spoiled by a wrong coffee order.
wait i noticed something, maybe a plot hole, or something they might bring up in season 2. there are two hydes in the woods. one of them was tyler, the other is still out there. you see when Eugene was attacked by the hyde, tylor was the the Ravan, and when wednesday realized it by her vision, i think tylor was there too, so who attacked him. did tylor leave early and i either didnt notice it or missed it?
wednesday can see into both the past and the future (ex. her vision about the farmer in a car accident), so her vision about eugene was foreshadowing the attack. eugene was running from sheer fear in the forest after seeing someone at the cave; it wasn’t until wednesday and tyler separated that the latter went after eugene
Y'all missed the 2 second dance that the origin Wednesday done. Its like a blink and you'll miss it moment
7:56 in the first versions she was Gomez' mom. then in the 91 movie they changed her to Morticias mom
Am I the only one who sees Xavier`s studio full of paintings as a reference to Lovecraft`s "Pickman`s model" ?
very keen observation
Enjoyed your analogy, good job.
I didn’t know the teacher was Christina untill after I watched it 😭😂
Also, during the dance scene at the Rave'N, if you watch closely in the part where the camera is looking at Wednesday through a crowd of people, you can see her doing the dance that we also see Wednesday dong in the 1960s black and white Addams Family
You forgot the call back to the original tv show during her dance. She briefly does the dance that tv show Wednesday did.
Is it bad that I watched the whole series in 1 day?
Nothing on the "you rang" reference. For shame.
Also fun fact for those who don't know Machiavelli was also the political adviser to the Medici's
Y’all messed the iconic Wednesday dance from the 1960s version Jenna paid big HOMAGE “The Drew”
Uriah Heep was not a "late 60s" rock band. Their debut album was released in 1970 and they still tour today!
The Poe cup teams are named after poe’s works
The fact you did this on a Thursday
LOL sorry 😭
You could have waited til tomorrow since she was born on a Friday.
@@bbsy1 oh yeah
There was another batman reference on the wall when Wednesday hid under xaviers bed (episode 2)
thank you for pointing out the uriah heep reference.
Thanks for sharing! TTFN ✌🏼
I love this show. Hope s2 would be green lit
