Yeah pretty sure you'd have a hard time on those conditions with any bike with roadtires on!
Since when does the pillion ever get on first and off last? I’ve always got on to hold the bike stable for the missus to then climb on….
You´ve got some mistakes on the video. The motorbyke you were riding was the F800GSA (Adventure) with bigger tank, suspensions and other small details. For instance, the tank is not 16L it's 24L.

Coincidentally, just four days after this video was published (on May 15th) I rode over Engineer pass starting in Silverton, CO on my F800GSA - muddy, icy, snowy and it handled perfectly, full tank, panniers and all. I definitely don't have your riding experience level but I've been riding this bike over all sorts of terrain and am constantly surprised how well it handles anything I'm brave enough to take on.
I'm surprised, I thought most people liked the under-seat tank because it lowers the center of gravity. Many including myself thought moving the tank to the traditional position on the new 750/850 was a mistake.
And he said 16L of tank and that is wrong! The adv model have 24Litres of capacity. 👍🏼
The 850gs has a 15 litre tank . And it's in the wrong place.
Bought mine 5 years ago in Atlanta.Now live in TX and have 40k miles on it.Gotta be the best purchase of my life.You couldn't give me another house but a new GS I'd snatch up in a heartbeat.I could use more h.p than my 2014 model has.I could buy another but this thing out here isn't even close to death.It'll out live me.I could put it on any showroom floor right now.
I made no mistake in buying it.Mine was a 2014.I'm at 35k miles now.It the best handling motorcycle I've ever had,and I've owned many of them.All of them had much more horses than mine.But they simply weren't as much fun.I go around off ramps in TX occasionally like nobody's business.I always enjoy reading the input from others aficionados.I haven't grown older and scared.If anything I'm more experienced and disciplined than ever-and better.But after 90 Some thing horsies I'll be glad to find the 1000,or 1100.

If im not mistaken thats an adventure f800gs so the tank is larger than 16 liters.. (24 lt I believe). Motogeo videos are great! Keep it coming!
I own one and your are correct, it's 24 L : up to 600 Km range !
Fun fact: the 800 has more max load limit then the 1200.
Just seen this comment but funny enough was just talking about this. I nearly bought a 1250 thinking it would carry a heavier load and it doesn’t !

I rode this bike as an afterthought having just ridden the North Coast 500 on an Africa Twin. I found the 800GS to be beautifully balanced - especially at slow speeds. A little slow off the mark I admit but once it got going it was fine. I think it's a little unfair to assess a bike's off road capability without the correct tyres and with panniers on the back. If the 850 is that much better then I think there will be a ton of 800GS bikes going for a great price very soon.
I thought it was a good honest review. A lot of good points raised and some good praise. Not sure why some people think this is a negative review?
I love my GS.....For going off road, it’s way more engineered than the 1200 for doing just that.
He just had a sucky rain drenched weekend, stuck in rain mode with this bike, you can hear it in his demeanor hahaha. I’d be ready to go home too

I think if the rear shock is setup right that vagueness goes away. I would increase the preload in the back little by little. In stock form the bike is restricted by airflow. Add the aftermarket pipe and K&N air filter along with air fuel mixture adjuster and runs cooler and much more torque. I agree about the heavy clutch. I am considering upgrading to Magura hydraulic system but they are hard to find due to limited production. Also for anyone considering this bike it can vibe a bit until employing the smokeless 2 cycle oil added to each tank of gas. Add about an ounce and the injectors and top end quiet way down. These mods make the bike dream to ride.
If you add fuel spoofer like AF Xied, aftermarket pipe and K&N air filter and it really improves performance.
Please review the Royal Enfield Himalayan whenever you can. It would be great to hear your opinion on that machine.
I really miss my F800GS (2013) but despite the comfort seat it was a bit cramped and weather protection not that good. I never felt a lack of torque or power.. Mine flew along, 2 up with full luggage and fuel.
The larger GS is a very high bar to clear, so it's not too surprising that it feels better offroad (regardless of tires). Great review.
You were very generous with your comments towards the 800. I rode one for 2 years and in the end was very disappointed in it. With a full load of luggage (~60 lbs of camping gear) it would struggle to get to 80 mph and had a lot of vibration. Off-road it was barely "ok". The front wheel ABS was absolute garbage and almost got me killed several times. I usually rode with everything turned off, but if you turn the bike off then back on it will reset, so if you aren't prepared for it, the extremely long stopping distance is very unsafe. Then there's the suspension and poor frame design. The front end is not adjustable and is a closed cartridge. With anyone over 150lbs it will bottom early and often. The rear shock mount is a terrible design with a small, under engineered bolt that easily bends, which in turn bends the frame and can total the bike off not replaced with an aftermarket support. The wheels are also very soft and bend from the lightest of hits. Overall, it's just not meant for what they advertise it to be. With a single rider, and no luggage, it's a great bike to commute around town with. Its also capable of very light offroad use, think graded gravel roads. Anything more than that and you pushing it.
Should have mentioned that the seat height makes this unsuitable for shorties. I'm 5'9" and found this a bit nerve-wracking on uneven roads. My very experienced 5'6" companion has plenty of strength but managed to drop it twice
This is the most damning review I've heard from Jamie, and he's ridden some questionable bikes.
Great information but buddy you can't do a video where you're getting audio from a factory floor or a garage like that because the audio echoes just make it really hard to listen to
Your wrong, this is an adventure for a start. The fuel tank lowers the centre of gravity improving handling. And to try and review a bike with a strong off road capability without the correct tyres voids your opinion.
Do it again when you can get the facts correct and proper tyres. This was no where near up to your usual high standards of vid.
I agree, I own a 800 GSA and this review was amateur-ish to say the least.
If you don't have the right tires by your own admission then you can't have an objective opinion on its off road capabilities.Tires are everything!Suppose you ran the local 5k fun run in army boots.That would not be the day to opine on your athletic prowess or lack there of.
Honestly, this review was a bit disappointing: this is a F800 GS ADVENTURE, not just a F800GS. Being a "GS adventure" model means it comes with some extra stuff: lower crash bars for example, but the most important is the bigger fuel tank (24liters vs the standard 16). It's a GREAT bike for offroad, and having the fuel tank in the rear improves both handling in tight turns AND motricity when off-road. About the tyres, I agree with the other guys: you simply can't go offroad with street tyres and complain about it, end of the story.
Another thing I didn't understand: You said that with the panniers, the passenger has to hop on the bike first? Excuse me, WHAT? It's always the rider that hops on the bike FIRST, and this GS makes no exception.

When reviewing the scrambler desert sled
you struggled to get off the bike because you were literally getting off of said bike wrong. if you stand up on the right peg and swing your left leg over to the right its much easier to get on and off. I'm 5"8 and would barely be able to get off the conventional way but getting off that way is stupid easy.

How can I transition from bicycle to motorcycle? What's the best advice? Where to begin?... My car is old and has its days counting, I really don't want the hassle that comes with getting and owning a new car, but I like to travel around and escape to the small towns on weekends, I do it on my bicycle already but a motorcycle can take me further and faster

Find a place that gives lessons, that provides the bike, helmet, etc. I did that, 2 days of instruction in a parking lot and you got your license if you passed. Used it as a way of figuring out if I'd like riding. That was 13 years and a lot of motorcycles ago.

It is petrol, not gas (before anyone says it gas is not short for gasoline, gas is a word and we do not power our bikes with gas).

Is it true that the GS1200 has 32kpl fuel consumption?
No the R1200GS is getting around 18-20km per liter (when touring motorway)
A 1200cc motorcycle will NEVER get 32kpl or 3.1 l/100km. That's a crazy good fuel economy even for smaller bikes, let alone a 1200. The only bike I've ever heard of having that good a fuel economy (and better) is Honda NC750X DCT. My Versys 650 can maybe get 4.2 l/100km when I'm taking it easy, usually 4.4 (22.7kpl).
So no, it's not true for GS1200 and it's not true for ANY motorcycle present on the market today (above 500cc) other than the aforementioned Honda. Whoever says differently is misinformed or straight up lying.
The BMW R1200GS which is 1200cc, is not so bad. Look at spritmonitor.de (www.spritmonitor.de/de/uebersicht/6-BMW/629-R_1200.html?powerunit=2) and you can see people run almost the same mileage as your Versys, even though the engine is twice as big and the machine probably also is heavier :)

It's the F800GS Adventure, it has 24L tank capacity, the side paniers are the OEM BMW and not TOURATECH, not capable off road with road tires...

Robin Mario yes..its all depend on $..the GS850 is my dream Bike,..i find it better than its Big brother.
850 has a new engine with 270° firing order (think 90° Vtwin), should be a lot more characterful. The GS-ADV model should bring the fuel capacity where it needs to be.
The 800 seems so bland and unremarkable.
