Good vid! Yes, oil weight was because of CAFE standards. 5w30 was the factory fill and is what Ford recommended on the 99-00 models. They went to 5w20 in 01 to meet fed regulations on fuel mileage. Either will work obviously. Personal choice, as you said but the initial design of the motor was to run 5w30. Denso is the OEM manufacturer of the coils. About $10 each cheaper than Motorcraft, Exact same coil minus the MC sticker. Porting is interesting. The very first person to port a Lightning blower was Ernie Elliott, (Bill's brother). On a 99, he wanted to see what he could get out of the stock truck with a few "tricks". Saw the article in A Ford racing parts catalog long ago. Wade Embree started doing it as a business way back when after that, then Bob Stiegemeir picked it up from Wade and started advertising it and made it mainstream. Then came everyone else, Brian (posi), Joker, etc. Eric (Korn) ported a blower for me several years ago. Outstanding work. It looked pretty much like Elliott's did. Eric didn't copy that design, he just has a good knowledge and understanding of airflow. It screamed and picked up a lot of power over the ported unit I had been running. Good work on the video.
Thanks for the additional facts, on oil and coil. Just about to do a solid Tune Up, with some of the obvious deletes needed. I’ve got a 2000 w/97k. I’ve watched his videos and learned allot for a car guy of 40 years. This being my 1st Supercharged Toy. And my final, may buy a second one. After all the Cobra’s I’ve owned, Lightning’s are much easier to get in and out of. Twisted logic I know. Any thoughts on my direction ? I’d like to do a #5 pulley and bump it up slightly(staying in the safer zone). 4-425RWHP reasonable ?
@@shatteredglasstheglassman9625 I have a 2000 too, with 106k on it. I have an 8# pulley on mine. A few mods, injectors, pumps, heat exchanger, long tubes... basic bolt on stuff really. Had it dyno'd a while back, 477/558. Sure isn't the fastest thing in town, or the fastest thing I own but it sure is fun to drive and it's fairly rare when I see another one. Nice, solid ride. What your plan is sounds very reasonable. I had a 4# on mine for about a year and it was putting down 421rwhp. Never had an issue. I've owned it now for 12 years and have never had a single problem.
How much H.P. do you think it would take to "Smoke a Pork Butt"? Oink-Oink brother...lol.... That was a right good video. The oil recommendation, plugs and OEM Motorcraft Coil pack....spot on! I actually used Motorcraft 5W/20 synthetic blend...and Motorcraft Syn blend (different blends depending) in the Pig, including their filters. Plugs on motor, yep, Motorcraft, Nitrous, NGK....Guys, I know a little about oils/fuels/filters, spent 27 years analyzing oil, hydraulic fuel, and all gasoline/diesel fuels utilizing advanced Spectrometric Oil Analysis equipment, viscosity/wear testing, particles testing, ferrous monitoring, infrared spectroscopy, lubricant conditions ,wear debris, spark/octane testing and much more......Ford Motorcraft syn-blend/oil filters are really good for the money....I should know, have tested virtually every brand on the market......
Nice man! 🤘 I'm digging it, do more of these! Here's my questions for next video how much horsepower do they make stock vs pullied? Dyno tune vs email tune, what is better?
I have a 2001 Harley Davidson 5.4 but it’s not super charged I plan on putting a 2002 lightning Engine 5.4 what mods what I need to have a fit into the Harley truck
If you get your hands on one they are so worth it. It was already hard to test drive. Months on "the list". The 2004 Sonic Blue was way overpriced. I cannot change the red one.i want red. Best purchase ever.
In order to get a lightning tuned, do I need to get a aftermarket tuner like the sct or can the person doing the dyno and tune just upload directly to the trucks computer?
Question, I recently changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, coil packs, and fuel injectors in my 2000 lightning. The fuel injectors claimed to deliver stock volume gas. I am now getting P1132 and P1152 codes, running rich. My spark plug gap at 38. I have stock O2 sensors. Can you give me any suggestions to prevent these codes from triggering?
Most likely just needs everything turned off in the tune. If you have a tuner already, tell them and they can shut off all the now unused systems in the tune, if not, you’ll need to get a new tune to do so
Don't recommend you run a 6lb lower with a stock maf at all, very likely to max out the maf, and blow the motor. I'd get the sct ba2600, and a good tune, from a Lightning specific tuner. Ask the tuner about plugs/gap, they will have a preference. Most likely, ngk tr6 at .032-.034. But again, don't run the stock maf, that's playing with fire
lightningforceperformance.com/belt-length-chart/ You will definitely need the correct belt, the tensioner isn’t designed to account for that much. Here’s a chart, or just google “Ford Lightning belt chart” and they have it listed for what lower/upper combo, and add .5 to that length for every idler you changed from 90 to 100mm, and if you have an aux idler as well.
Love your videos. An Amazon seller tried burning me on counterfeit OEM coils, luckily Ford Global Brand Protection exchanged em for me and went to town on Amazon... The seller is still there, 4 years later lol... not funny.
I get mine at Sunoco, but not entirely sure the "brand" matters...I have tried different stations, and found one that seems to give me the most consistently good gas, and stick with that one. For example, even different Sonoco's have made my truck run different, but certain locations seem to have consistently good gas. So I have my go-tos and just always go there.
Thanks man, I appreciate it! 🤘 yeah the jlt is a nice one too for sure, I almost went with that elbow for my jlp, but stumbled across and c&l and snagged that up
I would go with the nitto 555g2s for sure, they are a great tire. And if you need more traction in the back, the 555r2 compliments them well, just keep in mind, the 555r2 is a radial, and won’t last as long. Good question though, I’ll include that in the next video 🤘
Yup, from my understanding they are pretty much identical, so the engine/trans should be the same. There’s just a few small differences between the trucks (alittle less boost, tune, ect).
that'd be about the same as a 6lb lower, so it'd be safe with a good tune and sct maf. But i'd run the 6lb lower over that setup. Smaller upper will introduce more belt slip, you'd have less with the 6lb lower. I'll include this in the next one tho, good question.
It's not required, and you'll get some gains, but to get it's full potential, its recommended to get retuned. I'll include this in the next one, and go into detail on that though, good question
With higher miles, I’d do a 4lb with a safe tune, just so you can enjoy it and not risk pushing the motor. It’s not worth it, trust me. Mine has sat broke almost longer than it’s ran 😬 lol
Now you got me freaked out. My tuner guy recommended a 6lb pulley and .025 gap on the plugs with 195,000 miles. I don't always race it but I like to put my foot in it when I merge onto the freeway though
I have no personal experience with them, but I have friends that have all had negative experiences with woodbine. I personally would go with either Eric Korn (the best hands down, just a bit of a wait) or JDM Engineering. Either one of those are solid options
Love the Channel, new subscriber. I do Not own a lightning, however i am doing a Lightning Supercharger swap onto my New Edge Mustang. Picked up a Low Mileage 2008 GT500 5.4 Short Block From Brent at Brenspeed and found a good deal on a ported lightning setup. Only Issue i worry about for mine is the Compression ratio as the GT500 has -13cc pistons and the lightning were -17-18 but im sure whatever tuner i go with can work with that. Anyway thanks and will be watching lots of your videos for info!
Of course, I recommend keeping the stock pulley on the blower anyways. If your gonna change any pulley to Increase boost, change the lower. More surface area for less belt slip.
I heard that you can slap a supercharger on a regular 99-03 f150 with the 5.4, like for me I have a ‘00 f150 5.4 with 190k miles and I wanna go fast, you recommend me slapping a supercharger on mine with a safe tune?
Hey my brother thank you very much for the video that helped out a lot!! My name is George I was wondering where do you guys if you guys meet up anywhere I live in Pembroke Pines Can I have a red 2000 but I never really see too many of these things on the road
We have a BIG Lightning meet once a year, normally in Florida, that 80+ trucks come to from all over, and smaller meets throughout the year with some local trucks. If you go through my videos, you'll see some of the meets, and what we do. This year's got nixed because of Covid, so it ended up being small, but next years is in the works and going to be HUGE! Join the facebook groups, "southeastern lightnings and harley trucks" is a good one, meets are posted there. But ill make a video when details are announced as well.
I don't, I leave that to the pros lol 😆 But Jim Jr at JDM Engineering is the one to talk to about that, they are the best with these engines. The wait can sometimes be long, but well worth it. Tell him I sent ya

You'll need the Sct x4 handheld tuner. That's what let's the computer talk to the truck.

I am now getting P1132 and P1152 codes, running rich. My spark plug gap at 38. I have stock O2 sensors. Can you give me any suggestions to prevent these codes from triggering?

Thanks,
Most likely just needs everything turned off in the tune. If you have a tuner already, tell them and they can shut off all the now unused systems in the tune, if not, you’ll need to get a new tune to do so
Nice video 👍 can't wait for next episode l
For the spark plugs what gap do you do bro with 6lbs lower pulley, stock upper and stock MAF AIR SENSOR ?
Don't recommend you run a 6lb lower with a stock maf at all, very likely to max out the maf, and blow the motor. I'd get the sct ba2600, and a good tune, from a Lightning specific tuner. When I install my 6lb. lower, will I need a different belt size or will the tensioner still pick up the slack on the stock belt?
lightningforceperformance.com/belt-length-chart/
You will definitely need the correct belt, the tensioner isn’t designed to account for that much. Here’s a chart, or just google “Ford Lightning belt chart” and they have it listed for what lower/upper combo, and add .5 to that length for every idler you changed from 90 to 100mm, and if you have an aux idler as well.

Yikes, yeah i've seen horror stories about amazon selling shit or counterfit coils. And they never do anything about it, too lucritive.
If you can find Delphi coils they are who makes the motorcraft coils. Sometimes they are a little cheaper too.
What shocks and lowering kit do y’all use ??
In the same boat myself, idk what I’m gonna do to lower it yet. Video will be coming soon tho, cause that’s next on the list
thank you waht cam i shot instal in the harley daily drive
What gas would u recommend putting i know it's premium only but like from shell or 76 from where ???
I get 93 at BP

Thanks man, I appreciate it! 🤘 yeah the jlt is a nice one too for sure, I almost went with that elbow for my jlp, but stumbled across and c&l and snagged that up
Fantastic content! What would you recommend to replace my stock 2002 ford lightning tires with? I’m looking for the best on handling. Thanks!
I would go with the nitto 555g2s for sure, they are a great tire. And if you need more traction in the back, the 555r2 compliments them well, just keep in mind, the 555r2 is a radial, and won’t last as long. Good question though, I’ll include that in the next video 🤘
I was hoping to find out is the L an HD the same engine and Tran🥺?
Yup, from my understanding they are pretty much identical, so the engine/trans should be the same. There’s just a few small differences between the trucks (alittle less boost, tune, ect).
Is it a bad idea to run a 2.7upper and a 4lbs lower on a stock block?
that'd be about the same as a 6lb lower, so it'd be safe with a good tune and sct maf. But i'd run the 6lb lower over that setup. Smaller upper will introduce more belt slip, you'd have less with the 6lb lower. I'll include this in the next one tho, good question.
Preciate the info man, definitely will keep that in mind👍🏽

Thanks for another great video. Also you can mention proper torque on the spark plugs to prevent thread stripping.
I’ll be doing a video for changing plugs very soon, as well as how to read, and tune your truck according to how your plugs look.
What's your opinion with woodbine motorsports tuning my lightning?
I have no personal experience with them, but I have friends that have all had negative experiences with woodbine. I personally would go with either Eric Korn (the best hands down, just a bit of a wait) or JDM Engineering. Either one of those are solid options
@@DebtLife_Projects awesome thanks man!

Pretty much same exact motor. So yes, should work as far as I know. May just need a retune afterwords
