The Philippines is a friend to all countries and people. The Philippines and China have a long and deep history of friendship and camaraderie. The Sangley Rebellion in 1603 is evidence of a strong Filipino-Chinese bond against foreign aggression. Today, the biggest Chinatown in the world is in Binondo, Manila. The Philippines and the United States also have strong friendship. Despite atrocities during the 48 years of American colonization, the friendship between Americans and Filipinos also strengthened during the closing years of World War II. War is unnecessary because territorial conflicts can be solved through diplomacy. Look at Ukraine. Its commoners, not the ruling class, are the ones who are mostly bearing the consequences of war. In history, those who keep promoting war are often those who never step onto the actual battlefield. China and the Philippines have a golden opportunity to show the world that there are better outcomes when we give peace and diplomacy a chance.

@@pjw3438 This dispute blew up around 2013 when China suddenly started sending warships to the region and built artificial/military based islands in South China Sea without any consultation with its neighbours and just forcefully pushed away fishermen from different southeast asian countries. This happened before Duterte’s office, where his predecessor, Benigno aquino III, denounced China for it and brought the issue to the international court, which China lost and they reacted by sending more warships and doubling down on their build up of military bases in the area. If that’s not bullying and provocation then I don’t know what new lies and fake news the CCP will come up next.

    • @ryanspinoza6586
      @ryanspinoza6586 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

@@pjw3438 So what I’m getting at is that there was already high tension a decade ago, but after learning a strong approach against China wasn’t enough, Philippines’ previous president, Duterte, decided to take a submissive approach instead by being very close with China to the point of kissing Xi Jinping’s shoes. He thought this would stop China from claiming more but instead, they took advantage of this opportunity to claim more waters/islands closer to Philippines. And now the current new administration or president realised that a soft approach with China was just as bad, it’s now reversing back to its former, original firm approach and decided to step back from China and side with US again, which majority of the Filipinos have always wanted to begin with but Duterte alone. The Chinese government simply messed up by pushing their luck with Duterte thinking the Filipino people wouldn’t notice them take advantage of Duterte’s bias and boot-licking of China. So it’s important to learn that this issue has always been a seriously heated topic here in Philippines, it’s just that the previous president refused to acknowledge the people’s concerns more seriously due to his close friendship with Xi Jinping.

Philippines territory was accurately and precisely delineated under the 1898 Treaty of Paris, which transferred the Spanish colonies of the Philippine archipelago to the United States. The US accordingly paid $20 million for its Philippines territory. That territory, accurately mapped by the use of coordinates, did not include the islands of the South China Sea.
The Philippine's response to this is to raise the Treaty of Washington, which was an attempt by the US to amend the Treaty of Paris. However, the Treaty of Washington does not explicitly mention any of the islands of the SCS, nor does it provide any mapped coordinates that cover these islands as was done on the original Treaty of Paris.
The original American drafters of these treaties did not intend to include the SCS islands. How do I know this? Because the US never made a claim on those islands as part of the Philippines territory under its governance.
What is the supporting evidence for this? Well, Japan invaded the Spratlys and other SCS islands in 1938, if the US considered such islands as part of its Philippines overseas territory (under the treaty of Washington), it would have justifiably declared war on Japan in 1938.
The fact that the US declared war on Japan, after Pearl Harbor in 1941, 3 years after Japan invaded the SCS islands is very strong evidence that it did not consider SCS islands to be part of its Philippines territory.
In 1946, the United States transferred sovereignty of its Philippines territory to an independent Philippines. Ex-colonies are delineated by the sovereign territory controlled and mapped by their colonial rulers as such the Philippines cannot extend its territory beyond the territories legitimately granted to it at independence by the United States.

it is part of the Philippines under the spanish rule, those islands we're included in then 1734 Murillo Velarde Map, the official map of spain! the second treaty in paris included every other islands that we're outside the borders drawn in first treaty. The 1734 Murillo Velarde Map clearly indicate those islands as part of the Philippine Island territory. China have zero baseless claim over these islands as the inhabitants and colonizers of the Philippines have discovered and named them first! Even Chinas first and last dynasty maps never include the spratlys and Scarborough, no drawings nor names, China only drawn hainan as their most southernmost territory! even china's constitution only claim paracels, no south east asian islands! No evidence of discovery! No evidence of naming those islands! No evidence of habitation! The only thing backing China's claim is their naval force and bullying tactics!

@@QuantumBits0 Spain did not grant the Philippines independence. You cannot claim Spanish colonial territory because there was no transfer of sovereignty between modern-day Philippines and Spain.
However, there was a transfer - at independence, of territory between the United States and the Philippines.
Every colonized country's border is delineated by its last colonial ruler, Malaysia by British territory on the Malay peninsula; Vietnam by French territory on the Mekong.
Just because Spain ruled you once does not give you rights to Spanish territory unless there is a document of transfer. The only document of transfer linking the Philippines to Spanish colonial territory is the Treaty of Paris, and that territory was accurately delineated.
Jamaica was ruled by Spain before the British. No one would take seriously Jamaica making a territorial claim on Spanish colonial territories like Cuba, Puerto Rico, etc. because modern-day Jamaica's document of territorial transfer is from the British.

    • @JA-pn4ji

@@erdash5673 Those maps show Spanish colonial possessions. They have nothing to do with post-independence Philippines because Spain did not hand over or transfer its colonial territories to modern-day Philippines.

The South China Sea serves as an extensive fishing ground, offering potential benefits if nations can peacefully collaborate to harness its resources. However, a significant challenge arises as Marcos seeks to leverage China's involvement to declare Martial Law, furthering their agenda of charter change and term extension. Additionally, it's important to highlight that this leader has frozen assets in the United States. The lack of unity among the Filipino populace coupled with the pervasive control exerted by the Marcos government exacerbates the situation.

    • @rainieresguerra6519

China is using force to steal Philippine territories and marine resources. Yet you put the blame on the US and the Philippines for the rising tensions in the SCS/WPS and invent false narrative like Marcos Jr planning to declare martial law to extend his grip on power.
Whether Marcos Jr really wants to protect their billions in the US (if any) it doesn't erase the fact that China is engaging in thuggery and thievery in the SCS/WPS, and it is the duty of Marcos Jr to protect Philippine interests.
