Accessible City Bus Horror Story!

People need to do better when working with people with disabilities! This was so scary & unfortunately not the first OR the last time it will happen..
Paratransit is an accessible city bus put in place to transport people with disabilities who have limitations that prevent them from using the regular public transport. That could be vision/hearing/physical/cognitive impairments. ANYthing that deals with disability limitation reasons. They take you “door to door” Ex) Picking me up in front of my house and taking me to the front of any destination I’m going to. It is very helpful & a wonderful system truly… but the logistics & people behind the scenes are the problem. 3 HUGE examples for ya:
1. The people who make our rides are extremely rude & nasty EVERYtime you can’t even excuse it as a bad day, they are ALWAYS nasty.
2. If you miss your bus for any reason even emergency they DONT care they will put a mark on your record. Too many marks and you could be banned for a week up to a month or more, again even if it truly wasn’t your fault. AND they also leave you stranded and don’t care if you have no way home. Personal experience 🙃
3. I have had some amazing drivers with pal, so not all..but majority of the drivers don’t care about the passengers. How they treat us, talk, drive and act, it’s horrible & they need to be retrained at least once a year in my opinion. SOMEthing to remind them they’re working with disabled passengers NO SPEEDING and learning how to do the seatbelts… it’s amazing how confused they act when you request to wear it - most don’t even ask if you want it and don’t put it on you!
I reported this situation when it happened 2 weeks ago and I still have yet to hear back from anyone on what happened with my report. I’m calling again today - stay tuned for the update! I really hope something is done about this situation & the future of Paratransit in general.

I am sorry that happened to you when I rode para transit a few weeks ago with one of my friends litterarly right after the lady turned off my street to turn down another street then she had to turn down 2 more streets after that to get my friend I always hang out with and before we got my friend she slammed on the brakes really hard while turning she hit a curb on the street and the seatbelt came un down on me I went falling right off the seat and the driver hurried up and stopped the bus when she heard me fall on the floor of the bus she was lucky I didn’t get hurt she asked if I was ok I told her I’m ok once I got up from the floor I went and sat down on another seat and that seatbelt stayed on me the whole time before my friend got on the bus I told the driver I said to her nicely you don’t need to speed like that at all I said it to her nicely she tried telling me she wasnt going really fast and then when my friend and I got to the mall I explained to the lady what had happened on the phone she said ok we will look at the camera on the bus and get back to you about it a min or 2 after I got off the phone with them they called me back and said sorry the driver was speeding so fast we will re train her
