American Percussion's " Slit Marimba Snare Kit "

"Slit Marimba Snare Kit ".On this kit you can see the slit marimba snare drum with a lot of tongues on it. This is the focal point of the set. The small ride tom and the bass drum have large semi - circular tongues on them. The floor tom has a few artfully cut tongues which give a much lower tone than the slit marimba snare. ALL of the drums have conventional drum heads on the bottom of the drums to help make the wood tongues on the top resonate better. All of the drum have snares on them to be turned off if you desire a normal wood sound. The disc on the hi-hat is a honey combed shaker/ wood block combo with the beater just above . While listening to the video you will hear a slight cuica sound which is turning the screw on the shaker clutch just enough so it will slightly rubs the hi-hat rod as it goes up and down. This was my first attempt at playing the kit. I just wanted to share this new concept with everyone. Recorded @ sonart recording studio.com. Patent Pending !

This is getting stuck in my head. It's evocative of some sort of subterranean city.
That red cymbal with the rivets is really unique sounding, I'm curious how it makes that sound.
