- This cajon Snare drum measures about 12" wide by 6" high and has a maple shell with a cherry wood batter head. There are two sound ports to let the sound. The drum is a lot more sensitive than I thought it would be at first. That's why I played the drum with mallets and hands to show some sort of dynamic range. Recorded @ sonart recording studio.com.

Brian Melick - Drums featuring my beautiful American Percussion Instruments by Ken Lovelett - Ken Lovelett I frikken LOVE LOVE LOVE your Cajon Snare!!!!
I like much more when played with your hands!
yes, the drum is it's a very versatile instrument so you can play it many ways. Thanks, Ken
@@americanpercussioninstruments yeah it seems so, I mean I do t think I’d play it as a snare drum but as a hand drum or with the mallets I think it has its place! Very nice!
Very interesting idea and nice sound. How did you join the wood batter head to the tambour? Glue or some kind of screw? Thank you in advance!
glue
One more question. Did vou sand the edges removing te 45 degrees?
glue
@@americanpercussioninstruments what kind of wood do you use?
@@pacificostriker cherry, walnut, mahogany ,hickory oak, etc.
Can you play the cajon snare drum with sticks
You could but I don't think that it would sound that good. It would probably be too bright sounding .
@@americanpercussioninstruments But with some Vic Firth practice universal tips
@@backstories933 maybe so ! you'd have to try it
This makes me wonder if this is only used as a snare drum, or if you can play it like a regular cajon, with kick/bass, and snare sounds. After watching you play it with your hands, I think it can be played like a regular cajon.
yes, it's very versatile, Ken
Nothing to do with being a cajon. It's just a snare drum with a plywood head.
a cajon is just a box. Watch the whole video!!!!!!
You're right, this is far better approach because of sensitivity and sound.
@@americanpercussioninstruments Way more than just a box.
@@rickschuman2926 but it's not... did you fall for thr cajone meme? this had to be cope.
