  • "Average life expectancy is now in the 80's in most developed countries, so we are losing out on 15-20 years of life for most people".
In episode two of Wired UK's four-part documentary series, we head to New York City to talk to Dr. Nir Barzilai and Dr. Ana Maria Cuervo, directors at the Institute for Ageing Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, about their extensive and detailed work on the biological, physiological and functional processes of ageing. We also discuss the institute's exploration into what genes are resilient to the negative aspects of ageing, as well as what impact the so-called 'miracle drug' Metformin could potentially have.

That's impressive. My wife's grandmother is 89 and still lives on her own and does her own errands and shopping and flies here every year to visit for Christmas. I find it amazing how some can be like them, then other people are 65 and are far less healthy mentally or physically.

    • @jesswinter

@@booyabooya5162 this is simply untrue. There are many young people dying from Covid and having their lives completely changed. I know SEVERAL and even know a 45 yo woman who died. Another 50 ish year old guy I know had to get a lung transplant and likely only has a year of life left. A 20-some year old girl I know from college can barely walk into class without passing out. Please stop acting like this doesn’t affect people. I have seen it first hand. If 100 million people get something and only 1% of them die, that is still 1 million people. Just keep that in mind.

I saw a YT video about the toxicity of Metformin. I think it was a 60 Minutes segment, but not sure? After years & years of taking it, I felt like I was indeed being poisoned by it. I stopped taking it for a couple of years. Now I’m back on it. Idk if it has anti-aging benefits, but I take it to help control my Type 2 diabetes. If there are bonus effects to taking it “Great!”, if not, than so be it. To be honest, I don’t really feel any better/younger while taking it, but maybe it works on a more cellular level to help slow the aging process, idk?
I have heard of doctors prescribing it to those with Syndrome X. HBP, high cholesterol, & borderline diabetes. They say it can help prevent full blown diabetes if taken early along with diet modification. I’ve also heard that women with fertility issues have taken it to help them conceive a child. I think it helps with fertility when the woman has PCOS which are small cysts on the ovaries. Insulin signaling along with other hormones, plays a very important role in the ability to conceive. Best wishes to all those facing these auto immune conditions, that can be so detrimental to one’s overall health!🙏”Health is your wealth!” as they say.

If anything, the people who this could be addressed to would be the scientists in the field. It's obviously illusory that they will take this into consideration or that there's even a viable research path to what I'm proposing, but the alternative I would - personally - like would be to stay physically and mentally, say, 20-30 until the end of a normal lifespan. "Euthanasia" doesn't exactly help with that and is a facetious supposition in the first place, because suicide is a far more onerous option than letting life run its course.
