    I think you should have used a tap chart to pick the drill size. It looks like the hole you threaded for the fitting it too loose. I suggest you look for a right angle fitting with the proper thread size and pitch so you can screw into the engine case. Your setup will no doubt leak.

    Hope you alloy plug didn't crack and break off , sparkplugs are 14x1.25 , you can always easy flow a ⅛ socket to a hollowed out sparkplug body .

      Thanks for watching! Plug didn't crack or break, but you raise a good point. Perhaps others who watch this will take that route instead.

    Hi men. GREAT WORK. I have a question thought. on ralentí how much PSI your bike shows? and what is the maximum PSI your oil pump generates?

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Mine starts out around 40 psi at startup cold, then drops to about 20 when warm at idle. As I rev the engine it increases roughly 10 psi/1000 rpm but the higher I go the lower that rate of increase. I've never seen it above 60, but I don't race this engine that much.

      @@UrbanMonkTV Thank you for anaswering. I asked because i am intalling a oil pressure sensor to my Yamaha FZ6, that uses the same R6 engine, so i don't really know the idle norminal pressure so i can choose wisely the oil pressure switch, do you think 1Bar (14ish PSI) would be a good selection for it to be active at idle?
      thank you.

      Thank you for watching! Yes I painted the entire engine with VHT paint. Looks great but is not as fuel resistant as original so fuel leaks from carbs (which can happen from time to time on these old bikes) require some touch up.

    kerosene diesel oil and alcohol are excellent lubricants for cutting aluminum threads

    Hello Urban Monk, your videos have been informative and useful for my GS650 project, thank you. I'm a third done with this mini gauge mount project. Currently looking for the tap. Your other video on this mini gauge, you give the metric thread count for the bolt itself. Do you recall the size tap you used for threading the bolt where the brass elbow would insert? I watched the video over and over hoping to hear the tap size (5:00 minute mark). Once again, enjoy your videos.

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad I could help. The thread size is a standard NPT size here in the US. Not sure where you are located, but I did need to purchase the tap specially for this. My tap and die kit didn't come with it.

    Should’ve put it in a socket then clamped the socket down in the vice to tap it. Protects it and keeps it from becoming oblong.

      I may try that approach next time. Though I didn't deform mine. Thanks for watching!

  • @moarmoto9

    I have heard that you can slot cut two nuts to make a C shape then thread these onto the bolt and use these to clamp in the vice without damaging the thread. Although I've not tried it myself yet.

    I know this is old but a 14x1.25 male to female bung would be the part you'd want to not have to fabricate something like this.

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I don't recall my logic at the time unfortunately. Knowing me it was either total cost being lower this way or I just wanted to have fun fabbing the part.

    you taped in the wrong direction bud, threads facing to your right, tape under wrap over. that way when you tighten the threads in, the tape is being spun opposite the direction of wrap. otherwise you are essentially unraveling the tape as you tighten the piece.

      @@UrbanMonkTV idk but that oil pressure gauge was an engine saver if u ask me, to suggest, you have the option of using hydraulics-use flared fittings and copper tubing with cladding+mountings on it to relocate wherever reasonable you want the gauge to be so you can see it easier. Kudos to your effort though and nice thinking

    Could I do this with my 1980 Suzuki GS 450? Do I also have an oil galley access port? I want an oil pressure gauge too! Nice video! I will be posting a valve adjustment video for my GS 450, once I start my YT channel! Go_Mor Engineering will be the name.
