Hi Friends, I hope you´re doing marvellously well! I´m really excited about today´s video: I´m interviewing Grammy winning Producer and Mixing Engineer Cameron Webb. Cameron has been the producer and mixer for Motörhead for many years, until the tragic death of lead-singer Lemmy last year. He tells us about key moments in his career and the story of how he first met Motörhead: He almost blew his chance of working with them! Fortunately he got the gig and went on to build a long-lasting relationship with the band. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
The series 80 and 80b make things sound better just running in the line input. The mic pres really make me smile. You can really hear the low shelf eq on the kick on appetite for destruction. It's very colored and distinctive.
Being creative involves finding a balance between letting go while at the same time holding it all together so we actually get somewhere worth going. Imagine heading into the studio with solid ideas and both these guys are there to bring out your best. Cameron's comment, "Be creative do stupid stuff . . . " speaks to the need of letting our personality come through regardless of what gear we have or don't have.
Cameron’s great. I’m 40 now. My old band had him produce our records. I was 19 then. I’ve also recorded at maple in my late 20’s. Great producer. We butted heads a couple times. But he was always there for me when I needed a friend to talk to.
Clarifying, to give credit where it is due. That record in my late 20,s was produced by Sergio Chavez at Cameron’s studio. Sergio doesn’t get enough credit for the work he does with Cameron. Miss those guys.
I recently worked on an album doing string and key arrangements with some cats and I was bugging them to let me mix the album. They said they had a guy. His name is Cameron Webb, Im like, "never heard of him let me try". So they send me a mix back that he did and Im like "wow, ok, good on you guys, this guy has skills" and then a few weeks later I run into this interview and I was so stoked to see it and find out more about Cameron Webb. What a cool guy and definitely a GREAT mixer and producer. Thanks for this!
This was such a fantastic watch. Cameron was so into talking about his gear, how it came about, and being a punk rock fan was rad to hear about bands I love leaving their gear at the studio etc. So bloody good! Cool hearing the Pantera kick drum sample / delay / tape head trick! Oh and also, it was a Dimebag pedal! 10/10 👌👌👌
Just saw this. I think Cameron is great, both as producer and humble guy, and love that he and Motorhead got on so great and made so many great albums (I loved Inferno and Motorizer the best). Anyone or anything that made Lemmy happy is great by me. But as an admittedly non-objective Motorhead fan, I quibble with the 90's comments at 7:05. Bastards, Sacrifice and Overnight Sensation were from the 90's. Lemmy said Sacrifice was his favorite on many occasions. Lots of fans think Bastards is their best or one of. I'm not a producer, but Bastards SOUNDS great too. So the 90's were very uneven, but far from all bad. Mikky D rejuvenated them for awhile, kind of like Cameron did later. Thanks for the video, it's really wonderful. I wish Cameron would write an appendix for "Motorhead In the Studio", covering last 3 or 4 albums not in first edition.
So, I don't want you to take this as an insult because I love your content but these type of videos are so freaking calming, I tend to fall asleep haha. I guess because it just feels like such a relaxed and comfortable environment!
Warren eludes to the Left and Right Eventide thing. Eventide classic setting Left and right 1.01 and 99. One side slightly sharp and the other side slightly flat. It does have a random quality to it. You've heard it on tons of stuff from the 70's and early 80's. Nice job Warren!
Hannes Hagenauer thanks ever so much! Yes, I was a little afraid of the 2 hours length! Haha but people seem to like it ok! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Cameron obviously did a great job, several times, but "We Are Motorhead" (2000) is still probably the best-sounding album with the best songs. Many of those tracks became Motorhead's classics.
It took me 3 days to get through this video, LOL! But I loved it. Always love seeing a man and his boxes, especially those with tubes and things of days gone by, that are still musical and inspiring today. Great episode, always looking forward to the next Produce Like A Pro, one of the best things on youtube for people like me.
I listened to the motorhead Bad magic album, 2015 and it made me like the band for like the first time! Seriously awesome work Cameron did, its pushed to the limit still sounding great and substantial, noth thrashy at all. Many modern rock album sound vibe-less but not this, its like somebody is finnaly standing on the old rockalbums shoulders and actually taking it to new heights! Thank you.
Agreed Casper! Cameron brought the band back to the band I loved when I was a kid! His albums with them are truly amazing! That's why I was extremely excited to interview him! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Casper that is the best complement I've heard in a long time. Its good to see that people still notice the efforts to achieve records with feel and style
The JCM900 has the 5881 sticker on the front, so it has 6L6s not EL34s, and sound very different. I have the 6L6 version and prefer those over the EL version, there is a big difference. And the Ignite A War Against You album sounds incredible!
Hi Thunder House Studio, thanks very much for that information! I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I love the tone-hunting options talk. He seems so passionate about letting players get inspired by sounds, would love to record something with someone like that someday. Thank you for the video, Warren! Really inspiring!
Hi Arvangath VGM, thanks very much! I agree the search for the great tone is an amazing process! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks for making these videos I've been in the music industry for years and years and years I understand how much work goes into what you do just want you to know that we appreciate you your crew keep up the good work may you be blessed with everything your heart desires
Hi CIRCLE OF TONE Your friend for guitar tone, thanks very much! I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Sean, you're welcome! Yes, Cameron is awesome! I had a great time checking out his studio! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
love this video! just watched the entire thing. i love Produce Like a Pro channel.. and all of Cameron Webb's productions! what a great pairing.. this video :)
Hi MrRazorsoul, agreed, I love Trident Consoles as well the 80B is great and obviously the A Range is a legend as well! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Warren, great vid again mate as always, I don't know if you remember but I have a great Jeff Beck story for you ! as you know way back a few years I had a time drumming and recording with Jeff' in East Sussex before I moved to the US. His original amp was a death trap at the time, only because the power lead had a UK pug at each end and the amp had a standard UK wall socket mounted at the back. So if he or anyone had plugged the lead in the wall/power first and put his/her hand on the end going into the amp it would have been super hot! My mate at Pilot Sound studio sorted it out after years of it being over looked. Then Marshall made him some new amps for the tours at that time, but the only amp that lasted was his original. I love guitar stories!
Thoroughly enjoyable gentlemen. All these videos make me look up the producer discography and history. It's a great concept and I'm happy to have made the discovery, and your acquaintance. Hope all goes well for you both into the future. kind regards.
thanks for this one Warren. gonna really help us with our motorhead tribute band, our bassist has been struggling to get a good lemmy tone, now he has no excuse, definitely gonna help with my motorhead covers too keep these coming they are awesome
ART Nightbass?! I haven't thought of that piece of kit for a long time. I wish I was there to hang out with you guys and talk shop. I love these studio tour videos. I learn a lot, and get to check out some cool gear I've never heard of.
The AMS RMX-16 has the snare reverb used on Phil Collins 'In The Air Tonight'! Pain in the arse to fix though! Had one kick the bucket last year and is un-fixable!
Great video. He has made so many of my favourite records. Also I had that same laney about a decade ago and sold it for like $300. Totally regret it as the push pull eq was amazing.
The Neve line amp he was referring to (I believe) is the 1272. It's not really a cross between a 1073 and a 1081 because those pres are actually the same pre, known as the 1290 (only the EQ modules differ between the 1073 and 1081). The 1272 has two of the three stages used in the 1290, since less gain is needed. Some are modded to work as pres though. Rupert's reply when asked if he thought people should mod the 1272 as a mic pre: 'why not? It's all the same stuff in there'. "
Another great one, Warren! Also dig the low-tech vibe of his place. OSB all over the walls... reminds us that sometimes it's just about making good records no matter what the space.
I am seeing that the really good professional videos made by people like you who really know what they are talking about get almost no negative feedback. There is always criticism that could be expressed, but when there is so much good stuff, one doesn't care much about the bad. I, for one appreciate what you do. I wish there were more like you out there. The problem is that there are too many wannabe experts that flood youtube with stupid stuff to make a few bucks or to boost their egos. It's incredible how many followers many of those know nothing people get while they blab about things they know nothing about.i think many of those followers feel better listening to people who know as little as they do, It's bizarre. Anyway that was my philosophical rant of the week. Thanks again for all the cool shit that you do, or is it cool shite. I like the word shite much better than shit, for some reason.
Thanks ever so much Perry! I really appreciate your very kind words! I am blessed to be able to talk to guys like Cameron who make amazing sounding records every day of their life! His work effort and talent are seeding to none! Haha yes cool 'shite' indeed! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi noisesoundtonevibe thanks the great comment! I too love Motörhead! I love Ace Of Spades and when Cameron starting Producing them again they cane alive again! He really captured their power that they had with the first lineup! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
This is a great video, pretty effortless to watch even if 2 hours because the incidental tangents and stories are great to hear - and the passion comes across. I think I finally understood what racks are for just from Cameron's explanation.
Hi Gurtana, so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, Cameron is amazing! A great guy and extremely talented! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Thank you, Warren. Your videos have really helped me appreciate professional music production and the artistry involved from the technical side of the equation. I've watched a lot of the studio tours series and each one is fascinating in its own right!
Brilliant! Warren - I think I'm about the same age as you. Motorhead/Girlschool on TOTP in Feb 1981 blew my frigging brain out. "Please Don't Touch" with Lemmy in a white tuxedo.... amazing. "Ace of Spades" is my Desert Island Disc - it'll frighten the sharks off when I go swimming. And Ace of Spades isn't even the best song on the album. What is though? That's the question. Love Me Like A Reptile? Shoot You In The Back? Live To Win? Bite The Bullet? Finally - agreed, Wurzel (RIP) is one of the new guys...
Also... 1hr 40min: Black Sabbath chat, Laney amp. Oh yes! Literally my favourite band for 37 years, and Paranoid/Heaven & Hell my 2 faves. But ohhhh... the terrible early-mid 1980's struggle of trying to like Born Again, and Seventh Star. Basically all the Ozzy albums except the last 2, and the first 2 Ronnie albums, are utter classics. Everything else - for completists only. Never watched an hour and a half of anything on TH-cam before so you must be doing something right.
Hi MrOblimey! Yes, agreed 100&! Ace Of Spades, the album is a Masterpiece! When Cameron starting making Motorhead albums they returned to what I love about them! He nailed there sensibility perfectly! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Agreed again! Haha Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules, both masterpieces as well! Huge fan! We probably are the same age! haha Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
WoW! i just stumbled upon this and found it absolutely delightful. So down to earth! I liked how personable Cameron is (Warren too ;) ) Thanks soooooo much for taking the time to share this with the rest of us! WoW! I'm interested also in the chipboard walls! please comment on that and the build of the room.
All the Grace stuff is made a few miles from where I live. Been friends with Grace brothers for years. Hoping one day do get my hands on some mic pre from them.
Hi MrRazorsoul, that's very cool! I haven't used them myself, but I know Cameron loves them and I trust his ears! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
thanks again Warren! If I may, I would love to see in your interviews, the studio owners 3 favourite (or weirdest) microphones and what they use them for. Could be another cool lil ditty for yous to talk about! Always love your videos nonetheless! Keep it up!
Love, love LOVE the in-depth tours! Thanks W! But they always give me G.A.S.! Gotta watch it. But I should say...your burns are SO close to mutton chops...something new to try?!?! :P
Without the context of Cameron being friends and having that relationship with the band it sounds incredibly preposterous he would tell them what they are playing can be better. It is absurdly funny.
Cameron started to talk about that modified Bassman amp and then you guys went to a side conversation. Would you mind posting what exactly was done to that old basement I'm really really interested
I love these videos, this one especially. I can really relate to Cameron's work style, seems like a great guy. What I'd give to become an assistant for one of you guys.. On another note isnt that distortion+ brand MXR not MXA? Keep up the good work!
This one was way too long. But it was fantastic! I watched in segments. Cameron's passion is infectious. I love the "try everything and be unique" spirit. I'm no longer going to pass up quirky garage sale or Craigslist bargains. LOL.
So...How does Cameron mount his screens onto his console? I have an Trident 80C and have been looking for options. Many thanks to you both! PLAP is in heavy rotation up here in Seattle.
49:16 hi-hat and shaker ha ha ha - Question - when you say your using compressors (like the Retro Instruments 176 Tube Limiting Amplifier) on vocals - is that during tracking or mixing or both?
I can't believe no one wants to use the Laney, especially with an SG right there lol great episode. I don't have an impressive set up at all but I love grabbing weird stompboxes and stuff just because who knows when running something through it might spark something
Love this very much. I can live there , for ever! I have a question about the bass in guitar amps. What do you use for cabs? Will it be better to use a svt 810 or 412 with vintage30 ? I have a crate BV300H guitar amp and it may be cool for bass , do not know because I have not gotten to test it yet. Thanks for all you do. Very interesting and educational. Greetings from Norway!
Why do I feel like I could walk into that studio and instantly become best friends with Cameron.... Love the series. Especially liked that one.
Hi Friends, I hope you´re doing marvellously well! I´m really excited about today´s video:

@@Producelikeapro Thank you. Your channel has kept me entertained in my spare time. 👍

Yes, iommi on Heaven and Hell is killer sounding! Great interview, Cameron is a chilled out super nice guy.
Warren eludes to the Left and Right Eventide thing. Eventide classic setting Left and right 1.01 and 99. One side slightly sharp and the other side slightly flat. It does have a random quality to it. You've heard it on tons of stuff from the 70's and early 80's. Nice job Warren!
it's something beautiful about looking at audio studios
Hi treztracks, agreed! I love doing these videos! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Cameron is an excellent engineer and person!
as ever awesome interview! one of my favourite! good mixure of story telling, gear talk and recording infos! big thumps up!
Hannes Hagenauer thanks ever so much! Yes, I was a little afraid of the 2 hours length! Haha but people seem to like it ok! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Great walk through, great guy, really got an impression why people would like working with Cameron, has a great kind relaxed enthusiasm
Awesome video. Cameron not only looks like me, he thinks like me: "As a kid, as an adult -I don't even know what I am!" Sums it all up right there.
Cameron obviously did a great job, several times, but "We Are Motorhead" (2000) is still probably the best-sounding album with the best songs. Many of those tracks became Motorhead's classics.
Must really have been a challenge to do Motorhead at any time, as they play SO loud and want the headphones screaming!
everyone has their favorites . Mine were orgasmatron and Rock and roll
These 2 hours flew by! Great video again Warren! And many thanks for the info and great music Cameron!
Nice! Would love to bring coffe and swap out snaredrums in your sessions. Would that be possible?
Great interview & what a terrific sense of humour Cameron has!
Haven't found many videos engaging me on learn more about recording lately awesome interviews man,Thank you
that explanation of "committing" was spot on - as someone who doesn't like the idea of it
The JCM900 has the 5881 sticker on the front, so it has 6L6s not EL34s, and sound very different.

Great video. He has made so many of my favourite records. Also I had that same laney about a decade ago and sold it for like $300. Totally regret it as the push pull eq was amazing.
Killer vid, love it. The Bogner cab most likely loaded w/two Celestion V30's and G12T75 in an X-pattern. They've been doing that for a while.

Don't tell Glenn Fricker that you like the Line 6 Pod. I can hear him screaming now. LOL
Great interview, very inspirational
Great interview, and sweet board. I love Motörhead so this one is a little special to me. Thanks Cameron and Warren!
Hi noisesoundtonevibe thanks the great comment! I too love Motörhead! I love Ace Of Spades and when Cameron starting Producing them again they cane alive again! He really captured their power that they had with the first lineup! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren

Nice jam on the Rhodes Warren!
Thanks for this interesting tour discussion!
Haha thanks glad you enjoyed the Rhodes Jam Carl! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks Warren! I was having PLAP Studio Tour withdrawals...

Its awesome most of the big mixers always have a presonus faderport. I own one. Great piece of kit huh Warren.
One of my favorite Interview/studio tour yet. Seems like a super cool guy. I'm also a big ZebraHead fan.
without Zebrahead I wouldnt of gotten to Motorhead.
WoW! i just stumbled upon this and found it absolutely delightful. So down to earth! I liked how personable Cameron is (Warren too ;) )
Thanks soooooo much for taking the time to share this with the rest of us! WoW!
I'm interested also in the chipboard walls! please comment on that and the build of the room.
This was fantastic
Thanks very much! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing! Many thanks Warren
Wow this was so informative!
Great vid! Loved every minute.
thanks again Warren! If I may, I would love to see in your interviews, the studio owners 3 favourite (or weirdest) microphones and what they use them for. Could be another cool lil ditty for yous to talk about! Always love your videos nonetheless! Keep it up!
Hi Mike, I love that idea!! 3 favourite mics and their uses! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

he's so good, this is one of your best videos to learn shit. Thanx Warren.
Great episode¡
The Tele with the Fishman is a "Nashville Deluxe Power Telecaster" or similar. Fishman calls it a "power bridge". It has piezos in the saddles.
Thanks very much for the info lkb3rd! I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
love this! hooked on your vids Warren , great help and insight! peace
awesome !!!
Without the context of Cameron being friends and having that relationship with the band it sounds incredibly preposterous he would tell them what they are playing can be better. It is absurdly funny.
Well also that is the job of a Producer! We get hired to be honest to the artists, they are looking for production
That was a Laney AOR 50. I've been trying to get my hands on one of those, Lots of 80s records were recorded with them.
Hi chungaleta1234, yes amazing amp! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Playing the Wurlly made the video for me!!!
Cameron started to talk about that modified Bassman amp and then you guys went to a side conversation. Would you mind posting what exactly was done to that old basement I'm really really interested
Cameron is a nice guy.
Yes Cameron is amazing, great guy! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
LOL.
Haha Fezzler61 way too long! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
thanks for the complement. the worst amps always sound the most interesting
Awesome awesome awesome 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Those cables!! Sheesh!!! I could never lol
I know this is an old vid...but I'm surprised to hear that with the experience and a studio like that....car tests are still required.
Neat to know "Neon Knights" used a Laney amp. Love those tid bits..
Hi thetvmuseum, yes great info! Tony Iommi is a hero of mine! Amazing guitarist! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
nice vid again, with some good info. bless.
Thanks sundamusik! Glad to be able to help! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I can't believe no one wants to use the Laney, especially with an SG right there lol great episode. I don't have an impressive set up at all but I love grabbing weird stompboxes and stuff just because who knows when running something through it might spark something
Hi Kristoffer, Nice! Got to love stompboxes! I love Laney Amps, so amazing! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Love this very much. I can live there , for ever!
I have a question about the bass in guitar amps. What do you use for cabs? Will it be better to use a svt 810 or 412 with vintage30 ?
I have a crate BV300H guitar amp and it may be cool for bass ,
do not know because I have not gotten to test it yet.
Thanks for all you do. Very interesting and educational.
Greetings from Norway!
Excellent video as usual, but I have to ask, Is the pressboard on the walls an acoustic secret?
