@Diszturr you are correct. What was reported was that Putin said he could take Kiev, if he wanted to, in "two weeks", not one week. It was supposedly over a phone call with José Manuel Barroso. BTW Kremlin has not denied this, but said Putin's words were taken out of context.
As far as "proving" things goes, depending on how philosophical you want to get, there is not much that anyone can "prove" about anything. You or I can't even prove that were are not all in a big simulation, let alone what someone might have said over a phone call to someone else. If by proof you mean a *video* of Putin saying it, well, it was a phone call. But just wait. very soon, DeepFake will become so indistinguishable from actual footage that none of us will be able to tell the difference. How are we going to prove the occurrence of any event after that? It could all be CGI and DeefFake, right? If you saw something with your eyes, then recorded a video of it and showed it to me, I can just call B.S. and move along. Good luck proving it to anyone.

@@NotWhatYouThink Far more decisive than what Putin may have said on a phonecall is the type of forces and their missions at the start (VDV for shock mobility, sending forces alone deep in enemy territory to capture key assets like airbases, etc.) - indicating they had a plan that counted on the Ukrainian regime collapsing within days, allowing them to take over Kyiv within a week by installing a puppet government. Didn't quite pan out.

Anyone else see the influence of the British SAS deep penetration raids in North Africa in WW2? Rapid strikes by wheeled vehicles wreaking havoc in rear areas, except the Ukrainians followed these breakthroughs with heavier units and mass at the point of attack, ready to exploit the penetrations. Lessons from mobile warfare applied brilliantly. Encore!
This whole thing screams allied operations in WWII. The use of propaganda transmitted to the enemy through the Ukrainian government's statements to the people of Ukraine. They slowly built up forces and made sure Russia saw it which in combination with the HIMARS strikes in the south helped sell their feint in the south while probing attacks searched for a soft spot. The whole thing was beautiful planned and exicuted. I can't wait this this whole thing is over and the analysts do their thing and we get to hear the whole story. The books to be be written about this war will be very interesting.

The Ukrainians were very elusive even in the beginning of the war. They fought in small independent groups. The Russians described them as trying to a kill a bunch of ants that are everywhere.
A British commander said the Ukrainians were following our tactics.
Keep your forces dispersed until you are about to launch an offensive.
Harder to do real damage if there is no major target
Same reason soliders need to spread out, otherwise one grenade will take them all out. It's tricky though. You still need enough with you to be able to defend.

This was an awesome video. Can't say that I'm not really proud of our homies in the Ukraine. I've been pretty worried that Russia would be able to overwhelm them with numbers since the beginning, but I'm very pleased to see that may have been a misguided concern. I guess there really is no replacement for good military leadership and logistics. Keep fighting hard over there, Ukrainians. You're making your allies proud to be helping such a worthy cause and proving that you are not some joke to be taken lightly.

If Ukraine is given intel, you bet that they also have western advisor there, pointing out flaws and improving the tactics and strategies for the war with accuracy and effectiveness in mind.

I have visited Ukraine in August, seeing the strength of people was amazing in the face of such a giant. It makes me happy to see them take back their land.
Wow man good of you to go and be a part of history by seeing their culture and situation *during* the war! I went to Lviv in April and helped with supply distribution. I wanted to go to Kiev but I was told road blocks would not allow a foreigner go very far. Were you able to go deeper than Lviv? Yes, I agree, seeing the strength and will of Ukrainians first hand was an amazing experience. Something I'll remember for the rest of my life.
@@TheSkystrider Hi, you are a braver person than me. We admittedly just went over the boarder to help bring out a couple of families in a minibus. I had a toddler being looked after in Poland and didn’t want to leave her for too long.
I also got to help out at the Przemysl train station in the boarder city in Poland. Has thousands of women and children flowing through the small station with huge bags but no elevators, they need constant volunteers there to help direct and move cases. When I was there loads of students from Japan turned up to help, was quite amazing. But still needs more help, felt bad for leaving but had to get back to my job here in the UK

I'd say that red dawn is far more complex than the current war. It's beyond vietnam or Afghanistan in complexity.
In red dawn you have a coalition of Cubans and various other central Americans invading an enemy with the direct support and even manpower assistance of the soviet union.
1 ukraine isn't the aggressor here.
2 most of their forces come from the same nation
3 there are no superpower boots on the ground physically lifting rifles and shooting the enemy. We're advisers. Like in Cambodia and Laos.
4 there arent even american piloted aircraft undertaking airstrikes.

Ukraine is a sovereign nation with both regular and irregular military forces, armed with NATO equipment, defending themselves from Russia's poorly planned invasion, with an army that is ill-equipped and unprepared, with largely incompetent leadership. the only similarity to Red Dawn is that there's a Russian invasion, otherwise it's basically nothing at all like the movie.

Attacking civilian infrastructure is a double edged sword for numerous reasons, the most important being it gives Ukraine the reason to do the same once they start pushing into Russia, and that's ignoring that attacking civilians is a war crime, meaning it gives nato and the US even more of an excuse to get involved
They are discussing that if such event should occur, Russia start hitting civilian building & infrastructure. NATO will declare a "No Fly Zone" over Ukraine's airspace. I will not be surprised seeing F-22s & F-35s, or typhoons engaging Russian jets.

I can't believe this war is still ongoing. I really thought Russia would have won within 3 months at the most. The fighting will of Ukraine is amazing.
The Russians have a capability, they always flaunt their new tech to spite NATO, they have tons of soldiers with high morale before the war, hell, its easy to encite the rabble to be more ferocious against the "Nazis of Ukraine"
But nope, all of those for nothing. They are just a former husk of the USSR
NATO weapons, intelligence and training is the reason. As valiant as the Ukrainian Army is, they simply didn't have the equipment or resources to hold out for more than a couple months.
Ukraine is brave only because of US + NATO backing and Russia is so poor that they can't even buy cheap ATGM for attack helicopters, not to mention guided air to ground missiles for their 4th generation fighters.

The biggest industrial block on earth supporting a nation eager to not lose. Worse nations have won against bigger opponents under such circumstances.
I never expected Russia to make as much progress as they did. I expected Russia to withdraw within the first few weeks. They are really committed to losing as much equipment and lives as they possibly can. It's honestly impressive.

Sun Tzu best expressed the martial role of deception in saying "All warfare is based on deception." Deceptions can involve false maneuvers, feigned attacks, misleading orders of battle, and creation of deceiving indications of strength or weakness in attempts to influence an enemy's actions.
There is another old Chinese set of writings on military strategy call the 36 Strategems. IIRC it'd a collection of essays rather than being written by any one person.
There's a particular stratagem called "Make noise in the East and attack them in the west." which is basically an application of the warfare is deception principle.
Another point that is made in the Art of War is that a cou try cannot go to war without the whole country being behind the effort.
In fact, when you look at the Russian effort almost all of it runs counter to the principles laid down in the art of war. It's almost like they're trying to write a book on how not to conduct a war
Continue with that thought, Russia gave up undefendable land and continues to grind forward where it matters. In both cases Ukraine loses men on a vast scale for nothing other than the cheers of western propaganda media channels.

I think one clarification is needed. Yes Ukrainians lured ruzzians into Kherson, but they didn't specifically planned Kharkiv offensive, instead based on what we know they likely looked at Melitopol axis, but were generally probing entire front for any weaknesses. Kharkiv offensive happened because that is where they identified weakness. It wasn't "unplanned", however it just wasn't planned specifically before it happened. Ukrainians clearly knew that Kherson is triple lose for ruzzia and massive dilemma, defend and weaken rest of the front, abandon and have massive political fall out or as it happened in ruzzian case both! Ukrainians knew that starting Kherson offensive is either going to be successful on it's own or will present opportunity somewhere else, I don't think they knew where, but they were ready to exploit it generally and Kharkiv front happened to be the place.

Yes. This was big for Ukraine. Retired special forces from around the world came to Ukraine to fight the Russians. Russia is not fighting against only Ukraine, they are fighting against the world, and Russian soldiers do not have half the experience that many of the volunteers have.
All of those who were not allowed to leave and forced to die fighting and all non combatants used as human shields, you are the sacrifice to be forgotten, and hopefully, none will have been in vain.

I remember a news story a few weeks ago in which Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine's major offensive in the south at Kherson was about to begin. And I wondered to myself, Why would he announce this? Doesn't the element of surprise matter anymore? Apparently it does, after all.
It wasn’t a joke either kherson offensive is a real offensive not a fake which is why it sold the idea so well to the russians because none of it was fake they just forgot to add they would artillery strike more then anything
actually alot of actions in wars are pretty well known. there are multiple reasons for that and annoucing the war in the south has lots of benefits.

The Russians are not completely stupid, even if we love to think they are. They must have been aware that also around Kharkiv, something was building up.
But then some bigwing must have decided that the south is more important than the north.
And I keep wondering why. Retreating behind the Dnepr would have created a zone that is easy to defend, freeing up troops for the Kharkiv region and maybe even an offensive in the Donbas. Now, the Ukrainians can fight a war of attrition in the south and win it as Russian logistics is crippled.
Maybe Oberst Reisner has an idea?
Russia still has most of its navy which would have made Kherson the harder target even without reinforcements. Putting a HIMARS on a barge like the thumbnail is a novel idea but it would make more sense to get some use out of them before dumping them in the ocean

I was recently in urban and rural Ukraine, specifically Kiev and Sumy. I cannot begin to tell you what a beautiful and wonderful country it is. It reminds me of Nebraska in the US. And the people... they are best I meet. I have traveled around to a lot of places...but like "Bald and Bankrupt" here on TH-cam says......Ukraine is his most favorite country. It is mine too. And I know, because I was just there. I have fallen in love with Ukraine when I visited. If you go there...you'll understand. She will steal your heart. Ukraine is simply awesome.

all you have to do is wait until the enemy commits their forces
in defensive positions.
There are always weaknesses. Just concentrate your forces where the enemy is weak,
and you have a good chance at victory.
So, the Kharkiv assault could have also been opportunistic.
Ukraine could have had multiple plans, with one being chosen based upon Russia's actions and deployment.
Like in football, if the opponent goes strong on the left side, then you can either respond with strength on strength, or strength on weakness.
So far, I would say Ukraine has the better strategists.

I've never been so proud of my country's army. I was sure Ukraine was going to win this war, but didn't expect anything that fast and epic as that Kharkiv counteroffensive. A great honour and respect to all Ukranian soldiers and commanders who managed to pull this off.
By the way, those blue banners with russian flags were all the same saying "we are all the same nation with russian" (wrong).

An army has to have good intelligence. Realistic intellgence. It's nice to be able to say everything's going well, but when it's all said and done, sometimes it isn't. And when it isn't, the higher-ups MUST know.
If your army spends more time covering up failures than it does actually responding to them, you continue to fail. And in situations like that, you wind up, oh, completely losing an entire front . . .

HIMARS are so fucking scary. We had them stationed at our forward operating base in Afghanistan. They were completely separated from us maintenance guys and the infantry. Everything that moved there happened at night. No one knew when they we're going to fire. When they did fire, holy shit did it get everyone's attention. To this day one of the coolest/loudest things I've ever experienced
In the end the war will end and the leaders will shake hands , and the old woman will remain, waiting for her martyr son , the girl, waiting for her beloved husband, and those children, waiting for their heroic father.
Zelenskyy is definitely not shaking hands with Putin. He actually cares about his people.
