My favorite part of the chapter was after Shanks demolished Kidd when he looked directly at the audience and said, "Don't forget to go see One Piece: Film Red now showing in a theater near you!"
I think Kidd was shocked to see Shanks because he just declared his attack on the Red Hair fleet, so he expected to fight the fleet. Kidd thought Shanks would be like Kaido and Big Mom who let their underlings fight and weaken the enemy, even if that means their underlings would get hurt. Shanks does not let his underlings get hurt, he just takes care of it himself.

I always saw Kid as “Luffy if he never had Shanks as a mentor”. He has the same attitude as Luffy did when he challenged Higuma. So him challenging Shanks, even though there was no hope of victory, tracks with that.
Luffys entire pirate ethos was adopted from Shanks to the point where he directly quotes Shanks lines to Usopp upon their first meeting. Clearly Kidd lacked a quality pirate role model.
I think Kidd was less shocked that shanks showed up, and way way way more shocked at the absolute powerhouse that shanks is. It seemed Kidd knew that shanks was super powerful, but after downing big mom (whilst riding law's cape), he assumed shanks would be near same level and that he would have a chance up against him. But we saw how it all hit the fan.
A reminder that the yonko are equally powerful if you compare their fleets/crews not them individually (even though they are most likely pretty close). Shanks having a weak fleet needs to balance it
Not true. It’s because he didn’t even get to fight shanks last time. His crew took him out before he made it there. He expected the same thing but shanks thought differently of him now than before
The first thing I thought about was the "cannon" line as a callback to the beginning of the series about pistols and using them. The chapter 1 bandit wasn't prepared to shoot so Shanks' crew member shot first. This time, Shanks saw that Kidd was prepared to shoot, so he cut to the chase first.
Notice how the first Red Hair that wanted to take action was Lucky Roo AGAIN. He pretty much told the captain “don’t worry we got it” before Shanks could even read the papers about Kidd😂
Uhm a Theory more of a prediction that i came up with but a sad one kid and law are like similar like in rivalry, teaming with luffy and fighting a yonko together. And if kidd is dead what makes oda to not kill law
This chapter was the epitome of the phrase "Fuck around and find out." I think it shows Kidd's poor survival instinct that despite losing an arm last time without even getting to see Shanks he decided to attack him again, completely unprovoked. Rip bozo.
That's an excellent point. It could end up being something like it was that injury that drove him to hone his future sight, but I'd prefer it was Blackbeard managing to hurt him despite his future sight.
Yeah Blackbeard is going to kill either Garp or Shanks. He's been clearly setup as the strongest opponent Luffy will have to face (I don't buy Imu being an actual too tier fighter)
@@louayker4249 I doubt that since Whitebeard talked about him and Mihawk having fights that would shake the whole grand line. Still, Blackbeard didn't have a DF when he did it.

By the same token, it could be that no one can touch Imu except Luffy, who is "God's natural enemy" because of the Nika fruit. The Nika fruit's power being "freedom" would mean it's the natural enemy of a power like "control".
@@jacobbirkinshaw5359 yeah but the timeline on those events is not very clear. Shanks had the scars over his eye already when he inspired Luffy, at which point he was no Yonkou yet. He did already have his duels with Mihawk, as the later refused to fight Shanks after he lost an arm, but for all we know he might have had those scars over his eyes for a long time before that already. Heck, he might even have gotten them as a child in one of the many clashes between the Roger Pirates and the Whitebeard Pirates. In other words, the power dynamic between these two could have changed drastically since then.

I couldn't stop laughing reading this chapter. Not because I enjoyed Kid's fate but I genuinely love how Shanks is portrayed. I have waited for so long for my absolute favourite character to make a move. I am 28 years old and ever since I was about 13 I have been waiting for Shanks to make a move. This character is so well written!
2:08 Kaido actually care for his crew or at least his top commanders. When the Minks were beating Jack, Kaido said something like "That's enough I know Jack is strong but I wouldn't let you guys beat him while im watching here" and then he interfered. Other than that, King's flashback with Kaido when he was younger showed how close their relationship was
This is actually jack specifically. I think Liam has talked about it in a different video, but it seems that Kaido sees in jack what he himself was when he was part of the Rocks crew, and so he has an emotional attachment to him that he doesnt for the others - because hes been in tjat position before (of being derided and belittled by the more powerful members of your crew despite being a powerhouse yourself) and sees himself in him
Dorry and Brogy's lines about being prepared for repurcussions were very reminiscent of shanks in chapter one when he told Higuma's goon that he's putting his life on the line by pointing a gun at Shanks, before he gets capped by Lucky Roux.
i think kid was a representation of how luffy would have turned out if the time skip never happened. he would have met shanks and shanks would have said he wasn't ready essentially.
man seeing shanks having a "no mercy" policy when it comes to enemies (no matter how much weaker they are) just sharply contrasts mihawk's "i'm no beast that goes all out when hunting a rabbit" stance
That's the thing, though: Kid wasn't a "rabbit." Kid was no threat to Shanks, but he was a serious threat to Shank's crew. That was what triggered the "no mercy" policy.
I like how leaving Wano for the three main Supernovas has had the same kind of gravitas as crossing the Red Line. Where the New World was physically hostile territory that sent many crews back into Paradise, crossing the 3 Billion Bounty level into Yonko level seems to have made the world socially hostile to them. So naturally, some crews are going to fail. Kidd is still too eager to fight, heightened by the ego boost of helping save Wano. So with that he attacks the first island he lands on, which due to poor luck was Elbaf with Shanks on hand. Contrast this to Luffy who quickly made friends with Vegapunk and the satellites, and even teamed up with Lucci and Kaku. Law them was too predictable. Fastest route towards the end of the Grand Line. With the spoils of Wano on hand he was sure to be ambushed, which he was. Contrast this to Luffy who picked the wrong island out of a lack of knowledge, and how Egghead feels like the first island we've gone to with no plan since Punk Hazard. It's also fitting for establishing Shanks and Blackbeard as threats again as the two Yonko crews who have been absent from the main story for a long time. Now they both have Ponyglyph rubbings. (If this speculation holds true and Law lost to Blackbeard that is.)
I really like shanks' fleet. Its almost like shanks just started his whole emperor fleet thing out of people he personally is friends with, similar to how luffy just likes to invite people he thinks are cool
I love how it all came back to the first confrontation of Shanks and Mountain Bandit when they point a gun at Shanks and he said “this is not a tool for threatening” BADDDAAAAASSSS
I think Shanks' biggest role in the story would be to represent the point where Luffy surpasses Roger. Whenever Luffy surpasses Shanks, it would basically mean he is at a level of his own that no one has ever reached before him, except possibly the original joyboy.
@@dummyfranchise3630 I mean, we don't know yet how strong Shanks' crew is but we can assume it's extremely strong. We also don't know much about Roger's. The fleet doesn't count imo. I think Oda used roger's attack there to imply that Shanks is the representation of the pirate king's level.
I've been following One Piece for 16 years, & this is the chapter that make me take a double check cause I just can't believe my eyes that shanks finally showing his move. We've been joking about how he's never going to do shit, but when it's finally happening, it just feel unreal

i don't think it's about establishing power levels as much as presenting shanks as the inheritor of roger's will. we've known shanks is quite a badass for a while and that luffy will have to surpass him eventually, but oda's never gone so far as to show such a direct parallel between shanks and roger. its cool to know that shanks is seemingly on that level, but i think its more about symbolically setting him up as sorta the arbiter or judge of who's fit to be the pirate king
People were wondering why when shanks only comes and no one suddenly wants to fight anymore - well that's why. Let's all remember the rule to not point our guns anywhere near shanks and his crew.
The only reason that Kid was shocked by Shanks appearing in front of him is because of how fast he was. Shanks was nowhere near in sight for Kid but then he just suddenly spawns in front of his face. It makes sense
Low probability he allied with Blackbeard after his loss. Not totally sure how that would work out, though. Both are strategic characters, and BB isn't an idiot. I'd anticipate he sends Law back toward Luffy as a test. Law did say when they meet again, it'll be as enemies. Just a matter of it being a throw away line because duh, or some level of foreshadow.
When I saw the panel of Shanks activating his future sight ability, it took me back to chapter one when he starred down the sea king to save Luffy. It made me wonder if he could see the future that far in advance that Shanks NEEDED to sacrifice his arm in order to have the best outcome for the end game of One Piece hence his conversation with White Beard saying that he gave up his arm to bet on the future era (aka Luffy and his generation). It just felt like a full circle moment for me that it showed that all the years of buildup was not for nothing and Oda really cooked in this chapter, but this is is only the first course. I can’t wait to see what else Oda has in store.
I always thought that kid should have a metal ship so that he could break it down and reassemble it back together for instances exactly like this. He could have disassembled the ship made the cannon misfire and reassembled the ship only to reaattack back stronger than ever before but we lost such an opportunity
Kind of hope its Aokiji/Kuzan on the Blackbeard ship and we get Kuzan vs Kizaru. An Ex-Admiral defeating a current Admiral would definitely shock the world. Maybe even giving Kuzan a bounty.
Seeing shanks having this soft side taking those weaker pirates in his protection really make him build up to be a classy character, cool, gigachad, and just simply a decent human being with not much quirky behavior. WHICH, might make the "Evil shanks" theory will hit harder if it ever come true
Blackbeard arriving at egghead and Shanks casually swinging his sword smells like another round of "who is the real final opponent of Luffy??" all over again.
This chapter could have been titled as "He fought" Incredible how hype a single attack can be Also; we are seeing tons of big names, admirals, gorosei, yonkos, vegapunk, rayleigh and so on, *BUT* what about Cross Guild? Can't wait to see what they are up to
You know I'm starting to see a pattern of the remaining Worst Generation being wiped out by the current Yonko which might be the direction Oda is going with, Kid n Killer by Shanks, Law by Blackbeard, Bonney by Luffy(probably going to be framed that way in the news) and Cross Guild hunted the rest
Kid acting surprised at seeing Shanks is kinda understandable when you remember that he basically jumped across that whole bay (a distance far enough that Yasopp had to use a telescope to see the Kid pirates) in the blink of an eye

I 100% believe it’s Aokiji on that BB ship. I don’t know the look of every BB ship, but I know for a fact last time we saw Aokiji he was standing on a ship that looked similar while he captured pudding. Aokiji is linked to Ohara and Egg Head has been nothing more than a call back to Egg Head. Aokiji won’t let more of his friends die because of the world government, he’s going to swoop in and aid the strawhats. I think he will either handle the fodder ships, Kuzan or Saturn. I think there would be little point in him fighting Kuzan since the crew has access to weapons that would allow them to fight Kuzan without Aokiji’s help.
@Cole Pauley That's a great question. If it's Kuzan, I could see him fighting against Kizaru or Sanji. If Sanji hears that the Blackbeard Pirates kidnapped Pudding, especially when Kuzan's involved, he wouldn't forgive him. Plus, Kuzan's mission is probably to capture Vegapunk.
the name of the light logia admiral is kizaru. kuzan is actually aojiki's real name and what we've all called him after the timeskip since he's not aokiji anymore
This arc somehow just keeps getting better and better, and wilder and wilder. With how much stuff that is going on right now, it feels almost weird we didn't spend 100 chapters building up to this after Wano.
After this I'm actually a bit cautiously optimistic about Law's situation now. No matter what, he's doing better than Kid 😅 Law actually hurt BB, and his crew over-performed. Law may still lose, but I feel he has much better chance. Maybe he'll escape. I feel worst case scenario is Law is captured but just imo. I feel like narratively we all know BB will win, but in a different world where anything could happen, I feel Law could take it
that is the thing, i'm almost hopefull law will escape alive from BB, because when it was said that kid was going to elbaf we all knew he was gona lose bad (but not that badly) the moment shanks apeared, we just didn't knew he was not gona even put his feet on land. law at least was show to have a fight and it was so many chapters ago i cannot think it would be the ending everyone expects anymore, but i don't think he will be unscratched from that encounter, if he gets away it will be by the skin of his teeth and if he is captured alive by bb, then it is because he actually thinks law alive is a resource more usefull (maybe use him as bait to get to luffy who has some of the poneglyphs and robin at his crew)
Blackbeard having captured Pudding, who was said not to be old enough to have awakened the thing that allows her to read poneglyphs, and Blackbeard now showing up on Egghead, where Bonney is, is definitely going to be a thing. No idea how it's going to play out exactly, but I assume Boa is on her way to capture Bonney, and York's plan is taking her and getting aboard the Blackbeard ship. And Shanks murked Kid, because of course he did. People who thought Kid would have a chance were just kidding themselves, and people who thought there was going to be a Davy Back fight were just delusional. Kaido and Big Mom didn't take Kid seriously. Shanks did. 100% Kaido and Big Mom could've knocked him out in a single blow as well, if they took him as a serious threat. Which is not to downplay Shanks, but to explain to people that the point is not Shanks being massively more powerful than Big Mom or Kaido. Just that he fights more efficiently, when he needs to.
I think what sets their generation apart from Shanks, big mom, whitebeard, kaido, is one is focused on family and luffy’s generation is about friendship
The divine departure needed to be done in color, really emphasizes the clapping of the Kidd pirates. Now we know why Oda didn't give Kidd too much depth.
They needed to show off shanks because they still need to come up with how one of the five elders is gonna fight or show power if that’s gonna happen. Also needing to show how powerful anyone needs to be to step foot on elbaf. At least kids level since shanks was worried he would do some crazy damage. What an awesome chapter.
This was an amazing chapter since I'm a huge Shanks fan and I knew it would be a big beatdown but that was beyond nasty af RIP Bozo Useless Laptain Midd plus his fleet captains were hilarious also Blackbeard ship panels gave me chills
What's really scary is that, Shanks' first attack was a Divine Departure and this might be one of his weakest attacks. There's a good chance the student has surpassed the master and might have created even more powerful attacks.
What exactly would be a more powerful move that a long reach conqueror haki blast ? It's clearly the strongest form of fighting in the series and has been setup to be what Blackbeard and Luffy (devil fruit users) have to overcome. The only thing more powerful than an advanced Conqueror haki blast is one from a stronger haki user.
On Kidd's defense, when it came to Kaido it wasn't him barging into Wano to cause mayhem, it was Kaido trying to commit the dead near were the second generation alliance 's base was located.
Actually it was Apoo's fault. He was a member of the Beast Pirates, this whole entire time. It's still shocking that Apoo's indirectly responsible for it.

If Luffy is Roger.
Law is Whitebeard.
Kid is clearly Shinki lmfao even similar devil fruit powers
Thats a great point!
Notice how the first Red Hair that wanted to take action was Lucky Roo AGAIN. He pretty much told the captain “don’t worry we got it” before Shanks could even read the papers about Kidd😂

By the same token, it could be that no one can touch Imu except Luffy, who is "God's natural enemy" because of the Nika fruit. This character is so well written!
That’s crazy when put into perspective
2:08 Kaido actually care for his crew or at least his top commanders. When the Minks were beating Jack, Kaido said something like "That's enough I know Jack is strong but I wouldn't let you guys beat him while im watching here" and then he interfered. Other than that, King's flashback with Kaido when he was younger showed how close their relationship was
Not to mention he was drunk off his ass crying for Doflamingos defeat. Even saying “it’s not your fault that you’re weak”

I was looking for this exact comment since that's exactly what it reminded me of too
i think kid was a representation of how luffy would have turned out if the time skip never happened. he would have met shanks and shanks would have said he wasn't ready essentially.
man seeing shanks having a "no mercy" policy when it comes to enemies (no matter how much weaker they are) just sharply contrasts mihawk's "i'm no beast that goes all out when hunting a rabbit" stance
That's the thing, though: Kid wasn't a "rabbit." Kid was no threat to Shanks, but he was a serious threat to Shank's crew. That was what triggered the "no mercy" policy.
Zoro just wanted to challenge Mihawk to a duel. Kidd was about to destroy a whole lot of Shanks's crew. This comparison makes no sense
✨gravitas✨
Its going to break my heart when Law gets taken out too, but it has to happen. You’re absolutely right.

I believe the reason Oda decided to name Shanks first named attack Divine Departure is to imply that Shanks is currently at Roger level.
i don't think it's about establishing power levels as much as presenting shanks as the inheritor of roger's will. we've known shanks is quite a badass for a while and that luffy will have to surpass him eventually, but oda's never gone so far as to show such a direct parallel between shanks and roger. its cool to know that shanks is seemingly on that level, but i think its more about symbolically setting him up as sorta the arbiter or judge of who's fit to be the pirate king
I don't think it's about power levels as much as it is to show that Shanks is very much Roger's protegee and maybe even inherited his will.
Or Shanks uses Divine Departure, as a homage to his late Captain, Roger. Just like how Law uses the move Silence, as a homage to Corazon.
I completely agree with this
It’s a technique…

Let's all remember the rule to not point our guns anywhere near shanks and his crew.
Seeing Big Mom remixed as Ms. Endive from Chowder at 7:25 was amazing
Shanks using one of Roger's techniques was a lovely surprise.

Low probability he allied with Blackbeard after his loss. Not totally sure how that would work out, though. Both are strategic characters, and BB isn't an idiot.
Ah yes Shanks is Yhwach in disguise all this time
He definitely can’t see that far ahead, but I bet he could sense something in luffy

Since the Germa cover story has ended, this is great way to show Kuzan. I also think Lafitte companies Kuzan.
@@rodoshehossain7400 who do you think aokiji would fight if it turns out to be his ship?
@Cole Pauley That's a great question. If it's Kuzan, I could see him fighting against Kizaru or Sanji. If Sanji hears that the Blackbeard Pirates kidnapped Pudding, especially when Kuzan's involved, he wouldn't forgive him. Plus, Kuzan's mission is probably to capture Vegapunk.
the name of the light logia admiral is kizaru. kuzan is actually aojiki's real name and what we've all called him after the timeskip since he's not aokiji anymore
Doesnt all of blackbeards ships look the same?
I genuinely think Shanks can see at least 10 seconds into the future
Well this was loterally shown in the chapter

Fourth prince of kakin in hunter x hunter.
I think it's at least 20-30 sec
I think it’s at most 10 seconds into the future, which is still insane considering everyone else couldn’t see past 2-3🫣
This arc somehow just keeps getting better and better, and wilder and wilder. With how much stuff that is going on right now, it feels almost weird we didn't spend 100 chapters building up to this after Wano.
to be honest, we spend over 1000 chapters building up to this 🤣
Dude had Kidd crossed off in the background 💀💀💀
You did NOT need to roast Kidd like this 😭😭
After this I'm actually a bit cautiously optimistic about Law's situation now.
@@gab4198 + people forget Law is a D., he definitely has a bigger role to play than just be BB’s stooge
It's funny, i feel like the audience were surprised about how well law did, but also surprised about how poorly kid did
He (Law) folded. A moment of silence for the guy.. 🙏
What's really scary is that, Shanks' first attack was a Divine Departure and this might be one of his weakest attacks. There's a good chance the student has surpassed the master and might have created even more powerful attacks.
Yeah. Beating a man who defeated a yonko with just the weakest attack. Makes sense.
I think Roger himself also probably has more powerful moves than Divine Departure.
So hes worried about his fleet but only uses a weak attack to stop Kidd? Nah, if somebody threatens your friends you go all out.
Nah he Nuked them. Dont think its his strongest but one of the stronger ones
You know what I could see happening? Kidd survives but Killer doesn't. Could be his Ace moment that forces him to think through his actions.
It's still shocking that Apoo's indirectly responsible for it.
bro... Making Big Mom like like Endive in this was genius. how am I just now seeing this?
love how kidd's picture in the back is crossed out because of recent events
