the point of these is they were made for kids. kids break DS hinges like no tomorrow. i used to work for Nintendo tech support and every other call was a parent complaining about how poor little Timmy's DS hinges are cracking and how they expect Nintendo to give them a new one for free. the common denominator of all of the calls were that the DS was owned by a kid, so Nintendo said screw it, well make a no-hinge model.
Garth Palmer How do kids mess up the hinges? I believe you, I'm just wondering. Seems like the kids would scratch the screens to all hell on the 2DS anyway. Though I suppose the system is still playable with hideous scratches.
Guru Laghima they arent careful when they open it up and they way they seem to open, over time would cause the hinges to start separating from the bottom half. this was the DS lite though and the hinges now are probably a lot stronger.

I would get the 2DS for the affordability if it had the clamshell design. Without the clamshell it doesn't fit in my pocket and the screens get scratched very quickly.
In UK the 2ds is 100 pounds while the 3ds is 130-150 While in US 2ds sells for 80 dollars while 3ds is 200 dollars Maybe the UK is selling it for a much higher price
I love my 2DS. In fact, I almost don't want a New Nintendo 3DS XL because I like the design so much... but the extra power, the 3D effect (meh, I don't need it that badly) and the clamshell function. I am curious how you feel it compares in speed to the original 3DS. It's fast enough for me, but I wonder if they improved the load-times with better hardware when they made it.
Nailed it right on the head. I bought my 2DS for Pokemon games. I should mention the one I got from Amazon was $100 with Yo-Kai Watch included. Not the world's best game and in some small ways a Pokemon clone, but a good bundle nonetheless. The lowest I probably could have gotten at the time was a Mario Kart bundled blue 2DS for $90. The highest price of the 2DS at one point was $150, I BELIEVE. --------------- Anyway, if that's true, then I got a more than fair deal and even if it isn't, it was worth the buy because I actually really like the gameboy-ish design (I have girly hands I guess). It's not for everyone, but it's sturdier than the 3DS from all accounts and you don't have to deal with weak hinges. --------------- My only gripe aside from the L and R buttons being a bit too high up (you can tap the sides to work just as well, though, so that's not an issue), is the fact that it's not very portable and basically requires screen protectors and/or a case. But you can get each for about $10 ($20 combined if you want both), so it's not a horrible deal. Depends on what you want out of your system, really.
I'm actually planning on "downgrading" from my 3DS XL to a 2DS. I do like the XL, but it's just a bulky piece of hardware that also has a crappy screen resolution. Not only that, but my XL is a collector's edition model (Year of Luigi), and as someone who's starting to collect games, I don't really want anything bad to happen to it. Also, fuck the New 3DS, and that piece of burnt rubbery shit that they call a "C-Stick".

UltimateOverlord I found it surprisingly comfortable to hold, but the L + R buttons are poorly positioned, honestly. You have to get used to tapping them from the side, as opposed to holding the 2DS like you normally would to holding your fingers along the top. It's a pretty neat design choice, though. Very nostalgic.
The 3D function on my room mate's 3DS always caused me headaches, so when it came time to buy my own, I got a 2DS because I didn't feel like paying extra for the 3D function. I got my 2DS secondhand for like, 40 less than a secondhand 3DS and was able to afford 3 games for it as well. If I got the 3DS, i'd have only been able to get one game and a major feature I couldn't use. So, i'm totally happy with mine.
I got one for Christmas, and I really like it. I like that it doesn't fold as the first thing that broke on my old DS was the hinges. In my opinion, I think it fits quite comfortably in my hands and I like the new shape.
I bought a 2DS. Super pleased with it. Huge library of good games, nice buttons (Aside from the d-pad), nice to hold, and fairly cheap. I kind of miss the clamshell, but not so much.
Cracked Rearview yea, the clamshell kept dust from piling up on the screen. but the 2ds doesnt have that, forcing you to buy the case if you want to keep the screen consistently clean.
mine was stepped on, bought another, burnt that ones battery, bought another, still have it (doesnt work), bought a 3ds almost never used it rip the good Nintendo
LOL. The thing is, I also am left handed and was always unsure about getting a 3DS because if I had to do ANY stylus gameplay, I wouldn't be able to use the joystick/circle pad. Then I saw the Circle Pad, but I am not sure if you can use it to replace the left hand side joystick. Still gonna get a 3DS XL for Zelda though. :P
PedanticCreeper you can play with the stylus if it doesnt require you use the circle pad as well. if it does, the circle pad pro is easier for left-handed people to use.
The 2DS would be a lot better if it was smaller, sort of like what was done with the GB Micro, except obviously not nearly as small. All of the promo pictures made the 2DS look much smaller than it actually ended up being, and a miniature one would have been a much better idea.
Gaming 4 Life (Tylerman's awesome game channel) If you think about it abit, the 3DS is barely the same size like the DS Lite. So making it ''smaller'' is barely possible. The 3DS is already small,so why making it smaller and smaller for no reason?
It's funny. People aren't buying the Wii U until there are more games, but Nintendo isn't releasing lots of new games because the Wii U sales are low. :P
***** Yeah, I know what you mean, but the Wii U itself isn't selling well, and I have seen the Wii U sell, but just not as much as other consoles, even though it is about half the price.
They are releasing a lot of games. Super Mario 3d World, Wind Waker HD, and Pikmin 3 just came out recently and a new unannounced Zelda game, Super Smash Bros 4, Mario Kart 8, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze are all coming out in 2014.
3D on the 3DS didn't do shit to the framerate, pretty much all games ran at 50+ fps and on the 3DS XL the battery life is pretty good. 2DS is just a 3DS without the parallax layer... Seriously, it's the same fucking thing.
I almost always have the 3D all the way up. I noticed that every time I let someone else play my 3DS, the first thing they do is side it all the way back down. Maybe I'm just a weirdo, but I'm very used to the 3-D.
Yay! I have the same 3DS XL as Ashens. But regarding the 2DS, it is good when on a budget. It does feel cheap though, but you can still play games with it.
I like this system. I like the analog feel of the buttons a whole lot. I also like the way it feels in your hand. I picked it up a year ago as a sort of self birthday present and I completely fell in love with it. $120 brand new and it came with Mario Kart 7. That for me was a bargain, and considering I only had $120 at the time, made it absolutely perfect.
I got one of these and I actually like it a lot.For starter I like to lay down in bed when I play my handhelds and since all of the 3DS's have that annoying loose hinge that was a problem..not for the 2DS and I like the form factor, guess I am one of the few who enjoys this, sure it's bigger than a regular 3DS but for the use I have with it,it's perfect for me,I keep my 3DS in the bag anyway when I travel so portability isn't really a deal breaker.Too bad people are bashing this thing,I think it's great.
'Too bad people are bashing this thing'? It's criticism. We have a right to express what we think about something. You have a right to talk about it positively as much as we have a right to talk about it negatively.
someone23 it's still unfairly bashed, since IT doesn't replace the original model and IT was advertised as an alternative console for kids. So unless You fit that criteria i don't think You should hate that thing. For what IT was aimed towards, it's a bullseye. IT doesn't have a hinge so kids can't break IT and it's in 2d so IT won't damage their developing eyes. IT is exactly what IT was meant to be. Plus nobody makes you buy it since, as i mentioned, it doesn't replace the older model.
I don't know what you're talking about. I lay down in my bed constantly to play my 3DS. The hinge is not loose at all. It's pretty clear why people are bashing this. It was a step backwards in every way possible.
My mom's friend bought a 2DS for her young son and he loves it. So this is usually for someone on a budget or again, for a younger audience since it does make sense for kids to want to fiddle with the top part of the DS and snap it off.
I recently bought a 2DS along with the new Smash Bros. and I actually enjoy it quite a bit. The only gripe I have with it is that I can't put in my pocket but then again thats more my fault then anything. I think its great for the price I got it at.
..."and a stylus to stab in the eyes of your enemies" Hahahahaha You really made me lost it there, is almost two in the morning, and my laugh resounded on the house...
im actually thinking of getting a 2ds since its so much cheaper than a 3ds and i can really give a crap less about the 3d effects. besides, many ppl dont like the new 2ds but i think it looks cool. Awesome video like always ashens! :D
If you value keeping it in your pocket or trying to gather steps for the games, the 2DS isn't a great choice. I can fit it in my pants pockets (it looks ridiculous) but I find it to be a lot easier to hold and play.
Yeah, but I don't really care about the transportation of a device. I never really bring gaming systems on the go, but you definately have a point with the portability.
***** As Amendoim said, it's not real 3d. How would you need it to solve puzzles... especially when the 2DS doesn't have it and Nintendo said that you will be able to play all 3DS games on it without losing anything?
it's LESS of a reach for me actually. My hand goes vertically along the entire 2ds, like if it was an xbox controller. So the base of my thumbs lie at the same height as the bottom of the touchpad. My hand is a lot less cramped. I do have large hands though.
here in New Zealand, it is incredibly hard to find a second hand 3DS or 3DS XL for a decent price, and brand new they are still sitting at ~$300. The 2DS launched at $165 here, and I was so excited that I preordered it. I highly recommend it, for those in countries where the 3DS is expensive, like mine.
i got a 2ds and i actually like the it. it feels nice in my hands and i cant really play 3d cause i get a headache looking at 3d and its 20$ cheaper but i will say they could have made it foldable still but that aside its really nice
The non-foldability of it was another part of the demographic targeting, as well as a way to cheapen it. The first thing that often breaks on handhelds with hinges is, well, the hinge. It's the weakest part of the entire structure, and since this machine was more for kids who aren't going to take as good care of it as an older person would, it makes sense to remove it.
Dangit, Nintendo! Why did you put an SD card with twice the memory in the 2DS than the 3DS? Also, the 3DS does have brightness settings, including something that I did not notice on the 2DS screen, a "power saver" option that makes the screens a tad darker.
+Superlevel12 How exactly did the screen, which is wired in, secured behind plastic, and likely glued or soldered in place, fall off? Sounds like bullshit.
So... the Nintendo 2DS was pretty much doomed right from the start then. Especially since, as Ashens pointed out, you can get a second-hand 3DS for about the same, maybe even cheaper. Well done, Nintendo. Well done. *02/11/2016 Edit:* I formally take back this comment and have said the following down below: _Boy, was I wrong about this game system! I have since purchased and received my refurbished Nintendo 2DS... and I've gotta say, my only complaint is that the shoulder buttons are a little sensitive from the side... and don't "click" like you'd expect if pressed normally, but function perfectly otherwise. That's about it._ _The system feels great in my hands and the battery life is _*_huge_*_ compared to the 3DS! Plus, the display is nice and bright and despite expectations, it does fit in your jean pocket without feeling too weird._ _So, yeah! Completely and totally wrong, was I. Ha hah!_
+Joseph Collins OK I have this crazy idea, now stay with me, but how about comparing the price of a second hand 3DS to, you know, a second hand 2DS? Am I crazy for wanting to compare apples to apples?
You raise a very fair point. The 2DS was marketed as a "budget handheld" for those who couldn't afford the 3DS. However, your point is valid because a refurbished Nintendo *2DS* is $60.00 USD.whereas a refurbished *3DS* is still anywhere from $120.00 to $130.00! Seems like what it boils down to is if you're gonna get a "cheap 3DS", you may well get a refurb 2DS. It may not be the most solid or sturdy system, but it's a good backup system, at the very least! (That's what I'd be using it for, myself.)
***** In that case, getting a refurb 2DS isn't getting "a cheap 3DS", its just getting a cheap 2DS. The choice of valuing price over the assurances of a brand new product (warranty, etc) is separate from the choice of if you would miss the features of a 3DS. You can prioritize one choice over the other, but they are still separate choices. I think what you're getting at is really "What is the cheapest way to play these games".
I also liken it to the sides of a set of coins, or a Venn Diagram. Valuing price + don't mind lack of/different features = used/refurb 2DS. Valuing assurance + don't mind lack of features = new 2DS. Valuing price + better features = used 3DS. Valuing assurance + better features = new 3DS. not caring at all about one choice just lets the decision be made by the other. ALSO YES I KNOW I OVERANALYZE THINGS :)
I do like the 2ds a lot. Got it for $70 used a while ago, and it's pretty good. Have to agree the dpad is shit, the buttons are pretty good though. I got it cus 1.) wanted to save money 2.) didn't care about the 3D 3.) wanted a system I could just throw in my bag and take with me. The 2ds meets those needs perfectly.
On my Zelda A Link between worlds 3ds xl, the buttons feel pretty cheap. That's literally the only problem I have with it. If you want a 3ds xl, the zelda edition is the way to go. If you get it in Wal Mart, you get a $40 giftcard.
It released much cheaper in the U.S. The 3ds cost $200.00-$230.00(USD) at the time that the 2ds came out, and the 2ds released here at an average price of $99.99(USD). The price issue in your country is most likely the result of someone, somewhere, who won't bother with actual currency conversion.
I m probably gonna go for n3dsxl because soon all games will be made for it because Nintendo will want people to start buying the new ones now... and soon all games will be for NX
I think the new 3ds is better. Even if you don't use the 3d Nintendo fixed the circle pad because on my old 2ds I played on it and it gradually became wobbly. And also it comes in two sizes just in case the small one isnt for you.
+CYAN TIGERS (мιĸey) Circle pad is WAY better on the New 3ds. Sticking with the 2ds for now cus there's no real reason for me to upgrade, but damn the N3dsxl is a nice system
I think the point of the 2DS wasn't to be safer for the young'uns but to be a dirt cheap way to play almost all DS, DSi, and 3DS games. It does a pretty good job at that, bundles with either Mario Kart 7 & Super Mario Bros. 2 cost only $80 in the US, and both those games cost around $20 brand new here, so it technically only costs $60. Not a bad deal, if I does do I does say so myself-les.
"it's black, it's blue, and frankly it's uh... bit poo." - Ashens 2013 i know im outdated but fuck it i do what i want EDIT: i changed it ok stop bugging me about it
Even now, the 2DS is more expensive than the 3DS (if you shop around). So it's cheaper to get the 3DS and turn the 3D off. Making the 2DS utterly pointless. Anyone remember when Nintendo used to be good at what they did?
pumpkin1escobar Just did a Google search for 3DS. Clicked on "shopping" changed the list to "Price lowest - highest" and found 3 places selling the 3Ds cheaper than the 2DS. Also, "hating" on what? I never made any comment of the machine at all other then how you can get one cheaper over the other if you shop around.
Steve Perrin first of all, good job with the months later reply. secondly yeah right, link or doesn't exist PLUS use your head its all relative to where you live.
Man, have you seen some of the games for 3DS? If you're ONLY doing pokemon gen 6 then you're wasting it. I mean, you even can have games from the 80's with a built-in emulator, plus a shit ton of downloadable indie games and all sorts of apps. It was unexpectedly one of the best purchases I made. I thought it was gon be shit.
Alia Menetrey I had the same experience with the PS Vita. I thought 'psh, no games, no real reason to get it' then for whatever reason I did and it's now my absolute favourite console. I havent enjoyed the 3DS too much, very overpriced games which dont seem to drop in price very much and the only decent games still go for original retail on eBay! Besides, with my Vita I get 2 free games a month on PS plus and there have been a lot of sales in which I've attained a plethora of brilliant games and classics.
Alia Menetrey Actually, I don't even have Pokemon X or Y. I actually use my 3DS for playing DS games most of the time (even though I have a perfectly working phat DS...)
At this point I've moved onto the small New 3DS. I've been through every 3DS platform minus the 2DS. I would have gone straight from a 3DS XL to a New 3DS but since they didn't release the New 3DS in America until September I ended up getting a New 3DS XL for awhile.
No, I bought one because I've always hated the DS/3DS clamshell design. I love my 2DS it works great and I don't have to worry about it snapping it in half or wearing out the clamshell hinge
All British people are clones, they are all robots created by the Queen to take over the world. However, some British people some are imports, the prime minister imports people to England for landscaping purposes. You can tell the difference between an imported British person and a genuine British resident by their teeth, real British people have wooden teeth. I know this because I am half Canadian.
not at all. His voice is far more deeper and lower than the narrator. He has the same 'pitch' in essence but he sounds clearly younger and more robust.
Yufery5 British people's accent is more than just how they say words, but how they say things in general, such as sentences. They'll put different emphasis, pitch, and tone on different words to give it different meanings and because of this subtle cultural speech pattern people from the same country will sound a lot more similar than a foriegner who just speaks the language. For example, Germans have very harsh words and most of the words you'd mispronounce simply because you don't add the right emphasis on the right letters. It's why we sound like very angry people when we're not. In other words, The narrator and Ashens sound completely different from each other with only minor similarities, but because their subtle accent has them talk in the same manner, they sound far more similar.
I got one of these because there were 3DS games I wanted to play, I didn't have a 3DS, and the New 3DS had been announced, so I was using this to hold me over until that came out in America. I rather enjoyed it.
Google: You destroyed TH-cam's comments! Bob: But i hate Google Plu- Google: Thats it, bring out the guns *Bob got shot by the Google Plus Police and TH-cam lived happily....ever......after*
I was thinking of getting a 2DS instead since it was half the price of the 3DS, but now I think Ill keep saving, it looks really plastic, I thought the design was quite sleek and more professional looking but... I was wrong
My Friend Has A 2DS And It Is Way Less Thicker And Bulkier Than I Thought and all the buttons Seem To Be The Same Great Nintendo Quality as the 3DS buttons plus in Australia it's $100!! cheaper and comes with Pokemon X or Y
Hmm, I thought there were some games that had isometric puzzles that needed it, but I guess not. If that's the case, why did they bother with teh 3D in the first place?
lunavixen015 Actually, the 3D will still 'be there' in a sense- i mean, when you play playstation 3 games or xbox games, the environments ARE 3D...they just don't pop out of the screen, 2D is flat (sidescroller), 3D has an extra dimensional space to it (think assassin's creed). The aspect you won't be getting will be the 'pops out at you' effect. Really, it's not quite right to call it 3D as well, imo; it would have been less confusing if they could have called it something different (popout 3D, outer screen 3D, extra-dimensional 3D what have you).
I know how 2D and 3D work i'm not stupid, but I was under the impression that some games required the slider 3D on for some isometric puzzles, but apparently not.

How do children mess up the hinges that bad? I was very young when I had mine and my ds lite hinge still works.
When I was a kid my first ds went to bust when the hinges broke
I just received my Nintendo 0DS. The box was empty.
Well... the box with be non-existent then.
hahaha, made my day.
I got a 10DS, I'm stuck between realities
Fuck.
Back in my day our games took the form of pieces of cardboard and chalk on the sidewalk.

Really good for jamming under the door to hold it open!
cheater00 that is so true 😂
From 2020, it really has been 30 years since it was released.
"Personally, I like this thing you don't like."
There, now you don't need to read any more of the comments.
The 1DS joke had me laughing. Christ I'm a loser
"Medium-sized girly hands." Great.
all men have large hands and women have very nice hands that can play video games without accidentally pressing all of the buttons like some people with sasquatch hands do
Black and blue? It looks gold and white to me.
Best comment but it's hiding in all of the other ones
KillinSpoon I hate that this joke is still going but you deserve all the props. +1 Good day.
Holy shit it just turned gold and white for me!
Ashens doesn't have horrible lighting.
KillinSpoon Oh god, not again...
I love the 2DS. It's more comfortable to hold and it has the nostalgic feel.
I would get the 2DS for the affordability if it had the clamshell design. Without the clamshell it doesn't fit in my pocket and the screens get scratched very quickly.
This nigga. If it HAD the clamshell design then it wouldn't have such "affordability"!!!
It actually fits in my back pocket. You're just small.
dont you remember when they didint have clamshell? oh wait. nobody remembers. lets just say *they still didint get scratched much*
TheMistakenGoomba
I owned a gameboy advance. And the screen got scratched. A lot.
Andrew Burnham then you didint care for it
I still want a Wii U.
me 2
i have one :D
What a little kid
Aaron Jackson why, bc he wants a wii u? After e3 it looks amazing and id much rather hav it than the shitbox one or ps4
TheExplodingcheez Yeah, the Wii doesn't even need a made up name to mock it.
why couldn't they have gone with the bottom half of the 3DS XL in a new case and added a gameboy slot and called it the DS Advance
That actually sounds like a real good idea
Because it wouldn't be a DS. It would only have one screen.
+Derek Curtis ds has also been said to mean developers system, I'm surprised at how many people assume the official meaning is dual screen
+The Fourth Captain well it means both maybe
Kaeden Ngai-Natsuhara that's my point
In UK the 2ds is 100 pounds while the 3ds is 130-150
While in US 2ds sells for 80 dollars while 3ds is 200 dollars
Maybe the UK is selling it for a much higher price
Kywen Mook are you kidding me? Every country's money is worth a different amount
Kywen Mook it is now £80 in the uk
Kywen Mook No, because the UK pounds (currency) is the most expensive pound/dollar/euros out of the whole world.
Kywen Mook the new one is like 180
its 80 pounds right now lol
"Nintendo are getting a bit confusing with the names" *Nintendo releases New 3ds*
I don't wanna know if it's gonna be a 2DS XL in the future, just sticking with my little 3DS, thank you very much.
im getting one cause its bird cheap
A 2DSXL?
If it has the same layout , it would be very big. oO
***** Oh man, can't wait for that one then!
The 2DS is a variation of the 3DS. They would never make a XL version of another version.

LUOSHMY that's not true. Not all British people sound the same.
LUOSHMY I'd say that Wheatley sounds more Scottish than anything, however he is from England (Bristol)
Lewis Fogden I didn't think he sounded Scottish I just think his accent was very strong

Yeah that's what I sort of meant

1DS is the name of One Direction's upcoming videogame for the 3DS.

I love how he went to put the stylus where it usually should be!
The Nintendo 2DS, the world's most expensive door stopper
macbooks are way more expensive
whats gotten into you, Yu?
that's what my brother said lol. Btw i like your profile picture persona 4 right?
Door stopper? i thought that was a paperweight? Oh, say hi to Rise Kujikawa for me will ya?
KENPACHI RAMASAMA WHY DIDN'T YOU DO YOUR MATH HOMEWORK?!
I bought a 2DS. Super pleased with it. Huge library of good games, nice buttons (Aside from the d-pad), nice to hold, and fairly cheap. I kind of miss the clamshell, but not so much.
Cracked Rearview That's because the library is just the 3DS library
Cracked Rearview yea, the clamshell kept dust from piling up on the screen. but the 2ds doesnt have that, forcing you to buy the case if you want to keep the screen consistently clean.
+Lewis Fogden no shit
+Cracked Rearview I prefer the 2ds over all the other 3ds'es I just love it :P

eh, DS Lite for life. 2006 and still going strong lel
+ChloeCam Hahaha, same here! :')
mine was stepped on, bought another, burnt that ones battery, bought another, still have it (doesnt work), bought a 3ds almost never used it rip the good Nintendo
+wduwfm yes, lasy americans
+Andrew Mathisen lazy
Mine's still up and running too since 2007. if I could stick my 3DS games in there I'd still be using it now.
Hey, at least this one came with the cord needed to charge the damn thing!
I appreciated the 3DS because the stylus was on the left side and I'm left handed...also I love the 3D effect..
i only liked this cus' i'm left handed XD
All of the promo pictures made the 2DS look much smaller than it actually ended up being, and a miniature one would have been a much better idea.
no bigger
Gaming 4 Life (Tylerman's awesome game channel)
If you think about it abit, the 3DS is barely the same size like the DS Lite.
So making it ''smaller'' is barely possible. The 3DS is already small,so why making it smaller and smaller for no reason?
And a stylus to poke your enemies!
It's funny. People aren't buying the Wii U until there are more games, but Nintendo isn't releasing lots of new games because the Wii U sales are low. :P
*****
Yeah, I know what you mean, but the Wii U itself isn't selling well, and I have seen the Wii U sell, but just not as much as other consoles, even though it is about half the price.
*****
I know. They are coming out with new games, so I hope Wii U sales will rise.
3D on the 3DS didn't do shit to the framerate, pretty much all games ran at 50+ fps and on the 3DS XL the battery life is pretty good. 2DS is just a 3DS without the parallax layer... Seriously, it's the same fucking thing.
ChaosMew161 pokemon X lagged for me even with the 3D off. It wasn't constant, but it did happen occasionally.
AlanIsAkira Well, you have to remember that the 3DS is not so new and wasn't designed when there was better technology, etc.
This man's video's are addicting.
I almost always have the 3D all the way up. I noticed that every time I let someone else play my 3DS, the first thing they do is side it all the way back down.
Maybe I'm just a weirdo, but I'm very used to the 3-D.
A penny can buy you 1 gummy bear
And now behold, 30 years since the GameBoy has been released...
Yay! I have the same 3DS XL as Ashens. But regarding the 2DS, it is good when on a budget. It does feel cheap though, but you can still play games with it.
The 2DS didn't have the clam shell design was because little kids frequently broke the flip parts on the normal 3DS.
huh good point, my cousin broke his ds lite flipping mechanism and it broke
MrJason005 When I was selling it at xmas that was one of the major selling points, and the age vs 3D thing.
wow. I got my gameboy when i was 3 or 4. I've been playing ds since i was 4 or 5 and i've never broke a system. Young kids these days
I Saw A 5 Year Old Smashing His Like Brand New 3DS on The Street

I like this system. I like the analog feel of the buttons a whole lot. I also like the way it feels in your hand. I picked it up a year ago as a sort of self birthday present and I completely fell in love with it. $120 brand new and it came with Mario Kart 7. That for me was a bargain, and considering I only had $120 at the time, made it absolutely perfect.
Waitin' for a Nintendo 2DS XL...
there already working on that! One of my family members works at Nintendo. JK lol nope
Obviously not going to happen
That would be hilarious.
A Wii U gamepad with TWO SCREENS!!!!!
mkfanforever58 *1 screen separated into two by a line
I got one of these and I actually like it a lot.For starter I like to lay down in bed when I play my handhelds and since all of the 3DS's have that annoying loose hinge that was a problem..not for the 2DS and I like the form factor, guess I am one of the few who enjoys this, sure it's bigger than a regular 3DS but for the use I have with it,it's perfect for me,I keep my 3DS in the bag anyway when I travel so portability isn't really a deal breaker.Too bad people are bashing this thing,I think it's great.
+YourAverageCommenter *cough cough New Nitendo 3DS XL cough cough
GameAddict51 Maybe you got lucky with yours, like I did with my DSi but on the 3DS the hinge is loose and annoying even on the new 3DS.
I think I'll just stick with my bog standard 3DS.
..."and a stylus to stab in the eyes of your enemies" Hahahahaha You really made me lost it there, is almost two in the morning, and my laugh resounded on the house...
im actually thinking of getting a 2ds since its so much cheaper than a 3ds and i can really give a crap less about the 3d effects. besides, many ppl dont like the new 2ds but i think it looks cool.
Have you used the 2DS? It doesn't inconvenience me at all.
it's LESS of a reach for me actually. My hand goes vertically along the entire 2ds, like if it was an xbox controller. So the base of my thumbs lie at the same height as the bottom of the touchpad. My hand is a lot less cramped. I do have large hands though.
I kind of wished Nintendo used the Wii's code-name (Nintendo Revolution) because to me it just sounds cooler...
here in New Zealand, it is incredibly hard to find a second hand 3DS or 3DS XL for a decent price, and brand new they are still sitting at ~$300. The 2DS launched at $165 here, and I was so excited that I preordered it. I highly recommend it, for those in countries where the 3DS is expensive, like mine.
Someone should make a supercut of all the times Ashens complains about the GBA screen. I think its literally every other video.
i got a 2ds and i actually like the it. it feels nice in my hands and i cant really play 3d cause i get a headache looking at 3d and its 20$ cheaper but i will say they could have made it foldable still but that aside its really nice
oh yea and the bumper feel stiffer and harder to push in to me
The non-foldability of it was another part of the demographic targeting, as well as a way to cheapen it. The first thing that often breaks on handhelds with hinges is, well, the hinge. It's the weakest part of the entire structure, and since this machine was more for kids who aren't going to take as good care of it as an older person would, it makes sense to remove it.
You must be the perfect set of hands Nintendo was going for
i guess
and then they made it foldable and £100 expensivererer
The 3DS had brightness options in the same place.
I think it was more about the wireless settings, and he just mentioned the brightness because it was there too...
uhh the brightness thing was on the 3ds too
"what can you spend a penny on these days?"
An OUYA. if your name Is Rocco Botte.
Decided to go on yet another ashens marathon, at half two in the morning
Dangit, Nintendo! Why did you put an SD card with twice the memory in the 2DS than the 3DS?
Also, the 3DS does have brightness settings, including something that I did not notice on the 2DS screen, a "power saver" option that makes the screens a tad darker.
I like this dude.
+Superlevel12
How exactly did the screen, which is wired in, secured behind plastic, and likely glued or soldered in place, fall off? Sounds like bullshit.
I have used all 3 and actually the 2ds was my favorite for comfort
the xl is best though
Black and blue? Looks white and gold to me..

+Levobertus XD now it's long forgotten
+HTJuanLife Gaming Pretty much.
+HTJuanLife Gaming Thank fucking God..
+Levobertus Mhm.ALL they cared about.
The description is Priceless
So... the Nintendo 2DS was pretty much doomed right from the start then. Especially since, as Ashens pointed out, you can get a second-hand 3DS for about the same, maybe even cheaper.
Well done, Nintendo. Well done.
*02/11/2016 Edit:* I formally take back this comment and have said the following down below:
_Boy, was I wrong about this game system! I have since purchased and received my refurbished Nintendo 2DS... and I've gotta say, my only complaint is that the shoulder buttons are a little sensitive from the side... and don't "click" like you'd expect if pressed normally, but function perfectly otherwise. That's about it._
_The system feels great in my hands and the battery life is _*_huge_*_ compared to the 3DS! Plus, the display is nice and bright and despite expectations, it does fit in your jean pocket without feeling too weird._
_So, yeah!
+Joseph Collins 2DS is probably more sturdy than the 3ds.
Wow, I really like your voice!
me too!!
0:04 Hah, I laugh at you, baby Ashen!
The 2DS is better than the iPhone 7.
It has a headphone jack
Uncle Gravemind and the dpad and analog stick are better than the touch ones.
You crazy? The 2ds rules! I would love a new 2dsXL
I love my Pokemon machine, I got the "new 3DS XL" for £180 brand new off the Nintendo store and it was worth every penny.
GameStop had the 2ds used on sale for $50 and I couldn't resist :)
+kyle te Amazing deal, man! For $50 that's more than worth it
I just bought a brand new 2ds bundle with mario kart 7 for a total of 64.55 not bad
+Thuxury that's even a better deal than what I got wow lol
bought the nintendo 2ds blue that comes whit pokemon classic blue game for $80 yesterday
The price issue in your country is most likely the result of someone, somewhere, who won't bother with actual currency conversion.
gots mine for $79 with mario kart 7. it's more comfortable to play. the 3ds xl fingers cramp up.
Can I have both of your friend codes?
Give me a moment,I'm downloading something.
I know the 3ds be uncomfortable and the 3ds hurt ur eyes
what should I. get n3dsxl or 2ds
I m probably gonna go for n3dsxl because soon all games will be made for it because Nintendo will want people to start buying the new ones now... and soon all games will be for NX
I would have honestly bought one of these over my 3DSXL IF the screen folded. I never use the 3D feature. It's a shame that it doesn't fold over.
+LovelyProductions I know I got it because my 2ds was broken (I got the 2ds used so that's why)
"it's black, it's blue, and frankly it's uh... bit poo." - Ashens 2013
i know im outdated but fuck it i do what i want
EDIT: i changed it ok stop bugging me about it
Hey, at least you're not as outdated as a POP station.
FlurfMeister02 true
And you got the quote wrong. If you're going to quote someone, maybe try and get the quote right?
+Super Hans No, that wasn't quite the case...
*and frankly it's a bit poo
Even now, the 2DS is more expensive than the 3DS (if you shop around).
So it's cheaper to get the 3DS and turn the 3D off.
Making the 2DS utterly pointless.
Anyone remember when Nintendo used to be good at what they did?
some sources bud? cause i got mine and saved quite a bit of money.
that's a lie.
Zacho Allen
lol no where it is cheaper to get the 3ds. OP is just hating on it just because.
pumpkin1escobar Just did a Google search for 3DS. Clicked on "shopping" changed the list to "Price lowest - highest" and found 3 places selling the 3Ds cheaper than the 2DS.
Also, "hating" on what?
I never made any comment of the machine at all other then how you can get one cheaper over the other if you shop around.
Steve Perrin
first of all, good job with the months later reply.
secondly yeah right, link or doesn't exist PLUS use your head its all relative to where you live.
It was super low quality but way more confortable to hold.
Plus since there was no hindge, the top screen never got loose
You're right.... now that Pokemon X and Y are out everyone is buying 3DSes just for Pokemon....
Chip Biscuit Bigger isn't always better, yo. I liked the more compact size and tighter PPI.
Chip Biscuit FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUC-oh you were being reasonable and civil. Carry on.
+mipmipmipmipmip um how
Well, almost 30 years now.
Am I the only one here that supports the 2DS? I have one, and I love it.
No, I bought one because I've always hated the DS/3DS clamshell design. I love my 2DS it works great and I don't have to worry about it snapping it in half or wearing out the clamshell hinge
Your not alone! I bought it for the fact that it's cheaper than the 3ds but I ended up finding it more comfortable than the 3/ds!
They are being sold refurbished for $60 on Nintendo's Ebay store right now!
tru
I bought it £30 brand new
Got mine for $2 (in an arcade :P)

HEY GUYS, NOT EVERY BRITISH VIDEO GAME CRITIC IS THE SAME PERSON
All British people are clones, they are all robots created by the Queen to take over the world. However, some British people some are imports, the prime minister imports people to England for landscaping purposes. You can tell the difference between an imported British person and a genuine British resident by their teeth, real British people have wooden teeth. I know this because I am half Canadian.
brickman409 You are just racist and stereotyping the English...
It was a joke, dude..
I've just realized this now... you sound A LOT like the Narrator from 'The Stanley Parable'. Seriously, your voice is almost identical to his.
not at all. His voice is far more deeper and lower than the narrator. He has the same 'pitch' in essence but he sounds clearly younger and more robust.
Aickavon the Techpriest That's true, but I still find he sounds a lot like the Narrator. Personal opinion I suppose.
Yufery5 just means you don't talk to a lot of british people XD
Aickavon the Techpriest Nah. It wasn't their accent, just a part of this video made him sound like the Narrator.
First video I've seen on your channel and I love it you're hilarious man you've got my sub:)
Google can't stop messing things up,
haha I know its your opinion ashens but I kinda love what nintendo are thinking, I like the design as well :)
I got one of these because there were 3DS games I wanted to play, I didn't have a 3DS, and the New 3DS had been announced, so I was using this to hold me over until that came out in America. I rather enjoyed it.
maybe Nintendo should just only make handhelds as they are the king of handhelds
u literally just pionted out the bad things
thats all he does. Its not a flaw, just his thing.
oh
Fuckin noob

Google: Thats it, bring out the guns
*Bob got shot by the Google Plus Police and TH-cam lived happily....ever......after*
I was thinking of getting a 2DS instead since it was half the price of the 3DS, but now I think Ill keep saving, it looks really plastic, I thought the design was quite sleek and more professional looking but... I was wrong
Just get a pre-owned 3DS
I own a 2ds and there's nothing bad about it (other than the 3d feature removed)
or save $200 and get a psvita with "ps3 like graphics"!!! joking your choice
Yea well I might buy a vita also (I like wasting my parents)
My Friend Has A 2DS And It Is Way Less Thicker And Bulkier Than I Thought and all the buttons Seem To Be The Same Great Nintendo Quality as the 3DS buttons plus in Australia it's $100!! cheaper and comes with Pokemon X or Y
Love this white and gold version!
Analog nub thing!? It's called the circle pad, Ashens.
Heh. In the Netherlands the 3DS is 170 and tge 2DS is 100.
It's 26 years now ,2016
Hang on, don't some of the games need the 3D aspect for puzzles and the like?
In a word no. Nintendo insisted to all game developers that all 3D games be playable with the 3D turned off.
Hmm, I thought there were some games that had isometric puzzles that needed it, but I guess not.
If that's the case, why did they bother with teh 3D in the first place?
Completed Quill
I had that bit figured out ages ago, but why not stand behind the premise of the console? seems like a sounder idea to me.
lunavixen015 Actually, the 3D will still 'be there' in a sense- i mean, when you play playstation 3 games or xbox games, the environments ARE 3D...they just don't pop out of the screen, 2D is flat (sidescroller), 3D has an extra dimensional space to it (think assassin's creed).
