The guitarist is her husband and one of the most influential music producers of his era as well as one of the best guitarists and songwriters you will find. They are still touring and kicking ass. Pat Benatar is more known for her hard rock but this track was huge in the 80s. Won 4 Grammy's in a row for best female vocalist. Refuses to be put into the Rock HOF without her husband. Legend.

Like Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Pat was a pioneer, giving women a voice in a very male dominated rock arena.

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Uuughhhh, such ignorance of earlier women in rock is staggering in that comment.
You can't throw a stone in the 60s/70s period film genre without finding a Grace Slick Jefferson Airplane/Starsip song on the soundtrack.

You'll also love the live version of Joan Jett doing "I Hate Myself For Loving You." And you've already heard Sade and Kate Bush. They have a ton of great stuff that sounds much different from what you've heard. You have a lot of joy in your future. :-)

Nice reaction. Pat was the first female artist ever on MTV when it first came on the air. And the second video played was hers. Not this song though. Pat and her husband had a string of hits in the 80's. Her husband is the guitarist. they're still together and still performing. This was a pop hit from them but most of her songs fall into the rock genre. Please do more Pat Benatar. She deserves it. She met Dick Clark before she became famous. Later on, she would perform on his show American Band Stand.

I think women in rock don't get the respect they deserve but with that said the style has so many great men of rock and so few of real great women of rock it's easy to overlook them but a definite shame. They are powerful with their voices. To be able to become great in a field of men they really should get the props they deserve

A and B this was one of the first songs that helped me think deeper about music as an entity that drives passions of all sorts. I took it , not as love driven, but purpose driven. It was like a permission slip to grow away from childhood and look for ways to externalize curiosities I had and explore the talents I had nurtured so far in my life. It was a very freeing song for me. Musically, this song takes dissonance and puts it in your face! Minor keys and oddly paced drum beats and a children’s choir, along with Pat’s penetrating insistent vocals makes this a powerful piece of music.

Children's choir on the chorus of a song can be really powerful if done correctly, and this song is one of the best examples of that. Another example is 'Young' by Hollywood Undead, which is an angry rock/rap song, but in both of those songs the children sound innocent and pure.

I love this song. Everyone raves about her powerhouse vocals, but she's also capable of great delicacy & expressiveness. I think Painted Desert, Diamond Fields and Strawberry Wine are underrated & unfairly neglected songs. She's got far more than the usual top 2 or 3 over requested hits, definitely worth exploring.

While I loved ALL of Pat Benatar's music, This one always hit hard for me... As you mentioned... this is not the starry eyed "in your face" type of love song... this is a deep down in the very core of your soul feeling that even though there may be problems among the good times, their relationship is on solid ground and only together does it make the truly beautiful thing it is,

Everything about this is perfect. The songwriting, the lyrics, the instrumentation, the production, and of course her stunning voice.
She cowrote this with her husband Neil Girardo, who always plays guitar behind her.
It was about when she got pregnant with their first child and perhaps addressing his doubts about becoming a father. That was back in the '80s.
They're still together and still perform together to this day. Pat Benatar still sounds and looks incredible too.

Well, now. You two need to be introduced to Pat Benatar in her natural element. These songs, YOU BETTER RUN, HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT, LOOKING FOR A STRANGER, & most definitely her most notable song, LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD. You will find her voice powerful and one that helped define the 8o's.
Speaking of ladies of the 8o's, you need to bring g in the impressive Chrissie Hynde and her powerhouse comrades, also known as the Pretenders. Suggested listing,
    MIDDLE OF THE ROAD,
    BACK ON THE CHAIN GANG,
MY CITY WAS GONE, and their first hit, BRASS IN POCKET. There is nothing like the Pretenders. But then you haven't leaned into the Eurythmics yet, either.

Most people don't know that this is a cover. Pat changed a few words but the song is by a duo called "Lowen and Navarro" (Dave Lowen and Dan Navarro, I believe). I actually prefer their version of the song because of the harmonies. They often do one of the verses in Spanish. I have a friend with whom I have been doing acoustic duets with for 30 years and we cover the Lowen and Navarro version. Check it out, it's worth it.

This was not a typical Pat Benatar song, she, as other's have pointed out, is more famous for heavier songs. If I recall correctly (and it has been over 35 years, so I may not have this completely right) this album was recorded when Pat was pregnant with her first child, and she claimed that due to the emotions involved in that she wanted to do something very different.

this is what i'm talking about. new songs. majority of polls are songs you've already heard before so like when someone recommends something new you hear for the first time.

It’s criminal that she wasn’t inducted into the rock hall of fame last year. She had so many hits in the late 70s through the late 80s.

This song is a mature love. This isn't young love. These people have been together a long time. That's how it feels to me.
