Many Thank You's to Bob & Brad! I got a migraine today (hadn't gotten one for many months!) and I quickly searched for the "Two Most Famous Therapist on the internet!" And BAM!!! I watched all of the ones you've recorded on migraines & headaches. You men are truly a gift from God! Love your humor, love the details explained so well, love the smiles and your genuine care for people! May Our Good Lord Jesus Continue to Use You to Help HIS Children!! P.S. I know Mike is "replacing" Bob (there's no replacement for Bob), however if Bob is able, he should mentor Mike. Bob & Brad are a unique Team, their personalities, humor & deliverance is what this channel successful. Mike obviously has some huge shoes to fill, he would do himself (and the Subscribers) great if he enlisted Bob as a mentor.
Thanks for explaining the origin of the nerves involved in cervicogenic headaches. I have been to the emergency room twice in the past 2 years with the worst such headaches of my life. I will follow your advice--as always you are saviours.
GREAT video! I had upper cervical instability this year treated with PRP/prolotherapy injections (insurance doesn't cover it). You diagnose it with a DMX (digital motion x ray) study of the neck capsular ligaments (primarily that c1-c2 but mine got down to c5) and alar ligament. Yep, sleeping on your stomach is a HUGE contributor to developing this condition, and I did it for most of my life. Bad bad idea. Don't do forward head posture (looking down at your cellphone kills your neck ligaments), be a side or back sleeper, do chin tuck exercises and neck roll exercises regularly, and for the love of all that is Holy, don't crack your neck, especially in any way that extends those ligaments further than they want to go! Do neck massages rather than stretches if you can help it. Neck pillows are a life saver too.
I would like to see them discuss at-home cervical traction. I started doing that (using a pillow case and some cording tied to a door handle) for headaches and it works very well. It also feels really good.
@@Re3iRtH Once I did it regularly to get rid of the headaches in the first place, as long as I am careful about head positioning when I sleep (which is usually the trigger), I no longer need to do neck traction. But it is the best way to get a good gentle stretch concentrated on the neck. It's totally in my control, unlike chiropractic manipulations (I tried that and what a nightmare). It is super relaxing and I have to be careful not to fall asleep.
@@janetwelsh105 I have a physical therapy appt next week. I am okay with gentle manipulation, but will immediately tell them no jerks or sudden manuevers. I'm an M.D. (radiologist) and extremely skeptical of PTs and chiropractors. Can you link a video on exactly how to do this safely? I would really appreciate.
I do not sleep on my stomach, but I have this exact condition. I has been intermittent for year but I believe a recent long dental surgery (3 hrs.) aggravated it. I’m glad to find this video that describes this condition perfectly and I’ve started to do the exercises. Thanks so much.
I’m a tall lady (6’) and work in a kitchen where I have to look down at my work station for 8 hours a day. Is there a video on how to not look down/forward when there’s no other option to do so? My upper back/neck has really started to bother me.
You hit the nail on the head when you described my headaches. Most of them magically go away when those 2 joints release. I've been trying to work on my posture, but I'll try this too.
Thank you, I sleep on my back and on my sides. I get those headaches. Sometimes I feel pressure in that area down to the top of my back bone,, and my ribs as if the Preasure makes it a little hard to btrathe.
I get cervicogenic headaches and migraines. And one kind will trigger the other. I have a hard time figuring out which came first. A renowned expert in migraines said than in 75% of migraine sufferers with neck pain, the pain is caused by the migraine not cervicogenic headache. He said migraine neck pain can precede the headache by up to an hour. However, I am in the 25% who have both kinds of headaches. He said to tell which is which pay attention to other symptoms primarily sensitivity to light and sound as indicators of a migraine.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and already have a bone fusion on C6-C7. And recent MRI show arthritis damage on C5... never had the headaches or pain at the base of the skull on C1 or C2 until 2 months ago. Feels like it’s getting worse every day. I will try this exercises, thank you
@@jasonsanders6930 it was back in 2013 and it was at a VA hospital so no, they didn’t even bother to remove the bone Spurs they only did the fusion. A month after my surgery they did an MRI to see the fusion and the dr who checked it (diff doctor from the one who did the surgery) said: oh, they forgot to remove the bone Spurs... :-(
@@MingoMendoza-nk9zv wow I’m so sorry. I hope you can decrease your pain with these simple exercises. I work in PT just as a tech at the moment for the last few years and started school at age 29 to become a PT very recently. The stories I’ve heard about the VA never ends. I hope that you stay positive and can get some relief! 🙏
You guys are great! One question , i clearly have headaches due to these upper joints. The towel method is miraculous. How often shoud i do this exercise?
I had to start sleeping on my stomach some because the pain was so bad by the c1 c2 i couldn't use a pillow anymore. Still don't and migraines are less now but also taking some preventatives. I did do these exercises, and massage; it took a multi-faceted approach (i.e. everything but the kitchen sink).
Another contributor: having a really bad neck curve. Your neck with a normal lordotic curve is NINE times stronger structurally than a straight neck, and most people with forward head posture and bad postural habits have pretty straight necks that might develop into kyphosis later in life which is even more serious. If your neck is straight, it makes all the other bad postural habits that much worse because your joints will easily hyperrotate/hyperextend since they aren't strong enough to resist that unnatural motion at all, then come the dreadful headaches, dizziness, vertigo, ear fulness, etc. and you'll feel like you got 90% of the symptoms of Meniere's Disease if it gets bad enough.

Everybody, be careful with the crossed towel - it did not have time to hurt, I just suddenly had to throw up and pee, simultaneously! Luckily I was close to the toilet! Ironically, the vomiting loosened up my neck... But be careful, I was obviously doing it wrong.

Instead of a towel for "unsticking" the cervical spine, my PT had me use a pillowcase (folded lengthwise) -- really fixed my sore neck.
