Until they make it viable for a casual gamer base to form and maintain itself without the possibility of your time being wasted via open world ganking it's going to be niche. There's a reason why WvW/Cyrodil pvp are in their own mega zones and not across the entirety of there respective games. Even the perception of the chance of having your time wasted is enough to turn people away and with the limited time people have due to getting older, idk how it will maintain a large population. As for being a cash grab? Eh. I find ESO to be more of a cash grab with ZoS's methods of running things. xD

If I ever get this game it'll be on an official full release with opt-in PvP. Marketing it as a 2nd job to progress with the possibility of losing that progress due to forced PvP tells me I'm not their target audience which is fine. It just isn't, and probably won't be, a game for me.
@@Cerealpizza Kronosxviii1 is right, pvp doesn't fund rpg, pve funds rpg. Played archeage and it was poop. Had to enlist guilds to fight for you while you were trying to clear bosses. Only thing decent about archeage was crafting. Everything related to crafting was utter and complete crap. Entire game was crap, and that's why it failed. Also, ever notice the population of rpg pvp players? They jump from one game to the next to the next, that's another reason those games fail. I don't support gambling being pushed on children, so no game gets cash from me that supports indoctrinating children into gambling.

It's a great foundation for an amazing classic MMO experience. Realistically, it's gonna be quite a few years before the devs finish all the content that they hyped up. But once they do, it's going to be such a deep and expansive world. I just hope it doesn't get stuck in development forever like star citizen
Finally, A video that doesn't completely s*** on the game because it's buggy and has its issues even though stating previously in a video that it is alpha. Many content creators are having issue with bugs + all the issues that are coming across while alpha testing it.... And seem to forget that this is an alpha. Your job is to report said bugs. Coming from you this hits differently. A lot of the fans of this game are glazing or have a lil bit of sunk cost fallacy orrr they just want it to be true. I've been following ashes for years, I wanted to buy the alpha key but I chose to wait it out. I'm going to play this at lunch and I'll buy it for like 4 friends just for the experience. But to know it kept you engaged is exciting.
Let me preface My thoughts on the current project: I'm enjoying my experience. WIth that said, it's not a game in it's current form. It's a broken piece of software with the "meta" game being finding the bugs. Participating in bug hunting and offering feedback on the systems is WHY you would fork over the $$ for this project. Do not expect to play a fleshed out game with all of its intended systems in place. I look forward to the success of this game, and I intend to be a part of the that process.

I feel you. Did you see the recent ESO dev stream doing BGs? The lead PVP dev didn't even know heavy attacks restore stam/mag. Just kept dying from no resources. As a freaking healer, no less. Anyone in chat who spoke up about this or the bad builds they used, the horrible rotations, et al, they got muted/ censored. There's videos here on YT covering it, from the past 24-48 hours.
While im glad this kind of game is making a comback for the audience who desires this, I know theres a lot of veteran MMO players like myself that share a thought that... yeah, I am older now. I dont have the kind of time to spend the time needed to play like I did back in 2008. I also just dont want to sit there and slog. I want to have fun, which means no pvp as well. Hopefully this game doesnt turn out to be a flop like the rest have been.

I bought the Alpha 2 key and played for maybe a half hour before deciding that I didn't want to grind an alpha version of a game. We even have TWO guilds set up in Nyce's discord. So grouping wasn't an issue. I just wasn't feeling it. I kind of wish now that I'd just bit the bullet and done it. The game looks really enjoyable. I am getting serious Ultima Online / Dark Age of Camelot vibes (obviously with updated graphics and combat) but very similar in overall feel. I do have the option to play whenever the servers are up for testing, though, so I'm not worried about missing out on anything yet. What server are you on? You don't want to try to solo your way through the leveling grind, for sure.
All mmos have rabbits, harry poters and such, and is super easy, leveling doesn't matter etc etc. This game is not doing this and people actually have to mention it otherwise players see it as weird. But this is how mmorpgs started like. Not to mention that back in the early days you had to talk to many NPCs to find the destination of quests instead of having arrows that show you where to go. If you are into fast-food this is not fast food.
I'm really glad you tried AoC. I hope we see you play this game on release. And we appreciate all the takes in the video. Overall, fair take is a must for the state of the game. We all just want an MMO with the company who always care and listens to the community.
The big thing people have to remember is that technically alpha 2 doesnt start till May but its not until late December after the wipe that the alpha gets its first wave of "real" content. Even with that said right now you can 100% pour your entire life into the game during the weekend tests or atm straight through till December 1st with constant content because of the node system and artisan skills or just getting a good idea how the games mechanics work with the basic but grindy leveling process. As a mostly solo mage i struggled until level 9 fighting basic enemies and then found using a lot of kiting, freeze cc and a shield skill i can solo 1 star minotaurs up to 2-3 levels above me and leveling/making money has felt easy since. Truthfully grouping is only required to fight most 2 and 3 star enemies at the different POIs who drop good or semi consistent gear, or to have less down time resting at least as a mage. Now at level 16 all im doing is artisan skills because i want to get a good idea how in-depth it is and let me tell you as soon as you hit apprentice you already need 2-3 separate apprentice level skills in order to craft apprentice level items and gear. Apprentice alchemy for example it takes mining or herbalism and alchemy to make apprentice potions but mining or herbalism, carpentry and alchemy to make salves that heal more but over time
I like the balance of risk versus reward to where you arent punished severely upon death, but just enough to not want to die (especially since im the Cleric) and enough to make you drop off all your stuff in the warehouse before adventuring off to a difficult place.. im still scared to mess with a caravan
sort of. There is always a threat of somebody turning on pvp and rampaging people. but if you don't fight back that get a nasty debuff called corruption. WHen they die they will lose gear. IF you don't fight back, you won't lose anything.

(Though all of the supporter packs they are pumping out and other things people can buy really don't feel good.) - The lead said this is a game for PvPers and if you don't want to PvP this isn't a game for you. Soooo yeah, from what I've seen and heard recently I probably won't be picking it up or keeping serious track of it.

If the developers do not focus on combat and making it not slow and clunky, they're already going to lose a HUGE part of the community. From what the ALPHA tests have shown, there isn't really anything that screams "PLAY ME!"
Combat is the best part of the game. They spent the last 3 years re working all combat after alpha one. Spent nearly 100 hours playing mage and keen to play more just because the combat and loot feels rewarding.

Decided to give the alpha a shot and have been pretty impressed so far, for an alpha. If you can look at it as testing an alpha rather than playing a game, I know a lot of people enjoying. But it isnt for everyone right now, and isn’t aiming to be. Game never going to be a mainstream mmo but think it will have a large niche community.
