No one uses it, except for the AI in every non-historical game. It's honestly far too easy to form it, suddenly you have the US joining Sweden in 39...
I think they should redo the commonwealth focus trees with the same idea! Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa particularly would benefit from this kind of resource expansion
Such a good idea. Every country that starts by default with significant colonial holdings should get a shared focus tree. America/Philippines. Japan/Manchukuo/Mengkukuo. UK/Commonwealth. France/Indochina/Francophone Africa. Netherlands/Dutch East Indies. Portugal/Angola/Mozambique. Etc.
At 22:50, you didn't realize that the foci you picked were reducing your autonomy instead of increasing it (they all have a -100 or -250, and any negative value decreases your autonomy). Good video as always, FBG!
@@lightningmcqueen1717 Kongo is 2 million km² and you can put UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany and poland inside it just for the conparison so you are right about your claim and its a geographical fact
30:15 and you would have had even more autonomy points if you had fired Albert de Vleeschauwer (the guy who gives you a 15% malus on freedom by war score) by completing the "An Independent Colonial Cabinet" focus from the "The Congo and the War in Europe" branch. For everyone who wants to try the new Congo focus: please do those three focuses (all 35 days) as soon as they are available, not just to fire that annoying guy but also to reduce the "An Uncontrollable Vast Nation" malus.
I often buy my train in such a situation from the international market. I rather loose my all industry for a couple of days then stability. But it is just a personal preference.
Dave ! Use long range tactical bomber CAS and 1 steel tanks for armor with horse to break trough, also jungel pioneer. You can get invader trait with spirit and use marine tank to qualify as marine and get lots of supply grace, so you can push trough till the next depo.
6:20 "Why can't I use command power or guns or something." Asking why he can't throw troops at the problem while he is forced to invest a metaphorical resource for political effort is a good question about a game mechanic on its own, but because he's saying it while playing as Belgian Congo, the line is also a PEAK in-character representation of a colonial governor who would solve every problem with guns if he could.😂
Alot of Ethiopia's problem are because of wars and I don't mean just them being invaded as the game starts. That was the second Italo-Ethiopian war and between the first and the second there was the Dervish War.
The thing is Ethiopia almost always fight UK for land and Congo seems to flourish the most under Belgium, so unless Belgians join Axis they would inevitably clash
36:36 I believe that with decision "Invest Funds Into Local Villages" you can stack another civs in your new cores. So, with communist path and African Union path, you can have a +1 civ in every african state
I suppose the difference between Congo and Ethiopia is the mineral richness. Ethiopia is mountainous and sandy, Congo is green and has options. That does help in development.
Congolese Belgium achievement without letting Germany do all the work seems intentionally tuned to be undoable. 320 day justify war goal as fascist Congo forces a ‘39 war start and Belgium immediately joins Allies regardless of your faction status.
I think the inevitable Pacific update in 2025 should rework internal politics and divide Political Power into PP and Cash to represent a divide between economic and persuasive efforts in your strategy. You've already started to see PP get represented more like cash in some focuses in the past few updates, so dividing things would give you alternate ways to influence your development so for example your diplomats won't stop shmoozing with other countries just because your government did some deficit spending.
I could also see political power been split into 3. Military power(police, military, MIO and that kind of stuff). economical power(cash) political power (persuasive). Military Power can only be used for military project you can also trade some military power to be used for civilan stuff like send in the army to clear a landslide or fix infrastructure or disasters (example Chinas flood the river action) but it will hurt war support.
I'm playing the Congo just now. Trying to gain a foothold in Europe, if you join the Allies, is awfully hard. Germany stomped USSR pretty quickly. Doing the quickest breakaway route (Civil War) to see if I can join Axis to take Belgium, this time. The tree is pretty cool.

I love the mutual focus tree. They should implement this into the Nordic defense pact that no one uses

@InZomnia365 yeah I've never used it. Habsburg mutual focus tree is pretty strong though.
I think it’s pretty obvious that this is a test to implement this with the other colonies in the game.

well not at least the mechanic exists so modders could do it. But that's not the same thing tho.

Honestly Congo should keep access to its economy focuses when independent, but needs to have a certain number of civs.
22:13 if you did this, you wouldn't be so limited. That's what you get when you only focus on one part of the focus tree
this map projection def does not give the congo justice. its over half the size of all of europe

Had Dave waited to do the independence focus, wonder if he really could've snuck the french territory focus first
Finally united Europe into one country

I think the logic for congo industrialoy advancing, is they have finances from Belgium. As oppose to Ethiopia who has that do everything locally

CONGO CONGOOO
As much as I like the flavour, I have to ask why? Why Belgian congo?
Because they deserve better than what they had for what, like 2 centuries now.
USSR has 3 research slots from the start. Congo can get third by a second focus.
