I've made these a few times..I forgot how to make these.. As a teen I had the awesome privilege to live in Japan for a few years and I'm 52 and I long to go back often.. a piece of my heart is still running around through the little neighborhood streets to get my melon gum and coffee from the vending machine. My favorite food was Curry with the chicken cutlets, pickled ginger on the side. The curry isn't the same here. I found these croquettes on here and they're so delicious. I make tonkatsu ,I also loved Sobe cold noodles ,yakisoba.. the crepe stands were so Delicious 😋 I could talk for hours about my happiness there ...🥲🫠🥰.. Such wonderful people ❤️ The Japanese people are so very beautiful 😍.. oh GYOZA OFCOURSE 😆
My grandmother was from Tokyo. Your recipe is pretty much exactly what I grew up eating at her and my grandfather's house. Thanks for the nostalgia and the reminder of how this is made. Great job.
In Scotland we make something similar called a pattie, except we batter and fry the mince and tattie mixture instead of using breadcrumbs. Smoked haddock is a good substitute for mince too
I made these and they were great. I used regular potatoes, what we have here, and used ground pork because that's all I had. Your recipes never fail and I'm encouraged to try more of your recipes. Thank you for sharing.
I’m Japanese and live in Hawaii. I remember watching a Japanese drama show on tv and they had croquette for dinner all the time. My family had never heard of it until we watched that show! Thank you for the video as I have never tried it before. 😀
I made this earlier tonight for dinner, HUGE HIT! They were amazing! The two differences I made, 1: Whenever salt was used to season the meat or potato's, I added equal parts Garlic powder. Second, I shaped the Korokke in 6 ounce hockey puck shapes instead of the long, oval potato shaped ones like in the video. My mother took pics to post on facebook and people are responding, 'Whats the recipe!? They Look Amazing'!! Thank you so much, I'm saving this recipe, and will recommend it to Everyone!
I enjoy watching your videos and the Japanese word of the day keep up the good work come up with more different recipes and different things to cook like God's Adorn and all of those wonderful dishes
Thanks for shared how to cook Korokke. I will try to cook it as all the ingredients can be found here in 🇹🇿 Tanzania 🇹🇿🇹🇿 And that for teaching us some Japanese word of the day. It is a good mix between language and cuisine to understand Japanese 🇯🇵 culture. Greetings from Kilimanjaro Tanzania 🇹🇿🇹🇿 今から、コロッケは僕のだいこぶつです。
My favorite from my childhood as well. Whenever I went to my neighborhood bakery, I asked mom to buy Koroke and Sausage bread.... This is far the easiest recipe I've seen. Thank you!
Thank you so very much. I love watching you cook. It is always so calm and easy. So different from when I try to cook. I am lucky that I still have all of my fingers and no one has gotten "too" sick from my cooking...so far. You inspire me. Now my family is afraid. I am trying to cook more.
chokoretoheart you could freeze them unfried or before coating them with flour and breadcrumb. But for maximum crispiness, freeze them before coating. If you don’t mind with the crispiness, then freeze them after coating.
After watching Samurai Gourmet on Netflix. I wanted to learn how to make some Japanese dishes. One episode he has Korokke. So your website and TH-cam tutorials are perfect thank you. 🙏🏻
They look amazing!!! One question, once you have prepared the mixture, can it be frozen and fried another day, or will the mixture spoil if you freeze it?
I figured it would be more complicated but it's basically just meat and potatoes mushed together and fried. So basically when I was a kid and I'd mix my potatoes with the rest of my food before eating it but plus it's fried. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks
I love Japanese croquettes! Thanks for sharing! I knew your blog from years ago and I am so excited to find out that you have a youtube channel! Subscribed!
I'm not sure if you are still looking at comments, but this was am amazing video. croquettes in japan are so good and now I know how to make them. Thank you!
What delicious croquettes! And I LOVED learning a new way to slice and dice onions, test the done-ness of boiled potatoes with a knife, and draining/straining each cooked croquette with a single handled tool. We are enjoying new recipes and cooking techniques!!!
In Indonesia we call this "Perkedel Kentang", with spices like nutmeg, white/black pepper, garlic, green onion/scalion, and you can add minced meat or carrot and mushroom 🤭
My mother is Japanese. I have the same La Creuset, the same pepper grinder, the same ladle, and the same tonkotsu sauce as you. Looks like I'm making Korokke tonight!
Looks delicious! I can't wait to try this. And thanks for the tip to take the bits out of each fry - I noticed that it does turn brown after a while and my food tastes a bit burnt... now I know why! Thank you!!
Just made croquettes using your recipe❤️ I had to do it without ground beef though because we didn’t have any at home. It still tasted very good, but next time I’ll make it with ground beef for more flavor😄
Nami-san, is it possible to use this recipe in an air-fryer? Korokke was first introduced to me by my Japanese friend, I have always loved it. Thanks for this wonderful recipe.
I live in a fairly rural city in the USA and good Japanese food is impossible to come by. There was one lovely Japanese couple that moved to our city and started a more traditional Japanese restaurant a few years ago and it was AMAZING. I was so happy to have easy access to what is essentially MY absolute favorite regional food. Unfortunately they closed after only a year or so for some reason and nothing even close has come back 😪. I am a competent cook having been a weightlifter for years but still having a discerning pallette, so I started teaching myself to cook many different styles at around age 19 while at university, I am 34 now (the cantina was woefully lacking healthy and yummy food on campus). Channels like yours are a godsend for me as It makes following the recipe much faster and I can get an idea if everything looks right while I cook. If I could eat Japanese food everyday I would be a happy man. Unfortunately some dishes I cannot make due to lack of fresh seafood (I live very far inland), or there are ingredients that are not sold at any of our stores. Sometimes I can get things off Amazon but not always. But I can still make most of the things I want thanks again to channel's such as yours providing recipes for sauces and such as well. I just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing your countries delicious food with the world in a very accessible format. One day I hope to visit Japan and experience the incredible culture and food first hand. I plan to make these fried delights when my wife is back from vacation, as she Loves mashed potatoes and anything panko breaded haha. I awas also wondering if these would work well in an air frier? Thanks again!
This is why I like living in LA. We have access to a plethora of Japanese and Asian markets. The Japanese restaurants are authentic and plentiful. I couldn't live in an area without access to good Asian food.
My Haha (Japanese Mother) is still alive and made us koroke when we visited her this last week during the July 4th week. She also made us tonkatsu, panko pork cutlets. To bad there wasn't any left to make katsudon!
Hi Nami! This, too, is one of my favorite Japanese foods! Hope I can make this soon. In the meantime I love following your IG stories of your new grandson 😂I hope you are recovering well.
Aww I'm so happy to hear you like this recipe too. And thanks for following my IG stories! My sling will come off next week! So excited to start physical therapy to get better! Thank you for asking and for your well wishes!
You know I never tried raw cabbage before, never tried coleslaw really, either, but since becoming a weeb (😒😕) and subsequently exploring Japanese quisine, I decided to try some raw shredded cabbage with the tonkatsu I made for my family and... Yeah, wow, I didn't expect it to be tasty by itself, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hey, these videos are so wonderful. Even though I’m personally trying to lose weight 🙃😊🙃 I’ve tried your Yoshinoya style gyudon recipe tonight… it was awesome. The thinly sliced meat video is a major key 🤘🏾. If you’d produce a Katsudon video, I’d be a authentic fan and pro bono brand ambassador 😄😄😂😄. It’s my favorite comfort food and truly takes me back to when I lived in Sagamihara all those years ago. Of course, if you could share the secret of making Sagamihara Mankin gyoza with us... 🤘🏾🤩🤘🏾
Omg yay!! I tried a different recipe of Korokke and found I didn't like the texture much, so I'm absolutely going to try these out!! I still love your Kitsune Udon recipe soooooo much and I never stop recommending it to friends!! ありがとうございます、なみさん!!
my Japanese mother passed away a few years ago, this is one of the recipes I never learned from her. thank you for putting me on the right path!
💫💗🌈
That’s super sweet, hope you’re doin okay and are making this in memory of your mother

I made this yesterday with veggie bacon and vegan cheese as the mix-ins (instead of the meat) and they were delicious - thanks for sharing the recipe!
I’m Japanese and live in Hawaii. I remember watching a Japanese drama show on tv and they had croquette for dinner all the time. My family had never heard of it until we watched that show! Thank you for the video as I have never tried it before. 😀

Never thought it would be so easy with simple everyday ingredients. Thank you chef Nami!

I lived in Japan for 2 years and croquettes were one of my favorite foods there
You make everything seem doable! Thank you for the confidence. I love korokke.
Thanks, it's just a bit time consuming. But I love this dish so I don't mind making it (while I drool and wait to eat first bite!).
Love your recipes. Have shared your website and recipes with my family and son who is now living in Japan.
My favorite from my childhood as well. Whenever I went to my neighborhood bakery, I asked mom to buy Koroke and Sausage bread.... This is far the easiest recipe I've seen. Thank you!
When I was visiting friends in Japan many years ago, I first tasted korokke, couldn't get enough of them. My friend Keiko made them for me, delicious.
Thank you so very much. I love watching you cook. It is always so calm and easy. So different from when I try to cook. I am lucky that I still have all of my fingers and no one has gotten "too" sick from my cooking...so far. You inspire me. Now my family is afraid. I am trying to cook more.
It's amazing how Japanese perfected European food with their twist
This looks so good.🥰 Reminds me of the cutlets my mom used to make in India.
Thank you Simon!
yep
ive always wanted to know how to make these. they look so tasty!
Thank you! It is a bit time consuming to make but I make a lot at once and freeze for later.
@@justonecookbook Do you fry them and freeze them? Or freeze them in they're "unfried" state? xD
chokoretoheart you could freeze them unfried or before coating them with flour and breadcrumb. But for maximum crispiness, freeze them before coating. If you don’t mind with the crispiness, then freeze them after coating.

Very simple and easy to make I love it I did modify it little to my liking by adding smoked paprika to the meat and garlic powder
I love Japanese croquettes! Thanks for sharing! I knew your blog from years ago and I am so excited to find out that you have a youtube channel! Subscribed!

No, we call it kroket kentang, bro.. perkedel is more like frikadel or frikadeler, which is another type of food originated from Netherland
No wait we have perkedel and we have croquettes, they're two different foods!
My mother is Japanese. I have the same La Creuset, the same pepper grinder, the same ladle, and the same tonkotsu sauce as you. Looks like I'm making Korokke tonight!
Thank you for watching!
I made it and it was amazing! @@justonecookbook 😋
